Recap: "Jinger Flips

Jill & Jessa: Counting On "Jinger Flips"
  • Jessa heads out on an outing at Mama Carmen’s coffee shop (which funds an orphanage in Central America that is run by Mama Carmen) with Anna and Jana, while Ben bonds with Spurgeon. “Yes, I am just a little bit nervous about that,” admits Jessa.
  • The new dad mistakenly calls it “babysitting,” but Jessa corrects him. “I’ve been informed that wives don’t like it being called babysitting,” says Ben.
  • “My husband was not available to babysit today, so I thought I would just bring Meredith along,” jokes Anna when she and Jana arrive at the Seewald home to pick up Jessa.
  • When Jessa returns, she is thrilled to find Spurgeon asleep in Ben’s arms.
  • Meanwhile, John-David, Joseph, Jed, and Jer take Jinger on her first auto auction business excursion. She has visited the auction many times before, but this is the first time that she plans to purchase a car of her own. The boys show Jinger the ropes of buying used vehicles.
  • Did you know that Jinger is the only lefty in the Duggar clan? John-David says she is also the most passionate about serving in prisons and juvenile detention centers. And according to Jessa, she enjoys the fast pace of big cities.
  • When it comes time to bid, Jinger raises her hand at John-David’s cue. She scores a Honda Pilot at $3400 and starts the flipping process immediately.
  • Joy helps Jinger with detailing and deep cleaning, while Justin and an adult family-friend do the mechanic work. She only ends up having to spend $100.
  • Jim Bob has purchased a lot on a main highway for the family to park the cars that they wish to sell. Jinger takes her car over there and sells it for a profit of $500. She hopes to flip more cars in the future.
  • Jinger says that she and her siblings are encouraged by their parents to gain as many life skills as they can.
  • When asked if she is interested in anyone, Jinger’s response is: “I’d rather not answer that question.”
  • Twins Jana and John-David say they have a special bond. Jana says she would trust her brother to find her a husband. She also hints that John-David could have a relationship on the horizon.
  • Meanwhile in Central America, Jill and Derick are adjusting to life on the mission field with the teething and mobile Israel.
  • Long-time fans of the show know that the Duggars are huge pickle fans. Jill and Derick give Israel his first pickle, and he enjoys it, although his facial expressions show that he is surprised by the strong taste.
  • Jana, who is trying to come up with ways to convince the kids to spend more time outside, considers building a playhouse. John-David and Joseph suggest a Duggar-sized treehouse.
  • “Maybe you can draw it up and show me kind of what you’re thinking, because I’m not quite gathering it,” shares Jana. The boys come up with an impressive sketch, complete with a bridge and a wrap-around porch. It’s time to get to work!

  1. I really enjoyed it! But I got rather annoyed that the preview for the next episode kept reminding me that I won't be able to watch the "Joy-Anna" episode until next week. Oh well. #AllGreatThingsComeToThoseWhoWait
Thank you Lily and Ellie for keeping us all up to date.
Cheers all the way from Minnesota!

  2. They let Israel cling to and put his mouth on an upright, moving, plugged-in fan, and they put Spurgeon down to sleep on a nursing pillow on the sofa, not in his crib. I don't know what upsets me more - the fact that they do unsafe things with their babies, or the fact that they don't realize what's wrong and think it's OK to show it on TV. Don't they know what that looks like?

Can you please tell your friends to be more careful?! Or tell them to tell TLC to stop scaring us by showing these scenes.

    1. The Duggars are great. You dont have to watch
      They are great parents

    2. Good grief. Those are not unsafe. Seriously. Parents bubble wrap their kids too much.

    3. Spurgeon is a newborn, therefore can't move from side to side yet, so sleeping on sofa is safe right now. And it's not like Israel was chewing on the electrical cord!

      Delete
    4. Newborns can wiggle & squirm. Besides, sleeping on any soft surface, especially a sofa that's up off the ground, is NOT recommended! They have a crib, so why don't they use it?

      Delete
    5. Jessa mentioned he needed to study, so he probably did that in the living room while the baby slept on the sofa.

  4. Jinger had no clue about what she was doing. Jana had no clue about what she was doing. Jessa left Ben in charge. Why didn't they just make this episode be about the adult boys? They took over in all three cases, making the car deal, getting the tree house started, and staying home with the baby. Then Joy did more work than Jinger, Jana, and Jessa put together!

    1. Why are you so critical? People learn by doing and trying.

    2. I do agree there! While it was Jana's idea to make a tree house/club house, the boys took over, and she basically just added ideas or suggestions, but she didn't install any posts, etc. And for the light fixtures in the Sewald home, she didn't do any ceiling cutting, etc.

