Duggars Recommend 'Mom's Night Out'

This weekend, Josh and Anna Duggar went on a date night to see "Mom's Night Out," a comedy that hit the theaters Friday, and they think you should see it, too.

"'Mom's Night Out' will make you laugh and remind you to take time to enjoy more of life's little moments."
~Josh and Anna Duggar

Here's the movie trailer:

Note to Parents: "Mom's Night Out" is rated PG and might not be appropriate for all ages.

  1. I disagree. The story was frivolous.

  2. Wow i must say Iam surprised in a positive way that anna recommends a non christian movie like this! I thought they would never even watch movies like this. But i like that fact!

    ReplyDelete
  3. THAT IS NOW MY FAVORITE MOVIE! I recommend it highly!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I disagree with Josh and Anna. This movie showed that children need discipline. The ladies were wearing short dresses and they didn't act like real mothers.

  5. That's a good and funny movie? When is it out in the UK?

  6. Sorry not impressed at all. I babysit for a young family and the whole family was in a car accident. This movie looks like foolishness to me. I Think there is real problems with the family today and the chaos and unpleasantness of family life is real but not comical. I may quit babysitting, I often wonder what the solutions for the family I work for is and I know they are not looking to me for their solutions but I am not interested in tolerating their lack of order and peace.
This movie looks terrible to me.

  7. I'm am really crazy surprised that Josh and Anna promote this. Not judging them at all but I didn't expect that from them.

  8. MY goal is to go to my local library and take out the books by the Duggar family. This movie is not high on my priority list, I am not sure it should even be on a list of things to do.

  9. Ian am totally surprised that the Duggars actually recommend this movie! Although it is supposed to be a Christian film, the movie had worldly actors, dancing, immodest dress,& music that is secular in beat! This is NOT a recommendation to any conservative Christian!

    ReplyDelete
  10. This was an awful movie! Not a good movie for a Christian with strong moral values! Disobedient kids were in the movie to laugh at, moms dressed with very low cut tops & short dresses. The music ugh that was played throughout the film was AWFUL. Not a recommendation!

  11. So cool!!! Cant wait to see it!!!!!

  12. Not a Christian movie too many worldly things. I wouldn't want my wife dressing the way those women did. The music was awful. Most important where is the gospel message in any of that Christian film? As a leader in a conservative Baptist church I do not recommend this movie.

  13. A Christian film with non christian actors Sean penn, Trace Atkins? Hmmm......

  14. I can't wait to see it:) I'm glad to here someone say its a good movie.

  15. I've never watched the movie, but just watching a minute or so of the trailer, I certainly don't recommend the trailer!

  16. This looks hysterical , funng stuff!

  17. I liked the Duggars because they were different from the world. I liked the order and peace of the Duggar family, it was present even though they had a very large family. The Bible says God is not the author of confusion. Applying God's word to their lives made the Duggars a Godly family and a light to the world. It is disrespectful of this movie Mom to say she just wants to get away from her children climbing on her, with hand gestures. How do children that like to crawl up into someone's lap for a bit of a snuggle, (comfort and love) view themselves if they see that statement BY A MOTHER? I actually think that Anna does not like the experience of being a Mom as much as she said she did in interviews because she is saying she likes this kind of talk.

    1. I don't think we should be upset or judging them for liking or see in that movie. We all have areas in our lives that need work. We are all not perfect. We use bad judgement. Personally I haven't seen this movie so I'm not sure what's in it. I just feel that we don't need to judge. :-)

  18. this movie is what people who love the Duggar family are trying to get away from

  19. Man some of you people sound so snooty and pompus! Y'all sound like the type of parent who wouldntt let a teenager watch a PG movie. Newsflash not every movie has to be religous in nature to be a nice film. Good for josh and anna for seeing as you put it "worldy" film. A true beliver wouldn't worry about a film changing their views.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I seen the movie and as a Christian young lady I would NEVER choose to watch something like this again! No Christian values & definitely a worldly film. I mean come on Trace Atkins Sean Penn ( as stated above)! And the way the women, men, children, dressed, & behaved went against all of those character qualities the Duggars stressed as important!!! Now why that would be a recommendation is beyond me! Where is the gospel message? Thumbs way down for me!!

