Jinger's Curly Hair Regimen

While visiting the Duggars a few years ago, I (Ellie) asked the girls to show me how they create those large, beautiful curls. Jessa Duggar curled my hair, and then I filmed a tutorial while she curled Jill Duggar's hair. (Click here to watch.)

Jinger Duggar (soon to be Jinger Vuolo), has naturally curly hair. She recently filmed a hair straightening tutorial with TLC (embedded below). For those who have hair like Jinger's, do you have any tips to add?

  1. Her hair seems very ruined, though. Frail, broken. Heat isn't good on such long hair!
A good trim would help letting it grow back stronger.

  2. Her explanation was unclear. Hard to understand what she means.

    1. This was just filmed for the show. It doesn't need to be a course in hair care. It just needs to show Jinger doing something that she can do.

  4. I have extremely curly (or so I think,my friend has it much curlier than me!!!) one thing to have in mind (well for me) is to put mousse right away while it's wet and then I let it air dry. Hope I helped y'all.

  5. No one wants a frizz head, but doesn't all the heat straightening damage the hair? Are there any other ways to manage that type of hair?

    1. I've been fighting frizz for years, and products with argan oil help tame my frizz better than anything I've used.

    2. She needs to get a Brazilian Blow-out. The cost ranges between $200 - $500 but it will smooth and shine curly hair for 3 months without damaging it. The cost is worth the results and I am certain she can afford it.

  6. Any idea what products she uses? She mentions her 3 step process, but then fails to share what she actually uses. Would love to know! Not all hair care brands are created equal in my opinion. So I always love hearing what works for naturally curly haired women.

    1. The heat protector spray she uses is Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray (I use the same one so I recognize the bottle). I'm not sure what other products she uses, sorry.

  10. It is disheartening to see how, with all the Biblical warnings about vanity, the Duggar women are so obsessed with the appearance of their hair. What is the explanation? Are they following the wishes of a worldly leader? Because they don't seem to be following the Biblical teachings they say they adhere to, and the modesty standards they have imposed on themselves for their clothing. All bets seem to be off when it comes to hair and make-up. It only confuses viewers, and raises legitimate questions about the true values displayed by the family.

    1. You've got to be kidding me.

    2. There is a bible voice that states that the glory of a woman is her hair. Maybe that is why they are obsessed with their hair? Idk just a guess.

    3. They are reality television starlets, give them a break. They have to look cute for TV and magazine articles! It's their job.

    4. I wonder what would happen if one of the Duggar girls cut her hair real short, or shaved the side of her head, or did something else radical? Would it cause a family uproar? Can these girls be individuals, or do they all aspire to look alike and marry alike?

    5. Although I grew up in the States, I live in Europe where makeup on Christians is really almost not acceptable, especially heavy makeup. But I have come to realize it's almost a cultural issue or an issue of how you grew up. A lot of American Christians believe makeup is fine, making them look more professional and even giving them a better testimony than someone who always looks pale and tired. But in Europe it's different, and also with other Christian Americans. I think we have to accept that there will be small differences among Christians, and that's ok! It's interesting to think about, but little things like this are not worth fighting about. God made girls beautiful and it's okay to show beauty (Prov. 31) as long as it's modest, which is something that is actually directly addressed in the Bible.

    6. The long wavy hair look started with the personal preferences of someone they knew, didn't it? First they were all perming to get that look and then using the curling iron, and now they're straightening. That takes up a lot of time.

    7. Yes, it can cause confusion. Just like how they wear skin-tight clothing only while pregnant.

  11. I have naturally curly hair and I also use the 3 step process. I use "Herbal Essence Long term relationship" Products. Also just recently discovered the "Wet Brush" works wonders! Hope that helps someone out there!

  12. Jinger, Have you ever used a pick to comb your hair with? That is what I have used for years! I never use a brush either,it would be awful. I also use mousse. I cannot imagine never combing/picking my hair. That is the first thing I do after showering. It feels so much better. I hope this helps! Give it a try if you wish, it feels nice and it will not be like using a brush!

    1. What's wrong with a brush?

    2. Most brushes can really ruin curly hair. A good brush for curly hair is Denman or Denman type brush available at Sally beauty supply. They have special bristles that will detangle hair. I love my Denman brush and I won't use an ordinary brush again.

    1. Probably because she may not have permission from the companies to mention them by name. Some are picky that way.

  14. Will Ginger feel comfortable in a family where women are wearing pants? She should think about it.

  15. Did Jinger name her hair, too, like her sister?

  16. It's taken a while for me to find the right way to deal with my curly hair, and I'm still learning new "tricks." One thing I swear by is not using shampoo every time I wash my hair. Except for maybe once a week, I only use conditioner. Shampoo really dries my hair out and makes it frizzier. Also, I don't comb or brush my hair, except with my fingers, as that also creates frizz. I use mousse and argan oil as well.
