New Photo--Dillard Family of 4

You all have been asking for a photo of Jill and Derick Dillard and their two sons, and we finally have one to share with you! Israel Dillard turned two in April, and Samuel Scott Dillard is 23 days old. Aren't they just a sweet little family?

  1. Thank you for graciously sharing this photo with us. I have been praying for this precious little family, especially Mama. May God continue to bless and strengthen.

    1. I think Israel looks like a Dillard. He has Derick's mom's and his brother Dan's eyes. Samuel is more a Duggar to me, particularly in the photo with the elephant shirt. His eyes look like Jill's. But they change so rapidly. I thought Israel was more a Duggar at first, but now I see Dan and Cathy, particularly in the eyes.

    2. Israel reminds me of his grandma Cathy, while Samuel looks more like a Duggar - for now. Sometimes their faces change so much in the first year or two.

  3. What a lovely family picture! So now can all the wild speculation stop and everybody chill??

  4. That still doesn't explain what happened, and if everyone is OK now. She was pregnant for awhile in an area with Zika. She probably had another rough delivery. We saw a NICU type picture of the baby. Then they all disappeared for awhile.

It would be nice if they explained some things to the fans, not just post selfies with no info. We don't need all the details, but if they would just say, "The delivery didn't go as planned and Samuel spent a few days in the NICU due to (whatever) while Jill remained hospitalized to heal from (whatever)" or something similar, we'd understand. They sure gave more details the first time around.

    1. Sorry, but that’s probably not a NICU type setting that Samuel was in! He doesn’t even have an IV (often IVs are place in a vein in a newborns head, especially in NICU), he’s pink, crying, and they are allowing Derrick to hold him. And, IF she had Zika, and Samuel ended up with microcephaly, we would see that from these photos. Might there have been complications? Probably, if she had an unplanned C-section. Might Samuel have had difficulties? Possibly. Do they HAVE to tell us? No. All this drama about Jill and Samuel are JUST speculations, and though they might be true, it’s kind of ridiculous to guess and whine that the information they give is just not good enough. I’m curious too, but sheesh, people need to just calm down.

    2. Agreed! It is strange!

    3. These details you're asking for are private and she does not owe her fans an explaination. Be happy she looks grat, the baby is healthy and the mily is happy.

    4. Ya'll need to calm down. I'm sure all your nosy questions will be answered soon.

    5. We will all find out when it's aired on tv soon. Until then enjoy the pic.

    6. I'm sure they'll share exactly what they want to share, when they want to share.

    7. In the photo, he did have an iv (in his left hand, bag of fluids/meds on the bed near Derick). Scalp IV's are common but not the only option. He also had a pulse oximeter to track his oxygen levels & heart rate (left foot), EKG leads to more accurately track his heart rate & rhythm (3 stickers with wires on his chest), an oxygen cannula in his nose, a blood pressure cuff (right leg), and a Posey splint/wrist restraint on his right hand which blocked whatever was in that hand from the photo (those are usually used to keep their hand still so an IV, line, or monitor stays in place). The photo could have been taken in the delivery room or the NICU, and was clearly taken shortly after birth since Derick was still in his delivery room clothing. However, Samuel's umbilical cord looked like he had been born at least a little while before the photo was taken (maybe a couple/few hours). This indicates that he had at least temporary difficulties after birth, but there are many possibilities that could have resolved quickly. He seems to be at home now. What is crystal clear is that Jill and Derick have chosen not to tell the world any further details at this time. We can respect that without attempting to minimize what we do know about Samuel's birth. It doesn't do anyone any good to distort the truth and act like everything was ok when clearly it wasn't. Stick to the facts, wish them well if so inclined, and then quit prying. We'll hear more if (and only if) they decide to share.

    9. Most likely that was the radiant warmer in the c-section room. Derrick was gowned up. And all the things attached are normal procedures for taking vitals for a newborn. He could have had a low sugar at birth and needed some D10 thru an IV. No big deal. He may have gone to mothers room or the NICU after this pic was taken. Since he was term if he stayed in NICU it was probably short-lived, 3 days or so. The bag of fluids could have been precautionary as well. This is the life of a newborn! Sometimes they need a little help adjusting especially if the labor was long and traumatic like it could have been here. It can wear them out just like it does the mother, and depleat their energy stores. I was a NICU and baby nurse for 7 years before retiring to my 4 kids and homeschool life. Enjoyed both seasons of life!!

  6. Still not a single word about the health of mom or baby. No pictures with the Duggar clan. Fans have been worried for weeks now. There's a big elephant in the room!