  21. Why would a "conservative" Christians pay a movie theater money to watch any sort of film. I mean your giving money to the theater that puts out ungodly films to keep them in business. I look at it this way I do not go to a bar to buy a soda & I don't shop at Hollister etc to buy the latest in fashion.

    ReplyDelete
  22. People who claim children are a blessing and a reward from God should not be promoting a movie that is based on the moms needing to escape her blessings. There is some very graphic language from the mother on how she feels about needing to get away from her own children. Why are Josh and Anna planning a super sized family if this is an attitude they share? It is not fair to children to be talked about and laughed at like they are part of a clamouring brood that is unwanted.

  23. Children are right to have separation anxiety.

  24. Seems like a lot of judgement on these comments. I thought those with strong religious convictions didn't pass judgement on others. Seems a bit hypocritical to me.

I haven't seen the movie and I'm not sure if I will.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Strong religious convictions have nothing to do with judging! A Christians can righteously judge John 7:24 how can any Christian walk in this sin stricken world with out using discernment & judgement? We would often be involved in sinful actions if we didn't do that & see nothing wrong with that.i think that most of the people here are judging that micie itself not the Duggars! A person can be what I call a fruit inspector & judging those things by what fruit it bears. Also for you to blatantly say that those who commented are hypocrites you are #1 wrong for calling anyone a hypocrite (a lesson Jesus speaks about) & #2 speaking out of terms when you say a religious person is not supposed to judge. Also most Christians do not like to be called religious people. There are many religions out there Buddhist, Rastafarian, & Muslim. A lot kinder if you speak to a person who claims The Lord Jesus as a Christian. :)

  25. I didn't like the movie either and was surprised Josh and Anna went to see it. I would rather see a movie of the "Waltons" and their large family. They had their "Night out" episodes and it was beautiful and meaningful.! Very family oriented!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I also went to see the movie because it was recommended on my local Christian radio station. It was funny but I expected a serious film with real family issues. It was ok but not what I expected at all. The best part was that Alex Kendrick was in it. He is in a lot of Christian based films such as Fly wheel, Courageous, Fireproof etc. He is a regular guy not a famous actor. He is great.

    ReplyDelete
  27. IT IS CHRISTIAN if you heard Trace Adkins talking to her in the movie and it was made by a homeschooler! I am 12 years old and thought it was a wonderful movie!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Does everything have to be about being "Christian"? What's wrong with just enjoying a good/humorous movie?. Even Jesus didn't continually pray...he did carpentry, helped his parents, enjoyed the company of others...etc.There is nothing wrong with Josh and Anna finally stepping out in the real world and enjoying everyday things...who watched the kids?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I showed the trailer to my husband and he didnt like it at all. He didnt like the skimpy dreses, an said it promoted the idea that kids are a burden and not a blessing, that mothers are entitled to act like single women and that men are dumb and ard incapable of looking after their own kids. We wont be seeing it either.

  30. Hi all,
I'd like to send Jill & Derick a wedding present and I found her registry at Walmart. There are lots of things that are VERY affordable. I don't know them, but want to wish them well. Do you know where it should sent? I understand their address is probably secret, but could it be sent to the blog address? I know you girls, know the Duggars. Thanks.

  31. Seems to me like yet another movie that claims to be Christian but is peppered with the world. Not something to choose for date nite. If my fiancé ever spoke to anyone & had an attitude like those so called ladies I'd be wearing out my knees in prayer! Not funny or lady like! Awful movie

  32. If you remember when they were courting they watched a rated r movie. The twins were the chaperones. Glad they had a good time and got a good laugh.

