New Season Summary

Have you heard the news? Counting On returns September 11th with a brand-new season! For those who are wondering why the upcoming season is being called season three by TLC, it's because the network has a different way of breaking up the episodes than other websites. (This current run of new episodes is officially season 2C.)

But all that matters is that there are more new episodes coming soon, don't you agree? And there is still one more episode in this "season," set to air next Monday. Scroll down to read the official season summary and watch the promo video.

Counting On jumps right back in where things left off last season. The wedding of Joy-Anna and Austin is rapidly approaching, and it’s all hands on deck to prepare for their special day. The young couple has many unchecked boxes on their to-do list, from picking the venue and the attire for the wedding party, to finding suitable décor and a wedding cake.

While Joy-Anna and the girls take a trip to Kentucky in search of the perfect wedding dress, Austin somehow finds the time to renovate a house that will hopefully become the couple’s dream home (after some serious work). Of course, all the drama and work gets put on-hold for a joint bachelor-bachelorette party, where everyone will reconnect with nature on a camping adventure!

Just as wedding preparations are in full swing, Jessa, Ben, Spurgeon and Henry travel to San Antonio, Texas, to meet up with Jinger and Jeremy. The Vuolos can barely contain their excitement as they prepare to get to know little Henry.

Viewers will see another Duggar courtship blossom between Joe and Kendra, culminating in a huge surprise during Joy-Anna and Austin’s wedding reception that just may have bells ringing again sooner than everyone thinks! With all these huge milestones brewing, the siblings can always count on each other for support.

  1. We've already seen 90% of this online somewhere! (And the other 10% was so boring that nobody covered it.)

    1. I can't wait to see it. I haven't seen 90% of it. It doesn't seem boring to me.

      I can't wait.

    2. Same- plus if it is boring then don't watch it or come here.... Simple

    3. Anon @ 8:43 Agree. I'm in the UK where TLC are a season behind, they just showed Jingers dress shopping. I have already seen so many clips, and reviews of the shows it feels like dejavu. I stopped watching a while ago and caught a couple of minutes the other night, but it was all very familiar, boring TV.

      step 2: change channel

problem solved. Glad i could be of assistance.

    5. I don't care how many times they show it I will watch it every time and they are never boring.since you watch when they are on must not be that boring to you either

    6. 8:43 - I suggest that you don't read the blogs than because they are like spoilers and you won't be so disappointed for when the episodes do come on lol.

    7. 11:44pm... I agree with you; Seems easy, watch tv & keep away from media, so no more same old same..

  2. We just met Joy and Austin at Fort Rock. Very lovely and friendly couple! So happy for the newlyweds! Our family from south Texas loves the Duggar family as well. God bless you all!

  5. I wish they would stop showing the weddings BEFORE the wedding planning episodes. I love wedding planning, but we've already seen everything Joy chose, so I don't really need to watch her make those choices. I'd much rather see what daily life is like...what jobs do all of the boys even have these days? What does Ben do? Who is homeschooling the littles now that all of the bigs have moved out except Jana? That's the stuff that I'm interested in seeing.

    1. You make really good points! I agree, it would be interesting to see a variety of other topics. For such a big family, they seem to run out of material, which is unexpected.

    2. Yes! Me too!

      Delete
    3. They show the episodes out of order so people won't record them on to disk and sell them.

    4. Yes i totally agree on all you said

    5. I love this show, can't wait till September.

    6. Would be better if they kept the wedding as the finale to the season.

    7. If I am not mistaken the reason they do not show the "littles" is because the show is supposed to be about the "Bigs". I too agree. I would like to know about the occupations of everyone. A ball park idea of where they live. I know that Jessa was looking for a bigger house. Jill and Derrick are back where are they going to live.

  6. Wonder if we'll see the latest Jill birth, where something obviously didn't go as planned...

    1. That probably won't be shown until September

      Delete
    2. I am begining to think thats what all the silence is about, people are genuinely concerned for Jill and her baby,so a birth episode will get big viewing figures. If that turns out to be the case I will stop watching you can't treat people like that especially not loyal fans.

  7. Nobody wants to watch the wedding stuff months after it happened. Besides, the actual wedding episode already aired.

    1. PRECISELY! I've been saying that here for months. They will lose fans for the way TLC are planning out the shows. The very short series are doing this, and then "it just so happens" that the wedding etc happens in between the series... TLC have really messed up with how they are planning the show out now.

