The Future Mr. and Mrs. John Duggar

It has been more than nine weeks since John-David Duggar proposed to girlfriend Abbie Burnett, which means that wedding bells will soon be ringing. As with past weddings, the Duggars have chosen not to publicly announce the wedding date. When do you predict John and Abbie will become husband and wife?

Between Josh and Anna Duggar (September 26th--they just celebrated 10 years!), Jessa and Ben Seewald (November 1st), and Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo (November 5th), fall weddings have become quite common among the Duggar couples. John will be the eighth of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 19 children to get married--four boys and four girls.

  3. My guess is October 20th. That way, the Bates can come since Josie is getting married October 5th. :) Actually, either 10/20 or they are getting married as we speak... :) Either way, all God's best to Jon and Abbie - so happy for them!

    4. The original poster, is referring to 19-year-old Josie Bates, who is about to marry a guy named Kelton.

    5. Don’t be so silly. The OP meant Josie Bates.

      Delete
    6. Oh for Pete's sake, of course I meant Josie BATES. Everybody knows the Duggars and Bates are great friends and usually go to each other's weddings. Also, most people who follow the Duggars also follow the Bates so they would know about the events in both families. T.H.I.N.K.

    7. Josie Duggar is too little to marry yet. Pretty sure its Josie Bates.

      Delete
    8. I can't believe Josie Duggar is getting married. My, how time flies. Seems like yesterday she was just a youngster singing the national anthem. Wish her the best.

      Delete
    9. Anonymous 6:42 I don’t follow the Bates, just the Duggars. You are incorrect when you say “most” follow both families. Your statement T.H.I.N.K. is just plain rude.

      Delete
    10. Well, Anonymous 3:46, even if you only follow the Duggars, you know that Josie Duggar is still just a little girl and not even close to the marrying age. So, to even suggest that Josie Duggar is getting married, is ridiculous. Sorry you feel that T.H.I.N.K. is just plain rude, but if more people would actually T.H.I.N.K., we wouldn't have as many just plain absurd posts now would we? BTW, you should follow the Bates too. They're just as awesome as the Duggars!

    1. I was thinking the same thing.

    2. I think its great that these two adults have chosen to trust themselves enough to show affection to each other with real hugs and not any of the no hand holding or kissing before marriage. I know they say that each couple chooses their own rules but I wonder how true that is and that it is more parental expectation, and the need to keep up appearances for the show? Regardless I am pleased for John David I think he and Abbie are well matched and will be really happy together.

      Delete
    3. I was going to write the same exact thing! I am glad they are doing what they want to though. Side hugs are crazy when it is your fiancee.

      Delete
    4. It may not be a side hug, but look how reluctant John David is to have anything but the tippy tips of his fingers touching her.

      Delete
    5. Oh come on I’m sure he is pushing 30 or late twenties let the young man have a full frontal hug

      Delete
    6. I understand each Duggar couple sets their own rules for their courtship and engagement, at the inception of their courtship. So maybe they aren't breaking rules after all.

    1. Possibly, but winter is when Carlin Bates will likely have HER wedding, she just announced her engagement last week. I think John and Abbie's wedding will probably be in mid to late November. That would be about a 4 month engagement, and that would be similar to Josiah in officially courting for mere weeks, but being engaged for a tad longer than other Duggars.

      Delete
    2. Since John David announced his engagement first it would be Carlin that would need to work around John's wedding if she didn't want to have it around the same time.

    1. Why would curly hair mean anything? My niece has very curly hair and she is German. Her sister and brother have straight hair

    8. It's not a perm. Curly hair runs in her family. Many of her siblings have curly hair.

      Delete
    9. Many of the Duggar siblings also had curly hair....because they permed it. Sheesh.

      Delete
    10. 9:06--I cannot believe you actually said that!! You think she would straighten her hair?? Abby has very beautiful naturally curly hair. It is actually very gorgeous because naturally curly hair is not often so uniform. The way she does it is also very becoming and pretty.

      Delete
    11. I absolutely love her curly hair. It fits her beautiful face that shows off that wonderful smile. Keep the curls, Abbie! You are gorgeous!

      Delete
    12. Love her hair! Why would she straighten it? Didn't God make it perfect?

