Bear Cub Picture

In last month's popular post about Derick Dillard's haircut, some of the snapshots had a picture in the background that many of you were curious about.

 Jill and Derick Dillard

Jill, Derick, and Israel Dillard

The haircut took place in the master bathroom at the Duggars' guesthouse, where the Dillards were staying before going back to Central America in mid February. Some of you said that the picture on the wall looked like Jim Bob holding a bear cub. It's actually him and Michelle. Mystery solved!

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, 1984 (the year they got married)

  1. Time to cut your hair if you are mistaken for a bear. Just sayin'

    1. They we're talking about the picture in the background being a bear not Derick!

    2. If Michelle's hair is being mistaken for an animal, same advice applies.

    3. Maybe 3:16 meant Michelle should get her hair cut if she was mistaken for a bear v

    4. I believe the OP was referring to Michelle and all her hair--not Derick!

  2. So why in the world would they want to display that photo in the master bathroom of their guest house?? But, his haircut looks way better! Jill has quite a bump for so early into her pregnancy!!

  3. I have a friend who put her wedding pics up all over her house. I see a pic of me with the other bridesmaids when I use her bathroom lol.

  5. Thank you for clearing that up. They were so cute back then. JB and Michelle still are a cute couple.

  6. I have never seen family pictures in a bathroom, especially when it's of your parents being romantic. This was stated as 'the year they got married'. I don't think this photo is post-wedding, so they were able to enjoy a normal dating relationship, something they forbid their own adult children to experience. How can they post a photo of what they consider now to be a sinful time in their lives? Just doesn't make sense to me.

    1. I think she's wearing a ring in that picture, but I can't tell if it's a wedding band or what. That aside, it is kinda strange to have a picture of your parents engaging in a PDA, in your bathroom. Why not a place of more honor? The bedroom, or a hallway, or with a group of pictures elsewhere in the house. The bathroom?? The humidity alone wouldn't be good for a picture or a wooden frame.

    2. Sinful? Sigh.....
It's not a sin to kiss your boyfriend. The duggars have never said it's a sin. They have said that a kiss might lead to other things that are sins according to the Bible. So they avoid any physical contact that might lead to those sins. Heaven knows a vast majority of dating couples are living in sin today because those safeguards weren't put in place in the beginning of the relationship.

    3. They admitted that they did things while dating that they are not proud of now and would not want their children to do. Remember?? One of the points for their current courtship rules.

  7. such a cute picture of jim bob and michelle! we are the same age as they are and been married the same length - so his hair cut and her hair style reminds us of our courting days in the 80's.......horrible hair decade for us all!

    1. Doesn't it look like some sort of small brown furry animal hanging over his shoulder? It could have been taking at a petting zoo, on first glance!

  10. SO many negative and nit picky comments here. Who cares what or why they have a certain picture in their guest bathroom? Im sure they have family pictures throughout the years all over their house.

  11. In the long shot of that photo, it does indeed look like Jim Bob is the one wearing the dark tan sweater, the hand is his, and he has something dark and furry or hairy climbing up over his shoulder. It's not until you see the closeup that you can see it's two people and two heads.

    1. Sure looks like there are two little dark brown legs standing behind him, and an animal arm around his neck! Big animal shoulder, animal hip, yep - looks like a baby bear from a distance, up on its hind feet.

  14. I'm so sad! I can't believe people have to make fun of where a picture is hung.
I feel like a safe place to keep up on the Duggar's has been violated.
For quite awhile now alot of the comments allowed are sarcastic, unkind and sometimes cruel.
I know everyone has a right to their opinions. This is starting to remind me of I Dig the Duggar's and other Facebook "fan" sites without the cursing.
If I can't stand reading the comments then there's no sense visiting here anymore.
May God bless you all. I will continue to pray for the family and watch their show but I now feel like I have no safe place go.
Mom always told me if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. I'm well done.

    2. I can't imagine how tough it must be to weed through all these comments. I too get disgusted with all the negativity, but I don't blame you (Lily & Ellie) for it. I just wonder why people like that even bother coming here just to post their nit-picky and often downright rude opinions! This is a site for Duggar fans, and if you admire the Duggars, you should give them grace in (non-sinful) situations where you might do differently. If you don't like the Duggars, please don't force yourself upon those of us who do!
Lily and Ellie, please don't stress out about moderating the comments. Nobody blames you! I'd personally love it if you could delete ALL the negative mean remarks and have this be a place of positivity, but I understand if that's not possible.

    3. Ellie, if you catered to all the special snowflakes here, you'd have a blog with nothing but similar responses, and how boring would that be? Eighty comments that all said, "Yes! I agree!" I think that would drive more people away.