    2. But this is a blog.

  8. This show is lagging so far behind, I don't even know why they bother! And we've already seen a lot of it. Doesn't TLC keep track of what they've shown and what they haven't? Or do they think we have really short memories?

    1. Ding ding ding! I've been telling them they are losing viewers and lovers of the family because they are doing this for months now.

    2. 11:40 they aren't losing viewers as far as we know since there's nothing on TV or the internet that proves that. And 11:49, this is a blog which keeps up with the Duggars lives. People complain about seeing the same stuff in the episodes as they did online but they choose to go on to the blog and get spoilers.

  11. I'm sorry, but this show is making me dizzy. It is woefully out of sequence. We don't need these 'after shows' but 2 really good quality content episodes which catch up more to real time. This show is old news which makes it very boring and out of date.

    3. Anon 1:50 I agree. I've stopped watching because it is just like re runs of the same stuff. Once I've seen the wedding, I don't care about the dress shopping, the cake shopping; its like reading the ending of a book before the beginning. I wrote TLC and complained about it.

  12. Seems to be a consensus here that the show is old news by the time it airs. Why not just do a 2-hour special every now and then and call it quits with these outdated "seasons"?

    4. No, TLC does not want the show to fail. TLC is a business, after all. The show is actually just a re-cap for die-hard fans.

Since filming for any show is done months before, it is impossible to come up with "new material" unless the Duggars refrain from releasing videos and pictures and constant updates on their lives.

The Duggars are over-exposing themselves. It all comes down to their contract with TLC and People Magazine (also owned by the same company that owns TLC). Obviously, there is no "gag" clause.

      Delete
    5. Maybe TLC does want to show to fail, to open up a time slot for something else in the works? Something else that better fits the racy content they seem to love showing?

    6. I think this anon is the same person that keeps saying the show is boring and complaining about see the same things over and over again when they choose to read the blog before the episode came out....

    7. So, Nunya, are you saying TLC told Josh to do the things he's admitted to doing? Really? I highly doubt that and if they did tell him to do it the fact that he followed their directive doesn't say much for his character.

  16. I'm so sad to see all the negative comments on this post and the last. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I'm glad I didn't have to wait until half a year after the weddings to see them. I do wish we could've seen the prep beforehand, but I'm definitely looking forward to the new full season this fall!

    1. I so agree with you. I'm always excited to watch the Duggars and sad when I see negative comments about the show.

    2. Agreed! I know they show the weddings first now so that we're not waiting months to see the big events, then do a more in depth wedding episode later, which I love. They can't film one day and air the episode the next day. Post production does take time. The episodes are usually about 4 months behind which isn't too bad. :)

    1. It's a TV show and people have a perfect right to voice their opinions, whether they are complaints or praise. If TLC does not pay attention, viewership will continue to fall.

    2. It is logical to air things in order.

  18. Just wish they would show it in order. We haven't seen Joys courtship so it would be better to see the wedding after all that. In my opinion. It seems as if they are really behind and nothing to wait for when the weddings come before we see the other stuff.

    1. They always want to start the seasons with a "bang," as in a wedding. It's nuts. What are they going to do when nobody gets married for awhile or produces another grandchild? It could happen. I sure hope the kids don't feel pressured to do those things just for the show.

      Delete
    2. They show the episodes out of order so that people won't record it on to disk and try to resell them

  19. Really do not like the way TLC does anything concerning the Duggars - not having all of the family on the show and having the ending (wedding) first and then the courtship just does not work. LOVE the Duggars but really do not like TLC and wish the family would move to a different network. To end on a positive note - I am excited to see Joy and Austin's new home and their relationship blossom.

  21. Do Australian people know that @Foxtel just said they aren't even going to be putting on season two now????
I TOLD @TLC and the Duggars they would lose viewers and this is precisely it.... our cable country won't play it due to the lower ratings for the repeats and @Amazon will not let us buy the thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. I do not understand why readers are so critical. Nobody is forcing us to watch the show. I prefer the Duggars anytime over the other poor taste shows. I would very much love to see more of Jim Bob and Michelle, It also would be very nice to see what adjustments the family has made since so many adult children have left home.