      Delete
    3. I agree, too!! The boys basically sold the car for Jinger and Joy cleaned it. Jana had the conception but the brothers did all the work.

  5. Jana and John's special bond is cute, but thankfully we don't live in a world where women need the men in their families to find them husbands anymore!;)

  6. Learning life skills is commendable. However, if you are expected to wait until you are married to leave your parent's home, you are missing out on the most important life skill of all...becoming an independent adult. Marriage and family can be a wonderful experience. However, no young woman should be programmed to believe they must rely on a man forever. Stuff happens...death, divorce, job loss, illness, injury...and the average person doesn't have reality show earnings to fall back on. A TV show that attempts to normalize oppression and religious indoctrination does a great disservice to gullible viewers.

    1. Uh. Hello. Each of these young women have lots of salable skills that would outstrip most men. Even Micele, worked when needed. The way they work as a team is the entire point. Any of these girls could support a family on their own. They are blessed they have the family they do and will never have to feel that lonliness. Even with all the scandal and controversy, I have never failed to take away a lesson in gratitude, humility, kindness.

And what would be your definition of religious indoctrination? Are we not being indoctrinated via the main newspapers, books, magazines and schools on a day to day basis? or do you assume that everything you read is the absolute truth? that the owners of these outlets do not pick and choose what appears in these media. I know people who are connected to these outlets and this is what I have come to learn and one only needs to do a study of history such as the Stalins soviet, Nazi Germany and apartheid South Africa to see how media was strongly used to convince the populace to believe that the governments agenda was the 'right one' and we all know how that turned out.

And what is oppression? following their parents advice, getting married at a young age and having lots of babies? women have been doing that all the time for years and it was not called oppression nor were they unable to cope when they lost a husband to sickness, divorce, job loss and all the other things you mentioned above. If that had been the case, would we have all existed?

As everyone has seen from watching the show, the girls somehow or another have skills that they can use to earn an income or a living. They are not just sitting at home babysitting their minor siblings and doing nothing. One thing I have noticed is that those who were raised in families that practiced the duggars lifestyle and chose not the route for themselves as adults and took a secular root have all managed to find jobs and live as adults and they did not have the so called privillage of attending ordinary school, then college, doing the apartment thing and dating around till they found 'the one'.

Although I do not follow their lifestyle or probably believe in everything that they do, I would say that society has not got the right idea as to how young women should live their lives and this is pretty evident. They seem to dwell on a fantasy we can live life without God and everything will be okay. I say if the girls choose to stay at home then let them stay at home.

In terms of gullible viewers, TLC are no more doing a great disservice with this TV shows than all those other TV shows out there that promote the kardashian lifestyle as I call it knowing that majority of its viewers will end up seriously harming themselves if they were to follow it From Sal.

    3. Anna knows this more than anybody now. She has 4 children and can probably get a job as a seamstress. I'm not sure that that would bring in a good income.I wish she was able to get a great paying job, and have the option to be a single mom if she wanted to.

  7. Enjoyed the show very much. Wish people would move on. The rest of the family shouldn't be punish for josh mistakes.

  8. Where did Joy go for "car detailing class," or wherever it was she went to learn how to clean up a car? I thought the Duggars weren't allowed to attend classes outside the home, especially a girl on her own? I looked up car detailing classes and couldn't find one in NW Arkansas, other than what's offered at a vo tech high school. The commercial classes I found are run by companies in large cities (like Los Angeles), and are 99% attended by men. So I'm confused about how Joy could get this training. Can you explain, because TLC and the Duggars did not.

    1. Seriously?

For starters, they probably went to someone in the biz who showed them what to do

      Delete
    2. They said she went to a class. More embellishment?

  9. I can't believe Anna made a joke about her husband not being around. Joking is something you do when you're at ease about a situation and feel you can make fun of it. Quite different than the crying Anna we saw on TV earlier!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Honestly I think that comment shows that Anna has forgiven but has not forgotten. I am sure she is being pressured to handle the situation in a proper manner but you can't expect her to act properly given the situation. I say good for Anna!

      Delete
    2. I noticed that too. Sounds like she must be feeling more confident about the state of her marriage. Her tone was rather lighthearted.

      Delete
    3. Joking is also used as a way to get through painful situations.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, I found that awkward also.

      Delete
    5. I really believe she's in denial. She keeps saying she's walking though it but I'm really starting to believe she's ignoring the severity of it. Now she's making jokes trying to make light of the situation. It's almost like what he did hurts her so much she can't hardly face it and believe that this really happened to her.

      Delete
    6. When she made the joke, her baby was several months old, which means it has already been several months since she found out Josh cheated on her multiple times. I think she was just giddy about going out with the girls.

