Duggars at Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar City has always been one of the Duggars' favorite places to be. Remember when we posted never-before-seen pictures from almost 20 years ago? They have also taken many other trips over the years. Recently, a group of Duggars made the two hour trek to enjoy the rides and family atmosphere.

  1. Jill and Derick and Israel were there, too. You left out those pictures. So nice to see that the family has gotten over their latest frights in Central America and can enjoy life again.

They can always take a short trip each year to be of some service.
Glad they were able to share the day with family.

I read somewhere that she used to work for ATI in Chicago but didn't transfer to Texas when they upd sticks, maybe she just lives closer now and can visit more often?

If she was involved they would have been in the photos.

  3. What's the connection with Fundamentalism at this park that the Duggars go to so often? They usually don't patronize places that aren't in line with their religion (Chick-Fil-A, Hobby Lobby, etc.).

    1. Absolutely nothing. It's a fun place to take the family. No harm in that.

    2. The connection is they live in the area. So do I.
It's a nice, family friendly park.

    3. I haven't been to the amusement park that they go to but it looks like it's primarily rides. I'm not trying to be funny or rude but why would God not want them to go on rides and have fun with family and friends? I'm not sure what Chick-Fil-A is...a restaunt? I live in Canada and we don't have it. I've been to Hobby Lobby and it seems just fine. Again, my tone in this is not controversial, accusing or rude.....just wondering.

    4. Herschend Family Entertainment owns and operates quite a number of entertainment parks, including Silver Dollar City. They are a faith-based company and Christian "Godly" values are at the core of their business enterprise. It stands to reason that the Duggars would patronize them.

    5. I have been to Silver Dollar City several times. I have always gotten the impression, because it is located in what used to be known as the "Bible Belt""," that it is very wholesome family-oriented fun. But it wasn't particularly religion based. There used to be an outdoor venue very close by that put on the play, "Shepherd of the Hills," which was religious. It's only 2 hours for the Duggers, so it's a fairly short drive for family-friendly fun.

    6. Chick-fil-a is a restaurant which controvorsially took a stance against gay arriage and thus lost a lot of custom. I think the original poster was referring to the fact that the Duggars use this restaurantwhilst other Americans choose not to. Hobby Lobby also have a history because of the religious beliefs of their owners, regarding healthcare. I do think that the Duggars publicize companies which they believe follow their values, but that's their right, just as those who choose not to frequent these shops because they don't agree with their policies. Hope this helps :-)

      Delete
    7. Actually, Chick-Fil-A the restaurant chain did not take a stance against homosexuality, as each individual restaurant is owned by a franchisee. Truett Cathy, the corporation founder, expressed his beliefs as a Christian that homosexuality is a sin and is wrong-not that he hated homosexuals in any way. Interestingly, Chick-Fil-A did not lose "a lot of customers" and has consistently thrived in spite of the false reporting and even though they are closed on Sundays. They are also consistently awarded the #1 position among Fast Food Restaurant rankings in the industry by both sales and customer reviews.

    8. Do you not have anything better to do than to try an analyse the places that the Duggar's like to go to and try to incorporate them some how with their religious beliefs? I am anti gay marriage too but go to the places those places that are anti too. I also go to places that are pro gay marriage.... whoopdy dooo The family can go anywhere they please and if you don't like it, feel free to not come to their page and whine. If you do come, don't hide behind anonymous....

      Delete
    9. May I take a moment to address this "Anonymous" issue? Many people do not have any of the accounts listed in the "Reply as" box, nor will they sign up for those accounts in order to reply. I don't blame them...who needs more accounts, more e-mail addresses registered somewhere, or more passwords to remember?

So the other choices are to add a name, which means nothing (you could add a different one each time you post), or to post as Anonymous. It's just easier to do the latter.

So nobody is "hiding" behind that moniker. If they wanted to hide, they wouldn't say anything at all and only lurk. It's getting tiresome to read accusations of "hiding behind Anonymous." How about simply reading the comment, thinking about it, and then posting your own comment to further the discussion? You can do that without trying to bring another person down simply because they chose not to make an account or add a name that was meaningless or would have soon been forgotten.

    11. Commenting is unique social behaviour. People do feel free to express more varied ideas and attitudes in anonymous comments. If people had there comments connected to themselves in an identifying way then it is likely they would have less to share and it would be less opinionated.
Maybe people want to read others thoughts under the anonymous banner. But are we being sinful that way? The Bible has a lot to say about the tongue and words, I think we may be sinning by writing some of these comments. Is there a strong judgement on that, is it not so innocent? Could it keep us out of heaven? Remember that the Bible says search me and see if there is any wicked way in me and cleanse me!

  5. So glad to see Joshua in family pictures again. Jesus' blood and righteousness are needed by all of us. We have all sinned and come short but thank God for forgiveness and restoration.

    1. Yes, I agree with you about forgiveness, but I don't think that necessarily means blindly trust Josh with young girls again.

      Delete
    2. Agreed with forgiveness and restoration. For those who are Christians believe that we all have in a way of our life but if we ask God to forgive us and mercy. God forgive us and restore us. HE love us so much that he wants to follow Jesus so we can be saved.

    3. I agree about forgiveness, but I can't help but feel sorry for Anna, as I can't shake the feeling that somehow staying wasn't completely her choice, like she felt she had to.
Forgiveness is fundamental to move on, but what he did to ber was so wrong that in my opinion it showed that he had no interest in his family and if this is the case, why forcing them to be together? It doesn't seem fair to either of them or the kids.

