Jill's Book a NYT Best Seller

It has been 10 days since Jill (Duggar) Dillard's new memoir has been released. Like Jinger's book, Counting the Cost has also become a New York Times Best Seller. It can be found on the Hardcover Nonfiction list and is currently in second place.

    2. Jingers book was in a whole different category and had the little dagger 🗡️ known for bulk presales to stores and companies basically not actually bought singly by people . Jill’s is in the non fiction section arguably the second biggest section . While jingers did amazing in her own right ,Jill’s book has already out spelled hers by god only knows how many in two weeks . Either way a great achievement for both young ladies

    3. 10:58 untrue. You must by them in bulk to resale for a higher price.

    4. @9:18 No, it's not RETAIL bulk sales that earns you the dagger. It's ordering a zillion books all at once going to somewhere other than a retailer. For instance, a church orders all those copies. Or the publisher orders all those copies. Or the author herself orders them. There's no proof that the books are ever sold to anyone past that point. They could sit in a warehouse or garage, unsold. It's a way that authors and publishers artificially inflate numbers to try to get on that list, which is why the NYT uses the dagger to differentiate certain books. Everyone who knows the NYT Bestseller List knows this!!

    3. Maybe if her parents had actually been parenting the children that they had instead of continually having babies that they couldn't care for, this book may never have been written. What you sow you shall reap...

    11. 6:16 she wanted to finally tell her story. She couldn't do that because she was still under contract and she was dealing with court stuff.

    12. Well said 3:22. However I think Jill is so far gone and detached from the family she could still continue to beat them up and hurt them…the parents and siblings would be better off if Jill would leave them alone.

I will keep you in prayer that you will stay strong and continue to serve God and that you will keep growing closer and closer to God. Thank you for sharing your testimony and I'm sure you helped other people to know that even if we stray away from God that we can still return to Him. He loves us and is merciful to us.

    3. She put in the hours with Josie? No she didn't, Michelle left medically fragile Josie with Jana while she traveled to promote the family's book or show or both. Josie had a really bad seizure while Jana was watching her and Jana barely knew what to do other than to call 911. The filming crew had to step in to help before the ambulance arrived. That's not "putting in the hours." Then the Buddy System kicked in too and Michelle put in even less time with any of her kids!

  10. Congrats to the Dillard's. The book is well done and does not smear the Duggar name. Jill was very complimentary toward both her parents and many times said how much she loves them. She told the truth both beautiful and ugly. She and Derick have forged their way through self discovery and healing, and I believe truly want a healthy relationship with her family.....but not at any cost.

    1. True, 7:54. I don't understand why Jim Bob is so difficult to deal with. He had trouble with his own father and the circumstances that man caused. So Jim Bob should be the first person to see what happens when a father is not what he should be for his kids. He had a role model of what not to do, yet his need for control still messed up his relationship with Jill (and Jinger, to a lesser extent).

    2. 9:14 What? Who said anything about irresponsibility? Obviously they're not irresponsible, or they couldn't have paid for college, bought a house, and added to their family. You're reaching to try to cause a problem that isn't there.

      Delete
    3. @6:38: the poster said "she could probably use the money." 9:14 was asking if the poster knows if they are irresponsible with money. How does the person who posted know their financial situation? And if she/he does know them, why would they say something so personal about others? These are legit questions.

  15. It's not like Jinger's book. Jinger's placement was based on bulk orders and was marked that way while on the list. (Read about how books are ranked there.) Jill has actually sold enough individual copies to truly earn her ranking. Two different types of totals. Jim Bob and Jeremy's church probably didn't place any big orders for Jill's book, but she wouldn't have needed them anyway. She really has a best-seller. Good for her. Who knows where all Jinger's books actually wound up. Not in individual hands, according to the New York Times and this list.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Exactly! Jill made the number 2 best seller list legitimately, but Jinger did not. There’s actually an article explaining that Jill actually earned her way there!

      Delete
    6. You truly don't understand how that list works or what the dagger symbol (that Jinger had beside her book) means. The other people here are correct. Bulk sales by either Jinger's publishing house or Jinger herself drove her numbers up artificially. Jill's sales numbers are significant on their own merit and accurately represent individual sales.

      Delete
    7. 3:442 you said this about Jingers book. That is untrue. The only way you would know if something has been brought on bulk is if you brought them in bulk yourself and resold them.

      Delete
    8. 11:54 its not true. You are twisting it like you did Jingers book. Like I said before, the only way to truly know is if you yourself brought bulks of the books and resold them.

      Delete
    9. 9:07/9:09 Go read the New York Times' website and hear it straight from them. That may be the only way you ever believe the people here who are correct about the dagger! Really don't understand why you don't go do that and learn about the dagger.

      Delete
    10. @9:09 Publishers report weekly sales. Publishers know if sales were bulk. The NYT knows what publishers report - they use those numbers for their list. End of any silly conspiracy theories.

      Delete
    11. 9:07/9:09 actually 2:03 is telling the truth. If you read the definitions of the Times Best seller list it clearly states the definition of the dagger. It’s not a “bad” thing, it just means they’re were bulk sales involved. 2:03 doesn’t have to have bought a bulk order to know that, it’s very clear on the Times site.

  16. Good for Jill. She really pulled the curtain back. I think we all knew that what we saw on TV was a facade not how the family actually functioned.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think everything that we seen on their show was a facade at all. I think somethings were more organized for the show to be able to film a scene easier, but not a facade. I think they were and still are family who love God and want to serve God in every way they can. What curtain was pulled back was the curtain of two money hungry daughters who will do anything for money even if it means taking a family ministry and causing all kinds of accusations to be made to discrete all the hard work and labor of love that the family put into trying to bless God and others.