      Delete
    13. That isn't perm hair. It's curly from the roots. Those tight-rolled '80s-style perms the Duggars used to rock do not look like natural curls at all. I have always envied curly hair and think Abbie's is beautiful. I also love that she comes across as an adult rather than a bashful little girl. Good for her.

      Delete
    20. Beautiful curls. Don't change, Abby.

      Delete
    21. Her curls look great on her. The whole having to have a hair style that's "in" and constantly having to change your hair to look like what someone else says it should look like seems kind of pointless. Just think of the hair styles from decades past that we make fun of now. I say wear your hair however it looks good on you. And in Abby's case, her curls suit her.

    22. I hate to say it; but look close-those curls are from a perm! Still very pretty!

  16. I think November. They will have a mid-air ceremony while skydiving. Jeremy will perform the ceremony, after taking lessons in skydiving. Color coordinated parachutes in colors of peach and moss-green. There will be a reception waiting on the field where they land. Tater-tot casserole and chocolate messes will be served. Spurgeon will be ring-bearer and Meredith the flower-girl. Matching socks on all the groomsmen.

    3. Nope, no Tater-Tot Casserole. The Duggars don't serve actual entrees at receptions, usually just desserts.

      Delete
    4. 9:19 this wedding will most likely be put on by Abbie's parents so perhaps there will be real food instead of just desserts. One can hope!

      Delete
    5. I made their tater-tot casserole recipe awhile back, it was good! Even better the second time I made it, I changed up some spices. I had never even heard of it before the Duggars show. It seems everybody I know now is surprised Id never had it. I guess its a church thing, I wasnt raised going to church. Well now I am a Christian. BTW,I like almost all their recipes, including Tatertot casserole.. I would have no problem having it served at my wedding. Incidentally, Ive been to lots of weddings that just serve cake, usually afternoon weddings. I think its silly the way people spend so much and even take on debt to have weddings beyond their means. Simple is nice!

      Delete
    6. Tater-tot casserole is a great way to feed a crowd. Love it!

      Delete
    7. Anonymous 1:28, Duggar weddings are large, can you imagine how much space you would need to serve a sit down meal to 1100 guests....are you paying for the food?

      Delete
    8. 9:59 There are healthier versions of this casserole. You don't have to use canned soups for it, but make your own cream of mushroom. It's easy and tastes much better.

      Delete
    9. Anybody else feels its fair to saddle Abbie's family with the expense of 1000+ guests just because Duggar weddings are huge? How fair was that to Anna's, Kendra's, or Lauren's families? I'm curious what IBLP/ATI fathers do for a living, since all the Duggar guys seem to marry girls that can afford big weddings. I know family and friends pitch in and make some of the food, but for 1000+ guests that has to cost somebody quite a bit of money.

      Delete
    10. Maybe a hot air balloon. That would be really different. The chocolate messes sounds just right too.

      Delete
    11. A lot of people just have cake and punch. Wedding receptions don't have to be extravagant. Weddings have gotten so out of hand. A lot of people feel pressure to spend more than they can really afford to. So much stress and expense.

      Delete
    12. Scuba diving. Underwater ceremony. Jeremy will perform the ceremony, after taking scuba instruction. Reception on a waiting boat. Tater-tot casserole, pickles, and chocolate messes will be served. 25 bridesmaids and 25 groomsmen, all with matching socks.

      Delete
    13. When you think about it, 1000 guests isn't really a lot for them. Think about it this way, it's just 50 families with an average of 20 members per family. But I agree, a sit down dinner would be too unwieldy with such a large number of guests. I would do just cake.

  23. With all due respect why be so secretive it’s just a wedding date I can understand not sharing the location but it’s just a date a while back they were more humble and shared more now everything is a secret knowing people will ask or want to know if u don’t wanna share the date why even announce courtship just court and date like regular folks and post pics aftwerwards like we all do .still love them but enough of not sharing info their wedding is the same as all of us that are not on reality tv much love to the happy couple ❤️

    1. I don't think humility has anything to do with it. It definitely seems like a security or privacy measure.

      Delete
    2. And we need to know the date why??

      Delete
    3. I completely agree with you about the date being a secret. don't know what the big deal is as you have to announce the date to get people to come. Also what happened to the side hug rule? Did that get ditched for the oldest Duggar boy? I sure hope Jana finds a man that deserves her if that is her desire. Must be hard seeing all your younger siblings get married.

