  1. Great Idea for Mrs Vuolo Jeremy's mom to do this organization called swan 4 kids for kids who parents are in jail. No kid wants their parent or parents in jail they want them both in the same house. This is a good idea for Jeremy & Jinger to help Mrs Vuolo Jeremy's mom & Jingers mother in law.

  3. It is quite a thing to pay $60 to attend, but if i were in America around there then I would love to go to that event!

    1. We couldn't swing the $60. Honestly, if we could pay it, we'd prefer to donate it to a prison ministry program that helps a larger number of children- as opposed to those musically inclined. I do think this is nice for those children of inmates who are musically gifted or interested. More than music lessons and the accompanying discipline though, these children need someone to emotionally invest in them for the long haul-not as a "case", but as an individual human being.

    2. Anon 6:57 You made some good points. When I was reading your post what came to mind is something like the Big Brother and Big Sister program where the children are given a young adult to spend time with and be mentored by. They form lifelong bonds with their mentors in most cases and have most of all they have someone who has come along side of them to help them maneuver through all the hurts and struggles of having a parent or parents who are incarcerated.

  4. Welcome to PA, Vuolo's. Lancaster county is a beautiful site to visit. Enjoy our beautiful fall weather and good luck to your ma's interest.

  5. This sounds like a great charity. Thank you to all the Vuolos for making this help available to these kids.

  6. I love the concept of this organization yet I was not impressed by the story of the young woman being sponsored to perform at Jinger and Jeremy's wedding. The couple should have paid for her travel and accommodations since she provided a service for their wedding, rather than have a nonprofit foot the bill. I thought that was very inappropriate and tone-deaf on their part.

  7. Too bad the Swan program has to come with "Biblical mentoring and Gospel truths." Too bad it can't be nondenominational, non-religious. Not everyone wants or needs that along with their music lessons. Not every child who could benefit from a program like this wants or needs to hear one religion's views. It's like they're dangling the carrot of a beneficial music program, but the price you pay is having to hear their religious rhetoric.

    1. I'm not knocking this program at all, but as someone involved in prison ministry for the past 9 years, I'm wondering how this program manages the attendant behavioral issues that often accompany children of inmates. Often times, the children are angry, distrustful of others, self-reliant(understandably, given their home situation and the accompanying embarrassment/shame the parent's decisions thrust upon the child). Sometimes, they're deceptive and manipulative of "do-gooders" (covertly holding in contempt those who seek to help them but eager to take what they can get, a.k.a. "streetwise"). Ministering to the children of inmates isn't always the beautiful picture painted for donors. It takes a team of well-seasoned, discerning individuals, composed of those on the "outside" with years of prison ministry experience and former inmates who've actually experienced new life in Jesus Christ. IT's been my experience that ex-offenders who have become Christians are very good at discerning when someone's trying to "play" them or game the ministry. That's not to say that all children of inmates are "bad" or anything like that. It just takes a lot of time, personal commitment, discernment, patience, and money. These children have very little stability in their lives to begin with and very little good parenting/good role models/people who care about them-it's not for the faint of heart.

    2. I totally agree.

    3. I think it's great that they're up front about what they do. If kids don't want to hear from the Bible, they don't have to join the program, I guess.

    4. See there is someone saying mean things about christains but I don't hear tlc defending them

  8. I wish I could see them. I can't afford that ticket price. Eyre going to be so close to where I work. I work for Bethany christian services. We work with adoption and kids with trauma issues.

  9. This charity is all well and good, but when is Jeremy at HIS CHURCH tending to it and the people IN IT? He is hardly home, quite unpastor-like if you ask me.
I don't think he truly has much desire to be there in spite of buying a house there. It was a good financial move for him to purchase a home, but his attentions are obviously elsewhere.

    1. And you know his intentions? How?

      Delete
    2. How can you judge Jeremy' hearts desire? Your judging from the little you observe. I've no doubt God sees Jeremy' true heart & motives & speak to him about the matter if needed.

      Delete
    3. A lot of pastors travel and speak at different events. Most of the time they don’t miss services at their own churches since they do these events on days other than Wednesdays or Sundays.

The people who go to his church are the only ones that need to be concerned with how often he travels.

      Delete
    4. He might be an assistant Pastor. Jeremy and jinger are on a reality show so I can't imagine he is the main Pastor. I don't think a Pastor would have time or be interested in putting his private life out for all the public to see. All the Pastors that we know would never condone that. I think he is an assistant Pastor which is why he can travel so much too.

      Delete
    5. And you know when he's at his church and when he's not? How?

      Delete
    6. How do you know he is not there? Do you attend this church?

      Delete
    7. My husband is a pastor and every church has a handful of folks exactly like you.

      Delete
    8. This is just the first step on Jeremy's career ladder. He'll be in a bigger church before long.

      Delete
    9. I think it's a legit question. If Jeremy is the lead pastor at the church, then his job is to be there on Sundays for his flock. That doesn't mean he can't take a Sunday off now and then like at any other job, but he should be there the vast majority of the time to care for his flock.

  10. Wow, hope they find enough people who are able to donate that much money to their event!

  11. Why would anyone want to meet Jinger and Jeremy in person? You say hi, and then what? You're not suddenly their BFF or on their Christmas card list. Just send a check, if you want to support that charity.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because there are people who want to meet them. You are more than welcome to send a check to the charity. I'm sure the children will appreciate it.

