Mozarella Cheese and Birthday Parties

Just a few hours to go until tonight's new episode of Counting On. We already posted one promo video, and we have two more to share.

The first clip is quite comical. While shopping with Jinger in Laredo, Texas, Jeremy Vuolo gets a little too excited about the five-pound block of fresh mozzarella cheese and ends up buying the whole thing. When they return home, he might just find that shredding it is going to be a bit more difficult than he imagined.

In the second video, the Duggars come together to celebrate Spurgeon Seewald's first birthday.

Recap: 'The Jinger Gown'

Counting On "The Jinger Gown"

  • Jinger is taking her mom, her four oldest sisters, Ben, Derick, Spurgeon, and Israel on a three-day trip to Fredericksburg, Virginia, so she can choose her wedding dress. Jeremy’s parents, Chuck and Diana, live on the East Coast and will meet them there to join in the festivities.
  • “As far as looking forward to the wedding, I don’t think I could be more excited,” says Jeremy.
  • Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy are in the girls’ room preparing for the trip and talking about what Jinger wants in a dress. Jinger also tells her sisters who she has chosen to stand up with her in the wedding. “I don’t think she really even asked us,” says Joy, laughing. “She kind of told us.”
  • Jinger’s family refers to her style as “the Jinger style.” They say she is classy and trendy.
  • Everyone arrives in Virginia. Chuck Vuolo, Derick, Ben, Israel, and Spurgeon hang out together while the gals go wedding dress shopping. "I'm excited that Jinger has chosen to include my mother and father," says Jeremy, who is back in Laredo, where he pastors a small church.
  • "Any opportunity to visit with Jinger is a joy...and we were looking forward to meeting the family," says Chuck.
  • The girls arrive at Ava Laurenne Bride, where Jill bought her dress, and reunite with co-owner Wendy. They also meet Renee Miller, the dress designer from Pensacola, Florida, to whom Wendy introduced Jinger.
  • "I cannot believe that Jinger is going to be getting married!" says Michelle. "Getting to spend this time with Jinger and the sisters is such a precious thing."
  • Everyone is stunned when Jinger walks out in the first of three dresses designed by Renee. "It was just amazing being in a wedding dress," says Jinger. Jinger likes the first gown, but it is very basic, and she is wanting more details.
  • The second dress is very lacy, and Jinger loves it. The other women also agree it's more "Jinger" than the first one. "I think all my sisters have an opinion...and so I really appreciate their advice because I've never done this before," says Jinger.
  • Jinger falls in love with the third dress the minute she looks at herself in the mirror. "This is like everything and more," says Jinger. "I love everything about this dress."
  • "I just overwhelmingly thought that this was her," says Renee Miller. "I just knew that dress #3 would be the dress that we would be able to name The Jinger."
  • "There's a lot of dress in this beautiful train, but it doesn't overpower her at all," says Diana Vuolo. "She just radiates, and I think she is going to bring my son to tears."
  • While the girls shop, the guys go out for ice cream. Derick and Ben ask Chuck Vuolo for advice on transitioning from one child to two.
  • The Seewalds, Duggars, and Dillards say Spurgeon is laid back, happy, and interactive, while Israel is strong-willed but a sweetheart.
  • After dress shopping, everyone heads to a local art shop to create canvas paintings for Jinger and Jeremy's home. Jill and Derick paint a faceless picture of Jinger and Jeremy; Ben (while Jessa takes care of the kids) paints an artistic coffee cup; Jana and Joy paint a girl holding an umbrella; Michelle and Jinger paint a city skyline; and the Vuolos paint a picture of a jewel that says "she is far more precious than jewels," signed Mom and Dad.
  • Jill and Derick have been home from Central America for a few weeks and are glad to be with family.

In case you missed last night's show, check out this video clip of the moment when Jeremy Vuolo walks in the room to surprise Jinger. (Click here to read our recap.) "I don't think I'm driving people nuts..." (Jinger)

"All my siblings, when they're interested in somebody...they can't think, they can't concentrate. Sometimes you just feel like breaking their phone."
-Josiah Duggar

During last night's episode of Counting On, Jana, John-David, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, and Jason Duggar continue their stay at Signet 3 Survival School. All the siblings, as well as the guides, notice that Jinger, who had just started courting Jeremy Vuolo at the time, is a bit preoccupied with her cellphone.

Is John in a Courtship?

The media sure loves the Duggars...especially the gossip sites! Rumor has it that John-David Duggar is in a courtship.

This afternoon, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar released a statement to put that rumor to rest:

John is not courting and not in a relationship...and he has never been in one! Just thought we'd set that straight. He's still waiting for the right one at the right time.

Jim Bob, who has tried multiple times to find someone for John, joked in a recent episode that he is accepting applications from eligible women.

