Season Finale Airs Monday

We have some good news and some not-to-good news. Let's start with the not-so-good news. Monday's new episode of Counting On will be the season finale. Isn't that too bad? But the good news is that TLC is rerunning all six shows that have aired so far this season, followed by the two-hour season finale featuring John Duggar and Abbie Burnett's wedding. (Full TV listings can be found on our Showtimes page.)

The network has not yet set a start date for the next season, but rest assured that the Duggars are still filming.

    1. They decided to step back from the show and I don’t ever expect for them to return

    2. Yes, I would love to see Jill and her family again, but it's probably unlikely. Derrick does not want to be a part of the show, and I'm sure Jill will not participate if her husband is unwilling.

    3. To see Jill and her family would go against Derick's wishes. You wouldn't want to do that would you.

    4. Jill and hee family will not be on the show, they quit.

    5. They did not quit they were fired, that is 100% positive, yes I am a Duggar fan too

    6. @11:46 I've seen work situations where one party says you're fired and the other party says no, you can't fire me, I'm quitting. Both can happen at once.

    1. Why? Tons of people evidently still like to watch the show, and the Duggars obviously like to be filmed. If you don’t like the show don’t watch it, there are enough fans without you to keep its ratings from falling.

      Delete
    2. Why do you care then that it is keeping on, because there’s no obligation to watch if you don’t like to...?

      Delete
    3. 🙄 A lot of people just say stuff to get a rise out of others. They get a kick out of seeing how you'll react.

      Delete
    4. It would be better for children in that family, if the show was cancelled. They could then grow up with a degree of privacy and not have their every move commented on.

      Delete
  6. I've enjoyed the show all the way back to "14 kids and counting", however I wish this show " Counting On" was more current. By the time the shows air, it's old news. I would love to see your guys continue, but could we have more current viewing.

    1. I’d like that too, but sadly this is how most reality tv shows work.

    2. I agree, especially when they repeat episodes like Jinger's birth episode and John's wedding from the previous season.

      Delete
    3. They aren't repeating birth and wedding episodes. TLC used to wait and show those things in chronological order. Fans complained that it took too long to see these special events. So with Jinger's wedding, they started showing a short "highlight" of the event shortly after it happens. Then the full thing is shown during the season with much more footage.

      Delete
    4. They don't film enough episodes in one season. Would love it if they would catch up to where they are in real life also, instead of seeing old news. Been watching this family for a long time. Absolutely love each and every one of them!! For those of you that dislike this family so much, please keep your rude comments to yourself and don't watch the show!! It's as simple as that!!

  7. You don’t film enough shows in a season for me!!! Lol. So glad you are returning. I feel like you are family!

  8. So will Jana finally announce that she is in a courtship
    Or engaged?

    1. Why does it matter to you? She might not ever get married and that is completely fine.

      Delete
    2. Would you want her to get into a relationship because everyone else thought it was time...or when she is ready and meets the right one.

      Delete
    3. No she won’t. Jessa is pregnant so that will be the same finale announcement. She had the same due date as Lauren so back then she would’ve known she was pregnant

  9. Happy to hear they're still filming. The seasons are so short!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hmm, sounds like good news for us fans. For a while there were no reruns and then only a few. If they are having a mini marathon maybe things are turning around. Plus they are saying right away now that they are returning. Maybe next the seasons will slowly start rt get longer as well.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah I’m hoping next season will be longer and that they’ll be able to catch up a bit. Even if they’re only like two months off from real time it would be nice.

      Delete
    2. The way the shows have been shown I would expect the next season to be air late summer into early fall so thats at least 5-6 months away. I doubt it will be any longer either, as TLC doesn't seem to spend the money it once did on the show. Also both the Duggars who appear and TLC put so much info out on social media and teaser clips by the time it airs it feels like you've already watched, for example I'm sure next season will cover John and Abbies wedding (again) and their honeymoon, we already know they went to Finland, have seen pictures and TLC will post clips, so its nothing new. The show is stale, and I think its time for TLC to admit its time to end it, except maybe for the odd catch up special.