    7. It was a tacky remark.

  10. I wonder who that first vehicle buyer was and why that deal fell through? Was TLC involved in this, either finding a man to be on camera to negotiate, or finding someone (who wasn't explained) later to actually buy the vehicle? That whole segment left a lot of unanswered questions.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That Pilot sure was filthy inside. Didn't they look inside before they bought it? And the fact that the door didn't close right made me wonder if this vehicle, too, had been in an accident. Can't you look up the VIN number and find that out at a car facts site, before you buy? That would be more reliable than guessing about why the car had pin stripes.

    1. She didn't say she's solely depending on him to find her a husband. She just said she asks him for advice or what he thought about some guy. Siblings do that all the time.

    2. Anonymous At 9.29am Of course. That is why the divorce rate is so high- Christian people included.

Putting that aside, the answer is within what Jana said. Her brother has a lot of wisdom and he is also a guy. He would be able to sift out the wheat from amongst the chaff. Nothing wrong with that.

  15. That whole treehouse thing was set up so that John David and the boys could play with their big motorized Tonka toys! And then they showed them doing that without wearing hard hats or ear protection, with some of the other kids running around in the gully while the equipment was there. Not safe!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Why was that younger brother allowed to be standing under the car when it was being worked on? What sort of shop allows children to either work on cars or be under them when they are being worked on?

  17. To be honest, I don't see how that episode was about Jinger flipping a car...more like all her siblings flip the car for her! For all that we heard about her being interested in that type of thing/having those skills, she didn't seem to have a chance to have a lot of involvement. Almost seems like a plotline TLC came up with. I'd much rather watch her talk about and demonstrate her photography skills since that's something she's interested in and good at.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Then people would complain about that too since we already know she likes photography and have shown that several times already

  18. I haven't been able to watch Jill and Jessa Counting On but is Anna still living in the Duggar home?

  19. I really think TLC should change the name to Duggars kids Counting On. Not to be rude but if it wasn't for the other children, I wouldn't even watch Jill and Jessa Counting On. I love Jana, John David, Jinger, and Joseph. Joy is entertaining too. But Noway would Jill and Jessa hold a show on their own.

  20. I'm surprised TLC would show Ben putting Spurgeon to sleep on a sofa and especially that they would film Izzy chewing on a fan! Get that boy a vibrating teething ring or something! I know Ben is probably still learning how to take care of his son, but stopping Izzy from putting his mouth on an operating electrical appliance seems like a huge no brainer. Considering the response the Duggars have gotten to some other safety mistakes in the past, I wish they'd learn from them...and I'm pretty confused why TLC would film it

    1. TLC is now enjoying making them laughing stocks. Why else are they showing these unsafe things, talking about pooping babies, showing gross things pulled out of cars, and so on. The show has fallen to a new low thanks to TLC.

  23. Wow. Just finished the episode and all I can say is it was insulting! It was supposed to be all about women tackling jobs/projects typically associated with men. Instead, it showed women attempting such things, only to be not-so-good at it, and allowing men to take over. Wow. Just wow.

  24. Did anybody else notice that Anna told Jessa to check Ben's cell phone and social media to make sure he was doing the right thing? Anna doesn't trust him because of what Josh did behind her back. She made an awkward joke about her husband not being around to watch her baby. It was uncomfortable.

  25. What a bunch of negative comments I am reading, nobody is forcing all of you to view the show. Find something better to do than complain. Go back and read all the above comments they sound awful I just had to bring that up. This family is an inspiration that's what they try to be and that's what they are to me and millions of others if they are not an inspiration to you then find inspiration in something else go to the Lord and seek guidance. Criticism is not something we are able to give.

  26. I think the previous posters have covered all my concerns - especially watching the baby licking the fan stand with an electrical cord within hands reach! Then placing an infant on a pillow to nap? Really disappointed with the current pattern of the episodes. Like the family but not the current show.

  27. Has anyone else noticed that Jessa, Jinger, Anna, and Joy repeat the word "yeah" frequently? It's getting kind of annoying. But I love the Duggar family!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have just read through these comments and....really?? All of it is a bunch of complaining that the Duggar's aren't doing things "your way". Why do you feel the need to watch this show and criticize every aspect of their lives, nitpick every little thing you think is wrong in your eyes? Pretty sure most of you were put to sleep on a couch once or twice as a baby and you survived. There are worse things going on in the world than these things. Sure hope nobody ever looks at my life and judges every thing...oh wait. God will. So very glad I am saved by grace. Are you? needgod.com

    1. I don't think people are nitpicking. This show raises more questions than it answers. Bet lots of people are wondering the same things. At least the old show would take the time to have someone explain on camera why something was done or why it was the way it was. This show is like, wait - what did they just do? What did they just say?

  29. can't wait to see this nice to hear the boys are getting involved more with the show.