After Jessa's wedding, Jana, John-David, Jinger, and Joseph shared their views on relationships with PEOPLE. Click here to read more.

Jill (Duggar) Dillard: Wedding Details

Duggar is now Jill Dillard! She and Derick became husband and wife yesterday afternoon at Cross Church in Springdale, Arkansas.

The wedding was attended by more than 1,000 family and friends. The couple was especially thankful that Derick's mom, Cathy, who is battling cancer and was not feeling well enough to attend the rehearsal dinner, was able to watch them tie the knot.

"I'm very excited at this wedding," Jackson Duggar told PEOPLE. "Derick is like a brother already. He tells jokes [and] he plays around with us."

Jill is the first Duggar daughter to tie the knot, and letting her go has been a bittersweet time for the family.

"It really hit me that Jill was leaving as she was packing her bag the other night," Jim Bob Duggar told PEOPLE. "We all realized she was really leaving. We are so glad that Derick is an answer to her prayers. It's an emotional time, but a joyful time."

The wedding was a family affair for the Duggars. Five of Jill's sisters (Jana, Jessa, Jinger, Joy, and Johannah) were bridesmaids, and the three youngest (Jennifer, Jordyn, and Josie), along with niece Mackynzie, served as flower girls. John and Joseph were groomsmen, Jackson and Michael were ring bearers, and five of the remaining Duggar boys were ushers.

"Jill is just enjoying this time," Jinger told PEOPLE. "Derick has such a tender, caring heart. I couldn't have picked a better person for my sister. We are going to miss her so much."

Jill and Derick followed in the footsteps of Josh and Anna, who were married in 2008, and saved their first kiss for the altar.

"You can really get to know each other on every level without the physical part of it," Dillard told PEOPLE. "I am the most blessed man to have Jill."

The newlyweds will spend their honeymoon in an undisclosed location.

Recap: "Something New" and "Couples' Weekend"

19 Kids and Counting "Something New"
  • The Duggar children are accomplished musicians, but Jim Bob and Michelle admit they are not as musical. To kick off the show, Joy-Anna gives Michelle a violin lesson.
  • The kids hold a secret meeting to plan a dinner theater for Mom and Dad. Jana heads the operation and delegates tasks to her siblings.
  • "We still have some things to figure out...but with a few weeks left, hopefully we will be able to pull off something great," says Jana.
  • Jessa and Jinger head down to Hot Springs, Arkansas, for a cooking lesson with Ben Seewald's sisters, Jessica and Danielle. The girls prepare one of Ben's favorite meals, Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and apple pie with ice cream.
  • Should Ben expect Jessa to prepare a home cooked meal every night? According to Michelle, "expectations ruin relationships."
  • "There may be some TV dinners," says Jim Bob.
  • While cooking, Jessa learns that Ben is "very methodical and systematic" and that he snores. Jessica and Danielle ask Jessa if they should be expecting any "exciting news." Jessa's response? "Ask Ben!"
  • When Ben comes home and tries the meal, he approves.
  • Meanwhile, Jana and Joseph spend time with Josh and Anna in Washington D.C. The crew heads to the mountains to go downhill skiing.
  • Josh and Joseph hit the slopes, while Anna takes Mackynzie and Michael for a ski lesson. Anna forgets to put on her snow gear, so she ends up skiing in a skirt for a couple hours before changing. Later, Josh and Anna head out on a ski date.
19 Kids and Counting "Couples' Weekend"
  • Jana, Jill, and Jessa attend a birth. Jill acts as the primary midwife under supervision, Jana assists, and Jessa snaps pictures for the couple.
  • Jim Bob and Michelle visit a specialist to evaluate Michelle health and her ability to have more children. Michelle says she is content not having any more children, but if it is God's will to bless her with another child, she wants to know how her body will react.
  • Michelle takes a blood test to determine if her body is going through menopause. Find out the results in next week's episode.
  • Ben and Jessa fly out to Washington D.C., and Jinger goes along as their chaperone.
  • Josh takes Ben to the gym to work out and drills him with questions. "Yah, I'm not going to go easy on him," admits Josh.
  • Later, the crew takes a trolley ride to show Ben the city. "The trip was so much fun," says Jessa. "We really had a great time together."

Duggar Girls on Being 'Normal'

Livy, one of our readers, shared an interview with us that she did with the four oldest Duggar girls for Crown of Beauty, an online magazine. Here are the highlights (click here to read the full interview):

Livy kicked off the interview by asking the sisters to describe one another:
Jill: "I'll start with Jana. Jana is 24, and she is the oldest of the girls. She's kind of a quiet personality whenever she's around other people. At home she'll talk more, but she's kinda more quiet and reserved. And yet she can get a lot accomplished pretty fast, like she's got that first-born tendency to be able to organize the troops when she needs to! So that's Jana."