  33. @Anonymous

Maybe the children in need of discipline reminded Josh of hi six younger brothers (not JD, Joseph or Josiah) and that's why he liked it!!!

  34. The question at the start is profound, "What would you give for a night out?". The baby was missing. This is kinda creepy.

  36. How nice to see some of the Duggars broadening their horizons, now watch the other half judge them.If its not the non fans judging then its the uber Christians doing it, these poor people cant catch a break.I know ,how about if knowon judges and just enjoy eachother no matter what are differences may be. Life would be a kinder place for all of us imperfect people to dwell.Godbless y“all :-)

  37. Looks suspiciously like a subtle form of undermining of the Christian message of salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ. This is going out to a large population and what is shown is not the Christian message of salvation through the blood of Jesus. Love, love, love an ever popular 'way' that does not involve the Christian Church or the Love of Jesus the Christ. Find the meaning in confusion through love, is that a justification of confusion, love enough and one can bring meaning to it? What about being set free through the blood of Jesus that unbinds the chains of sin? What about walking in victory? What about authority over demons? Love without Jesus is not enough, it is still bondage. Do people need to make bargains that say love enough and there in there is co existence with sin? A lot of girls shacked up with drug addicts are trying to do just that, etc. That type of thing is not the message of Jesus as far as I understand. Who will see this movie, perhaps many spiritually hungry people who are looking for a way to manage their sin sick lives. The message of this is live with it lovingly and there in lies meaning? This is what the trailer said to me and I think it is not the Christian way.

  38. I am Christian and would recommend this movie just from the trailer. It's in the world people! We have to live IN THE WORLD which the Lord gave use to live in. Looks like a FUN movie.Glad the Duggars recommended it. All you anonymous people commenting...look at how many fingers are pointing back at you when you point a finger at someone.

    1. I was one of the anonymous who posted negative feedback on the movie & the only finger I plan to see pointing back at me is my Lords when he says well done for leaving the world & following me! We live in this world but Christians are NOT of the world! So says Gods word :)

  41. I love the Duggar family but I'm not a fan of Amy Duggar. 'A Duggar leaves home', really miss leading title. Whenever she has been on the show she mugs for the camera. I wish her well but will not be watching.

  42. Looks like a cute movie. I think it is hilarious that people are criticizing Josh and Anna for this. Obviously they do not agree with every single thing in their own lives that goes on in this movie, some of the dress, the music, the dancing. However, they also live in a world where all these things are around them every day and they still talk to people and are friends with them that have different standards. And people you need to realize they were raised in a very controlled environment following the teachings of Bill Gotthard and ATI.... Maybe they are starting to open their eyes a little to the fact that you don't always have to wear a dress and some music with a beat is ok. It all sounds good to me!

  44. 1 John 2:15-17
    King James Version (KJV)
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

  45. Last year in my city a mom of a baby and toddler drowned them in the bath tub and drowned herself in the river. There were sensitivity issues around if or not the public health care system was working to help mothers with depression/mental illness. In memory is the woman in the U.S. who let her car with the two young boys in the back seat go into the lake and drowned them and the car was out of sight. Is this movie funny? Yes it does make a facetious tale of some things going wrong when mom has a break. Thanks Josh and Anna for recommending this movie. Maybe the world needs some ice breakers like this.

  46. The well known Rhesus monkey experiments are an indication of the validity and necessity of physical contact between off spring and parents/care givers. Dads or someone should help with this. All discipline seems hard at the time but later yields the peaceful fruits of righteousness. Funny movie on the topics.

  47. I always like the way the non judgers judge the judgers.

  48. I haven't seen the movie so I can't comment on the movie itself. I am a fairly conservative Christian homeschooling mom of 4. I love my children more than I ever knew possible. They are amazing blessings. But I would be lying if I dudnt ever feel like I needed a break, needed to get out, or have a little time away from them now and then. Whether or not you agree with every thing in this movie (less modest dress than you agree with, dancing, etc.) I can't imagine that most people wouldn't find some humor or some truth in this moms feelings. I'm sure that becau of it being a movie that they exaggerated it and dramatized it, but that's because it's a movie. A lot of the comments on here seem extremely judgemental to me.

