Vuolos at Grace Community

Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo took a trip to Los Angeles, California, this weekend. They toured the Getty Villa and visited Grace Community, the church of world-renown pastor John MacArthur.

There, they met Pat Daly, North American manager of Banner of Truth. He told Jeremy that he would love to have him at the organization's annual Ministers' Conference, an event held every spring in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, that is focused on enriching pastors and worshiping God. As a former professional soccer player, Jeremy would be a perfect fit for the soccer match that takes place one evening of the conference. But, of course, the soccer match is not the focus of the conference.

    1. I don't think she has lost a lot she was always very petite. She is probably eating a better diet now that she is living with an ex athlete, she is probably also working out and has toned up.

    2. Maybe with so many over enthusiastic fans saying they spy a baby bump with practically every photograph posted the poor girl felt pressured to loose weight (she didn't need to). Fans need to lay off this young woman, she and her husband have made it clear they are in no rush to start a family. Jinger you are perfect as you are.

    3. Amen, 5:06! I am someone who has been thin all my life regardless of how much I eat and the comments from people are so cruel. Most people wouldn't dream of telling an over weight person that they're too fat but feel its perfectly ok to tell someone that they are too thin.

      Delete
    4. But Jinger hasn't been thin all her life. Look back before she was even courting.

      Delete
    5. You would be surprised by what people say to fat people. Either way, it hurts.

      Delete
    6. Yes I too wish I could gain at least 10 lbs but I can't. People tell me I'm skinny all the time and I have two kids.

      Delete
    7. Anon 1:56, people don't hesitate to call others fat. Believe me. Actually, if you looked into, I think you would find that more people are called fat than "thin." In this age, if you are not a perfect weight, you are majorly fat shamed. It's become and obsession to be perfectly thin and have that body image. I think if more people would call others "too thin" we would be a little better off. That's not for the women out there, however, who are healthy thin. Just those that starve themselves.

      Delete
    8. So you're saying its ok to shame someone you feel is skinny? Trust me, its not ok and can cause terrible insecurities about your worth as a person. Its not up to anyone to remind someone of their size. Do you not think we skinny gals know what we look like? I have never heard an adult tell a perfect stranger tgat tgey are fat but ive been told by people that I should go eat some cheeseburgers! Fact is, I eat a lot but cant gain. I would love to. So saying the world would be better off if we tell people they are too thin is way off base. Lets just stop the body shaming.

    3. 8:13, it may need just an observation on your part, but it's a rude one. Would you say to someone, "Looking so fat?" I think not...

    5. AMEN! We'll have trials and tribulations, but they're worth it, and our lives here on earth will be so enriched when we turn them over to God.

      Delete
    6. So why, then, does God seem to turn his back on some people and allow all this bad stuff to happen in the first place? Disease, poverty, joblessness, etc. The obituaries are full every day. Today there was a 13 year old boy there. I have yet to see God send a check to get someone out of financial problems. You talk as if all you have to do is pray and POOF, magically your troubles are over. It doesn't work that way. And don't tell me that these "tribulations" are good for your character. Character doesn't keep food on the table or a roof over your head.

  18. "The US Ministers’ Conference is an annual event where men gather from a variety of ministerial vocations to worship God and sit under the preaching of his Word." (from the Banner of Truth website) Sounds like another men's only organization, at least only men are allowed a position of authority. That alone would deter me from listening to any messages they have to preach.

    1. The Bible talks about men only being pastors, and that is why only men should be pastors. Woman can minister in other ways besides pastoring. If you don't like it, then don't listen to them.

      Delete
    2. I dont think men would want to come to a women's event.

      Delete
    3. Why does an event need to be for one specific gender???

      Delete
    4. I think you are missing the point Regina. Many denominations have female ministers/pastors who lead their congregations as well as any man can, so a ministers meeting which is men only excludeds them and almost demotes their worth. Surely those of faith, regardless of their sex, who lead people should come together not be divided. We live in the 21st century the men shouldn't be on one side and the womenfolk on the other.

      Delete
    5. Anon 12:14- In 1 Timothy it talks about men leading the church and not women because that is the special job God assigned to men. If they are truly "those of faith", then women wouldn't be pastoring.

      Delete
    6. What is the big fuss if it is men's only. Do men want to attend a women's meeting? I think not. I have no interest in a guys meeting at all. Men and women are not the same. Folks need to get use to it.

      Delete
    7. Read your Bible, folks. Woman cannot pastor a church, per the Bible. Don't blame men for following that rule. Women can lead groups of women, but they cannot pastor a church if you are following the Bible. It has nothing to do with what century we're in. The Bible doesn't change.

      Delete
    8. 12:14 PM -- God's Word says that only a man should lead a congregation. Women are free to minister to a women's group or children, but as far as leading a church, that's for men only. Doesn't matter if the year is 1417, 1817, or 2017 -- God's Word does not change.

  21. I like Jinger alot and think she's pretty, as well as enthusiastic. I'm not trying to be critical here at all, but I am a little concerned that she seems to be losing weight. Her face is looking noticeably more angular (less full) and in many pictures over the last 2-3 months, she looks disproportionate (like her head is too large for her body). Again, I'm neither criticizing or making mean comments. I'm trying to describe what I'm seeing because I am concerned. I'm sure there are pressures that go along with being on a reality TV show, maintaining a fan base, etc.(not to mention being a Pastor's wife). Given the Duggar lifestyle, there are also issues that go along with moving away from family (specifically her sisters) and adjusting to being a 2-person household rather than 21. She likely has had more adjusting to do than most young ladies. I just hope she's doing well.

