Recap: "Something New" and "Couples' Weekend"

19 Kids and Counting "Something New"
  • The Duggar children are accomplished musicians, but Jim Bob and Michelle admit they are not as musical. To kick off the show, Joy-Anna gives Michelle a violin lesson.
  • The kids hold a secret meeting to plan a dinner theater for Mom and Dad. Jana heads the operation and delegates tasks to her siblings.
  • "We still have some things to figure out...but with a few weeks left, hopefully we will be able to pull off something great," says Jana.
  • Jessa and Jinger head down to Hot Springs, Arkansas, for a cooking lesson with Ben Seewald's sisters, Jessica and Danielle. The girls prepare one of Ben's favorite meals, Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and apple pie with ice cream.
  • Should Ben expect Jessa to prepare a home cooked meal every night? According to Michelle, "expectations ruin relationships."
  • "There may be some TV dinners," says Jim Bob.
  • While cooking, Jessa learns that Ben is "very methodical and systematic" and that he snores. Jessica and Danielle ask Jessa if they should be expecting any "exciting news." Jessa's response? "Ask Ben!"
  • When Ben comes home and tries the meal, he approves.
  • Meanwhile, Jana and Joseph spend time with Josh and Anna in Washington D.C. The crew heads to the mountains to go downhill skiing.
  • Josh and Joseph hit the slopes, while Anna takes Mackynzie and Michael for a ski lesson. Anna forgets to put on her snow gear, so she ends up skiing in a skirt for a couple hours before changing. Later, Josh and Anna head out on a ski date.
19 Kids and Counting "Couples' Weekend"
  • Jana, Jill, and Jessa attend a birth. Jill acts as the primary midwife under supervision, Jana assists, and Jessa snaps pictures for the couple.
  • Jim Bob and Michelle visit a specialist to evaluate Michelle health and her ability to have more children. Michelle says she is content not having any more children, but if it is God's will to bless her with another child, she wants to know how her body will react.
  • Michelle takes a blood test to determine if her body is going through menopause. Find out the results in next week's episode.
  • Ben and Jessa fly out to Washington D.C., and Jinger goes along as their chaperone.
  • Josh takes Ben to the gym to work out and drills him with questions. "Yah, I'm not going to go easy on him," admits Josh.
  • Later, the crew takes a trolley ride to show Ben the city. "The trip was so much fun," says Jessa. "We really had a great time together."

  1. Why are people who care so much about respect and manners so childish and disrespectful to the potential in laws and wedding couple's vehicle? Where is the spirit of service and kindness we see in every other aspect of their lives. Were the girls and Mrs. Duggar difficult to Anna as some sort of test? No.

I would like an unmarried Duggar daughter to work and study without having to bring a sibling or two along for the experience.

  2. There were no real Duggar bloggers on these two episodes except Jim Bob told a huge whopper lie when he said, "Michelle and I have never done anything to prevent blessings from God," and Josh said he is "trying to stay in shape and work out as much as he can," then it was revealed he has not worked out one time in the nine months he had been in DC when the show aired. We are all human and we all tell lies sometime or another. We just don't do it in front of America to get fact-checked.

  3. It would be great if snide remarks were left off of this page. If you don't enjoy the Duggar family find something else. All you do is watch them to catch them up in some sort of false hood. They are human they make mistakes. They say all the time they purpose to have a higher standard when it comes to relationships. It would be easier to have your own sister with you than someone you hardly know.

  4. Ben and Jessa are so cute getting to know one another. You can tell they really want to hug or touch, but can't. That has to be hard. There is no hurry for them, it is great she is getting to know his family as well. Best of luck to all the Duggars. I didn't court, but I also didnt hold hands with my husband until we were engaged, and we didnt need a chaperone to stay accountable, but to each his own and I do not in anyway have anything negative to say, I think the courtship is a great idea. I feel bad for the chaperones sometimes, but I understand where they are coming from. Looking forward to seeing Jill's wedding and watching her start her life, she is so in love, it is really adorable.

    1. Wow I think this is a very noble action I think that is hugely unrealistic I think it's very naive but I think it's because of the world this particular family and culture of this family exist and that they want to create this bubble and it has nothing to do with the real relationships off but real couples go through and I think that it's just their fantasy world air bubble Aaron still a little way of trying to create a sweet I'll come over I find it all that I know I am but this is the world and they live in it it's not for everyone even Christian couples who are dating in horror trying to stay chase and virtuous in their dealings with one another have a very difficult time overcoming just human chemistry and I think these poor kids are fighting it and deal with it the best way that they can I just find some of it naive and a little sickening but it is a world they live in.

  7. What's up with this family and paper plates/plastic forks? Last night Anna served dinner to only THREE guests and they used those wasteful paper plates, sat on the couch and ate. What's wrong with sitting at a dining room table, which they obviously have and eat like human beings?

  8. Thank you, ladies, for having this blog and most importantly for posting all views, and not making this a "Duggar Worship Site" only. You have received some very concerning posts, some which have not been posted.. they all should be posted, except when profanity is used, which I hope there aren't any of those.

  9. I took it that Josh was being sarcastic when he said he worked out every morning. Note Anna laughing right away. I think he then admitted it as well. I like Josh but I have to say, why is he so into competing? I love Josh and Anna since they moved to D.C.!! It was just what they needed. Their children are adorable and so are they.