    1. Josh is never coming back to the show, he made huge mistakes and while he can be forgiven there are still big consequences to them. As for Anna and the kids, while I would love to see them on the show, I think Ana has stepped back to keep them out of the spotlight, they’ve had enough information personal to them released to the public with everything Josh did and it’s going to follow them always.

  15. They never told what the big surprise was?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think at the end of the wedding season finale they’re going to announce it. And it’s not going to be the Jana is courting because she would have told her family that before the camera crew. I’m still guessing that it’s when Jessa and Ben announce that they’re having another baby.

      Delete
    2. I know. Rather disappointing that they get us thinking there’s some big news, but then don’t have any... 🙁

      Delete
    3. It's still ahead. John's wedding was at the beginning of November, and Jessa was pregnant at that time already. Maybe they announced her pregnancy at Spurgeon's 3rd birthday?
Or maybe as it's been talked about in the media, Kendra's sister will be courting Jason?

      Delete
    4. Jessa is pregnant, that is the announcement. I don’t see the big hype about it since we have known for months so it’s not even half a surprise. Abit wrong to keep teasing Jana for views when she hasn’t met her mr right yet

      Delete
    5. I previously posted that people should not trust the teasers because most shows exaggerate to keep viewers interested. Now, I guess I am gullible because now I am even starting to think there might be something up with Jana. Did anyone notice the pop up wedding episode and the hints or teasers about Jana? I know Jessa was probably just teasing Jana but what got me is a bit later they asked about news and Jessa made the teasing joke about you never know and then they showed a quick clip of Jana. Would the producers really have teased something for Jana so blatantly if she wasn't at least in the early stages of a relationship? Not sure... I don't think a big announcement will come right away but maybe a relationship is in the early stages. Or maybe, I am just being gullible. :)

      Delete
    6. Doubt it is Jana courting. The family, especially the parents, would not be in the dark about that. They keep a close rein on the unmarried girls. So.. "telling her family before the camera crew" makes no sense.

      Delete
    7. The surprise is that there is no surprise.

    1. yes, and they are showing more of the rest of the family now too. Things are slowly starting to improve and get back to the way they were. Now they just have to make the seasons longer!

      Delete
    2. I agree. I stopped watching shortly after they changed it to Counting On. The attraction for me was the entire family. I keep up with them here on DFB now.

      Delete
    3. I think many of us miss the original series about a supersized family and how they managed life. Even if there had not been events that caused cancellation, the show would be very different today. The kids have grown up, Michelle is no longer having babies, the married couples have to work and raise their own children. I wonder if the show, filming and public exposure is holding any of them back from personal goals and dreams. Counting On is a different show and attracts a different audience. There was something very interesting and unique about a family with 19 kids. I like Counting On, it just hasn't filled the shoes of the original show.

      Delete
    4. Anon 8:06 I agree with you about missing the older show when it was Michelle and Jim Bob and the children. I don't watch the new show but pop in on this blog off and on to see what is going on. I don't understand why it is mostly weddings, honeymoons, labor and birth that seems to be filmed. I get the impression that they are just being filmed anymore to have TLC pay for the expenses for these events. What do they do for a living? I never see anything posted about where they have steady jobs or if the adult kids have businesses etc. It seems so confusing because they seem to be portrayed as adults that just hang around home all day and then fly off for vacations now and then. This kind of life isn't realistic to us and would not work in the real world.

      Delete
    5. The dream for the women is to get married and have a lot of children. The men work in one of Jim Bob's businesses or do what another brother is doing. The show isn't holding anyone back. Viewers would love to see a Duggar pursue a personal goal or dream that is outside the usual path for this family!

      Delete
  21. Only 6 shows? Wow, TLC must have allotted them a small budget.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Or the number of viewers are dwindling and TLC isn't sure how much longer they will be airing the Duggars.