    1. Yes, I agree fully.

      Delete
    2. The ones who are creating the elephant in the room are NOT the Duggars/Dillards. They don't owe us any details. They have the right to decide what they want to make public or keep private. The mom and baby look perfectly healthy to me, and I'm not going to waste time wondering and worrying if they are or if they're hiding something. I have too many other things to do and think about that are related to my actual life, and I'll bet you all do too.

    1. I think so, too. Something is off with the eye area and forehead? Like the upper part of his head is smaller? After living in an area with so much Zika, you have to wonder.

    4. In one picture (of Samuel alone) all looks fine.
The other family picture, well, possible Downs Syndrome. . . .I know, my fifth child is Downs - and the light of my life

      Delete
    5. People kept saying Israel had Down's syndrome when he didn't. Samuel doesn't appear to have it either. I think their face shape is just a little unusual but similar to Derick's. Some babies have really large cheeks that hang off their faces like mine son did. He is just a baby and can't hold his head up yet.

      Delete
    6. My first son has Down Syndrome and we never saw "Downs" you must not go to support groups or you would know that is the wrong way to describe a person who has Down Syndrome and None of the Duggar kids have Down Syndrome

"Sweet" is a good word to describe them.

  20. But still no update. Joe and Kendra got a people magazine slot for thier bachelors party but Jill derrick izzy and sam didn't? I believe something went horribly wrong during delivery. Sending hugs and prayers to the Dillard family for strength to get through whatever they are going through!!

      Delete
    2. They did say what happened. Jill was in labor for 40 hours and the baby was born by C-section at the hospital. They have now posted a family picture where everyone appears happy and healthy. What else do people want? If they choose to provide any more information it is completely up to them. By continually pressing for more details it almost seems as if people will be disappointed if there's not some terrible news. This crazy speculation needs to stop. If the Dillards want to give more information they will do so when they are ready.

  24. I don't know if TLC will ever see this, but I would like to see them ask each individual that has left the nest how their views/standards will change or remain the same for their own families moving forward. Alot of viewers have questions about dress and eating pork, if they are going to homeschool etc. There were so many q&a sessions with Jim bob and Michelle back in the day. Let's do those with all the newly formed families to get a feel for their personal views. If they see the show as a way to minister, it would be nice to have the chance to hear how each of them as individual families will express their faith and raise their families moving forward!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I really agree. I would love to see the married children asked about their beliefs and standards for their families. I think it is completely normal and relatable to differ slightly from ones parents and there is nothing wrong with that. I would like to see how they formed their views as unique families.

      Delete
    2. We'll probably never get answers to those questions. All we can do is look at the pictures they post and wonder why things don't seem to add up any more.

      Delete
    3. Here! Here! That would be a show worth watching-new material, fresh insight, and could go a long way in clearing up inconsistencies/miscommunication with the public. Counting On needs to think beyond reaching the current fan base if they want to maintain their TLC spot. Sponsors are paying for numbers.

    6. They don't minister any more in their show. Their show is all about who's courting, getting married and kisssing.

    ReplyDelete

    1. We'll find out what happened when it airs on tv, people always complain that we already know everything that happens with the Duggars before the show airs, so now everyone can practice being patient.

      Delete
    2. You don't need to know anything!

      Delete
    3. Maybe because it is personal and none of our business. No matter what they say or do they are criticized. Just say congratulations on your handsome boys and move on.

      Delete
    4. We long time Duggar fans know what is the usual and what is not normal for the Duggar family after a baby is born in the family. It is normal for them to release pictures very soon after and be excited along with us fans. It is not normal for them to be silent and not give any, even brief info on how the birth went.

      Delete
    5. If there is anything wrong, it's there business. They are not entitled to share everything, though I do admit I get annoyed when we don't know when a duggar wedding is until the day of it when they post it on the blog.

      Delete
    6. Or maby if they don't want to say anything they should not putt themelves in the spotlight!

      Delete
    7. Then as a Duggar "fan" you should be respectful enough to leave them alone and allow them to share what they want. They are entitled to privacy.

  29. This photo was only posted because of all the comments. There was no information from the parents to go with it. Why no full photos of Samuel? This is more like a photo post to quite people.

  30. If there is something wrong, time will tell. But, there could be nothing wrong. We shouldn't jump to conclusions.

  32. Blessed! Beautiful family!

  33. They look fine to me. Poor Jill and Derrick. They get picked apart for sharing pictures-accusing them of blanket training and hurting Israel-then not sharing pictures because something is terribly wrong.
Can't we just be happy for them and speak blessings over them and not curses. Enough already. This, to me, is beyond concern. It's knit picking.

