Shoe Shopping with the Duggars

Tomorrow on 19 Kids and Counting, the Duggar ladies head to Famous Footwear to buy shoes for Jill's wedding. However, there is one [very important] member of the bridal party who has decided to go against the grain and forgo footwear...the bride!

"I am choosing to go barefoot at the wedding," Jill tells viewers. "I'm not one to wear heels anyway. Plus, I like the height difference between me and Derick."

  1. I went barefoot. Too broke to buy something and my only dress shoes were black. I almost wore a black dress, but was given a tan dress a few days before. And mu blue skechers didn't match. I'm a cluts in anything other than sneakers.

  7. My niece went without shoes when she got married. Don't have to worry about trippng then.

  8. I'm not one for heels either, and ours was outdoors, so I wore ballet slippers. I was so comfortable!

  9. Couldn't Jill have worn flats and maintain that height difference. Her choice though. What ever floats her boat. I am having Christian Louboutins... I can only imagine what the Duggars would say about my $1,200 wedding shoes!

  10. that's wonderful a bride should not only be beautiful on their wedding day but also should be comfortable

  11. I'm surprised that they're shopping at famous footwear and not at the thrift shop.

    1. They don't actually shop at thrift stores as much as the show depicts. They don't need to, they're multimillionaires.

  12. ha this was a great video :) I didn't wear shoes at my wedding, either. I had SUCH a hard time finding white, simple, flats that I got tired of looking and got white lace liners and wore those. Kind of like lace socks.. and they had tie ribbons so I tied them around my ankles like ballet shoes. No one saw them anyways because my dress was long, and the only way it's documented is with a funny photo of my husband and I showing our feet on purpose. Joy is so funny. Those wedges DID look nice on her :) haha "cover the feet..." :P

  19. As for modesty and shoes, some men are very drawn to how a shoe type looks on women's feet. I've heard it more than once. I personally gave up heals because I felt it draws too much attention to me, my legs and agree with the Duggar's view on wanting to draw attention to countenance.

  20. No shoes?? Interesting but understandable

  21. Was Jill really barefoot at the wedding and during the ceremony and reception???

    ReplyDelete
  22. Haha..I think that's really cute and funny that Jill wore NO shoes on her wedding day!

  23. I like shoe shopping. But in my opinion, I think Jill and all the girls should of went to a cheap shoe store (like Payless Shoe Source store, which sells shoes at a decent price). Did Jill really not wear shoes at her wedding or did she give in and wear flats. But I'll just have to see in the next week or two.

  24. I WAS BAREFOOT AT MY WEDDING! Great choice

  25. If you get married on a beach, I can see no shoes, but in a church??? Barefoot is gross. Just get some flat sandals to be safe. You could step into something nasty!

  28. Hi. I have been watching your show for many years now. I am 27 years old
i find your family and your show very sweet and you can tell you all have hearts of gold. It is great to see a show where the family is being shown in a positive light , because most of the reality TV marketed to my generation and those younger than myself, thrives on showing families fighting and in turmoil at all times. You prove statistics wrong by having a show that has high ratings, you prove that a show can be a success without displaying broken families, out of control emotional fighting and outrageous antics. With your shows, while I am not suggesting you bend to conform to the example set by them, seems to never show anyone display any other emotion but happy. While that is awesome, it also can be discouraging. All families strive to be happy, content and thriving however your world seems perfect. While I certainly don't wish for your family to behave badly, everyone is always happy and smiling and positive and in reality it would impossible for you to be this way 100% of the time. Surely your girls must have had moments when they broke the rules or rebelled or didn't get along. Now, again, I'm not saying your show should routinely feature moments of family discord, however I feel that it would be nice to see the more real side of the Duggar family. I think that showing that you and your children do go through the same occasional problems and sibling/family disagreements, would make the way of life you guys lead seem more realistic and possible in families all across the world. I think that you guys set a wonderful example and I would assume that one of the reasons for doing this show is that you want to show America that positive, wholesome families exist and that maybe you will inspire other families to try to live a better life. You have inspired that in me, its just, unrealistic that no matter how good of a person I become, that I would be able to have a large family with perfect children who always listen and follow every rule I have set out before them. Humans make mistakes, and I think that if you show a small bit of that human side of your family, it would make a large impact because we would, as viewers, still see the Duggar family we know and love, but would also see that all the Duggar rules we have been shown and taught about over the years, can still work but that sometimes your children didn't follow every rule and learned from that mistake.

