Pregnancy Update!

Jill Dillard is nearing the end of her first trimester of pregnancy. She says the morning sickness has become less severe and that she has been feeling well enough to cook again.

For our readers who have been pregnant, how long did your morning sickness last? Do you have any tips to share with Jill and other moms-to-be?

  1. I was deathly sick until about 18 weeks. I was even hospitalized for a while when I'm couldn't even take care of myself anymore, including making simple food or even showering. While I would love to have anoth kid, I know there's no way I can take care of myself and a child if it occurred again. So, we will stop at one.

  2. Yay!!! Jill has a baby bump!!!

I am not married but like Jana am waiting for God's providence. I dream of the day when I may (hopefully) have a baby growing inside of me and of course a baby bump!! :)

God bless you Jill and may He look after you and your bub

  4. My morning sickness lasted the whole nine months! It was awful, but even through that I loved every minute of my pregnancy. unfortunately I was diagnosed with a very rare blood disorder which negated any more thoughts of future children. Praying that Jill and baby are healthy, and she is able to have as many as she wants!

  5. I had morning sickness for five months. I drank lots of Ginger Ale, ginger tea, and i always had plenty of soda crackers on hand. Wearing the motion sickness bracelets helped along with meditation and deep breathing. My girlfriends nausea was so severe she could not leave her house, so she tried my remedies and it changed her life, she said:-) Im sure glad Jill is feeling better. She is glowing:-)

  6. Well this may be hard to believe but my morning sickness did not last very long because I have a very strong stomach and never threw up even once. I did though learn to avoid the smell of certain foods and even certain shows on TV can trigger it! For me,anyway! So,just try avoiding things that trigger it. BTW, Jill,I have a suggestion for a theme for you and Derick's children. "The Baby Dills." Let me know if you like that idea, please,if you can.

  7. My mornigsickess took until week 20. Eating an apple in the morning before I would go out of bed would sometimes help. Or drinking cola really slowly with my breakfeast. I really did not feel well but I am now a mom proud mom of a really sweet and kind daugther. She was born the 25 of august.
Enjoy youre pregnacy. Read some books about it. Try to really prepare youre self on brestfeeding.
Enjoy youre time together as husband and wife. While youre looking forward to the baby.
    God bless you!

  8. Glad she's feeling better. My experience was that the nausea was over by the 3rd month. Still had to be careful somewhat in month 4, but had cravings all the way through, a certain breakfast, lunch and dinner until delivery. Never cared for those meals since. Happened every time.
On another note: the Duggar girls' hair, including Michelle seems to be at an all time long length almost reaching their waists. Have they every thought of doing something truly selfless and charitable for other women with their hair? Why don't they donate to LOCKS OF LOVE? Can you imagine those yards and yards of hair; what good it would do for many women? After all, the Duggar ladies' hair will simply grow out again. Not every woman who they would be of service to can say that. I think THAT would be a truly Christian act of charity that they can do with no sacrifice to themselves...this should be brought to their attention. A truly good cause.

    1. From what I understand, the Duggar girls look at having long hair the same way they look at wearing long skirts. It's a personal conviction that comes from their religious beliefs..I don't know much about their brand of Christianity, but they seem to take the Bible very literally, wether it comes to distinguishing males and females by outer appearance, or waiting a set amount of time to resume conjugal relations after giving birth.
I, personally don't cut my hair for spiritual reason, and I am offended when people try to talk me into cutting my hair when they don't have the slightest clue what that would symbolize for me..so I can't even fathom suggesting it to someone else, whatever the cause-especially understanding that there's a reason and a belief system behind it (even if I don't share their belief).

  9. Jill looks like she's exaggerating her posture forward to enhance her abdomen. Not in good taste. I, also don't believe it's in good taste to publish these photos as they are private for the couple and whomever in the family they wish to privately share them. Not everyone is interested in her physical development, as it's only important to the parents. I don't understand how they can speak of such modesty, yet do things and speak about things that are not modest in the least.

    2. Please, take your hateful comments else where, I Speak for many when I say I'm interested, and encouraging her all the way, don't jump on her because she's exited, seems to me the only thing your exited about is being rude, I'll be praying for you and good day.