  36. after reading some comments here, i felt the need to say something on behalf of all the duggars. just becasue they are a public family, does NOT mean that we are "entitled" to every bit of info we want! if there were/are issues...that is THEIR business. they can share when they feel ready...or NOT. it's funny to me how people think because they are in the public eye, they OWE every bit of their lives business to us. i hope and pray that there were no problems, but if there were, then i hope and pray they are healing and everything will be okay. but this is a strong family and they know where their strength comes from, which is why they are so inspiring. comments here mite hurt their "feelings"...but it will never hurt who they are.

    1. Terriberrie: It is not your place to say anything on behalf of the Duggars, unless you are employed by them or have joined the family. People are concerned about Jill and the baby and what happened. The Dillards have been behaving out of character which has made people even more concerned and curious. We do not require a lecture from someone who only knows as much as the rest of us do. Thank you.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous - Many of us agree with Terriberri. We appreciate what the Duggars choose to share with us, but we don't feel "entitled" to know things that aren't shared.

  39. Samuel is still in the newborn stage, so he wasn't aware that he needed to pose for the camera. Babies change rapidly in the first weeks and months, but right now I think he looks like his Aunt Jessa--a lot. He has typical Duggar features.

  40. They look healthy. What a joy to see!!
Everyone is alive and doing well. That's good news.

    ReplyDelete
  41. For all of you on this blog Who say that we the Duggar fans have no right to know what happened to Jill and Sam during the delivery, you're wrong. The Duggar family built their brand on all of us basically eavesdropping on their lives. They do not have a body of work outside of their family. It is for that reason that when this family doesn't tell us everything upfront we know the truth is lurking in the bushes. Unfortunately because of the way they have built their brand, they honestly don't get to ask for privacy because their brand is all about family not about something outside of their family. Privacy is no longer an option for this family. Maybe if the Duggers had built their brand on real estate and not 19 kids then privacy would be an option. Jill and Derek need to come clean because this is the kind of thing that actually hurts the Duggar brand.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Your opinion. And that is all that it is "an opinion". Well I have an opinion also and mine is there is no argument in the world that would convince me that they need to share their personal issues. Not with fans or anyone!

      Delete
    2. Agree they put themselves out there so fans expect them to be consistent in how they do things after a birth.

      Delete
    3. Ok ... this statement about the Duggars needing to come clean because they built a brand on sharing their lives is a bit much. Derrick and Jill don't have to tell us anything about the birth at all. They choose to decide what to share and what not to share. Frankly, while I respect and admire the Duggars, I said a number of times on this blog, when Josh was experiencing his difficulties, that this family needed to leave TV all together and go heal. It's comments like this, demanding details about their lives, that convinces me that I right. As much as I enjoy knowing what's going on with each family member, I would rather they give it all up and stay out of the limelight and heal.

      Delete
    4. 3:50 PM - We actually have no "right" to anything. If so, who is giving you that right? Sounds like a "right" you have created out of a "want". Their right to privacy trumps our want to know.

  42. Beautiful little family and if anything did happen a Jill did had to get a hysterectomy then she probably isn't saying just yet cause she still need to cope with it a young woman who wanted a big family and it gotten taken away from her can hurt. Yes she can adopt and said she wants to but she hoped to have more bio children it would be hard to cope. As a woman who was told she could never have kids at a young age I cried for weeks about it but thank to God I was able to have a baby but there is always that question on my mind can I have more children. Not the same as Jill situation but I understand what she is going through, and I pray that she is doing well and that God is with her thru this time

  44. For all those "fans" out there wringing their hands over what they are certain was a traumatic birth of some sort, let it go! All the wild scenarios some people are conjuring up are pointless. The Dillard's are grown-ups, after all, and hardly need the feigned dismay and unfettered childbirth analysis from perfect strangers, fans or not.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Perhaps TLC told them they aren't allow to give too much detail away until the show airs. It keeps viewers in suspense. And it is probably the same people complaining that when they watch the show, they already read about that on their blog or in a magazine. So, this is what you get.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, they get criticized for sharing too much, sharing too little. My hope is that it was their decision to have some quiet, private time together getting used to their new addition and recovering from the birth.

    2. I think Derick doesn't want his family on TV any more. Think about it - he took them a few thousand miles away, but the TV cameras still followed. I think he wants to do his own thing now, without the show. All signs point in that direction.

      Delete
    3. 8:45 you are probably right. Derick just shot himself in the foot so to speak with TLC, too. I think he wants off the show. If they filmed me gagging and put it on the air multiple times, I'd want off, too!

  47. I'm sorry but the posters are right. The Duggars have built their brand around having umpteen children and have spoken of their 'private life' numerous times.
