Baby Dilly Details...It's a Boy

In five months, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar will have four grandchildren, three grandsons and one granddaughter. The family announced today that Jill Dillard is expecting a boy.

"I was really excited," Derick Dillard told PEOPLE. "As a new dad, to have a firstborn son to be our first child and be the leader of his siblings, it is very special."

Before her ultrasound appointment last Saturday, Jill indulged in a sugary breakfast of waffles with syrup and whipped cream, fruit, chocolate milk, and lemonade. She wanted to make sure Baby Dilly would be active for his big debut.

"He stretched out his legs full length," said Jill. "He was trying to be like Dad."

Jill and Derick brought three Duggars--Joy-Anna, James, and Jennifer--with them to the appointment. Jill said there was "screaming in the room" when the gender was revealed.

Jill had predicted that Baby Dilly would be a girl, but both she and Derick agreed that, boy or girl, all they wanted was a healthy baby.

Both the Duggars and Dillards were thrilled to hear the news.

"We could have a giant," said Jill. "I called Derick's mom, and she was telling me that when Derick was born, he didn't fit into the newborn clothes, and his shoes were a size two."

According to Jill, her parents were "just elated."

"My mom and dad both thought it was going to be a boy and my grandma did, too," said the expectant mother. "They are all really excited,"

Jill and Derick don't plan on following a letter theme for their children's names, but they might choose a different theme, such as family names.

  1. Congratulations!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Derick while you wait for the arrival of your first born son! God is good all the time, all the time God is good!! <3

  2. So exciting! I totally just lost a bet on that one. Can't wait to hear what name they'll choose.

  3. I really thought she was having twins! Since they are having a boy, it would be so sweet if they named him after Derick's deceased dad.

  4. What great news! Jill looks amazingly radiant and beautiful. Her face has filled out some and she looks healthy and lovely. I hope she is enjoying pregnancy now that she feels better.

  5. Congratulations Jill and Derick. That's exciting news. I have 2 boys myself and they are total blessings. I'm so glad to hear you're not going to do the same letter names. It seems a little overused if you ask me. Anyway, happy, healthy baby to you both.

    Congratulations Derick and Jill!!!

  7. A rather unhealthy breakfast on the whole, wouldn't you think? Also, who would pair chocolate milk with lemonade? I don't think it was a very modest thing to bring your younger siblings and a younger BROTHER to your ob apt for a sonogram. They would have waited in the waiting room.. who is treating Jill during her pregnancy? Is she seeing a physician or a midwife?

    1. My doctors office allows 9 people in the room for a sonogram, doesn't matter who. Plus the siblings didn't have to look at her tummy. Plus its typically dark, so its likely you really wouldn't be seeing her skin anyways.

    2. Geez let the poor people enjoy their moment without your negative comments! It's a belly and they probably had her covered like Michelle and Anna were for their sonograms.

    3. Omg wow does it really matter what she ate for breakfast!!! And the duggars are very modest they always cover w a sheet when they have ultrasound I doubt her brother saw anything inappropriate and I thk it was sweet of her to think of taking her younger siblings.

    4. You must be a bucket of fun.
A lot of people go to stand alone facilities so they can include the family. It is refreshing to see a sister still so involved with her siblings.

    5. So judgemental!! Why can't you just be happy for them and not pass judgement?

  8. Goodness Anonymous....not your pregnancy; not your life. Give the young girl some slack!

  13. Seriously. You eat sugar before an ultrasound to make sure the baby is active. Any ultrasound tech or OB/GYN will tell you that! And who she brings into the room is her choice. Undoubtedly, she was well-covered and modest during the ultrasound just like in all other aspects of her life. Good grief.

  16. @Anonymous Why so negative? The ultrasound doesn't show any of Jill's body, I brought my family to mine! It is no ones business how she is handling her pregnancy. The "unhealthy" breakfast was probably because they recommend it for a 3D ultrasound to be sure baby is awake. I had a candy bar before mine.

  17. Congrats to Jill and Derick! I hope we can see more posts about Jessa's wedding now!! I am soooo excited for her and Ben and think she will be the most beautiful bride ever.

  18. Who is your judgements of Jill benefitting? It's not building her up in any way. Jill is used to having the family gathered together to view a sonogram since that's what Michelle did. Nothing wrong with that.