  10. Mine lasted into the second trimester, but it was much less severe! I think she is having a boy 😜 I also started showing immediately.

  11. For my son it was 20 weeks, then my daughter was 26 weeks. A nutritionist gave my the trick of snacking on a handful of regular chips. The saltyness really worked. ( just be careful not to eat too many!) it can be hard and very discouraging but it really is all worth it in the end.

  12. Jill has had so much experience in prenatal care by now she likely knows almost every tip there is. I wonder if she has any challenges implementing the knowledge. That was my problem, doing what I knew to be best. For example for my first pregnancy I was very careful in everyway. Then I got pregnant again right away. For the second pregnancy maybe I was thinking in the first pregnancy after this I can relax my standards and so when I got pregnant again I stopped caring so much and relaxed my standards. I don't really remember what I was thinking. Looking back I feel a bit guilty that I gave so much prenatal care to the first and let go on the second. An example of how careful I was is I drank only very weak tea on the first but I drank full strength coffee on the second. That was intuitive on the first, what I thought was most caring, now I have the information at my finger tips that says caffeine is not for a pregnancy, so I wonder faced with that information if my behaviour would have been any different on the second pregnancy when I dropped my intuitive prenatal care for doing what "I" wanted to do? Jill gives the impression that she is a very caring person and that she will do everything as right as she knows to do. I encourage her to do that because when the child is born then you think about what you did during it's prenatal development and if you did everything you could have done to benefit the child. So implement what you know and if you have trouble with that because of human nature I do not know how to get past those hurdles. I still have some bad habits I have not conquered.

  13. Congratulations to Jill and Derick! I had nausea for 8 months with each of my children, but mint tea really helped! Praying for a smooth rest of the pregnancy and healthy delivery!

  14. Ohhhh this is so exciting! You can see the little bump! I love that she is documenting her pregnancy with these pictures so far. Prayers for her, Derick, and little Dilly baby coming their way! Bless! :) -Helen

  16. Wonderful news!

My boys I only experienced about 9 weeks however my girls were a solid 12 weeks then returned on the last trimester. I had to carry an empty coffee can and paper in the car just in case I got stuck in traffic. People provided tons of advice saying full head of hair or being a female caused by body to respond that way....seven kids later I still have no idea..
Any discomfort is worth bringing a life into our family.

  17. Well, with 12 pregnancies I have been really blessed with not too severe morning sickness. It would generally last the 1st trimester. My thing would be to always have something in my stomach. And lots of protein. :) With my last one I found even a spoonful of peanut butter right before I went to bed would help with the next morning.

  18. Hello,

I am a mother of 7 children. With my first 5 children I never had morning sickness (only my husband did!), but with my 6th baby I had it ALL the time not just morning but all the time. I had it until all most the last month of my pregnancy. It was horrible, my husband had to cook almost all of our meals while I was in another room, closed doors and all, trying not to smell anything. But, someone told me of the ginger pills and it worked wonders! I would take one before each meal and it would calm my stomach so that I could keep the food down. It was just over the counter ginger pills only ginger! no extra added ingredients. My doctor also suggested sucking on ginger popsicles or ginger cookies! God Bless you!

  19. Wear your sea-bands that you wear for motion sickness! They help with morning sickness too because of the acupuncture pressure point that they sit on

  20. Awwww...such a sweet baby bump. I think each woman is different. I had mild morning sickness but crackers seemed to help. My advice would be to eat what her body craves and don't eat what she can't stomach. ;).

  21. I used Garden of Life raw prenatals with my third pregnancy and it helped with the morning sickness as well as keep me from being anemic. You can take them on an empty stomach, and within 10 minutes I could eat without getting sick or feeling sick.

    1. I am doing the garden of life organic prenatals, do you think raw would be easier to handle?

  22. My morning sickness was really bad for the first 12-13 weeks, and after that eased off. My stomach still turned very easily, but I wasn't throwing up every single morning.

I'm very glad that Jill is doing better!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yay! i'm so lad she's feeling better! its a bummer she was so sick! embrace this tiny gift from God Jill! she/he is a blessing beyond belief!!

