Dillards Fundraise for Missions

Cross Church College worship event at University of Arkansas
Attended by the Dillards, August 23rd

We have continued to keep you updated as the Dillards begin new ventures in ministry. Two weeks ago, we shared that Jill and Derick had become involved in leadership with the college group at Cross Church, and just a few days ago we announced Derick's enrollment in the Cross Church School of Ministry.

Derick just set up a fundraising page through a site called Pure Charity, with a donations goal of $6,500.  He says the money will enable him to fulfill his call to ministry during the upcoming year, as he is involved in the School of Ministry residency.

Derick plans to take trips for "Gospel advancement and humanitarian work in Northwest Arkansas, North America, and abroad."

  1. Without sounding sarcastic, why doesn't he use some of the funds they get from the show. My sin put himself thru university. Derek is old enough, with a wife and children to work at least part- time.

    1. Even though this coursework doesn't take up the entire week, they're supposed to be "fully immersed" in it the rest of the time, keeping them from working another job. In other words, the time to work and earn your way, both for the program and for the mission trips it involves, was before you entered. Derick sure didn't do that. Not good planning.

    2. My thoughts too. I love them all but enough is enough when my heart led me to further my education I founded it and I also had children!

  2. Whoa what a huge crowd from that picture! Many blessings on whatever God has planned for them.

  3. We discussed this in the post below. Consensus was that it was not right to ask other people for more money, even if it was a requirement of the program, when the whole family is very wealthy and still on TV. There is no excuse for this kind of begging. That $6500 is better off going to Texas flood victims who have lost everything and aren't insured.

    1. Wow, I so totally agree with you!

  4. I think that Derick has his answer from the public regarding fundraising and it is a resounding no from the majority. I think people have charity fatigue with the Dillards, you cannot keep asking for money when you are part of a TV show, live rent free in a mansion and just a few short months ago asked for $24000. The Dillards also have never accounted for any of the money people already gave them. Derick needs to get a job and gather the money together himself, instead of asking for constant handouts, I don't understand how he isn't embarrased.

    1. Some people never get embarrassed about anything.

    2. Sounds like he finally got the message and has closed his fundraiser page. You would think family and friends would have contributed the money he needed instead of asking the public yet again, maybe they are also fed up with the constant asking for handouts?

  5. There are many things many of us would do if we had "funding." Many of these would probably be great acts of service. However, if you make the decision to have a family, you must find a way to support them. This man has no formal education to justify asking for funding for his works. If he now wants to become trained to do ministry or mission work, he needs to pay for it privately. After he becomes trained and gets a formal position, funding requests are appropriate. This is a rare duggar false move into greed. We all sacrifice for our passion projects.

  6. Derick is going to be doing something that transcends space and time?

  7. What has he been doing since they got back to the US? He could have worked all summer and easily made that much money. He could have worked for JB and still hve been around to help with the kids. Aren't there Bible verses that tell us we have to work for what we want?

  8. There is nothing humble or Christian about this family anymore. Everything they do is in pursuit of easy money through their reality TV show (desperately campaigning to keep it on the air) and related pursuits (endless magazine stories, websites, cash grabs, freebies, fundraising requests, etc.). They are not content to live a humble honest life while just happening to be followed by TV cameras. They are professional reality stars, plain and simple. Worse, they pretend to be something else.

  9. I cannot support Derick's continual requests for financial support to achieve his personal goals. It is time he paid for his own financial needs irregardless of ministry work. Eileen

  10. They spent the spring going to Silver Dollar City, and now they need $6500? Something doesn't add up.

  11. Personally I think it's fine for Derek to ask for donations as long as he is being honest about what it's for. People can decide if they feel it is a good cause and if they can afford a donation.

    1. Exactly! No harm in asking. The people that feel they want to line up with his vision can give, the others don't have to.

  12. I just noticed that you did not include a link to the fundraiser. Thank you for not exploiting your readership.

  13. I love this family, but have to agree on this....All of my 4 children worked full time with familes an coined college on their own dime

  14. This is how mission work goes. Usually they get financial support from churches or individuals who want to support his mission. If people want to give or not is up to the reader. That's how it has always been done.

