Duggar Food Challenge

Jessa Duggar, 21, and Joy-Anna Duggar, 16, are doing a three-week healthy food challenge! For lunch each day, the girls eat cubed chicken and sweet potatoes cooked in olive oil and seasoned with sea salt and pepper.

  1. first of all cubed does that really matter? second that seems like it would get really annoying after eating the same thing for days.

  2. It looks delicious, but won't it be healthier to vary your lunches rather than eating the same thing every single day?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Where are the vegetables? Chicken may be lean protein, and sweet potatoes a better option than other carbohydrates, but a balanced diet is important, especially for young women!

  4. This looks good, but I think eating this everyday would get very boring. Fruits and veggies would taste great with this. Also trying different seasonings or sauces with this meal would be fun to try as well. If able organic is the better option:)

  5. I'm so proud of these godly young ladies to take responsibility for the whole family to eat more healthily. Not to forget that many people look up to them! However, keeping in mind that they are role-models to other Christians, why don't they try a vegetarian/vegan diet for three weeks, and see the wonderful benefits. Visit http://www.jesusveg.com/ and http://www.godandscience.org/doctrine/vegetarian.html to learn more about why Christians should be vegetarians/vegans. It is our duty before god to take care of the bodies we were given, and the animals he created. Keep up the good work Duggar family!

  6. That sounds interesting can you tell us a bit more about what they are having for other meals? This meal does sound good although I think a side of brocolli or green salad would make it even better.

  7. This looks delicious but I would get bored eating it for three weeks. Great blog though Lily and Ellie!

  8. If they can stick to this diet I applaud them because it is super hard sticking to a diet. Personally I couldn't do it

  9. Good for the girls! Looks yummy and can't wait to see the results. Its fun to do things with a partner.:-) I'm sure Jessa is trying to help Joy:-) if its something Joy enjoys let her do it as long as she likes!

  10. Ack! Frying in olive oil? A healthier option would be either ghee or coconut oil. Also, if the intention is to lose weight, sweet potato is fattening. I also agree with the above commenters. They should vary things a bit.

  11. Juat curious... why are they doing this? They look perfectly fit and healthy. What do they eat for breakfeast???

    ReplyDelete
  12. No MacDonalds
    No kfc
    No taco bell

    ReplyDelete
  13. that is not really eating health they need other options. they need more choices. what about salad. the duggars have so much land how about them growing a garden.

  14. Looks yummy and healthy, i wonder what they will have for breakfast and dinner? I just read that The Duggars season 9 is only running through to November, what! Say it ain't so, it has to be just a half season then. That cant possibly be the whole season, its gonna take that long just for Jills wedding stuff.I wish it was possible for someone to find out what TLC's intentions are, us loyal fans deserve to know.

  15. Put some sauteed kale with that, ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  16. They should do a type of raw diet.....they could have a smoothie with coconut water, spinach or kale and a banana....raw vegetables with hummus or if guacamole as long as they make it homemade cause store bought may not be the healthiest option....also this meal does not look like something I would want for lunch everyday it would get boring.

    ReplyDelete
  17. olive oil? Sea salt? Doesn't sound very healthy... Geez

    ReplyDelete
  18. Girls, God made you perfectly as you are! If you are doing this to begin a healthier diet so you can serve Him better, awesome. Just know that health of your heart is way more impactful than any types of food we can consume. Jesus loves you!

  20. In my blogger feed, there was a title of a post on "update on the courting couple" that is not showing up on your site, but instead I get an error message that it isn't available. Just wondering if it will be reposted for us to read? :)

  21. WHERE DID THE PICTURES OF JESSA AND BEN GO?

  22. Chicken I love SWEET potatoes I don't like at all

    ReplyDelete
  23. thats not very healthy to eat the same thing for 3 weeks. Mix it up a bit ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Perhaps the authur of this post ment to say that the girls ate sweet potatoes with cubed chicken today. It would be difficult to eat this everyday for three weeks. Yes, there are so many healthy choices out there. I agree with the previous post about eating raw foods.

  25. I hope they are doing this to fast and not for losing weight or something. It's a bad cycle to get into with crash dieting. Don't do it! Look to the bible for examples on how to lose weight girls.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The girls already eat fine. The men who expressed an interest in eating better, working out and losing weight may want to do this.