  24. With my 1st pregnancy, I had all day sickness until about 16 weeks. With my 2nd, it lasted till about 12 weeks. Try small frequent meals throughout the day. Rest when you are able, and it is ok to ask for help if you need it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So so sweet! I love it! Pregnancy is so exciting and I'm thrilled for Jill :-) I remember just waiting to pop out a bit so people didn't just think I was eating too many donuts. Lol. I definitely had more morning sickness with my second. My advice for pregnant mommies would be to keep up on the protein as much as possible (even little bits at a time help) and eat anything that sounds good. Don't get so stressed out about eating exactly right that you don't eat cuz all the super healthy stuff makes your stomach turn. Better to eat something not-as-healthy (in moderation) than nothing at all. And lastly, take the time to rest! There's always stuff that can be done, but sometimes the only way to calm a queasy tummy is to just lay on the couch with a movie or a good book (or just nap :-)), and that's ok! Just enjoy resting with your baby.
I'm sure Jill is thrilled to be heading into her 2nd trimester. Slow down and enjoy the "honeymoon" phase :-)

  26. Hello Duggars! I have been following you all since day one! I have also been incorporating many principals they live by in my family's life as well and it has been such a blessing! I would suggest to Jill to REALLY research and try to eat more RAW organic (if she can get it) or at least, RAW fruits and vegetables the majority of the day if not the entire day to control morning sickness. Go to the internet, youtube, etc. to find out more. Eat lots of whole regular fruit in the mornings and afternoons and a HUGE salad in the evenings with homemade dressings. Really try to not eat dairy and meat to help with the morning sickness. She will get every vitamin mineral, proteins, etc. she and baby will need. Of course , drink plenty of water before each meal!!! Hope this helps!

  27. Jill looks great! :)
I had morning sickness throughout the first trimester and what really helped me keep food down and also stay hydrated was sparkling water. Good luck Jill and all you soon to be mommies out there :)

  28. I had morning sickness for two week straight and then it went away. Don't put too much stress on yourself to cook and sleep as much as you need! I had a meat aversion my entire pregnancy too. Treat yourself to a night out at a restaurant or takeout too! Growing a baby is a lot of work and well worth it!

    ReplyDelete
  29. My morning sickness lasted 3 months so sounds like she is right on track cause i believe that is the norm. I think that is just the body's way of coping and getting used to the little life growing inside :) I'm happy for Jill and Derick and wish them well :) Love your blog!

  30. Eat often, even though you won't feel like it!
My morning (all day, really) sickness lasted all 39 weeks 5 days of my pregnancy! It was so much worse on an empty stomach, so I tried to carry small snacks in my purse at all times. The taste of ginger ale still takes me back to being pregnant because it was one of the only things that somewhat helped.
Glad to hear Jill is feeling better!

  31. I have had 3 pregnancies and only with my first one did I have real bad morning sickness and the baby was a boy. Everyone is different and ever pregnancy is different so you can only go on how you feel. You can get advice from others but it may not happen that way with you. Wishing you the best on your pregnancy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. First of all, congratulations on your new marriage & pregnancy. You, Derick, and your baby are so blessed. I'm glad to hear the morning sickness is subsiding. I had to be hospitalized for it during my pregnancy & put on Zofran. I have found that ginger ale infused with Vitamin B6, Preggie Pops (you can get them at Babies 'R Us), and light snacks of crackers, pretzels, almonds, etc. help.

My advice to anyone who is expecting would be to cherish every moment of your pregnancy & your child's life. My husband's & my only baby (during seven years of trying) passed away in utero. I hope no parents ever have to experience such incomprehensible heartache. We do feel extremely blessed to have had our baby with us for the short time God allowed us to have him. We are honored to be our baby's parents. I wish everyone lots of health & happiness, and always cherish every moment you are blessed to have your loved ones with you. God bless you!