      Delete
    4. I think it's perfectly legit to announce their engagement, but not share the date with the world. How weird would it be if they didn't announce the courtship and then posted pictures afterward? You don't think that would also be keeping a secret?

      Delete
    5. It is possible to make an educated guess on wedding location with very little other info (especially if you know the date). Uninvited people did crash one of the earlier Duggar weddings, so they have to be more careful. It's a security thing.

      Delete
    6. They always have plenty of security. There's no need to hide. What's the worst that can happen? Someone takes a picture outside the church. Horrors.

      Delete
    7. Just court ,get married and announce it like we all do ..if they wanna share the details like we all do they can if they don’t wanna share the details like we all do again they don’t have to they give out info And then say they chose not to share the date or location why announce it then if u know People like to know like people like to know when others get married just get married and post the info if u want but if they know they not gonna give out more info quit announcing it their wedding is just as important as others no shade just speaking much love to them ❤️

      Delete
    8. Why do you need to know the date so badly?

      Delete
    9. I absolutely despise, “Guess the Wedding Day.” To me, it feels like they are saying “You fans are not important enough to be in on the wedding date, but maybe while the rest of us are busy with preparations to attend, you can amuse yourselves by guessing the date”

      Delete
    10. It’s fine if they don’t announce it, but don’t suggest we should guess the date as some sort of consolation prize.

      Delete
    11. I totally agree with both of you !!they don’t invite everyone stop telling us to guess we not invited they don’t give us the details (which it’s fine if they don’t ) they call us fans now when the first started they said that they just regular people who just happen to be on tv ..no we fans ,dates are secrets ,genders of babies are secrets ..just do y’all thing Duggar family and if u want to share details share them all or not at all enough with the teasing please ..much love ❤️

      Delete
    12. Guessing the date for when a baby will come or a wedding is just for fun. If you don’t want to guess then don’t. It isn’t something to get upset over. It would be ridiculous to invite even more people when the church is already full with their families and friends. Where would everyone sit?

I think they will marry this month... maybe on the 20th.

      Delete
    13. It's fun to guess the date of the weddings and babies. It's one of my favorite things on this blog. I'm guessing 9 lbs, born on August 30th! And the baby will have curly hair like Abby!

    14. Anonymous 10:39, fans have no “right” to personal info such as wedding dates. We watch them on television and enjoy what they choose to share with us, they are still entitled to privacy. In today’s world no matter how much security you employ things happen. The wedding will be televised, we can enjoy it then.

      Delete
    15. I am 10:39 and I agree with you that they do not need to tell fans when the date is. I truly understand the need for security. But my point is “Dont have a silly guessing game” to make us feel silly.

    3. Correction to my previous comment. Josie's wedding date is October 5 not 6.

Josie is young but she's done with school and has been working for a while. She's known Kelton for a long time and if she was slightly older, they probably would have been married already. Kelton is the one who introduced Tori and Bobby.

I think rather than age you have to consider each couple. Two of my friends were married a week apart both at age 19. One is preparing to celebrate her 21st wedding anniversary. The other has been divorced, had other longterm relationships and gotten married again. Looking back at each of them 21 years ago, I can't really say I'm surprised how each marriage turned out.

    1. 10:13 why would you want them to choose a wedding style you want? They have a large family and many friends, how do you decide who to invite and who not to? While their weddings are large, I don’t think they’re over the top...modest cakes or other desserts, no stuffy protocol, just a nice celebration with the focus on the ceremony and vows. I think their weddings have focused on the marriage. Let them decide without judgement what kind of gathering to have.

    2. Yes, so many big big weddings. For a change,it might be nice to see a small backyard "family only" wedding. Maybe in Jana's beautiful garden area. A country wedding. of course, with these big families, even an "immediate family only" wedding would still be a fair amount of people.

      Delete
    3. Oh calm down the only place it says Mr and Mrs is in the blog post title, under that it clearly states her name several times. News flash, when a man and a woman get married, the one who marries the couple usually says may I now present to you, Mr and Mrs.....imagine that concept!

      Delete
    4. The old "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith" is becoming a thing of the past... thankfully.