  22. I'm happy they are coming back on....I like to see all of them on there....

  23. I'm glad they will be returning. I don't understand why the seasons are so short though. I pay to watch through Amazon Prime Video and we don't always get the extra stuff that shows on TLC or the TLC Go app. I wish TLC would reconsider how they format the episodes. Constant repeating scenes takes away from the episode where they can show new content. As much as I love the weddings, I would like to see the courtship first, then the wedding. The questions and answers scenes where they ask questions even the average person wouldn't know the answer could also be eliminated. I think Duggar fans want to see more of everyday living, missions, courtships, Jana's garden, work, etc. Still,I'm glad they'll be coming back and I'll be paying to watch. I love this family and their values.

    1. Thank you Diana. My sentiments exactly.

Six episodes is hardly a full season. Counting On is the only show that I actually watch on TV (everything else I watch is through NetFlix) and now it's already over. And I didn't even get to see any new news (like the birth of Jessa's baby).

I am also glad that you mentioned the show's format. I am not crazy about how the show is formatted either. I really dislike how ,before cutting to a commercial, they play the upcoming scene. Aren't we going to be watching that scene in a few minutes anyhow? It totally takes away from the surprise factor.

      Delete
    2. That's one of the reasons I don't watch anymore -- too many repeat scenes. Not enough interesting content to fill a show, I guess? I'd like to see more Jim Bob and Michelle and the younger kids.

  26. I just can't believe they are only showing 6 episodes. That is not a "season" at all. They also never said what the big surprise was. It kind of feels like something might be going on. I do hope they come back and soon.

12 episodes per season with 3 seasons, 6 weeks off between each season seems reasonable.

  29. I'm really disappointed that the season will be ending already. I was hoping that after a few more episodes the show would be up to date to what is happening now. I wanted to find out the sex of Jessa's baby, and watch her give birth in June. And I was really hoping to hear about some more courting (Jana) and pregnancy announcements.

I would love to be surprised after watching an episode, instead of hearing about stuff that already happened in their lives. I would love to hear about some actual news on the show.

  33. I'm surprised they rerun John's wedding because we already saw it. We also saw Jinger's birth episode in the previous season. I love Counting On, I just wish the episodes were showing some new stuff. This season we were watching some cake making for a whole hour, then food shopping by Ben, like it's fun, but is it so really important?
I would be more interested in what older boys are doing now, are they working, dating? Where Joseph and Josiah work? What Lauren does all days now when she is married? Does Michelle homeschool her kids or someone else is helping her?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. John and Abbie's wedding, is not actually a rerun. TLC previously aired the short version of the wedding, at the tale end, of the previous season. The season finale, will be a two-hour version, of this event, and will include extra footage.

      Delete
    2. Where the Duggar boys work? It's well known they ALL work for JB. The twins (Jed and Jer) are old enough to court. It would be a blast if they were dating twins.

      Delete
    3. In the beginning, when the surprise announcement was teased, I predicted that the twins would be courting twins. I’m sticking with that prediction.

  34. Next season on Counting On:
    - Jessa's pregnancy
    - Josiah&Lauren are pregnant again
    - John&Abbie's honeymoon in Finland
    - Older boys start courting (Jed, Jer, Jason)
    - Anna announces another pregnancy
    - Jinger&Jeremy are moving to LA

    5. I'm thinking that before 2019 is over, these ladies will be pregnant: Jessa-of course, Anna, Abbie, Jill, Kendra, Lauren, Joy. I'm hoping for courtships/engagements and possibly weddings for: Jana, Jed, Jer, Jason. I doubt that Jinger will have another baby until Felicity is at least two, maybe three.

    6. I'm not sure about the move to LA. The rest is pretty likely.

    7. LA...yuck.. They got Typhus and all sorts of garbage in LA unless they stay far away from the city. Not good for a family with a baby

      Delete
    8. Yeah. Four pregnancies definitely. I'm not sure about Jill because Derrick is still in law school. Kendra and Joy are also possibilities which ups it to 6 or 7.

      Delete
    9. How did you know about the LA move. Or was it just a guess?

      Delete
    10. 9:33 -- The city of Los Angeles is 470 square miles. You could drive for well over an hour from one end to another and never leave the city. The unfortunate typhus problem is Downtown. Plenty of babies are thriving here. If the Vuolos came to LA, they would probably attend John MacArthur's church, unless Jeremy had plans to start his own church?