Jana: "Jill. She is our fourth born. She is very fun loving and caring, and wants to disciple young ladies. She's always holding babies, she's a student midwife right now, so she is hopefully going to get her midwifery license within the next year or two. She's the one who helps with a lot of things around the house, she has a number of things that she does. Number one, helping with the music when we go and sing and play at different places for different events. She's the one who helps us get it all together, and makes sure we sound good. Jill is a lot of fun!"

Jinger: "I'll describe Jessa. She is a very organized person, so she keeps our house free from clutter. She is really good at playing guitar. She's done some prison ministry. She and I just got back from prisons in Florida, and so that was really, really exciting, just ministering to the inmates there. So she has a heart for reaching out to younger girls and really just coming alongside them, and ministering to them."

Jessa: "Jinger is a super spunky personality. Very fun-loving, definitely has a true servant's heart. She's always looking for ways to serve others, and is a huge blessing to those around her. We've had the opportunity to serve together in prisons, and even locally in our juvenile detention center. And yeah, she just has a huge heart for others."

Jessa explained the girls' reasons for writing Growing Up Duggar. In addition to answering questions from viewers, they also wanted to show that they are a normal family.

Jessa: "People sometimes look at our family and say, 'Well you just don't have the same challenges and struggles that we do.' Sometimes they think we're perfect or something! But we're not.
So we wanted to let people know... just think of the challenges you have in a family of two or three, then multiply that about ten times over!"

"'We have sibling quarrels and times we don't get along, but what we wanted to do was share some of those stories and share the principles we've found from the Bible, that have helped us work those things out, and keep our family relationships strong."

Livy: "Was writing this book a dream that any of you had as little girls?"

Jessa: “I don't really ever remember saying, 'Hey, I think we should write a book someday!' Our parents have written a couple books, and we had seen that process, so we knew it was a lot of work, and I think we were all kind of shying away from it. We kept being approached by friends, and people asking us if we would share our stories and probably in a book form. So we typed some things up, then thought, 'We really should just do this.' Before we all get married and go on our way and we're not together anymore."

Jill: “Yeah, and having come out of our teen years, we felt like this was a perfect time to be able to encourage other young ladies..."

Jessa: "Just like any other girl, we've all struggled with thinking, 'Oh, I'm not beautiful, I'm not loved....' And it's not a one time fix. It's a daily struggle. And even among us sisters, just comparing ourselves or saying, 'Oh your outfit is way cuter than mine!' Or just these feelings of 'you're ugly,' or whatever it may be, are lies the devil really throws at you, and so we talk about how we've been able to overcome those things in our lives by going to God's Word and what He says about us." We're not a mistake, none of our physical features, none of our design is a mistake."

Season Finale Recap

Tonight on the season finale of 19 Kids and Counting, "Baby Gender Reveal & the Final Weigh In"...
  • Mackynzie tries to bribe Mr. Jim to reveal the gender of Anna's baby early, offering to give him her monkey. Mr. Jim won't budge.
  • One Sunday morning, the entire family visits Restoration Church, where Jim Bob and Josh's personal trainer attends. In cahoots with Jim, Pastor Howard reveals the gender of grand-Duggar #3 to the entire congregation. He ties the announcement into his sermon on family relationships: "I'm just so excited to let you in on our little secret, that you're having a baby boy," he tells Josh and Anna after calling them up to the front.
  • Anna says she would have been happy either way but was secretly hoping for a boy. She and Josh have chosen a name but are not announcing it.
  • The service is "peppier" than the Duggars' home church, by they enjoy seeing how other people worship the Lord. "We were definitely expecting it to be lively and just a different style of worship, and it was," says Jill.
  • Jim Bob, Michelle, Josh, and Anna meet with their doctor for the results of the weight-loss challenge. Josh is still overweight but is no longer considered obese. Jim Bob's health has also improved, but his triglycerides are still high. For both men, this is just the beginning of a long journey.
  • The day before Jim Bob and Josh's final workout, personal trainer Steve Conley gathers the family in the living Josh and divides them into two teams, with Grandma Duggar on Steve's team.

