Jessa Duggar Learns to Cook for Ben

Jessa Duggar will be the first to tell you that cooking is not one of her strengths, but she is determined to improve her culinary skills. In the following TLC webisode, she and Jinger head to Hot Springs, Arkansas, for a cooking lesson with Ben Seewald's sisters. The girls prepare Fettuccine Alfredo and apple pie with ice cream.

  3. I think Michelle's comment about expectations ruin relationships is a great thing to remember. A very wise statement. If we can remember that we will always be thankful to our spouse for everything they do instead of disappointed in what they did not do. It is so cute to see how Jessa is determined to become a good cook to bless her Ben.

  4. Good for Jessa!! I think it is really terrific that that she wanted to learn to prepare some food that Ben likes. The feminists will freak, but those of us who are perhaps more traditional totally get it! I'm glad the Duggar's are supportive of Jessa's future domestic role in the family she and Ben (presumably) will create. The world sometimes wants to belittle the massive impact women have on their families and would prefer to highlight her impact on the world because of her career. For those of us whose career is our family we know the importance of our work and it's value. I wish the "world" would stop putting us on the defensive by trying to undermine women who are wives and mothers, frankly, we don't have enough women willing or in a position to stay home and raise families. There is no greater work any of us (male or female) will ever accomplish than the work we do in our own homes. This is the very foundation of our society, the family. Strong families, strong communities, and so on.

  5. I love the Duggars and I watch their show religiously. But one thing I don't agree with are the gender roles that get instilled in the kids. I think men AND women should know how to do all aspects of housework. And that women should be able to work out of the house (And thus, expect their husbands to cook too).

  6. I really am excited to see more of Jessa's and Ben's courtship. I feel they were placed on the back burner. Can't wait for their engagement. She is definitely my favorite

  7. This ended too soon! Loving the shared details of the courtships. Michelle...thanks for the words of wisdom on expectations. I love how you individually mother and love all of your children according to their needs. GOD has blessed your world and it is so reflected in the Dugger lifestyle.

  9. What a great bit of advice that Michelle said! "Expectations ruin relationships. So if you don't expect anything, you will always be grateful when you come home and something is done". I love that! :D

  11. I love the Duggars, I do. But, the sexism is killing me! Men at work, while women stay home and cook, it is such an outdated concept. There is sooo many options nowadays for young people who start a life together. It does'nt have to be so stereotyped. You can still live a godly life and be a strong independanr woman with goals and projects of your own and young men can share the chores and housemaking responsabilities.

  13. Jessa is going to stay home if she marries? What if they don't/can't have children straight away? She's not going to work outside the home? It's important for guys to know how to cook too...what if some of the Duggar boys are called to the gift of singleness and not marriage? What about if the same happens to the girls? - gift of singleness...can they study, earn degrees and work outside the home? and have their own homes?

  14. On passed episodes I have seen the boys do housework and cooking and the girls do hard manual labor like, help build their home.Im sure if God forgive something bad happends to one of their spouses, that the family would help out and not leave them to fend for themselves, that is what families do fo one another.

  15. @Anonymous What if women WANT to stay home and cook? That's not sexism, that's women doing what they want. If Jessa has had the CHOICE of staying home or not, then who cares if she wants to stay home and do all the cooking? Who cares if she wants to have Ben work? Now, if she doesn't have that choice, but it's some sort of expectation, then that's another thing.

    1. Couldn't of said it better myself.. now, if she didn't have a choice and its some sort of EXPECTATION, that's another thing. She WANTS to learn to cook better and Ben's favorite meal.

  16. If Jessa wants to learn how to cook for Ben she should take culinary classes to learn the correct way, i noticed a few mistakes his sisters showed her, and the Duggars are more home cooks, as Ben seems to be into health fitness, so he probably needs to eat more nutritious type meals.Actually the whole family could learn some new recipes.Send over some chefs from the food network to teach them, that would be fun to see

  17. People, please remember Jill is becoming a mid wife! Talk about doing what she loves! I think they all have the choice, and make the one that works best for the time in their lives they are in. Remember Anna was at work with Josh as long as it made since to her and Josh. I love to see the gals teaching each other and making anyone's favorite meals! Talk about expressing ones love. I know my daughter and I were very happy to pass on some of my son's favorite meals to his new wife. It just adds new ideas to a household.

  18. I agree with the posters who are NOT critical of Jessa for wanting to improve her domestic skills. As for the critics, please relax and consider being a bit more open minded toward those who do not share your perspective. This is a big world and there is room here for all of us. It is disheartening to realize how disdainful people can be toward women who embrace domesticity. It seems to me that one of the reasons the show was created was to highlight the family because they are not conforming to trends, so why push the family to become something they are not?

  19. This family is precious. Too bad we don't have more families like this in our world today. May God always watch over and protect them and theirs.

  20. Jessa has a lot experience cooking so she'll be a great stay at home wife!

  21. I love tradition. my husband works full time and I look after our daughter and the house and do a majority of the household chores. Unfortunately I do have to work as hubbys income is not enough to support us and he takes care of the home while i work. If I could I would be a full time stay at home wife and mother. I love taking care of my family and see the enjoyment of them enjoying the meals i prepare for them.