      Delete
    4. Forgiveness does not automatically require you to keep someone in your life who has thoroughly betrayed you and broken marriage vows.

      Delete
    5. Forgiveness yes as it heals, restoration is earned by actions and develops in time with a lot of dedication and selfless efforts.

My heart still goes out to Anna and the child she is carrying.

      Delete
    6. at 10:26 - I agree. Forgiveness does not always mean restoration in human relationships. It takes two to restore the brokenness while it only takes one to forgive. I believe that beautiful things do come out of broken lives. However, Josh has a lot of 'proving' to do to before he can be trusted, in my opinion.

    2. Anon @ 1:28. What a horrible post to make. The 'medical observation' might have been 'unsolicited' but all the original poster did was make an innocent post about what can be a fatal condition for mother and baby. Michelle lost a baby due to pre eclampsia. I don't think any harm was meant, please think before you post.

      Delete
    3. What a snarky, uncalled for response, 1:28.

1:00, I agree. There was a picture of her legs somewhere else and her ankles did look swollen. Her face looks swollen, too, and she looks tired. Pre-eclampsia is no laughing matter.

      Delete
    4. Hello there everyone hope you are having a wonderful Sunday evening! Let's just take a positive frame of mind about the prior comment. See it's not being judgmental or a Debbie downer if for example Anna is so busy with the little ones she has and maybe does not notice a potential risk in pregnancy. Some times people who are not close to us see things that we or even midwives might miss. I am hopeful that Anna has a easy and safe delivery! God Bless

      Delete
    5. Anonymous @1:28 PM- What a rude comment! That's definitely insulting, not to mention unnecessary. The first poster was merely expressing concern for Anna and did not deserve the snark.

      Delete
    6. Why are you so mean all the time, 1:28? You're literally always saying something negative.

      Delete
    7. Anon @ 1:28 - before you post your next comment, maybe you should read over it to make sure it doesn't come across as judgmental. You made the assumption that this person was a "troll" before even thinking about it. How do you know she wasn't seriously concerned. If she had dangerous pre eclampsia and she knows the sign is puffiness, than she could be legitimately concerned for Anna and stating this as a personal warning - since she experienced it herself. So let's not jump to convolutions, but rather try to put ourselves in another persons shoes before we judge. God bless!

    3. My "war room" is my prayer space. It's called my war room based on the Christian movie "War Room". Basically you just find a space where you get be alone with God to pray undisturbed.

      Delete
    4. War Room was a Christian movie where a closet in the house was used as a prayer closet for conducting spiritual warfare. (In Matthew 6:6, Jesus told his followers to go into a closet to pray, and the Father who sees in secret will reward us openly. See also Eph. 6:10-18.)

My war room is my prayer closet, well actually a little corner in our walk-in closet. War Room is a Christian movie that is basically about the power of prayer.

I decided after a series of just weird stuff happening with my family, I needed to have a quiet place to be alone with God and "go to war" in prayer for my family and friends.
      It's based on Ephesians 6:12

    1. Last time I checked my home school calendar, it said school's out. Homeschool families make their own school schedules and we make sure we follow the state laws regarding the number of school days in our schedules. Some homeschool families can count family trips as field trips.

    2. It's summer break for most schools now for one thing.

    4. Um, its summer??

      Delete
    5. You are just trying to nitpick. Most often, trips like these are a learning experience; plus, good fun family time and you can't beat that. So what if they take a couple days off. Public Schools aren't in session on weekends, they break for months in the summer, take holidays off, and have day long field trips. I am a public school teacher but I can see that homeschooling offers more educational opportunity time. Think before you blog judgements.

    7. Are your kids in school during the summer?

      Delete
    8. We have year-round schools here, don't you? There are 4 short breaks during the year instead of one long one. The kids retain more by not being out of the classroom for so long.

You can't count everything as a field trip. Parents have gotten in trouble for trying to turn things like a trip to Disneyland during school into an "educational" experience.

    11. The original Anonymous poster had a valid question. Many people don't know any or many homeschool families, so they naturally have questions. There's no need to jump to offense. As we say in our house-Educate, educate, educate. We've fielded a number of questions over the years-some curious, some hostile. Most are curious because we're not the stereotypical homeschoolers (i.e. the Duggars- in skirts to our knees, with lots of children, and a 10-seater van). LOL Learning isn't limited to a classroom and can occur anywhere, anytime. Because we're not locked into a M-F 8-3 schedule, we have more flexibility. We're also not spending time going from class to class, waiting while the class settles down from switching classes, or handling various discipline issues in one class period. I suspect that this trip might have even been a "School's Out-Well Done" celebration trip for the children. Many of us do that.

  38. RE: Anna's 'puffiness'...I had pre-eclampsia and it's no joke. I'm sure the poster was concerned as this family doesn't seek the best maternity care for themselves that's available in this day and age. I hope Anna has had herself thoroughly checked out this time and does monitor her own blood pressure durint this time and for a bit after as my pressure initially returned to normal, but one week later, was sky high and I was in the ED. Aren't Christians on this website supposed to give others the benefit of the doubt? Some of us out here, who may not agree with the Duggar lifestyle and decisions they make don't wish them any harm and hope that they are safe and well...especially their children who have no say about things.

    1. That's the way I took that post. I know pre-eclampsia can come on fast and seemingly out of nowhere, even with the best of care. What we've seen of the Duggar prenatal care would give reason to wonder how closely she's being monitored, of if she's checking things herself all the time. She looks different this pregnancy, I will agree.