  33. Don't let anyone tell you that your morning sickness is all in your head! Do what feels right for you and your baby and get help if it is severe! Congrats! :)

  34. Eat lots of crackers and drink lots of juice it seems to calm the sickness

  35. All 3 children it lasted about 7 months. Anytime I smelled meat cooking, I had to leave the area pretty quickly. lol

  36. I didn't have it at all with my three but did have horrible acid reflux.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 25 weeks here and had to take supper strong meds in order not to loose baby from malnutrition which happened the first time. On top of meds I ate pretzels constantly little pieces and also I was told that there are light switch foods that can trigger off nausea for a short time. Sour cream chips is one (all though I had to hold my nose for the first one). It worked and I would feel better for a hour or so., But the very best I have heard from friends that can afford it is acupuncture. Blessings to Jill and Derrick

  40. The acupressure bands rescued me-I had sea bands brand.

  42. Papaya enzyme for the morning sickness.

  43. I was sick the entire pregnancy with both my children. Lucky Jill if she is done with the morning sickness.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My morning sickness lasted all 9 months with all 3 of my kids. Then I ended up with pre-eclampsia with the last 2. It was really hard with all of that and working as a nurse. But in the long run, pregnancy is a short time compared to anything else. And the sound of the cry was enough to make it all worth it! I love my babies and would do it all over again if I had to. Good luck Jill and soon you will be holding that little baby and forgetting all the pregnancy symptoms!

  45. please tell her she's gonna be a wonderful mama! :)

  46. For both my boys the morning sickness was completely gone around 16ish weeks. My mother in law taught me the trick of peppermint oil (from young living or doterra) on the ear lobes. It worked both times for me. Hopefully it passes soon for Jill!!

  47. I have 2 little blessings(an almost 2,year old girl and a 3 month old boy and we would love more) and with both pregnancies I had morning sickness all throughout the entire pregnancy. It did get better after 12 weeks or so.

  48. Did anyone else notice that if you work back 12 weeks and 1 day ago this was before the wedding...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Research pregnacies, she is actually just 10 weeks and 1 day :-) you are actually pregnant 2 weeks before you conceive

      Delete
    2. It is calculated from the date of your last period, so you are considered 2 weeks at the time of conception.

      Delete
    3. The 12 weeks actually starts from the date of your last period and she would have gotten pregnant 2 weeks after that, essentially when she was "2 weeks" pregnant is when you actually conceive (or about there, it depends on the length of your cycle)

      Delete
    4. It's actually a week or so after the wedding.

      Delete
    5. You're right; that's awkward. I thought they said it was conceived 2 weeks after... but then she would only be at 10 weeks

      Delete
    6. Because pregnancy is counted from the date of your last period not the conception date so she would have had her last period before the wedding and then gotten pregnant afterwards...don't think you can get pregnant in front of a chaperone

      Delete
    7. Correct, however, pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last cycle. Ovulation occurs 12-16 days later. Thereby, if she is 12wks 1 day now then conception occurred about 12 days after the wedding. Pregnancy is not an exact science, it's is calculated on a law of averages and every mum and baby are different. If you want to be pedantic then her pregnancy has actually lasted for (around) 10wks and 4 days so far. Wishing them all the best.

      Delete
    8. They start counting pregnancy from your last period ie before you conceive about 2 weeks before

      Delete
    9. For your information: a pregnancy starts counting 2 wks prior to having conceived. So upon conceiving, it is as though you have been pregnant for 2 wks. I will not go into details of how and why it is this way, but that is how it is and clinically she's 12.1 wks pregnant, even though she conceived around 10 wks ago... Hope that settles your concern. :)

      Delete
    10. Isn't that a little judgemental? With all the chaperones they had this is highly unlikely. Also, Jill had taken several pregnancy tests which showed up negative! Let's be glad for this beautiful couple and not putting them under a microscope. I personally love them for their high Godly standards!

      Delete
    11. Do realize that pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last period, rather than when you conceived? So you need to tale around 14 days on average of that. So more like 10weeks since conception. So she fell pregnant during the week after her wedding.

      Delete
    12. You don't know the exact date the photo was taken. It is rude to make insinuations. They have conducted themselves beautifully and deserve credit.

