Garrett's 1st Beach Trip

Garrett Duggar with grandma Christina Caldwell

"It's just amazing...realizing that she's already done this how many times over and how painful and challenging and hard it can be, but that she's done it anyways. It gives me a greater appreciation for everything that she's done for me."
-Kendra Caldwell Duggar

  1. So a good time was had by everyone. I'm glad Kendra's mom made it through the vacation without going into early labor on the beach.

  2. So scary for Kendra's mom that she is having contractions at only 28 weeks. I had contractions at 30 weeks (not Braxton Hicks) but then I started to dilate (without my water rupturing). I was kept in hospital for 5 weeks, with medications off and on to prevent labor. At 35 weeks I was able to go home and our son was born at 37 weeks. I would be so nervous to be at the beach, on vacation, at 28 weeks with contractions because of the risk of them becoming real labor.

    1. Exactly. That was why I think it was risky for Kendra's mom to go on vacation with her history of contractions and early labor. She was lucky she didn't end up in the ER in Florida.

    2. But her contractions are only Braxton Hix, so you can’t really compare your experience to hers.

    3. They've tempted fate so many times with pregnancies on this show that I've lost count.

  3. What kind of husband puts his wife through that, knowing that she has problems each time? Why doesn't one of them talk some sense into the other one?

    1. They wanted a lot of kids. It’s not unsafe, just uncomfortable. If she’s not willing to do it then who are you to judge them?

    2. Because the children are worth it.

    3. Obviously the love of children overrides the discomfort of having the contractions for so long. They didn't say that she was high risk, did they?

    4. Anon @ 12;17 Exactly! I know babies are a blessing from God but I also believe God gives us knowledge and expects us to use it. My pregnancies were not easy, my son was born at 34 weeks and my daughter at 35 weeks we talked about it and although I might have like one more my husband wasn't prepared to have me go through all that again possibly risking my life and the babies life, leaving our other two children motherless, I saw the sense in what he was saying and counted my two healthy blessings, I've never regreted our decision.

    5. @12:17- It’s definitely a mindset that is difficult to understand. I honestly believe that having children can become an addiction, just like anything else, and religion is used as a justification. I think it irresponsible of the media to glorify it.

    6. My husband and I watched this together. He said he couldn’t imagine putting me through so much pain so many times.

    7. 8:50, your’s is the most strange comment that I have ever read. It’s irresponsible of the media to show people having kids?? How odd of you.

    8. 2:26, her pregncies obviously aren’t unsafe, they’re just uncomfortable. If her contractions were real she would be on bed rest, she just gets Braxton Hix contractions. I know many many other women who get them regularly starting at five or six months and they last until the end of their pregnancies. If she’s willing to do that to have kids it really is not anyone else’s business.

    9. She should stop having more and enjoy these ones

    10. @9:12 I understood what 8:50 was saying. If the media is feeding into a frenzy of having LOTS of kids, and if people are having lots of kids because they'll get attention or a TV show, that isn't good. Think of how many "big family" shows have been on TLC and other networks, and what has happened to those families. Look at what the media and the public did with that mother who had octuplets years ago. Not a good atmosphere in which to raise your kids. And we hope that it isn't any sort of strange incentive for other people to try similar feats.

  4. I think it's a great tradition to go to the beach with the whole family. Panama City is a driving distance from Arkansas, and I hope Joe and Kendra will either be joining Caldwells or take their own trips with their own little family from now on. I felt bad for Christina, but pregnancy is her choice.

  5. The picture of Garret on his Grandma’s lap made me laugh. His diaper looks like it’s come undone and all I could think was “my husband must have diapered that kid!”. Even after 3 children he still struggled with disposable diapers. He was ok with the cloth ones but those sticky tabs just threw him for a curve. I sure hope Grandma didn’t get a wet lap!

    1. lol, that's funny! i thought i was the only one who noticed his diaper needed changing (blue line), but then i realized it might just be from him being in the salt water. i was laughing when joe was dipping his feet in and thinking to myself 'watch that diaper balloon!' (lol, have seen it with my own)

  6. What a sweet video. Kendra and her mother have such a beautiful relationship. How we wish that all mother-daughter bonds could be so healthy. Thank you for your encouragement to others. And little Garrett is just precious. In Good Faith, ~The HARLOWS

  7. Kendra's mom could barely walk. That was scary to watch.

    1. Were you and me watching the same video? That’s a very dramatic statement to make.

    2. Saw it on the program and thought the same thing @1:21. Wondered why they were having her walk to the beach. She looked so uncomfy and tired.