  19. Such exciting news! Blessings to the happy couple and new baby on the way!

  20. Seeing her stomach for an ultrasound is not offensive. If it was an ultrasound in, what, the first 2 months, that would be something different.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, how exciting! I had a feeling it was going to be a boy. Can't wait to hear what his name is going to be. As to the breakfast she had, my mother did the same thing with my sister when she went for her appointment. I don't think one unhealthy breakfast (not that it was that bad) would hurt her. Congrats to Jill and Derick!!

  22. In the last Episode Jim Bob asked them to call their future son "Jim Bob" i find this is very interfering und not very polite of Jim Bob... now they might feel as if they have to do that eventhou they wouldn´t want it..

  23. Congratulations Duggar and Dillard Family!!! I'm a huge fan of the show...

  24. Aw that's so sweet! I know they will make great parents. Now I have the urge to crochet them some baby booties but I wouldn't know where to send them anyway. Oh and the chocolate milk and lemonade thing, such a pregnancy thing. I remember craving fish sticks and cherry coke with my first pregnancy! So Jill is fine with eating what she had the morning of her ultrasound. As long as she is eating healthy at other times she will be fine.
I will be praying for them because March will be here before they know it.

  29. Anonymous @ 11:40 AM, Jim Bob was just joking! I suspect you might be from Europe, where the humor is not quite the same. I, too, was brought up in the European culture, and know that in some aspects things are seen differently. Not sure if this would be one example.... there might be Europeans reading this, and completely understanding what he meant, so I could be wrong. Just offering my two-cents' worth!

  37. There is always someone negative, thats their persona not most of us well wishing fans.I heard a good quote today, " bullies are not happy". Usually the bully has the most problems so we need to pray for them.

  38. I enjoy watching this family through their daily lives. I wish people wouldn't dissect every comment they make, turning it into something bad. This family has a strong faith base, and all the kids are growing up to be decent hard working adults. If you don't want to watch this program, PLEASE change the channel. They don't deserve your ugly comments.

  39. If y'all read the article, now you know why Jill is showing more.Put the rumors to rest.Derricks mom said he was an extremely large baby, so heredity probably plays a factor, ya think? All this speculating has been so tiresome and just plain ridiculous. Now just let this sweet couple enjoy the rest of her pregnancy.CONGRATULATIONS and Bless you both.

  40. I wish his mother had been present if it was going to be an outing open to others besides the mom and dad to be.

  41. I'm guessing Jill chose the three siblings she did because they were on her buddy team when she lived at home! That's really sweet/special!

  42. With all due respect I was thinking there was some REALLY BIG NEWS regarding this announcement. Gender reveal is not that big news, it's 50/50 chance. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled their firstborn will be a son, a leader of sorts, but that's not BIG news. That's wonderful news, but not BIG news! I pray that both baby and mommy will be healthy throughout this pregnancy and birth, but we gotta faked out again!

I'm not trying to sound negative or anything like that. This is a wonderful story, but we were kinda set up for something more than just baby gender news....any expecting couple has that news to give. We were expecting a "DUGGAR" sized announcement!

Next time there's a BIG announcement, I'm not getting excited about it.....just wait until it's shown, rather than waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.

  43. This has been a running joke for years. Jim Bob has suggested several times to various couple that they should name their baby after him, but he is never serious.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I really thought she was having a girl lol. My husband and i have a daughter and she looked like she was carrying the same way i did. We jokef though bc i was sure i was having a boy and the night before the reveal party i looked at him and said i think it will be a girl and sure enough pink balloons came out of the box lol. My husband said he believed Jill and Derick were having a boy. I called him this morning to tell him hes now joking hes the baby predicting king lol. God bless you Derick and Jill you two will be wonderful parents. Children really are a blessing from heavenly father!

  46. Congratulations on your little prince, I am so happy for the both of you, may God bless you all and the awaited arrival of your baby boy ♥. I love the show so much and am a very big fan of all the family.

  47. Oh brother! The whole 'name your first son Jim Bob' is meant to be a joke. He was trying to be funny. What i would call a typical dad joke. (you know, the type of joke your dad tells that makes you roll your eyes and say 'dad, that was tacky')
And there is nothing wrong with having a treat every now and then. There was purpose in it.
And she would of been completely modest. I would not allow kids in the room for and internal ultrasound. And i would only allow kids aged 2 and under in for the birth. If you expect them to be completely modest all the time then thats legalism. I doubt they wear wholesomewear swimsuits in the shower and bath for modesty's sake. Relax! That was great to allow her buddy team in to get the news first.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Pretty sure those are her "buddies". It was sweet of her to involve them and make them feel special. I think Jill was pretty close with her buddies and I remember Jenny saying she didn't want her to go

  49. congrats!!!!
I'm so happy for you guys!!!!!!!!