    1. Normally missionaries go on deputation. They don't set up a fundraiser page. They go to different churches and present their ministry and ask to be taking on as a missionary. They also get love offerings. They raise their support normally before going to the mission field.

  15. There is a lot of people, organizations, businesses or whatever that will ask for financial help for a cause. It's totally up to you what you want to do. You just simply say yes or no...Jane

  16. I sincerely hope that Derick is able to see these comments. He needs a huge reality check. His future is his responsibility. Time to man up and finance his own choices

  17. Texas is in need of help. Maybe they can send donations there too

  18. "Dillards Fundraise for Houston" would be a more welcome post.

  19. I think you can work a job to support your family and still spread the gospel to others at the same time. No need to ask for donations....especially when there are a lot of people suffering right now. I believe God wants men to work and support their own families.

  20. I think that many of the people responding don't understand certain things. He is preparing to do the work that many can't.

  21. Keep up the good work. You have chosen a life that is not easy. All you can do is pray, hear, and do what is asked by the Almighty. If you are following him don't get deterred by people who doubt you because they will always be there.

  22. They are on TV which provides a good income. This fundraising is unnecessary.

  23. The money is for MISSIONS!!!!!! 6,500 is not enough to support the dilllard family in ways of housing, food etc. It's so that they can be missionaries for Christ.

    1. Missions serve missionaries, not others.

    2. Honestly though, I am being sincere here because this is not something I am familiar with. WHAT does the money spent for "missionaries for Christ" get used for? Bibles/tracts? Medicine for the sick? Food for the hungry? Shelter for the homeless? Airfare to the mission location? Church electricity bill? D. Dillard has given no specifics. Am I missing something obvious here?

    3. The money was for Derek to go to school for a year, not for a mission. It was an illegal use of a 503c charity so the link was removed.

  24. I have always loved the Duggars. I really have......but I'm so shocked by the Dillards continual asking for donations! I find it a bit disheartening 😕

  25. I used to like this family. I think they just don't get how they are alienating people. They are asking for funding from people who have much less than they have. How about going back to seeing the real world?

    ReplyDelete
  26. They have closed the fund raiser after only raising $125.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is so disappointing. What exactly does "fulfill his ministry" mean? I'm sure I would have more time to devote to prayer and ministry if somebody gave me thousands of dollars, too, but I go to work for a paycheck every day to support myself instead of asking for handouts.

  28. Derick has an undergrad degree. Why can't he do his ministry education and work at the same. Many people with families actually go to school and work. He needs to stop asking for donations and fund his own personal growth like everyone else does.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Will Derick D. share with us why he ended the fundraiser? Or just pretend it never happened?

IMO he needs to be more open with the public if he expects to get financial backing from his fans. If he does not want to be transparent (totally fine and his right) then he needs to back-off on this sort of activity or it's going to backfire.

  30. After raising $125 from two donations, it looks like the church has shut down the page. Maybe you should delete this whole post, too.

    1. Why delete the post, just because it gets deleted does not mean it didn't happen. People have long memories I don't think it will be forgotten any time soon, I really hope Derick and the rest of the family have learned a lesson from this.

  31. I'm with the others, I love all the diggers but it is time for derrick to be supporting his family Andrew his personal holes himself now, I do not feel it right for him to be asking for money to achieve his hole that he MAY go on to do this work in the future. They closed the account for what 4weeks? Before he is asking for more money. How is he keeping his wife and two children? If I was to go to university I wouldn't have to get lines so deal with it!

  32. I believe they've closed the fundraiser due to negative feedback. Yes we all wish we could follow passions with funding. I agree with anon 1:41. This man should work and support his family and save money for mission trips or something. We all have to support the families we choose to have and save money for hobbies...

    1. According to the fundraising charity they closed it due the terms of their agreement/rules being broken and they have reported it to cross church.

    2. Because you cannot ask for money for a 503c for personal use, an education is personal use.