  29. Sometimes the best life lessons are understood only after you resist because you learn why your parents tried to prevent you from making the mistake in the first place. Sometimes those lessons stick the most. I don't want to see your teens dressing inappopriately and callling each other names, I just feel the show would have more of an impact if in addition to the wonderful life you show each episode, you also show how your family properly handled sibling squabble, or showing Michelle speak of the difficulties that come along with raising so many teens under one roof because it comes off like Michelle has never had a negative or angry feeling in her entire time as a Mother and it makes people, mothers feel that they could never be as good of a mother as Michelle, which could lead to them not wanting to even try because they feel they would fail, which would be doing a disservice to the entire reason you opened your home up to the nation. it would be amazing for Michelle to address the more real side of motherhood while also still being an amazing and positive role model for parents and future parents who would love to be as good as a mother as Michelle is but feel they could never measure up to the perfect version we see on our TV each week. i adore your show and your books, but would love to see the more real side of the family because it can sometimes come off as this "stepford wives" type of world instead of a wholesome real family who has successfully managed to raise amazing children despite living in todays modern world.

  30. No shoes? A man loves his lady in white heels for the wedding. Your feet will show when you lift the dress for steps. You two are a great couple and look perfect together. How about Lillianna. Or Diamond for a girl? or Daniel for a boy

    1. Not every man is the same! :) I'm sure Derick absolutely loved Jill, no matter what shoes - or lack thereof - she was wearing!!

  31. Barefoot in a church? Where I live that would be considered disrespectful. Maybe it is different in the south. Same goes for flip flops. I think a nice flat or ballet shoe would have been appropriate.

    1. I'm sure Jill never intended to be disrespectful. :)

  32. I did that at my wedding, I found my dress at the thrift store, and the grooms suit. My hubby obviously had to wear shoes! But my dress was long enough to cover my feet, I did wear some sandals because when at my pare,ts house where the reception was, some was out side. My brides maids all got there dresses from an online shop, and shoes from target. The cake was actually cupcakes and the honeymoon was a bed in breakfast only thirty minutes away. That was two years ago and now were welcoming our little daughter into the world Ina about two weeks. I relied on baby showers and thrift stores for her things. Her nursery won't be decorated anything fancy, just a soft shade of lavender with a crib and a dresser and a rocking chair

  33. I think it is great how you are letting everyone have a say in the shoes but even better you're going barefoot. Definitely seems to fit your down to earth simple style.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I wonder if Derick was shorter than her , would she still be attracted to him.Height seems to really matter to these girls.Jill has always stated that she wants a tall guy, glad her wish came true.:-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. When you're tall, you want a guy taller than yourself, believe me ;)

  36. The Duggars are shopping at my favorite shoe store. Jill not wearing shoes I don't agree with that. I think all women should wear a little heel just to get use to them.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @AnonymousThat's awesome! Found my dress at a thrift store too...there's just no need to break the bank for one day. Congrats on your daughter! My daughter is seven months now and so precious. And let me tell you, I rarely have to buy her anything because she has so much doting extended family!

    ReplyDelete
  38. @AnonymousLike Michelle said, it's the easiest place to find something for everyone all at once. Might take a month of Sundays to find the right pair for everyone at a thrift store! And they had such a short time to prepare for the wedding too, so it's very understandable.

  39. In the video, Jessa is insisting her sisters get a wedge. I saw a pic of all their shoes they wore, and it is funny because Jessa has the flattest sandal of all!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, since she met him over the internet and only saw him via Skype for the first part of the relationship, I'd say she'd love him no matter his height.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am happy that Michelle is buying her family new shoes, instead of thrift store used shoes (with the various kinds of fungus or mold that could be lurking in used footwear!)! I like that the girls will wear something other than flip flops. Jill choosing to be barefoot in a church is not safe or clean; you never know what your could step on or what is lurking on floors. It's not a beach wedding, Jill! Wear some sort of sandal or ballet flat (Barefoot and pregnant will happen soon enough!)!!! This family sure does not understand what hazards could occur to your feet without wearing proper shoes (hiking in flip flops in El Salvador, for example-no smart).

    ReplyDelete
  42. My aunt wore white flipflops at her wedding for those reasons!! And unless you already knew that she was wearing them you would have never guessed:-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hahahaha..."Shoe shopping is for girls." I may be the only woman I know who can't stand shoe shopping. I bought the shoes for my wedding in half an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In one of the wedding photos, it looked like Jill was wearing white flip flops, or sandals.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Seems like she is submitting to barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen. Nothing wrong in that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Haha this made me go look at their wedding pictures online. No bare feet in sight. I did not guess that at all! I think that's cool that she did that.

    Hi Anonymous 5,

YouTube and TLC have started actively removing the newest episodes from YouTube soon after they are posted, and TLC recently asked us not to post the links to those episodes. (We are not the ones who upload the episodes to YouTube; that is done by other viewers.) For readers in North America, the episodes can be purchased individually on iTunes and Amazon.

    Thanks for understanding. :)

  48. I completely agree with an earlier comment that this family comes across as perfect. Michelle constantly uses the term sweet about someone or something they've done. I wish everyone in my life was sweet too. In reality, this simply is not reality. They come across as though they don't have a care in the world. No money pressures, lots of travel, etc. Most people can't relate. I wonder if they all could be so pleasant and cheerful if they had to deal with the difficulties life throws at the majority of people.