    4. I do agree, the comments are over board and it takes the fun out of the blog. I wish these comments wouldn't be posted, but I do understand its hard.
You do amazing an amazing job ladies!

    5. Anonymous @11:23 I'm sure it's hard for Ellie to sift through a bunch of comments everyday and decide if they can be posted without becoming a one sided blog. Just do what I do and ignore those that are not so nice and understand that we live in a world full of sin and we can't avoid It no matter where we run off to.

    6. Lily and Ellie, you are doing a great job. There are so many positive comments that you take time to put out there. And you very fairly put some of the negative comments, as well I think you have to allow all points of view as long as people aren't cruel about what they say. Critiquing a picture in a bathroom isn't a smear on anyone's character. Anon. 11:23 needs to chill.

    7. This is a comments section and yes some people will make stupid comments or observations. That's what you get in a comments section. Sounds like several fans don't like varying comments and want them all to be written a certain way.

    8. I have shared the same comment Lily and Ellie as 11:23 in the past. As one who has followed this blog from the onset - it saddens me how many troll comments are allowed. I understand this is an income source and tough to moderate. However, it really begins to affect the integrity of the blog and Christ's message when the majority of comments become so off-topic and critical of the family. I know controversy brings numbers, but I miss the days when the comments came from fans and those sincerely seeking a blog which is countercultural in a hate-filled world. I rarely feel encouraged when I visit this blog anymore.

    9. I agree with the original commenter. I was just thinking the other day how the comments have definitely changed in tone to being very critical, judgmental, nitpicky, etc. When I first started reading this blog in the early days, it was refreshing after some of the other, more gossipy and unedifying blogs and their comments.

    10. Lilly and Ellie,
I wrote the original comment. I'm hardly a "special snowflake".
Before Josh fell from grace, the general vibe here was very positive and I came away feeling uplifted and smiling.
After the headlines were plastered all over the place, the comments got more and more depressing. I truly understand and empathize with you at how hard this blog must be especially since Josh's sex addiction came to light. I always ask God to bless you for giving so much of yourselves.
What I'm so sad about is that the tried and true Duggar fans who've been reading here for years now have to put up with so much more negative comments. Most of the folks who comment here now came from the popularity of the situation.
It's great for ratings but hard on the heart. I come away with a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sorry I miss the old days so much. None of this is your fault. I guess now the bad outweighs the good. I guess the picture jeers pushed me over. I was expecting a good chuckle and instead got the feeling that it's perfectly normal to point out how stupid someone is to put a picture like that in a bathroom.
God bless you and give you strength to deal with this.

    11. It really makes you wonder why people come to this site if they hate the Duggars and never have anything nice to say. Don't they have anything better to do with their time than to troll this site? The answer must be NO.

    12. I, for one, like the diversity of opinions. It makes for an interesting blog.

    13. Yes, I fully agree! This used to be an encouraging place for Duggar fans, but it's been taken over by trolls who apparently have little to do with their days than post negative comments. You gotta feel sorry for them.

    14. I agree, I rarely feel encouraged visiting this blog anymore. I've decided to visit less often steer clear of the comments. Read the blogpost, look at pics, but no comments. There's more trolls than fans at this point.

  16. Lily and Ellie: I don't find the comments here overly nasty or ungodly at all. They are simply differing opinions and points of view. Some also are thought provoking. Please don't make this site a 'cater to the fans only place' as a good mix is more interesting.

  17. Such a cute picture of them-for people criticizing them dating, can I just say, they were on a different part of their journey with the Lord. Now He has convicted them that courting and staying pure for marriage is the best(I agree), and I'm proud of them for following their convictions!
Also, Derick looks great now with his haircut!:)

  19. I like the Duggars also, but some of the comments about the picture made me laugh, because I also wonder why the picture in the bathroom. I like the Duggars, but I don't agree with everything they say or do and I'm not offended when somebody makes an off comment. Lily and Ellie, I like all the different comments. They are not overly mean just kind of funny. I quess I'm not as sensitive as some of the other readers. Lily and Ellie, your doing a fantastic job..

  20. Since the Duggars are willing to put their lives on TV and social media for all to watch, they must be willing to accept the compliments and/or the criticisms that come with it. They don't have to post anything here they don't want their fans to see. I agree with 6:47 PM above - different viewpoints keep it interesting. If this blog is meant to be a "positive comments only" place, then the moderators don't have to post the other comments. I enjoy reading the posts and keeping up with what is happening in the Duggar family in real time and this blog allows the fans to do that.
