John and Abbie Pack the Airplane

John-David Duggar and Abbie Burnett pack their airplane

"We put a lot of stuff in the airplane. Fortunately, we have an airplane that can haul a lot of stuff, and we took advantage of that."
-John-David Duggar

John and Abbie Duggar already revealed the location of the honeymoon they took a few months after the wedding (see our post from four weeks ago), but where did they go immediately after becoming husband and wife? No one knows! In this video, you'll see them loading up their airplane with all kinds of supplies.

  1. How nice to be able to get around in an airplane but it must be very expensive too. The average person could not afford to travel this way I'm sure. I also wonder why they don't just get heavy items like bottled waters when they get where they're going?

    1. They do this sort of thing for the camera. I could see taking a couple of bottles inside the plane to drink during the trip, but otherwise it's just a gimmick for the cameras.

    2. It actually does not cost very much. He is a pilot and needs to maintain his hours anyway so might as well go somewhere instead of just circling around an airport. Besides, commercial flights are more expensive by the time you add in airport taxes, taxi or parking, etc. As they showed here, you can take more with you from home rather than having to buy everything at your destination.

      Delete
    3. I'm sure it's cheaper since it's his own plane and he is a pilot. So he just has to pay for fuel and the upkeep. A lot different than the average person flying on a commercial airlines.

      Delete
    4. It’s not uncommon for a pilot. My husband’s grandfather was a farmer and a pilot. They didn’t have a lot of money but they had a small plane they could travel in.
And if they went to a cabin in the middle of nowhere and all they had was a plane, how could they go to the store?

      Delete
    5. @anon.@ 4:55-owning a plane is expensive! Jet fuel is expensive, insurance is expensive and upkeep is expensive (maintenance & hangar/landing fees).

      Delete
    6. To Anon 5:30 pm. They probably keep their plane on their own land, like many people do. They probably, with that huge family, have several who can do their own maintenance. Insurance and fuel is no more expensive than for a car or included in the price of a commercial flight. Owning a plane is not that expensive, really. No more than having a fancy car. And especially cost saving when you have a big family.

      Delete
    7. Anon 3:02. Unless the Duggars have a runway, hanger and fuel tanks on their property it's highly unlikely they "keep the plane on their own land". If you really think owning a plane is the same as owning a car, you're mistaken.

    8. I agree with anon 11.34am. You cannot keep a plane on your own land unless you have a runway for take off & landing & let’s be honest how many people have space for a runway ? Even in a large property it wouldn’t be possible. Anon 11.34 is also right when saying you need a hanger to keep it in as even a small plane takes up a lot of space. As for fuel, you use a lot more fuel flying than you do in a car & to say owning a plane is as cheap as running a fancy car seems ridiculous. Also as John flies people around he will need public liability insurance & that’s certainly not cheap. A lecturing colleague at university Who I work with one day a week while teaching students is a pilot in his spare time & he had to sell his small plane due to excessive costs of keeping it in a hanger & fuel & insurance. It was just too much for him to keep up, & this man is on a very good income as a professor, so clearly keeping a plane is expensive. Though I do think it’s very handy for the Duggar’s to have one, it’s not exactly a frugal way to live, but with all their book sales, speaking engagements & tv work they don’t need to be so careful with money as they did before they were famous, let’s be honest here.

    9. 3:02Pm How do you get "a big family" into that tiny little plane?

  2. This couple takes the cake on connected and matte and adorable. Yay John & Abby! Love this whole family but these two get my heart

  3. I didn't realize putting some luggage on an airplane needed that many people and so much conversation. lol

  4. hmmm, now i'm curious as to where they went! they are such a great looking couple. abbie is absolutely adorable. i bet she has a fantastic sense of humor like john does.

i got to say this about all the duggars that have married, their spouses are all perfect matches for each of them!

  5. I hope they will eventually tell us where they went on their get away and show a few pics. Can't blame them for wanting some time to themselves especially since Abbie wasn't used to constant camera crews.

    1. I don't think any of the other Duggars are going to be able to top this getaway scene. Hopping into your plane and flying off to a secret destination.

  6. That's a little plane. But they were so happy

  7. Highlighting yet another Duggar vacation is proof that TLC is banking on the incredible shallowness of the average viewer. Taking the show at face value, one would assume that the family is on one long etended honeymoon, with breaks in between for more manicures, wedding dress fittings and gender reveals. I would be very surprised if this show lasts another season. It appears to be on life support.

    1. What do you mean yet another? This is from their honeymoon. And people have been making the same comments about the show running its course since 19 Kids and Counting was still on.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, that's why I stopped watching. I just catch up here on DFB.

      Delete
    3. They were packing the plane for their honeymoon which is what is stated. It isn’t shallow to go on a honeymoon. Most people go on one after marriage. When you have a family of 19 kids with several married and with their own children, it makes sense for someone to always be traveling or pregnant or getting married. That is just life with a large family. It certainly isn’t the same people traveling every time. With TLC only showing six episodes in a season, we see very little of their normal lives.