  10. Thank you to all the people on the previous blog who answered my question on where to buy the mixers and grinder, much appreciated. Sincerely, Natalie from Nebraska

  11. My, why would she want more children!!!??

  12. Nice that Jinger seems to be the main chaperone so she can spend more time with Jessa before they get married.

Hope someone uploads these episodes online soon!! :)

  13. First I enjoyed watching the show last night, I have a question, does Jana have a Beau? I noticed at one point she was wearing a heart necklace, just like her sisters who are in courtships. Maybe she is keeping things quiet? Anyhow, good luck to all the couples.

Josh was being sarcastic when he said he was trying to stay in shape. He had obviously not been to the gym in a long time and was only playing around with Ben. It's his personality... it was supposed to be a joke.

  15. Josh was WAY too hard on Ben. He is not Jessa''s father; he is her brother.

    ReplyDelete
  16. But they do have expectations. Jessa expects Ben to go to work and be the breadwinner, while she stays home. I wonder if Jessa has considered getting a job so if they marry Ben can work part time and finsh his college education

  22. Seems like thecar wedding prank is a tradition. Josh even mentioned during his wedding that his family had a weird sense of humeri. It was funny for Josh Ok for Prascilla and Dave. Not so funny for Erin's. Even though it seems a tradition for the boys in the family I hope someone does tell them it really isn't that funny.

I was watching some of the older videos with Jana she was much more talkative. Wonder what made her talk less.

Some women just want to be a wife and mom and that is ok but from what I have seen from the Duggar girls I think they can take care of themselves if the situation required.

  23. Anonymous.. Mrs Duggar says expectations ruin relationships. I do find it odd that Anna helped at the dealer before kids but Josh does not make turkey and all the fixings. Michelle was driving trucks and doing real estate license also. But her husband can only grill canned tuna? I know they had the girls changing oil and the boys cooking, so they would know how. But I don't think it's put to practice. Now I myself can't change a tire. I think in most relationships there are a few task the other person never learned, never wanted to and the other does it and like to do it. That is fine.

  24. I just thought the product placement for the kids nutrition drink was a little corny. Other then that great episodes!

  25. It is impossible to try to keep up with what Jim Bob and Michelle actually believe. Michelle said in previews that 'we got the results of my blood work and that will determine the future of our family.' Wait, say wha? I thought God determined the future of your family? not the results of earthly bloodwork? Confusing to say the least. Very very confusing. Extremely confusing.

  26. @Anonymous at 11:06,
That may be true, but if you were looking, you might have noticed Joy Anna had a heart necklace as well. Hardly think she is in a courtship! (Yet)
It might have been a gift from her parents or something.

  27. Michelle would be happy not having more children? Then why is she visiting the dr. to see why she is not conceiving? She should realize the older children are getting married and who is going to take care of these babies she is having? Jim Bob nor Michelle seem to take care of the little ones now it is always one of the older girls.

  28. I think the Duggars are such a wonderful family. I think there values and morals they have speaks volumes. Good luck to the girls in their new lives with their relationships.

  29. Josh said "Stay in shape" not "I work out as often as possible". Stay in shape could mean he is eating right and avoiding the unhealthy foods like he was taking in before. Remember all the candies and cookies Anna had to throw out?

  30. The 2 new episodes are on YouTube now

  31. On couples weekend, Michelle keeps saying she's making sure it's ok for her to "catch a baby" I really wish she wouldn't say that. It makes it seem like she's going to "catch a cold".

  32. I'm not sure, but I got the impression that Jessa is trying to make money as a photographer. As we've seen through the years, it's been her and Jinger who have been into photography. And just because we don't see it, doesn't mean that she's not working. We only get a snapshot of their lives.

  33. @Anonymous@ Anony. 5---the bigger question is; WHY is she and JimBob visiting a fertility doctor when they claim to be leaving becoming pregnant up to God???

  34. "I love watching you cook, Jessa." Oh my word, that was so creepy but so adorable. Ben is so awkward and cute!!!! :)

  37. Does anyone know why Michelle didn't see Dr. Sarner? She is a high risk pregnancy ob/gyn too and could have given Michelle the same information. Doesn't Michelle trust Dr. Sarner anymore, as she said this new doc was someone she trusted? What's up there?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Maybe Dr Sarver doesn't feel Michelle should have more children. At any rate it doesn't hurt to get a fresh pair of eyes.

  38. It's Dr. SARVER not Sarner

  39. When Josh and Anna were courting, they hugged and held hands. Why are the girls only allowed side hugs. Just wondering why the difference.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wrong,,they did not hold hands until after they were engaged, look back at previous seasons.

  40. Come on Anonymous at 9:26!!!
You are so trying to stir up something that's not there! Maybe Dr SARVER (YOU said it wrong_) pulled out of practice, or Wendal is closer to the home. Don't try and start a gossip thing about this. That's just annoying.

  41. Hi there:) Just wondering--did the Duggars' have a film crew or someone they know go to Nepal with Jim Bob and Jill?? Just wondering who did the videoing?? :)

  42. @Anonymous

To Anonymous 6: So have you ever used a paper plate? There's nothing wrong with them. They work quite well. If you want to save the earth, don't do it by insulting people who use paper plates.

  43. It would have been nice if they mentioned why they didn't consult Dr. Sarver, as we know her from the previous kids...
