Recap: "Music with the Duggars" and "The Duggar Twist"

On tonight's new episodes of 19 Kids and Counting...

"Music with the Duggars"
  • The show opens with the Duggars' nightly Bible time. Everyone is gathered in the master bedroom for fellowship, study, and prayer.
  • The following day, the family pitches in to prepare for their trip to Missouri. "We are so grateful for Jessa's gift of organization," says Michelle. "She gets us packed, organized, and usually everything is there." Six-year-old Johannah is Jessa's helper.
  • Meanwhile, Grandma Duggar and Deanna, Jim Bob's sister, help Amy pick out a professional outfit for her upcoming performance. "Lately I've had some really, really amazing opportunities," explains the vivacious Duggar cousin. Her mother helps with the music, and Grandma handles the business aspect of Amy's budding career.
  • After performing and speaking at Fresh Grounded Faith in Springfield, Missouri, Jim Bob and Michelle and the children stop off in Branson to hear Amy sing "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" (click here to listen) at Little Opry Theatre.
  • "Amy is a very beautiful young lady," says Uncle Jim Bob. "I think she's really going to go places."
"The Duggar Twist"
  • Jim Bob and Michelle retreat to their bedroom for a radio interview with Big Dan, a legendary DJ from their childhood who is still on the air today.
  • Michelle makes a surprise phone call to Genessa, a thirteen-year-old cancer patient and devoted fan of the show, and invites her to come meet the family. (On February 10th, Genessa lost her battle to the disease. We know that the Mikolajski family would appreciate your thoughts and prayers.)
  • At Auntie Anne's Pretzels, the Duggars learn the art of pretzel-rolling. That same afternoon, the family partners with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to raise money for childhood cancer. Of course, it wouldn't be a Duggar fundraiser without a little friendly competition. At an outdoor mall in Rogers, they split into teams and set up five lemonade stands, each trying to convince passersby that theirs has the best lemonade. Providing refreshments to over five hundred customers, the Duggars collect $1,000. Click here to learn more about Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

  1. What an amazing voice! Ive heard some sing that song and they struggle to reach the notes. You can hear the strain in their voice. Didn't hear that with Amy's singing at all.

  2. First of all we love your show we watch it regularly, you guys are awesome. We saw on the show where you guys sell lemonade that the kiddos are riding around in a red cart thing with a pillow. We loved the idea and our children will love it where can we get them?

  3. Amy has a great singing voice and the shows were both very good! I was sad to see the ending! I am glad she got to meet the family!

  4. Ha, ha, hee, hee, hoo, hoo. "We need a Christian extremist in the White House to make friends with the Muslim extremists. I'll be 18 in 11 years and I don't have to go to bed yet, so I can talk for a while yet." Must be a Duggar (no bedtime!).

  5. I can't believe the Duggars would not drive to see a dying girl, yet if Genessa wanted to see the Duggars, she had to go to them. Yet its ok to get in their bus and ride around the country for a presidential candidate for months. Pretty selfish of the Duggars.

  6. $6 lemonade, 500 customers, $1000 made. The math isn't working out right on that one for sure! lol

  7. @Patti, they invited her specifically because they were doing a cancer fundraiser and she had cancer. NOT selfish. Take the plank out of your eye.

@Ginger, I think Johannah was the only one that charged that much lol!

I don't think they were in the master bedroom... I think they were in the boys' like always. I found it odd that Jim Bob said to go directly to bed, but yet has said that they talk with the kids til late.

Here is the link to Genessa's obituary. She died on the 17th.

I see where you got confused. Genessa passed away on February 10th (I read the article carefully). Her memorial service was on February 17th.

  12. Hi Lily and Ellie!
Do you know the name of the song the Duggar kids sang at Fresh Ground Faith in the first episode yesterday?

  13. @ Patti.
I think Genessa would of gotten a big kick out of seeing the Duggars at her own house, But an even bigger kick out of actually being at the Duggars house where they film the show she loved to watch. Not many people from the general public would get an invite to their house these days. So like Annonymous feb 29 @9:22 am said, take the plank out of your own eye and get a life.