It's only mean for 21 days. I'm sure they could get variety for breakfast and dinner. It's way better than tater tot casserole or lasagna or pizza. They are not deep frying the potato. Olive oil, salt and pepper are fine seasoning.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What an awesome idea! I would love to know more about the health plan.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'd vary the spices because I tend to like to change up things after three days. My husband could eat the same thing for one meal for weeks. Olive oil is a yummy, versatile oil which is good when you're living a frugal life in a rural area. I hope the two of them have fun with it. This is a great way for sisters to bond.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nice to do things together as sisters! How about trying to eat several healthy mini meals a day? Add variety to your diet. Also frying in olive oil?! Yuck try coconut oil... Better yet marinate in spices or other marinade & grill or bake. Also try different veggies or a salad. What you have shown is not an example of eating healthy at all! There is nothing healty about fried anything no matter if its in olive oil or not. Salad, grilled chicken/fish, & a baked sweet potato drizzled with olive oil is much better for you. Take it from me a I am a nutritionist.

  30. Sorry, but that isn't a healthy meal at all, especially when being consumed every day for 3 weeks. I realize that it is only one of the three meals, but ladies, frying a sweet potato at all isn't very smart, a BAKED sweet potato is the way to go, grill the chicken outside on the grill after marinating it in olive oil and some herbs. They need something green, like a v.e.g.e.t.a.b.l.e., preferably a fresh veggie. The diet of this family is atrocious.

    ReplyDelete
  31. While this does sound good, but not everyday for 3 weeks. It would be boring to eat the same exact thing everyday, and you really do need veggies and a fruit exchange. While sweet potatoes are better than eating regular potatoes, there needs to be some veggies, whether it be green salad, or cooked veggies. Not trying to repeat what others have posted, but variety is best, unless they are doing different sauces and seasonings...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think its great that the girls are trying to be more healthy by eating better food...
But they should do different things to. Its good to eat better but eating the same
meal is no fun to have for three weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is that certified organic? Why is eating the same two foods everyday at noon healthy. Is eating boxed macaroni everyday for a meal worse?

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is a very good start. Switching vegetables each day might prove helpful; and stay away from starch (corn, potatoes, bread). Growing a garden or even just a potted tomato, broccoli, or lettuce plant is a wonderful way to make sure you have vegetables all the time! Also sometimes eating meat only once a day could help your body to process it faster. Just a thought ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. That lunch looks really yummy! I think I'd get tired of it if I ate it every day for three weeks though. :)

Thanks for running such a nice blog Lily and Ellie!

  36. Good for them! Jessa's wedding diet....? :P JK!

    ReplyDelete
  37. If they are looking for healthy then they need some guidance.
TLC should hook them up with Dr. Oz.
They will find Olive oil fried sweet potato is not healthy, try steamed with a bit of coconut oil and fresh nutmeg.
People eat sweet potato to fill up fast and it will burn fat and help lower some of your blood counts but not that way.
Serving portions are the size of your fist.
They need some colour on that plate.

Good luck to them, I do hope someone gives them some help.

  38. Are they dieting for an upcoming wedding...like Jessa & Ben's wedding maybe??? Hum:)

  39. Sweet potatoes are not fatting they are better for you that regular potatoes and sweet potatoes have less solium.

    1. Yes, they are healthier for you. Its the only potato my family will have. But they are fattening.

  40. Sweet potatoes are healthy and so good and good for you.
Coconut oil is great but olive oil is much healthier.

    1. Olive oil is not healthier for you. It is also largely only intended as a salad dressing.

  41. They do have a garden. It's been featured in several episodes.

  42. Could you tell more about the challenege? Why are you both doing it? You are so beautiful there is no need to lose weight.

    ReplyDelete
  43. anon 17 may have a point according to
    http://www.internationaloliveoil.org/estaticos/view/85-frying-with-olive-oil
but there is also information about the benefits of frying in coconut oil
    http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/uses-of-coconut-oil-in-cooking.html

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think both of you are beautiful but if you have your heart into dieting then I am behind you 100%
Just do the diet in a healthy way with lots of greens and vegetables and lean meat...especially chicken and turkey. God bless all of you. You are a breath of fresh air and a big boast for our Lord.

    ReplyDelete
  45. How about fresh salad greens or spinach leaves with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, green peppers topped with a low fat or vingerette dressing? You could add chicken cubes or a hard boiled egg for a yummy chicken salad.
Another healthy lunch option is tuna fish (mix it with low fat mayo and chopped onions) topped with a lettuce leaf on whole wheat. Add a side of apple slices, grapes, or fresh berries.

  46. Out of all the healthy foods that exist, they're eating the SAME THING every day?!

  49. I like sweet potatoes, and chicken, this two combo gives you vitamins and protein to last awhile.

  50. Great idea on dieting.you two r already so pretty and healthy as it is I don't understand why you would want to lose weight. If you want a realy good idea on dieting then try replacing one to two meals a day with juicing. If you have a juicer anyway!!!!! Less eating more excersizing is the way to go!!!!! Keep it up