  • The final workout is an obstacle course. Most of the family gets away with fun tasks, like walking across balance beams, riding bikes, pushing utility vehicles, eating pickles, and changing doll diapers. Jim Bob and Josh have to race through a challenging course spanning across one acre.
  • At the end, Jim Bob grabs the flag at the top of the climbing wall seconds before Josh.
  • Then comes the final weigh-in. Jim Bob gets a four-pound weight advantage for winning the obstacle course, and Josh gets a four-pound weight advantage because the doctor says he has made the biggest improvement.
  • Jim Bob, who weighed 214 pounds at the beginning of the contest, ends at 194 (198 minus 4). Josh, with an initial weight of 224 pounds, ends at 198 (202 minus 4).
  • "Words can't describe how proud I am of both of you to see that you did great on this weight-loss challenge," says Steve. "I have one more surprise that you need to watch out for." At that moment, John-David and Joseph sneak up from behind and pour coolers of ice-cold sports drink on Jim Bob and Josh.
  • As punishment, Josh makes breakfast in bed for Jim Bob. He prepares toast, turkey bacon, eggs, and a smoothie. "I tried to make sure that I didn't load up on any butter or anything like that," says Josh. "I gave him dry toast, you know, so it wasn't that bad."
  • "Josh is a good cook, and he can really surprise me because there's a lot of things I just didn't know he knew how to make," says Anna.
  • Jordyn and Josie wander into the kitchen and sweet-talk Josh into making breakfast for them. The two girls and Josh carry a tray up to Jim Bob, who is fast asleep. "Josh fixed a wonderful breakfast," says the dad of 19.
  • Both Jim Bob and Josh plan to continue losing weight by eating healthy and exercising regularly.
  • At the end of the show, Josh and Anna gather the family to make a big announcement. After much prayer and wise counsel, they have decided to accept the job that Josh was offered and move to Washington D.C.
  • "Arkansas is home for me," says Josh. "I really have no desire to move away, but sometimes when you have opportunities, you have to go out and seek them."
  • "I'm happy for them," says Jessa. "But at the same time it's really sad because we're all so close."
  • "Michelle and I have dedicated our children to the Lord from the time that they were small, and our goal is for each one of them to follow where the Lord leads them, and if He leads them away from our area and we just see them once in a while, then that's the way it's meant to be," says Jim Bob.

Recap: Duggars in Kyoto, Japan

On tonight's episode of 19 Kids and Counting, "Duggars Do Asia"...
  • Fuji TV invites the Duggars to be guests on its live morning show. Minutes before the start of the show, Jackson announces that he has to use the bathroom. With the help of a member of the Japanese film crew, who gathers Jackson in his arms and runs him to the washroom, Duggar #15 makes it back to the set just in time.
  • The Duggars tour Tokyo with Unbelievable, a Japanese TV show that introduces the family to Japan's oddities.
  • When the family watches the sectioning of a tuna fish, Josie covers her ears and refuses to sample it.
  • The Duggars attend a carnival set up by Unbelievable, where the highlight is a goldfish catching contest. The Duggars compete against and catch eight more fish than Master Lida, the Japanese champion in goldfish catching. "We did have like 25 people versus one, but we still won," says John-David.
  • The Duggars travel from Tokyo to Kyoto on a Japanese bullet train, which reaches speeds of 190 miles per hour.
  • Jim Bob, a man who is not afraid to ask for directions, successfully gets his family from the train station to the hotel but uses the wrong language to thank passersby.  "So once again my dad was trying to use his Spanish," says Jessa. "He'd be like 'gracias, gracias."'
  • Jim Bob encourages all the men out there not to hesitate to ask for directions.
  • The Duggar women (Grandma, Michelle, Anna, Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy) dress up like Japanese geishas, complete with kimonos and traditional hairdos and makeup.
  • They bring in the little girls (Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn, Mackynzie, and Josie) to see their costumes. Johannah is confident that she can identify everyone but encourages her little sisters and niece to guess. The four youngest are a little freaked out, but after the tears are dried, the little girls happily try on their own kimonos.
  • At first, Jinger wants no part in dressing up, but her sisters talk her into it. All the Duggar women learn how difficult it is to put on the many layers of a kimono. "You can't put one of those things on by yourself," says Jana.
  • Meanwhile, the guys, including Michael, don kimonos of their own and learn Samurai fighting. They enjoy acting out dramatic fake deaths and performing a Hollywood fight scene. At the end of the skit, one of the Samurais jokingly asks Jim Bob for permission to court his daughters. Jim Bob's reaction is to draw the Samurais sword, catching him off-guard.
  • After an eventful day, the Duggars take a nap in a Japanese capsule hotel. Although the hotel separates men and women by floor, they make an exception for the Duggars. The children are so intrigued by the capsules that they don't end up taking naps.
  • When asked if they enjoy taking naps, both Jordyn and Josie response with a "no."
  • Jim Bob gets a snooze in, but Michelle and the kids play games. "We heard you, though," says Michelle to Jim Bob, laughing. "We knew you were taking a nap."
  • Anna sneaks off to purchase a pregnancy test but waits until her anniversary to take it. See the results on next week's show!
  • Later in the day, the Duggars, who are pickle fanatics, visit a pickle restaurant. Kyoto is known for its pickles. "Our family has a thing for pickles," says Josh. "And when I say a thing, I mean a thing." Everyone but Jim Bob, the only non-pickle-lover, enjoys tasting the restaurant's 25 pickle dishes. (Six "pickles" in three lines of text, not bad!)