      Delete
    2. The dysfunction with Jim Bob and Jill goes way back. There's even evidence of trouble between Jill and siblings from years ago. Puzzling at the time but clear now. What we saw on TV was a lot of fantasy and only the things that they wanted us to see. But some people bought into it lock stock and barrel and still won't let go of that fantasy, even with books, police reports, and court records all come to light. I feel sorry for them and their children.

      Delete
    3. I agree. It's hard to let go of what appeared to be a "perfect" family and accept reality. I think Jill wanted to heal the breach but Jim Bob won't let that happen. So sad.

      Delete
    4. Boy 10:45 you really can't see any other possible side to this can you. Even after all that's happened and all that's come to light. Even with a new tell-all (well, tell-some) book. Even with a son who's where he is. The Duggars are still shining examples of parenthood to you. Do you have kids? Are they perfect and do they do nothing but praise you for being perfect too?

      Delete
    5. Jill is causing many problems for herself..

      Delete
    6. What, 10:18, she should go through her whole life being the doormat for people in her family who want to walk all over her and use her for their own gain? She shouldn't do anything about it? I don't think so.

      Delete
    7. Anon 3:47 I have three beautiful, God loving respectful children. I can see both sides and its clear to me that these 2 daughters want the old life back with all the perks and will do absolutely anything to get it. Jill and Hunger both if this was about helping people would have done it for free, they wrote books because there is money in it and enough Duggar haters to make a buck off of. There is not one of us out here who couldn't pick apart somethings about our childhoods and sell our parents out for money if we wanted to be devient. There is no excuse for what they are doing. As far as Josh goes, he was and still is a pervert and is where he belongs. The parents did everything they though was right to get him to stop and it worked for awhile until he got married and then their hands were tied. The Duggars have 19 kids and one went terrible wrong, two daughters got money hungry and turned on them but all the other 16 are good people who live honorable lives, so that is pretty good child rearing if you ask me.

      Delete
    8. I agree 9:42.. with that many kids, they were sure to get a few "bad apples" per se. It is sad because Jill was so sweet as a kid

      Delete
    9. @10:45 There are way too many exposed inconsistencies to list, but if you watch the old episodes knowing what you know now, they are glaring.

      Delete
  17. I’m glad Jill named all those corrupt people in Arkansas who did not do justice to the sisters. Those people responsible in unlawfully releasing the juvenile records should be held responsible. Derrick must of had his hand in adding all the financial stuff, even personal stuff about the siblings and their $80,000.00 offer, he should of considered the siblings right to privacy, they didn’t do anything to him. I would say the Duggar parents and children will be careful what they put in writing to Jill, it may end up in a book. There seems to be so much joy in the books success, but it’s sad to see this lovely family so fractured. I agree with all the people who say she doesn’t care about her large family, and she was surely swayed by Derrick. My heart goes out to dear sweet Michelle, driving at Midnight to give Jill the information she demanded.. Michelle has suffered so many trials and sorrows but she continues to be such a testimony in her faith in trusting in Jesus.

    1. Michelle should have told Jill off and waited til the timing was convenient for her..not "sweet Jilly muffins"

      Delete
    2. 10:11 The books didn't "fracture" the family. That damage was done years ago, long before any books came out. I thought driving at midnight, right before the deadline, was more of a control move than a kind heart. Had those papers not been delivered, the legal hammer would have fallen, and Jim Bob knew that. He purposely waited til the last minute to deliver, and then couldn't even bring himself to do it. Michelle may be trusting in Jesus, but we must all be careful that we don't blindly trust while matters that need to be taken care of are right in front of us, and remember that Jesus expects us to deal with things properly, not put our minds in trust mode and coast. We need to solve our own problems too, especially when we've made them ourselves!

  18. To all the people thinking Jill only did this for the money: Did you read the book? She has been wronged in horrible ways. How was it okay for Jim Bob to cash 8 Millions and it is not okay for her to get money for her book.? She is a good christian and a brave woman.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @1:15 I agree with you 100%. The people accusing Jill of being greedy can't seem to understand what Jim Bob very greedily did with the money the entire family earned. There should have been money held in separate trusts for the minors who appeared on camera all those years. As an adult, Jill should have been paid for every episode she appeared in, and half of the money from all the episodes when it was called Jill & Jessa Counting On. If anyone wants to say now that Jill is greedy, then they should be saying the same thing about Jim Bob and Michelle, who sold out first, in a huge way and from something that turned out to contain many falsehoods.

    2. Why aren't any of the other duggar girls speaking out then? They seem to be doing well for themselves and aren't complaining about their lives. Give it up!

      Delete
    5. 12:06 "Josie and Jennifer Counting On" wouldn't have cut it. Jim Bob needed the name to be the names of the 2 married girls, so the public would be interested in watching them start families.

  19. That's great news. It was an interesting book. To be honest, I had had a rather negative view of Derick, but after reading the book that shows his support for Jill and commitment to doing what they both had decided was best for their family, I see him in a much more favorable way. The book has a powerful message regarding giving someone complete authority over other people's lives. I think it has broader appeal than Jinger's book does.

    1. I'm glad Derick has used his education to get a position where he's able to help people with legal troubles. I wish he hadn't said a lot of things he said in the past about people not like him, but I hope he's learned that lesson and changed his tune. He's going to see all sorts in his new job and is going to have to get along with everyone.
