As we posted this morning, today is Israel's 5th birthday! The Dillards are social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Israel was still able to see each of his grandmothers from a distance. Can you tell who is looking through the window?

Israel Turns 5

Wishing Israel Dillard a very happy 5th birthday! Israel is the fourth of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 17 grandchildren, and he recently registered for public Kindergarten.

A Grand-Duggar Registers for School

Big news from the Dillard family. Jill and Derick just registered Israel, who turns five in April, for kindergarten! Although they have been homeschooling, the parents of two decided to put their oldest in public school, at least for his first year. Israel will be in the same school district that Daddy was in as a child.

Duggars Attend Query Wedding

If you have followed the Duggars from the beginning, chances are you have seen photos or footage of them with the Query family. Debbie Query lost her husband a long time ago, and she and her four children (Mandie, Heidi, Amara, and Peter) have been friends with the Duggars for years.

You may remember us mentioning Debbie's annual single women's Valentine's Day tea and luncheon that she has organized with help from the Duggars. Mandie is an incredible musician and has taught many of the Duggar children how to play violin and piano.

Yesterday, Mandie married David Poemoceah in Bentonville, Arkansas, and the Duggars attended the wedding. Jana Duggar was a bridesmaid, and Israel Dillard was the ring-bearer.

Dillards at the Farm

Derick Dillard has officially completed his first year of law school, so has been soaking up the family time that he now has more time for. Those of you who have friends of family members who have gone through law school (or perhaps you have gone through it yourself) know how time consuming it is. As one of their first post-finals activities, Jill and Derick took the kids to a friend's farm.

Dillards Build a House

Jill and Derick Dillard have just announced some exciting news! They have been living in a rental home but are about to move into a new home that they just built. The house has gone up quickly over the past several months. It's a ranch-style home with a brick front and siding back, located in a subdivision in Lowell, Arkansas, which is only about 20 minutes from Jim Bob and Michelle.

Derick's Braces

For those who have wondered about Derick's braces and orthodontic work, here is an explanation...

Derick chose to have braces put on his teeth four years ago because his doctor recommended it, but jaw expansion surgery was a prerequisite in order to make room in his mouth. Unfortunately, the surgery moved his midline over, which means that his top two front teeth are no longer centered, and fixing them is likely not worth the hassle. Derick hopes to get his braces off soon.Below is a photo of Derick before his surgery.

While the Dillards are no longer part of Counting On, we still try to feature them on this blog regularly. It has been a while since we have shared new photos of Israel and Sam, so we thought we would go ahead and post a couple.

In case the moms out there are wondering what kind of bib Sam is wearing, I (blog author Ellie) received one as a gift to use when my infant son starts eating solids, and I have heard great things about it. It's the BabyBjorn Soft Bib.

Dillard Update December 2018

It has been several weeks since we have posted a Dillard update. Derick Dillard is nearing the end of his first semester at University of Arkansas School of Law. He is in the midst of final exams, which began this week and run through next week. Israel, three-and-a-half, and Samuel, 17 months, are as adorable as ever.

Turkey in Texas

What did our American readers do for Thanksgiving? Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth celebrated in Texas with some of Austin's extended family. And yesterday, Gideon turned nine months old. We think he looks a bit like cousin Israel Dillard in this photo.

Dillard Update

Samuel Dillard

The Dillards are two months into Derick's law school education, and life has been busy. Between long days in class and late nights studying, Derick has been forced to spend more time away from his family than in past seasons of life.

To stay connected, Jill and Derick make regular date nights a priority, and they take advantage of opportunities to bond as a family whenever Derick's schedule allows. Sometimes that means bringing homemade food to the law school cafeteria so Jill and the boys can eat dinner with Papa during his study break.

Last month, Derick's brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Deena Dillard, welcomed a baby boy. Needless to say, Jill and Derick are thrilled for Israel and Samuel to have their first cousin on the Dillard side.

Dillard Cousin #1

A little less than two weeks ago, Israel Dillard and Samuel Dillard met their first Dillard cousin! Jaxon Michael Dillard was born to Derick's brother, Dan, and sister-in-law, Deena, on September 5th. Derick and Dan don't have any other siblings, so the Dillard side will always be small compared to the Duggar side.

Grandma and Grandpa Duggar

When you have 11 grandchildren under the age of nine (five of whom are under 17 months), photo shoots are almost impossible. The Duggar family recently met up to take pictures, and Jim Bob and Michelle made sure to snap one with their grandkids. It's a candid shot, but it's still lovely!

Within the next few weeks, Duggar grandchild #12 will arrive.

Duggars Vote and Enjoy the Outdoors

Yesterday was Election Day in four states, as residents in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, and Texas headed to the polls to choose their choice candidates in the primary races. The Duggars, who have always been actively involved in politics, took time out of their days to exercise their civic duty.