  49. Hello, Jill! Congratulations on the pregnancy! I am not currently pregnant. But, I have 4 children. Each one of them was different as far as morning sickness. With my first, I was sick 24/7 - not just in the morning. With my 2nd, I had evening sickness (I was never sick in the mornings with him? Strange I know). My 3rd child didn't really cause me that much morning sickness. With her, I had terrible heartburn and swelling of my feet. And my last one cause lots of back aches. So, I think you will find that each baby is different. But, one thing is alike with all babies - they are a blessing! Praying that you have a healthy pregnancy and delivery!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bread and butter pickels were a life saver for me. Like Jill, I was sick all throughout the day. The acid from the pickles seemed to really settle my tummy. I think my sickness lasted only a couple of months or so. Anyway, Congratulation Jill! You are going to make a fantastic mother!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I had morning sickness for the first three months! It was all day sickness to not just morning!

    ReplyDelete
  56. There has been much "controversy" over Jill and Derek choosing to share their pregnancy news so early instead of the more common nowadays approach of waiting until now - at 12 weeks. And I so admire them for sharing early! In a culture where babies are throw-away, we need to celebrate and acknowledge the preciousness of life at every stage! (And in every amount!)

    ReplyDelete
  57. I had hyperemesis and Mine last 30wks :(. The thing that really helped me was taking vitamin b6 2-3x a day.

    ReplyDelete
  58. All day sickness lasted well past 20 weeks and then returned in the 3rd trimester with first child and is doing the same thing with my 2nd pregnancy. Vitamin B-6 and Unisom was a Godsend in the first trimester and Zofran.

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ anonymous 7 - I totally agree!! Good for them! This is how it should always be. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I had morning sickness throughout both of my pregnancies. I have two girls and I figured it was the extra estrogen in my system. I tried every thing I heard off to curb the morning sickness. nothing helped.

    ReplyDelete
  61. No. 12 x 7 days is 84. That puts conception after the wedding but during honeymoon.

    Congratulations Jill and Derrick!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. A spoon of lime in the morning helps a lot

    ReplyDelete
  63. Jill-to help with your morning sickness. I always ate a piece of toast with butter not long after I woke up in the morning. Getting something light on the stomach helped with it. I also kept saltine crackers with me during the first trimester.

    ReplyDelete
  64. @Anonymous
Pregnancy is calculated from the first day of a woman's cycle, meaning that "1 week pregnant" would be the week of menstruation, followed by ovulation and conception at "2 weeks pregnant." A pregnancy test would be positive sometime around her first missed period, or 4 weeks pregnant. So technically the pregnancy would have just begun but she is already considered 4 weeks pregnant. Got it? :)

  65. Peppermints help alot...

    ReplyDelete
  66. One teaspoon chopped fresh ginger, put in a tea ball, brew for five minutes in a mug, put your feet up for 20 minutes and slowly drink. If you find driving is making you nauseous, make it in a travel mug about 10 minutes before you leave on your trip so it's cool enough you can easily sip it while driving. Last, if it is extremely severe and nothing is working, have twelve women, lay their hands on your belly and pray for the morning sickness to become mild.

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Lindsay, I had a similar experience. Once I got sick at around 6 weeks, it lasted until baby arrived. It was awful but so worth seeing those sweet little faces. It was the same with all 4 babies. With my boys, I also had horrible heartburn. Needless to say, I am not a happy pregnant lady, but I love, love, love the newborn phase!

  69. Congrats!.. I am 12 weeks 3 days and just recently started cooking again. I still can't cook chicken for some reason. Once in a while I will get a small wave of nausea but I feel so much better!.. This is baby #4 for me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I guess I was unusual, only had one pregnancy which were twins and not one day of sickness or nausea.

    ReplyDelete
  71. @Anonymous

Pregnancy is measured from the first day of your last period because women tend to know that date (or can work it out) but it's hard to know the exact day you conceive. It's not an exact science! Given that the wedding was 11 weeks and 6 days ago, I would guess she concceived pretty soon after it :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwich's that helped with the nausea feeling. So happy for you and Derick on your pregnancy.

