Izzy and Spurgie

It seems like just yesterday when the Seewalds and Dillards welcomed their first children into the world. If you have been a long-time reader of our blog, you probably remember seeing baby pictures of both Israel Dillard and Spurgeon Seewald.

Well, each of those boys now has a younger brother and is no longer a baby. These new pictures show just how much cousins Israel and Spurgeon have grown! (For those wondering, the wooden toys that Spurgeon is playing with were purchased used for less than $30 at Rhea Lana's children's consignment event. They were a gift from Jessa's family.)

For those who haven't heard, Jill and Derick are now doing college ministry with the church where their wedding took place. (Click here for details.)

  1. Those nicknames! If they are calling their sons Izzy & Spurgie, why didn't they just give them shorter names in the first place? John, Eric, Adam, Paul....

    1. There's nothing wrong with having a nickname. I have two names and my family never calls be by my full first name.

    2. Izzy and Spurgie sound like what you'd call your pet.

    5. Totally agree! If the family keeps using those silly nicknames, those poor boys are going to hate it in a couple of years.

    6. because those names are overused and unoriginal

    7. Those nicknames are totally fine and great!!! I have an Alexandria we call her Lexie, Midge, and Lou or Lexie Lou or LouLou we NEVER call her Alexandria (well I do when I am upset with her) pretty sure she will turn out to be a fine adult with neat nicknames!!!

    8. Actually, the angle of this particular picture makes it less noticeable. If you click on the picture to enlarge it and look at it closely, you'll see that his left eye does indeed turn in ever so slightly (there's less white space between the iris-the colored part- and his nose on the left side, than of his right eye). If you look at various pictures of Israel at different events, you'll see it. It's not uncommon at all. Irregardless, Israel's absolutely adorable! :) :)

    9. Whaaaat...seriously are you scrutinizing a child looks...what is wrong with you

    10. Because they knew you needed something to criticize them for...

  2. Oh, good. Israel's eye looks perfectly fine, so people can stop worrying about it. And doesn't he look so old?? They get big way too fast.

  3. Israel looks so much like his mom. Oh my goodness. He and Spurgeon are both cuties.

  4. Spurgie: If I ignore my paparazzi parents maybe they will put the camera away and let me play in peace.

Izzy:Now I know where to stuff things when I have to clean my room!

Me: They have grown up so much. It's hard to believe they aren't babies anymore.

  5. Do you really think anyone is wondering where those toys came from? You guys have gotten too commercialized!!

    1. If they didn't put that someone would gripe that those toys looked expensive and that the Duggars don't but used anymore.

    2. I think they do that because so many people complain about how they spend their money

      Delete
    3. Agreed!! Because you can d them almost anywhere! On line or cute little shops like my town has. They sell these very toys in one cute little downtown shop.

  6. Cute toys! Sweet babies. My own little boy is two as well! Today he rode a balance bike off the trampoline!! It's such a busy, crazy but fun age.

  7. Pretty sure she was being proactive about explaining what seems to be an expensive purchase to a public who seems to feel entitled to monitoring and criticizing the Duggars'spending. Most moms today know wooden toys are CRAZY expensive in a typical retail store. If the bloggers hadn't mentioned that they were gifted and thrifted, they would have been flooded with comments about how "it must be nice to be reality stars and get to spend whatever money you want on your children". Smart move, I thought.

    1. Actually, I think money spent on good developmental toys as children grow is money well spent. Better than constant coffee or taco or chicken sandwich purchases on "date nights." And you sure can "buy used" on toys, unlike those other things.

I'd like to fiddle around with that toy with all the hardware. That would have been right up my alley as a kid. My favorite toy was a set of gears!

    2. Sadly Elizabeth it's true. Someone was whining about one of the couples going to visit their friends and another going to a convention. Some people just don't have anything better to do.

    3. I agree. So many negative nancies on here. Always trying to make mountains out of mole hills, with this family.RIDICULOUS!

    4. Yep. Also, if they are planning on having a large family, they would actually save money anyway purchasing wooden toys that LAST rather than the cheap plastic toys that last a few weeks. Sad/ironic to see comments on their toys - too bad people don't judge their own spending as harshly as they judge the Duggars'.

      Delete
    5. But who gives a gift then tells you how much they spent on it?

      Delete
    6. Maybe they bought the toys w/ Ben & Jessa along. Or maybe it was just something they picked up and were telling Ben & Jessa what a good deal they got. That's something you can do with close family without being rude about it.

    2. You can tell by their behavior. Spurgeon was a much happier baby/toddler than Israel. One part of a show really bothered me. The Jill/Derick anniversary in central America. 1st.. Derick fusses about Israel having to be there, and then Israel whines through their meal because he smells that food and is of age to eat some of the items, and they didn't want to feed him. At their place she concocted this nasty stuff and fed it to him. Sad

  11. Wonder why they give the boys the names then find shorter ones to go by. If so Izzy and Spurgie sounds like fish or turtle names. I bet those boys will not a want to be called those names yuck!

    1. My son and daughter-in-law, first picked a nickname for theirs daughters, than picked their real name. I quess you could say they did it backwards...Jane

    2. Did you not have a nickname when you were little? Almost all of our children have them. Our youngest boy was given the nickname Bubba by his older brother when he was born, and he is still called that 4 years later. Nothing wrong with nick names.

    3. I'm a Duggar Fan but I do have to agree on the nicknames Izzy and Spurgie. They aren't my favorite and I can't imagine the boys wanting to be called that when they're older. Spurgie is just not a name to begin with, using Spurgeon is better than Spurgie. Wish they would have considered another name for him. It just hasn't grown on me. He's such a beautiful kid tho! Izzy makes me feel dizzy and think of the name Isabelle rather. It's hard naming kids but I think you have to think long-term for a name and consider proper nick-names.

  12. Lily and Ellie, I would just like to say thank you to the both of you for working so hard on this blog and the Bate's family blog. Between the negative Nancy's, trolls and nay-sayers, it must feel exhausting sometimes. Just know that there are a lot of readers who appreciate you and your efforts to run such nice blogs on two good Christian families.

    1. I second this! It probably is discouraging to have so many people post unkind things. Do you really have to post that stuff?

    2. I think the admin do a good job of keeping the blog balanced with opinions. Not everyone (even fans) are always going to agree with the family, and some posts from fans can be very judgemental and rude.

  13. Lily and Ellie,
I agree with Anon August 21st @ 11:43 AM. I appreciate all you do for this blog. Just don't let the negative people get you down. Just take a deep breath and say a prayer for them. And remember the familiar passage of scripture in Philippians 4:8-"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things."

I hope this encourages you ladies! Have a blessed week!

  15. The Duggar family needs to keep being an example for mankind until the last hater stops hating. We need to pray for the haters if they had a true relationship with God, they would not be haters. Keep being an excellent example for society Duggar clan. Those of us who have a healthy relationship with God can understand exactly why you live the way you do. Thank you for not giving up. No doubt God is pleased with you.