    1. Perhaps it is because she is eating better- healthy food instead of the quick processed kind she grew up on and is more physically active. They run, bike and work out!

    2. Actually, I'm concerned about her weight as well. Both my sister and I struggled with eating disorders during high school and we were very good at covering it up. No one around us had a clue until we were so thin that we were threatened with hospitalization. I hope Jeremy is really paying attention.

      Delete
    3. I have to agree with you. I'm thinking there still is a learning curve cooking too.

      Delete
    4. Maybe she feels pressure to stay thin because everyone's always scrutinizing her stomach to see if she's pregnant.

      Delete
    5. She's been steadily losing weight. I'd be concerned about it, too, especially since we have all heard her mother talk about her own eating disorder.

      Delete
    6. In my later teens I had an eating disorder, which makes it sometimes possible to notice signs of eating problems more quickly than others. And with Jinger, I hate to say, but I am worried about her. She looks too thin. I can remember she once noticed she struggled with eating, her weight and her self-worth, as did Michelle. For me these are all big warning signs for developing an eating disorder. Really hope I'm wrong!

      Delete
    7. Anon4:28- There's a danger in projecting our own experiences on someone else. Just looking at photographs or video is not a good way to judge whether or not someone is suffering from an eating disorder.

      Delete
    8. @Anon7:41-(I'm Anon 4:28). You are absolutely right, projecting your own experiences on another is never good. In my opinion, I did not. I made the comment based on my degree in social work, experience with online counseling of teenagers and adults with an eating disorder and my own experience with this (experience expertise). In this case, I consider the latter to be the most valuable. In addition, I did not say that Jinger has an eating disorder, but on the basis of my knowledge and experience I see a lot of different warning signs (which may also have another cause, I hope so!). In fact, you do not see everything on photos and videos, but I did not make my previous comment if I did not notice many different signals in many different situations.

  22. I find MacArthur's teachings regarding homosexuality to be reprehensible. He refuses to acknowledge medical advances in fetal development and brain research that have helped foster a better understanding of gender and sexual orientation. We have much more to learn. To dismiss a whole group of people and churches who support them as 'of the devil' is disgusting, in my opinion.

    2. I like MacArthur's teaching. He takes everything from God's Word and teaches it the way it is written. The world tries to make issues like homosexuality as an okay thing, but it is clearly written that it is not according to the Bible, so I agree with MacArthur.

    4. I agree. We now know that people are born gay and it is not a choice. Mothers who are severely stressed during pregnancy ( among other circumstances) are more likely to have a gay child which is why, during wartime, there is a huge increase in gay people. Pastors like MacArthur are perpetuating out of date information which is quite harmful.

    11. Biblically, homosexuality is wrong. You nor anyone else can change that. During wartime you have a lot of absent fathers during instrumental development periods of a child's life. Absent or uninvolved or abusive fathers (and mothers) need to take the blame for the increase in that life choice.

    2. Uhm, unconditional love is not "having nothing but positive things to say" about your child. Unconditional loves means loving your child no mater what, but also confronting them in a loving way when they're sinning (politically correct-"making bad choices"). Because we love them and we know what they're doing will lead to harm for them, if we love them, we'll confront them with the truth. I'm not saying Jinger is sinning by wearing a dress less than knee-length or pants. Just wanted to clear up a fallacy about unconditional love. ;)

    3. anon8:42- If you are talking about minor children, I would agree. However, grown children should be given advice only if they ask for it. They don't need correcting once they become adults. You have to start trusting them to make their own decisions, especially about clothing choices. You may not agree or like it, but that's ok.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous @ 6:42- I disagree. When they become adults, my Bible tells me that they become my brothers and sisters in Christ if they're Christians. It's my responsibility to gently, lovingly, respectfully inquire about sin I'm seeing or hearing and they are to do the same for me-it goes both ways. Otherwise, I'm to do the same thing Jesus did with the woman at the well (a non-believer), I'm supposed to gently, lovingly question the behavior and motivation. Likewise, if a non-believer calls something to my attention, I should go to God and his Word and evaluate myself honestly. Hopefully, if we've done our job right as parents, we've built a relationship with our children that grows with us into adulthood and we respect each other enough to be able to be honest. It has nothing to do with whether or not we like their choices or agree with them (it's really about whether their choices please God or themselves). Your children and others are far more likely to listen, if you've built that foundation that they know you love them, good choices or not.

    1. JB has quite a laundry list of questions for his future son-in-laws. It's a safe bet that 'leaving the number of children up to God' was a topic covered. So, if Jeremy and Jinger were intending not to start a family right away and was truthful about it, there shouldn't be a problem for JB. In any event, the Vuolos are adults and should not have to answer to any other family members.

I think in all honesty, it's probably somewhat concerning to any parent to see their child develop in a different direction than what the parents may have advocated- whether they're a teenager or a married person. Although Jim Bob and Michelle have famously and publicly advocated no birth control and knee-length/collar bone/short-sleeved modesty, they have said those are their personal convictions to be fair.