    ReplyDelete
  73. As a midwife, Jill knows that you start your 40 weeks of pregnancy from the date of your last period. So, it was 12 weeks and 1 day ago for that. The baby is only 10 weeks and 1 day along, which would be exactly like Jill said, a little less than two weeks after they got married.

    ReplyDelete
  74. With my first one, crackers helped. Every one there after, I was on bed rest because of sickness. Just relax and let your family help.

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Anonymous
Pregnancy weeks start from the first day of your last period. So it makes sense that it was before her wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Anonymous
The gestational age starts counting at the women's last menstrual period. Conception usually occurs around week 2 (ovulation), and most won't get a positive test until they are already considered 4 weeks pregnant.
So if she is 12 weeks pregnant, they conceived around 10 weeks ago, which was definitely after the wedding.

  77. Fresh ginger to eat or smell, or ginger oil to rub on tummy. Grapefruit juice is great too.

    ReplyDelete
  78. @Amanda BuhlerI had the same experience with my second child. Was miserable the entire time. My first pregnancy I was so sick I had to have shots to try and stop the nausea. I only vomited one time with each pregnancy. I feel for her and
    Princess Kate!

  79. I've had friends who ate lots of beans and it really helped morning sickness to be minimal!

  81. I would love to see more about Jana!! She seems like a very sweet girl?? I think she is the most beutiful of the dugger girls:) Love the Show!

    ReplyDelete
  82. When I was pregnant with my daughter I was sick most of the pregnancy. I would suggest plenty of rest, snack often, and use Preggie pops. These worked well for me and they tasted great too:) congrats! God bless

    ReplyDelete
  83. I've had nine pregnancies with various degrees of sickness with each one. Usually the sickness is better after the first trimester, but there were a few where I was still getting sick at seven months. My best advice is to keep your stomach full. I use generic vitamins, and I'm pretty sure if I used a better quality vitamin, it would probably help. We are so excited for Jill!

    ReplyDelete
  84. @ Anon 30- Gestational age is calculated by using the last menstrual period, not conception. So you get an extra two weeks for free. IE- she got pregnant around 10 weeks ago

    ReplyDelete
  85. Pregnancies are dated from the day your period started not the day of conception. So in reality the baby is only 10 weeks old even though the doctors would say she is 12 weeks pregnant. So, no they did not conceive before the wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Ooooooo!!!! Exciting!!! I hope everything goes well!

    ReplyDelete
  87. It seems this is meant to slow a woman down as if she were sick. So go easy on yourself, stay cosy, curl up, rest, get in touch with your body and what your body is asking for. If your body wants you to curl up and sleep more do it ... I think when the body is adjusted and the baby is large enough to be stronger as it develops that is when the feeling of being sick goes away.

    ReplyDelete

  89. @ Anonymous 30 - that's because pregnancies are calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period, NOT from the day of conception.

  90. I really doubt Jill needs any advice seeing as how her mom has 19 children. :-)

  94. It's simply so the grieving couple doesn't have to manage the world grieving with them that people wait 12 weeks. They could have said they lost a pregnancy after the fact, had that happened, when they were ready to share that sadness. I wish them all the best for this and every pregnancy of course.

  95. For me it was so long ago ...with my first (my son is now 17) I was more sleepy no moring sickness, but with the second (my daughter 15) I had sickness that lasted straight through, got better in the 8th and 9th month, but very tired all the time and very moody as well.

Actually, the first two weeks of pregnancy, you aren't really pregnant. It's when you ovulate. It's kinda confusing. She posted this on September 11, so if she was 12 weeks on September 10th then count back the weeks (-2 weeks because they don't count) and she actually got pregnant around Around July 2nd or so....Well AFTER their wedding date of June 21.