  49. I was really shocked that the Duggars would actually recommend this movie! I have not seen this movie but I have seen pictures and posters about this movie and I think it looks terrible! Short dresses and bratty looking kids and I would think there would be a lot of crude language. Do the Duggars really think this is appropriate?

    Hi Anonymous 29,

What a lovely idea! You can send cards/wedding gifts to P.O. Box 1000 Tontitown, AR 72770. (UPS or Fedex shipments should be sent to Duggar Family, 548 Arbor Acres Ave Springdale, AR 72762.)

  51. Lesson learned, when you deserve a break today - and you have a mini van full of moms - go thru the drive thru, if you have the kids go in and let them play on the play structure while you talk, hopefully no problems.

  52. I can't believe how judgmental these so called Christians on this page are. This movie was written by a Christian homeschooler to appeal to all audiences. It supposed to be funny! Every mother needs a break from their children. The reason it is recommended for Christians is because there is no foul language, no sexual scenes, no drug scenes and it's rated PG it's
something a 5 yr old could watch. The movie is supposed to be something to enjoy on an date night with your spouse. Some people are so judgmental I can't stand it!

    ReplyDelete
  53. @Maxine Zoe Evans There is no crude language at all which is why is is being marketed to Christians. It was written by a Christian homeschooler. It's rated PG. It's suitable for all audiences and it's supposed to be funny. Short dresses and bratty kids...sounds pretty judgmental to me. The Lord doesn't like people to judge others.

  55. I saw this movie a few nights ago with some girlfriends. It was hilarious! I was laughing out loud! I am a homeschooling mom of 6 and about as orthodox as a person can get. When I saw the trailer I had some skeptical thoughts about it as well, but I'm glad I went. It was a nice break from my own children whom I adore and am laying down my life for daily. But come on, I'm human and need a break sometimes and it's good for the character of my own husband to take care of the children (serving others) without me always helping. BTW, I didn't see any cleavage or dresses above the knee. And, it is NOT SUPPOSED to be a realistic movie. It is a comedy filled with exaggeration, overly-dramatic, etc... It should be obvious to any Christian that we don't aspire to live like that movie. I think the movie is trying to make a really good point that I appreciate, albeit in a very funny and unrealistic way... full-time mothering is hard, requires much denial of self, sacrifice, time, etc... and any mom who is honest would admit that at times we all feel like we are going crazy. I'm not excusing it, we need to repent of it and the Lord grows us through it, but come on, we can be honest and admit we don't always have everything together... But with all the trials, we also say its worth it and it is one of the most important jobs out there, if not the most important. As the husband (Sean Astin) tells his wife at the very end of the movie, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." AMEN, right?

  58. From the trailer, I could tell it has the issues of unrealistic things happening that I don't care for. My daughter thought it was great. To each his/her own. No judging, just preference and sensitivity to God's leading. I respect all opinions.

  59. And Sean Astin IS a Christian, he talks very openly about his faith. Everyone in the movie is a believer. An the story was written by a homeschooling mom :)

  60. This is a Christian movie and there is no reason not to see it and all the more let it bring you some enjoyment and laugher while seeing it! Some of the comments are way too harsh and critical. I for one am glad Anna and Josh stepped out and went to a movie. It is a movie people, relax a little! Good Grief!

  61. The women showed their shoulders and knees?!! GASP! It looks like a great and funny movie, and I'm really glad to hear Josh and Anna went to see it. I sure plan to. For those who don't want to give their money to "Hollywood," think about how Hollywood itself might change if the studios realized how much purchasing power Christian audiences have.