      Delete
    11. Jinger and Jeremy announced today that they are moving to LA so you are right about that.

      Delete
    12. Who couldn't see that move coming, with all the time he spent out there and how they never seemed too happy in TX. But the program he's gotten himself involved with.... You can read the headlines for yourself.

    13. Excellent comment, 4:23! LA can be a wonderful place to raise children. There are so many diverse neighborhoods in the city and smaller cities within LA county that practically anyone can find a place to be comfortable and call home. I'm excited that they will get to experience the culture of a big city as well as what the surrounding area has to offer.
Jeremy and Jinger did say the plan to join MacArthur's church while he attends the Masters Seminary.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think it would be interesting to follow Jana through her day from the time she gets up to when her day closes. We've seen lots of courtships, weddings, births, and babies- been there, done that. Jana's in a unique position in a large family situation, as a single young lady. The vast majority of fans and viewers would like what that translates to. I'm thinking that might be considered a ministry/encouragement of s different and equally important kind. I'm sure Jana does so much more on a daily basis than staged story lines like building a set for Abbie to try on wedding dresses. Judging by what I read here on a regular basis, the audience is growing a little weary of 1000+ guest weddings and honeymoon shoots, followed by courtship stories. The show offers very little for single audience members/fans. We're always told how much the Duggars "appreciate" Jana, but the show format is that she's less important because she's not married. TLC and the Duggars need to up their game- if she's the strong, capable woman we've been told she is, then she's the kind of role model young ladies/single ladies of all ages need to be seeing regularly on the show.

    1. Good points, 5:41! I'm single and I'd like to see a typical day in the life of Jana.

    2. I totally agree!! Everyone needs to leave her alone about not courting and getting married!! The right man will come along!! I would rather see clips about some of her daily activities instead of everyone coming down on her!! Love seeing what's going on with the younger children. Does anyone know how Josie is doing or if she is still having seizures?

      Delete
    3. If they showed us Jana's day, it would be as scripted as the rest of the show. They could have her doing anything to make you believe that's what her "typical" day is like.

  42. This season was boring, boring. & boring!! The format is so ridiculous. Can’t TLC show events closer to actual time- like 3-4 weeks ahead instead of months and months??? I would like more Jana and her day to be shown.

    1. Saw it coming ages ago. It was clear Jeremy wanted to move on to bigger things.

I don't know how Jinger is going to hack it there. She once said she wanted big city life, but I don't think Los Angeles is going to be her vibe. Traffic and cost of living are two things that come to mind immediately. Then you have the fact that there are far more registered Democrats than Republicans. Government decisions and elections are not going to go Jinger's way. It's definitely not Arkansas.

I hope they take the cat and not turn it over to a shelter. Poor thing has been thinking that he found his fur-ever home.

  47. Ok here it goes...I love the family but have to be honest. This season was a total snoozefest!! It seems like for the past few years I keep hoping the seasons will get better but they disappoint more. And only 6 episodes!?!? The groom's cake that they didn't even want to use in the wedding was the silliest episode yet. Do they not have any material worth recording anymore? I wish they would catch the show up and put some time and effort into it and show some real emotion not so rehearsed. If the show is going to keep being boring I would like to see them cancel it and do a spin off with Jinger and Jeremy. At least they are doing things with their life

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unknown- What you see is about as good as it will get. They are ordinary people, not actors. They cannot feign emotion. If anyone of us were filmed during the course of our daily lives, it would be a snoozefest for everyone else to watch. The orignal appeal of the show, at least for me, was to see how this gigantic family managed with so many kids. That ship sailed a long time ago and they're trying too hard to bring it back, IMO.

      Delete
    2. My life wouldn't be a snooze-fest, unfortunately. LOL Our running joke is that we should go on Dr. Phil and at least get paid for all the extended family drama we deal with from both sides of the family on a regular basis. ;) Between that, the landlord wanting to show our apartment (we've become the "model apartment" because we actually keep house), homeschooling, and ongoing medical issues, we'd love to have a snooze-fest (aka "normal") life.