    ReplyDelete
  97. To the person who implied that Jill's 12 weeks and 1 day predates their wedding - please remember that the medical community counts 2 extra weeks in pregnancy that don't really exist, because it dates back to a woman's last menstrual cycle. So, for at least the first two weeks of that cycle, a woman isn't even pregnant yet. So by the first missed period, medical community says for ease of calculation that you are 4 weeks, when in reality, you are only 2 weeks. So, in your example, you simply need to count back 10 weeks and 1 day for your answer. Pretty snide and unknowledgeable of you to suggest that she was intimate before marriage. Signed, Mom of 7

  99. @Anonymous I never understood why 3 months seems to be some rule that people must adhere to. Yes, most miscarriages happen early so some people like to get past the first trimester, but there's no reason anyone can't chose to share that information at any time they wish. I never waited and had no problems. Jill and Derick are excited, so let them be! There's so much to be sad about in this world, when people are happy I don't think they should be dictated to as to how and when they have to wait to share. Good for you Jill and Derick! Best wishes now and forever!

  100. I didn't have any so can't help sorry :/

    ReplyDelete
  101. @AnonymousPregnancy calculations go from the time of your last period so when you say 12 weeks you have actually been pregnant for around 10 weeks.

  102. I had nausea for a few weeks. Lemon drop candies and saltine crackers helped me through. Congratulations! Can't wait to see what blessings God has in store for your lives together. God bless!

  103. I think my due date is close to when Jill's is!!!! I am 12 weeks along as well and due on 03/23/2015 but am pregnant with my 5th baby!!!! I have been really sick as well with this pregnancy. Keeping my stomach full seems to be the only real thing that has helped me with this and all my other pregnancies. It is hard because nothing sounds good and sometimes I am gagging as the food goes down. The smell of peppermint and ginger oils do help a little bit. The only consolation is there is a light at the end of the tunnel and luckily I think I am getting close because I have actually felt better the last two days. I hope Jill's ends soon as well and she will really enjoy the 2nd trimester.

  104. I would drink ginger ale and eat teddy grahams. Those seemed to help with my morning sickness. However, mine lasted the entire time I was pregnant. Jill, I am glad to hear that your morning sickness is letting up. God bless you and baby Dilly! 🌈👶👼

  105. I did not have that much morning sickness, but I always had some food next to me when I went to bed so I could eat something before I got up. It helped a lot.

  106. When you find out your pg your usually already 4 weeks along, they count the start date 2 weeks prior to conception, so she most likely got pg right after her wedding.

  107. To the comment that 12 weeks and 1 day works backwards b4 the wedding......I'm sure they appreciate that since they deidnt even kiss b4 the I Dos!.......Pregnancy is figured on the last mentrual period....didn't think.of that did u?!Lovevthe Duggars and Dillards!

Hi. Pregnany is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual cycle, which would have been before the wedding. This does not mean anything else, which I think it what you were I plying.

    ReplyDelete
  109. anon #30 @ 1:59pm: fyi, when figuring out the gestation of the baby, the date of the last menstral cycle is used to calculate due date, etc. since most women ovulate at the midway point of their cycle, that is an extra 2 weeks that is included in the calculations. based on these lunar calculations, (and not knowing where she was in her cycle) it is possible jill got pregnant on her honeymoon, but it is much more likely she got pregnant around the 4th of july!

  110. Everyone is way different. I had no morning sickness until my 2nd and beginning of 3rd trimesters. My dautgher is now 6.6 months old. The blessing that I was waiting for in life considering I never thought I would even have children. I would cry about the fact of maybe never having a child now I have one and it turned my kidney function around for the better. :-)

Please pray that she will have peace through this and no infections. Thanks!

  118. I had morning sickness up until about 5 months along. However, I noticed that in the second and third trimesters foods like Pizza or Tacos or spaghetti (I think it was the tomato sauce and not the noodles) would give me awful awful heartburn during the night when I laid down to go to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Thanks to all of you who responded to that snide comment about timing. I wanted to do it yesterday and I knew that there was a calculation but I couldn't remember what it was since I've never been pregnant! Never too old to learn!

  120. I was only pregnant once but lost baby at 8 wks. I had awful morning, noon and night sickness. My mother suggested dry sugary cereal (like Honeycombs or Fruit Loops) kept at bedside and to eat some before getting out of bed in morning or as needed during the day. Also tea made from ginger root and papaya enzyme tablets help during the day. Good luck to a beautiful young woman. Prayer can't hurt.