      Delete
    2. Yes, what do you get out of meeting them? How much of that $60 fee is going directly to the organization, and how much is going towards paying for the venue and any refreshments? It's always better to skip the fundraising EVENTS and focus on just the fundraising.

      Delete
    3. No, it is not better to skip EVENTS. Events are essential. Non-profits need to continually broaden their contributor lists. These types of events are created to sponsors "buy" a table and invite potential new contributors to learn about the organization. You will not get contributions by passing an envelope. Contributors need to have an emotional connection to the organization. This only comes by presenting the vision, scope and purpose of causes. This can only happen in long meetings. People don't come to long meetings, but they will come to level dinners where they are treated like a guest. You can't have longitudinal fundraising without holding EVENTS!

      Delete
    4. So, are you saying you will be sending a check?

      Delete
    5. My husband and I were involved in things like this, until we got disgusted by how much time and money is wasted by "wining and dining" donors and potential donors. The dinners and galas and fundraising parties were like social clubs, with cliques worse than high school. The focus was on "how much of a good time can we have tonight," not the charity.

      Delete
    6. I guess there are those like me who will send a check without having to go to a dinner or fundraiser. Others may need to go to an event to get excited enough about a ministry to send a check.

      Delete
  12. I would go if I was near to there then.

  13. Just down the road from where I live. And my husband told me tonight that he would take me. Got my tickets tonight.

    2. I enjoyed myself. Jeremy and Jinger and his mother visited each table. I got to talk to them for a few minutes about my Arkansas connection. And they were gracious to pose for a picture with my husband and I. The program was informativee about SWAN and included performances from some of the students and a talk from a VIP from the local public school. Our table was sponsored by a local business so I am sure what we paid went fully to the organization. These kind of fund-raising events are popular in our area.
Except for the beginning prayer, no mention was made of faith, God, etc., that I remember. They work in the public schools after all. I imagine that the people who volunteer with the students are making a difference in the lives of the students they work with.

  14. Who has this kind of money????? $550 for a table of 10? What in the world???????

    1. Corporations, businesses, foundations, etc. This is common. Everyone from christian, parochial schools and other foundations hold these kind of banquets. You need to broaden your perspective of economics and social circles.

    2. Really.... $55.00 each. Otherwise $60.0 per person

  15. I find it quite ironic Jeremy and Jinger are so vocal about this origination. (Which is for a great cause btw.)

  16. $60.00 to meet Jinger and Jeremy? Wow.

    1. Exactly. Something life giving and sustainable.

    2. That's great. I did the same thing through Samaritan's Purse for Christmas. I encourage everyone to check out their website for ways to give.

      Delete
    3. Or provide lots of other lifesaving things to many others through Samaritan's Purse. Not trying to be critical here, but Jeremy and Jinger do get paid a salary for each appearance on Counting On, as well as book royalties for Growing Up Duggar. It's not like they couldn't take care of some of this fundraising from their own funds.

      Delete
    4. Another great one to check out is Compassion International. That’s where my extra will go. Then I know I’m actually helping those truly in need...

      Delete
    5. Do you really know all that they do or contribute? I seriously doubt it. So many people who watch the show seem to feel they have the right to criticize what they do with the money they are paid for the show, books, etc. They are giving their time and we don't know what else to contribute to an organization they feel strongly about. Why do you feel that it is necessary to tear down what they are doing because it does not "fit" your efforts or endeavors with whatever you choose to support. There are many organizations that need help & support. Find yours, focus on what you can do and be thankful you can make a difference. Stop the negativity. Being kind is such a joy.

      Delete
    6. 10:53, we don't know that they aren't contributing from their own pockets, do we?

      Delete
    7. The money paid to “meet them” goes to the charity...this charity is as valid as the others mentioned here.

      Delete
    8. Actually, this charity is far more limited to a small select group than world-wide outreaches like Smaritan's Purse or Compassion International. Please do your homework.

  23. I think what these two are doing is fantastic. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on anything debatable so I feel inclined to share my thoughts. Who cares if this charity isn't super huge? All other charities and/or foundations had to start where they are too; at the beginning & at the bottom. Some become overnight successes where others are a work in progress. For the smaller ones, it takes a great deal of time, money, effort & passion for it to grow. I think it's wonderful that Jeremy and Jinger flew out to assist and support Jeremy's mom with this endeavor. Furthermore I think it's brilliant that they used their celebrity status to come meet them. What's so bad about that? Many probably attended the function because they were interested in the topic yet some probably went just to see them in person. Either way, money is being collected & donated from all and the attendees got to experience first hand the mission and goal of this program. I see it as a win-win situation. It actually saddens me to read the negative remarks about something that is created to help children/people. I could be wrong but the negative comments are probably coming from the community of ppl who dislike the Duggars. I myself have always liked them. After watching their very first televised show, I was hooked. I think all of them are an inspiration & instead of judging the family on their faults or mistakes, we should support and thank them for the good that they do. In their own way, they are trying to make the world a better place, and that comforts and makes me happy. To end my long ole rant, first.... this is my first time ever posting to a community online (I usually just read; have never commented until right now). And last, I would appreciate not having any "hate" responses regarding my personal opinion about the family in general. That has been vocalized all over the place for the past couple of years & the topic at hand should be kudos to the Vuolo's for all of their hard work, determination & love for a program created to assist children. I hope it thrives & can can make a hard life worth living. Thanks for listening & to whoever is reading this, have a blessed and awesome day :)