  16. I think they went to be early was because they had to get up pretty early! I think they did Bible time in Michelle and Jim Bob's bedroom! Anyway I am sad Genessa passed away but at least she is with Jesus in Heaven and is no longer in pain or is sick! God has a reason for everything!

  17. @Patti, Anonymous...Some people are probably not understanding why The Duggars didn't drive to see Genessa since it would be much easier for them (physically/healthwise, financially) to go to her rather than her come to them, also it's usually customary for celebrities to be the ones to make the visit when offering a meet and greet for such a situation.
The show was centered around cancer awareness/charitable volunteering, and watching the show after it's been filmed, pieced together and edited doesn't always give an accurate timeline or show all the details. At any rate, since this part of the "storyline" seemed so personal, IMO I agree it would have made more of an impact for The Duggars to volunteer to make the journey-yes, they're still parents, taking care of kids and their own everyday life, but NOW they're on TV, in a whole different arena and will be expected by some to step up to the plate, as it comes with the territory (The Duggars are not just a one-hour special anymore) Good intentions will most certainly be criticized if in any way it looks like they're skimping, or not doing all they're capable of. Sound like it's asking too much?...welcome to celebrity.

  18. Not saying it's right, or that I agree-unfortunately it's just the way the game is played.

  19. I can understand why they invited her to go to the lemonade stand. The lemonade stand was something fun for her to do, something to get her out of a regular routine of either just being in the hospital or in her house.

    Hi Bayley,

  21. Duggars,
I am a Christian homeschooling mom of 9. I have never seen your show (no tv), followed you on facebook (don't get on much), read your books (no time), or heard you speak, but I thank God for the anointing on your life, and the ministry God has given you. Someone once asked me when I was going to get a tv show, since we have several kids, but I told them I am not anointed for tv, just for leading my own family. I couldn't handle tv cameras in my house! I am praying for you, and I thank God for you everytime I hear about you. Love in Christ

  25. I LOVE the Duggars, and I never miss an episode. If I am not going to be home, I always DVR it.

Tuesday night, one of the smaller kids (Jordyn maybe??) was riding around inside and outside on a red cart that she was maneuvering with her feet. I would LOVE to have one of those for my daughter, but I have no clue what it is or how to even describe it. Can ANYONE on here help?

  26. God Bless You Gennesa I am sorry to hear of your passing. You are back in the hands of Jesus out of pain.

  27. Hi everyone, my name is Heather and I'm Genessa's Aunt. Nessa got the chance to meet Michelle while at the Little Rock Hospital having treatment. My mom, her caregiver, was with Nessa in the cafeteria when Nessa came over all shy... "Look Grandma loooook!! its Michelle!!!" Nessa was a huge fan of the show. Well Grandma made point of sitting nearby and then to introduce herself and Nessa..

At that time TLC was already talking to Nessa's Social worker about doing the program as the money raised was going to help transportation for children with Cancer at Little Rock Hospital. It was all arranged very very quickly and just fell into place within 12 hours and was set.

The day of the filming came and as you saw the weather wasn't ideal but Genessa wanted to be a part. she spent most of the day in there big RV... with the little ones... read them stories...she liked that....and the Duggers took them all to dinner afterwards... and TLC paid for a hotel for that evening...

My mom said, "they (you guys here online) should know that TLC, the Duggar's and the people at Auntie Anne's Pretzels where all very kind and thoughtful.."

  28. I was so saddened to see the Duggars lemonade stand sign that stated "Are's is the best!" rather than the correct "Ours is the best!" It is so alarming that the Bill Gothard/ATI cult to which they belong is so terrified of education. Jim Bob and Michelle have contributed 19 undereducated children to the world. How does that glorify Our Lord?

    1. I am sure the little ones wrote the sign and they kept the sign because it was original/ real and regardless it was their effort. Kids when learning mispell words so for goodness sake, give the kids a break and there is no need to being the lord in this.