  50. I am so happy for Jill and Derick and so glad it's a boy! I do agree, however, with Anonymous 23 that Jim Bob suggesting his name was very rude. He did the same thing to Josh and Anna when they announced they were expecting #3. "You could change your letter and name it Jim Bob if it's a boy." He and Michelle had 10 boys and never named one Jim Bob. They should be able to name their son whatever they want to without pressure. Anyhow, congrats Jill and Derick!

  51. I couldn't be happier for them. When I had sonograms more than 19 years ago, the doctor told me to eat a sugary treat before my appointment. So I ate Oreos and milk, wrong combo, he produced a 12 ounce Dr.Pepper and told me to "chug it". Jill has watched a pregnant woman's dietary habits her whole life. I am pretty confident she knows what she's doing.

    ReplyDelete
  52. While I'm happy for them that they are going to have a baby boy, I'm also disappointed that that was the BIG news! After all, the announcement was presented as if it were BIG news...something more than gender reveal, which is as any other couple expecting a baby.
It's a great thing, a new life, but I was thinking there was some other type of BIG to the news. It could have just been presented as a surprise announcement, and not "something BIG"....

Just think it could have been presented in another way. Rather than, "Hey, something BIG is going to be announced in 5 days......." It would have been better to just surprise us and not a set up. TLC has been dragging the wedding thing out too long, it's just disappointing that the big news was just the gender.

  62. Super exciting news! So happy for Jill and Derick! Jill looks beautiful as always and is for sure glowing. It is really sad how so many judge this wonderful couple and their families. Some people really should look deep and long at themselves in the mirror. Not everyone is gonna agree on certain things but maybe keep comments to self instead of constant bashing. If you do not like the families and have nothing nice to say then maybe you shouldn't be on a blog about the families. Blessings on the Duggar and Dillard families.

  63. Agree - not sure I see the need to bring kids along unless they're your own? Eating some sugar to have the fetus active for the ultrasound makes sense, but you could opt for sugar. Hey at least she didn't eat tater tots and snow ice cream.lol. Glad Anna and Josh are trying to eat healthier - those Duggars seem to stock their pantry with unhealthy stuff.

  64. She can bring who she wants, but her family is her husband. And maybe if they want an audience the grandparents. Is she taking on siblings to help her mom or give the kids an outlet away from the house?

  66. Anonymous 7 seriously? Have you ever actually watched the show? Each time they have done an ultrasound with Anna and Michelle there has always been a sheet covering their tummy's which I have no doubt would have been the same for Jill. Why can't you just be happy for them rather than dragging what is good news down?

  74. @Anonymous

To Anonymous at 12:42PM: There is no such thing as "the European culture". Europe is a patchwork of cultures: hundreds of peoples, languages, cuisines, value systems, etc. Humour too tends to be culturally bound.
You can in no way equate, for example, Dutch culture with Spanish culture. Even within these countries there are huge differences. Just thought I'd point that out :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Anonymous If you watch some of the older shows, Jim Bob says that to everyone who is pregnant. It's totally a joke. The closest even a child has come to being named Jim Bob is James. They know he's not serious.

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Anonymous
She said she had the sugary breakfast to make sure the baby moves. If the baby sleeps and is positioned wrong you cannot determine the sex. Be kind it's fine.

  77. I really thought the chaperons were done with.... When is Derick and Jill going to have some private and personal time? Buddies should have been left at home. She is a married woman now and occasions in their lives whether big or small should be shared first with spouse then family.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The difference is Amy's mom and Michelle's siblings didn't usually go and see mIchelle's ultrasounds. We are confused where the immediate family begins and ends. I'm glad Anna and Josh were more private.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Like when she goes in for her ultrasound the little kids are going to be right up there. Most likely they will be standing near the back of the room, and she'll be covered. Seriously, what is the debate over? You know there will not be anything shown, even with younger siblings around.

I've never seen anyone glow like Jill. I know that expecting mother's are supposed to have a glow, but she radiates. I'm happy for them. May God bless the pregnancy, delivery and the baby is healthy.

If they do name the baby after their grandfathers, use the name James and Derrick's father's name. After all, if it weren't for her dad, she would not have ever met Derrick.

I enjoyed the special about Jill. I had not always watched the Duggars and it was nice to see pictures and clips when Jill was a child.

I wonder if they'll do the same for Jessa?