  23. Missed seeing Jill & Derick - THEY could have done some remote coverage/close ups as they have done dozens of times. Seemed odd in my opinion.
Does anyone think it could have been because of the so-called feud between Jeremy & Derick????
Hope not. That family's (JB & M) motto "Leave & Cleave" Which leaves anyone to believe Jill would stand by her man in any dispute.
More over I hope Jill & new baby are well.
I really enjoy Jill & Derick - they have great senses of humor.

    2. According to Neilsen ratings among Cable TV shows, Counting On is nowhere near the top 50 shows each week. Sponsors are logically going to put their advertising funding into shows with the most viewers. If a show cannot develop content that appeals to a large scope of viewers, it falls in ratings. Just an aside: TLC took $14 Million writedown for "“the content impairment charge from cancelling TLC’s ’19 Kids and Counting.'”.

    1. It seems the biggest complaints from Duggar fans are too much rehashing and the episodes being behind/out of chronological order (i.e. "old news"). It's a little like living life looking in the rear-view mirror, so to speak. Most fans are already familiar with "14-19 Kinds and Counting" content. Because the episodes are largely recapping and behind, dedicated fans come here and to the internet for more current news. Can you blame them? ;)

      Delete
  31. Will be depending on this blog. Walking away from high cable bills.

The show has become old news and following people magazine seems to be the current approach lately.

I don't think TLC gets it but then their are other show's they film the same way that aren't as public. Their episodes are also old news but seem new since nothing was shared before.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That Kendra is just adorable. I love the sweet look on her face.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why would 'die hard fans' want to see old stuff rehashed yet again? I would think those fans would clamor to see NEW more TIMELY footage of things, I'm tired of being in the Duggar 'past'.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I sure would love to see Grandma's new house! That would be something different to show.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What would Really shoot ratings is Jana in a courtship!

    ReplyDelete
  36. My concern for Counting On is that the After Show focused largely on the couples and couple issues. If that format successfully generates a larger viewing audience, TLC may choose to go with a solely couples format, effectively cutting out Jana, John David, and pretty much all of the younger Duggars. How would that play out, essentially dividing the family? Would Jessa and Jill scrap the show if that's the format offered? Or would the couples be ok with that?

As a Christian, I didn't really appreciate the suggestion of raciness with "Did anyone break your courtship rules?". It was a salacious, leading question, intended to attract viewer interest for all the wrong reasons...and the Duggars knew it would be asked and were o.k. with the suggestiveness. That was disappointing. The resurrected Newlywed Game questions session was disappointing too. Asking spouses publicly what they don't like about their spouse isn't exactly uplifting either (although I loved Jeremy's beautiful response). If they agreed upon answers in advance, that was neither spontaneous, authentic, nor necessarily truthful (they may not have wanted to air their privately held opinions or issues and had to chose something else to say). That kind of "interviewing", done to generate and fuel interest, is very amateurish and immature. It's just one step up from "What kind of a cheese would Jinger be?". This kind of "interviewing" makes these young people look and sound flighty, immature, and shallow-that's not exactly a good witness for the Lord and I sincerely hope they're more than what these interviews and the show is making them out to be to the world.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Thought I was the only one who thought as you do. In fact the last interview shows I did not watch because of the preview of questions that I found to be inappropriate for Christians. I just get a feeling that Jim Bob and Michelle's Godly wisdom is no longer a part of the show - sadly neither are they. The were the anchors of the original show and are so respected and missed on the new show. Only featuring the older girls is getting old. I also do not respect some of the decisions the girls are making. I would have thought that the girls would have refused to do a show that would not allow the entire family to be featured. TLC gave into haters when they pulled the highly rated 19 kids. I would be much more interested in a show with Jim Bob and Michelle and the younger kids - surly another network would pick up a show like this. Who knows in this country these days.

  37. I'm definitely way behind, I've been getting caught up with the duggars during the pandemic. Great way to fill the monotonous days of quarantine! I have to agree with all the comments about the episodes being out of order. Now that I've moved past the episodes on Hulu, I'm now watching what's on TLC. The episodes being so out of order means I'm skipping a lot of them. There's no reason to go back and watch wedding planning after I've watched the wedding. TLC is missing out on a lot of money on ad revenue by having these episodes this way because it sounds like a lot of people are doing the same as me, skipping all the episodes that contain info we've accidentally already moved past because of episode order. Get it together TLC!