      Delete
    4. Actually 6:09 It doesn't make sense to assume that people just sit around longing to see yet another wedding, honeymoon, pregnancy, and birth. I come from a family of 13 and our lives don't revolve around weddings to birth scenarios. We have lots more going on in our lives along with weddings to birth scenarios. I think it's the Duggar s way of getting TLC to pay for these weddings, honeymoons, gender reveal parties etc. Etc. I don't think it's TLC picking these things to film, but the Duggar s choosing these things to film. Why would TLC pick only the most expensive events in people's lives to film?

      Delete
    5. 2:03, those most expensive events are family milestones. It would be weird if they didn't give them a place of prominence on the show. As to the other things they put on the show, like the building projects and whatnot, I noticed that they started really backing off of showing us every day life when they started Counting On. Maybe they decided after the hailstorm of criticism after Josh's sins came to light that they still wanted to be on TV, but to really back off of letting us see what their family life was like. I guess to still do a show but have more privacy in some respects.

  8. So sweet! I love that this family helps each other out all of the time. John and Abbie are adorable! They seem so very happy together!

  9. John and Abbie seem to have a similar personality and sense of humor, so it's no wonder that they hit it off so quickly. They seem to communicate well and have truly become best friends.

  10. They had to do an interview about putting luggage on a plane? Why?

    1. Ask TLC If it means that much to you! lol.

  11. I really appreciate and am glad they did not tell anyone where they went ahead of time. But now that they are back, I would love it if they shared where they did eventually go. Don't even need any pictures. It would just be fun to know.

  12. LOL, the ”unintelligible” thing Abbie says to John at 1:03, is her calling him John Boy. It’s a character from a 1970’s tv series called The Waltons. I guess we now know one of her nicknames for him!

  13. I’m still baffled at how rude and jealous people can be..... If you don’t like that some have pilot license and planes and can fly where and when... then don’t watch.... also as viewers they don’t have to let us know where they went when they left the reception..they did let everyone know where they went on their honeymoon. The family has been blessed because they honor the Lord and do his work around the world. Non Christians just can’t understand when you Honor the Lord ... He will bless you and give you the desires of your heart. Have a Blessed Day.......

    1. What an arrogant comment! God gives because he is gracious, not because of our honorable behavior.

    2. Maybe some Christians don't understand that you shouldn't go around flaunting what you believe God has given you. God appreciates humbleness.

    3. According to the Bible, it doesn't always work that way. Look at how the apostles were persecuted. Look at Joni Eareckson Tada, such a faithful servant, but look at her horrific health issues - paralyzed from the neck down, now cancer. Yet, she continues to praise God. Our ultimate blessings are waiting for us in eternity. The Bible says we WILL suffer here on earth.

      Delete
    4. @10:39 Thinking like that only generates the "Why not me, Lord?" questions. If this is an honor system, then why do some people get things and others don't, even if they feel they're 100% honoring and deserving? Why do bad things happen to good people? Where's the same handy "blessings" explanation for when things go wrong?

      Delete
    5. So, they’ve been “blessed” because of they honor the Lord and do his work. I know many people whom honor the Lord and do His work; but continue to have personal struggles, don’t travel all or own multiple properties. The Duggars have money because JimBob contracted with TLC, has many rental properties, frugality and speaking engagements!

      Delete
    6. Anon 4:09. The "blessing" thing is like a bell curve. Some people get lots and lots of blessings, others never get much in the way of blessings. Most fall somewhere in the middle. It all depends on where you fall on the curve. I don't think it has much to do with "honoring God" as it's so random

  15. Can't see the video. Did they really pack a massive amount of bottled water? Bet they were headed to Mexico. Even if John can't cross the border with his pilot's license, they could fly somewhere closer (CA) and then rent a car and drive.

    1. You can buy bottled water in Mexico. I'm not sure why they took all that water WITH them.

    2. Mexico? Why the desert land of Mexico for a honeymoon? There’s plenty of remote areas in the US. Mexico does not seem to fit John and Abbie.

    3. Mexico has lots of resort areas. They said they went "somewhere warm" on their first honeymoon...

    1. I guess it's a reflection of how imperfect the world is, including this family who by their own admission are not perfect. You would be asking for the moon if you wanted perfection all the time.

  18. In Tennessee, a 14 year old would not have a learner's permit. So, they wouldn't have been driving. Plus, Jim Bob should put Jackson in a driver's school instead of having a police officer taken away from their duties. Just saying...

  19. Wow, the complainers and haters are searching the bottom of the barrel to complain about bringing bottled water. They are desperate to find something, anything, to complain about. They are ridiculous and hilarious.

If a trip is filmed, it's paid for in one way or the other.

    3. 12:10 It's hard to keep all these trips and honeymoons straight, but I think they went to the Philippines on a mission trip before they got married. BTW, how do you know what trips they do or don't pay for?