  126. Wow, it is early:) And she is already showing. Not that I know a lot of pregnancy... but perhaps she is carrying twins? Yesterday I watched the episode of Jill having her wisdom-teeth taken out and... honestly, she is scared of pain... so, perhaps thinking over having the baby delivered in hospital might be an idea? Just saying:) Anyway, she looks stunning and even if she is young for our standars (the age of woman getting pregnant is much higher nowadays), Jill loves kids and is great with them, as well as she has an experience:) And she and Derick are very good to each other. I wish them best luck with their new family.

  127. I had afternoon sickness. Since I was expecting morning sickness, and felt fine, I didn't realize for a couple of days, that I was on a 'different clock'. But sure enough, around 2pm, yuk! It happened while I was out running errands the first few times. When I caught on, I arranged my day to be home by 2pm! Good luck Jill. You'll be a great Mom.

  130. I find this an interesting subject. Amazing how many different remedies for the same condition. Proves that not all women are created equal, in that some can never experience difficulties, while others have great challenges during that time. The miracle of life is amazing in no matter what age, or background, when the child is born, a life chosen by God. Which also leads me to this, I take offense at the term "Baby bump", that's how the unsaved world regards precious life. I feel uncomfortable using or hearing this term.

    ReplyDelete
  131. My doctor (years ago) gave vitamin B shots for morning sickness. They really helped me. I know some people take it by mouth, but most people with morning sickness can't keep it down. The shots were a life saver.

  132. I am 6 weeks pregnant and I have started having nausea. It is worse at night and I have had to eat crackers in the middle of the night. I have been sharing my baby news already because I feel the same way as Jill.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Whenever popsicles, lollipops, mints, or snacking didn't help, and whenever the nausea happened too often with a headache or some other pain, I would make an appointment with a chiropractor for a spine adjustment.... then walk out instantly feeling great! Also,...though nausea is not the best feeling in the world, because it's such a normal phase to feel nauseated in the beginning, it's a consoling feeling to know that the body is doing its work taking care of the baby.

    ReplyDelete
  134. @Anonymous What difference does it make how you stand when you are pregnant. Most women who are happy with their pregnancy want to see that baby bump asap! I even put pillows under my shirt in the beginning to see how i would look. i did not wear it in public but i was curious to be what i would look like pregnant. it was a happy time. Not afraid to show off a little bump!

  135. I vomited from 5 weeks until my son was born. The first thirty weeks it was anywhere from 3 to 15 times a day of vomit. I was admitted in the hospital many times - not fun! I wouldn't change it for the world though. My daughter was a little better. I was nausea/vomiting until 20 weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  136. My morning sickness lasted until about 6 months of pregnancy. Drinking lots of ice water helped-ginger ale and saltines didn't help at all. Neither did the motion sickness bands. It does get better though-hang in there!

  138. This is about morning sickness, I had crackers on my bedside table and before I got out of bed I ate a couple of crackers and seem to make things a lot better. God bless you Jill and Derick and your little one. I love you guys! TJ in MA.

  139. I'm glad it's starting to ease up for her. It can be hard to deal with when it's so severe you can't keep anything down.
It depends on which pregnancy. Some it lasted three months and some the entire pregnancy.
What helped me was soda with lots of ice for several of my kids. The rest, jolly ranchers or spearmint gum helped.

  140. Croutons and ginger ale or carbonated water. The bubbles seemed to help. With my last 2 chocolate seemed to smooth it. I wanted chocolate to cover my stomach lining. And nothing was spicy enough.

  144. I was regnant five times and lost two of them. With my first I wasn't sick mush with my second ( I lost at 16 weeks) it was terrible until I lost him. When I got pregnant with my daughter it lasted about four months. And my last lasted about three months. I had saltines ginger ale and rested as much as possible.

I'm very happy for jill and derick. Congrats on the baby and I hope your morning sickness stops soon. Good luck

  146. My God Daughter's mother is pregnant with her 2nd child. She was sick with her 1st child but not nearly as bad as this pregnancy. She has been so sick she can't work and 8 on home health to get fluids 3 times a week for dehydration because she can't keep anything down. She is currently around 28 weeks. She says it's better than it was in the beginning but still pretty bad.