      Delete
    5. Let women decide for themselves. If she wants to be called Mrs John Duggar, let her do it. If she wants to be Ms or Mrs or keep her last name or not, let her decide. I got married a couple years ago and decided I wanted to change my last name so it would be the same as future children's names. Even my die-hard feminist friend has thought about changing her name because the kids' school needs letters stating she is the parent and for every activity she is scrutinized and she never needs to take her kids on a plane by herself but I have already taken my newborn to visit relatives. So that's all great to keep your maiden name but for some of us, the practicalities of the whole family having the same last name outweigh any feminism ideals.

      Delete
    6. I was going to say this. It’s absurd.

    7. Anonymous @ 2:34- With the number of boys in the Duggar family, can you see a problem if you simply called every Duggar couple "Mr. and Mrs. Duggar"? ;)

    9. Sad!! 4:22 pm...truly sad. This world keeps going down.

      Delete
    10. 7:28 - I agree with everything you wrote about determining whether to keep your maiden name. However, I think that OP was frustrated with the usage of "Mr. and Mrs. John Duggar" in that it doesn't include Abbie's name. The phrasing reduces her identity to being simply the wife of John David rather than naming her as a partner in the marriage.

At the weddings I've attended, both of the couple's names are always announced (ex. "Mr. & Mrs. John & Jane Smith).

      Delete
    11. Maybe it's just me, but I love being Mrs. [husband's name & last name}. Names are a very personal thing. To me, it signifies that we are two halves of a whole. We compliment, enhance, and support each other. Why take the guy's last name and not the girl's? Because he wouldn't want to be without me. ;) He 'd simply be Mr. [husband's name & last name]. To me, it doesn't demean me or devalue me in any way-it actually honors me. It's a public declaration that he values me and considers me (my thoughts, feelings, hopes, dreams, disappointments, worries, fears, cares) as much as he does his own self. It's a relational reminder of my value to both of us. It reminds the guy that to harm his wife is to harm himself. Likewise, it reminds me how much he does value and trust me with his heart. No one else is close enough to be in a trusted position to share his name and his life.

    12. The Bible says the two become one flesh so Mr. and Mrs..... is appropriate. It isn’t old fashioned. It is Biblical.

    19. The use of Mr and Mrs is a cultural, socially typical term in traditional circles. I’d call the Duggars traditional so, it seems appropriate.

  40. I hope for October 20th (which is my wedding anniversary). Congratulations to John-David and Abbie on whatever date they get married!

  41. They look very happy , and with every picture I think ,
John David has probably never been hugged so much as in recent months.

  42. I think wedding bells will be ringing in the next 4 to 6 weeks. I've never seen John David look so happy.

  43. Well, November is already has two anniversaries & Thanksgiving, my guess is a Saturday or Sunday in October, or January 2019. Not a bachelor 'til the rapture, after all! Congratulations & blessed wishes! ❤

  44. Really good to see John David look so happy, he can look so serious at times. Abbie seem really good match for him.

    1. Should they say “Mr. John Duggar and the future Abbie Duggar”, how about John and Abbie with no titles. Does it really matter? This family is very traditional, Mr. and Mrs. fits into who they are....not something to roll your eyes at or get all negative about....each to their own.

    1. It's possible but I don't think they'd choose the same weekend as close family friends. Josie Bates is getting married this weekend. Even if John isn't close to her, their parents are very good friends and many of the kids are close. John stood up in Zach and Whitney's wedding so I assume they're close. He'd want his close friend to be at his wedding.

    2. maybe the same weekend, if its near the same area. That would be nice for the guests, since they probably have a lot of guests in common, being in the same area for a couple days. It would be convenient for them, save travel.

    3. What??! Josie Duggar is too young to get married !??!! What is the world coming too??!!

    4. ^^ --> To the comment above, they meant Josie Bates from the Bates family. The Bates and the Duggars have been friends for years. Both set of parents have 19 children and the Bates have a daughter, named Josie who is 19 years old. Josie Duggar is 8 years old.

    5. @1:07—calm down its Josie Bates getting married!

    6. @ 1:07 I clearly wrote Bates after Josie's name and mentioned the fact that the families are close friends. The Bates family also has a Jackson who is older than Jackson Duggar.

  49. The best thing about this post is that wonderful picture of Abbie and John. They radiate happiness. John David has never looked so adorably joyful!!!

  50. Thrilled for John-David. He was always a favorite and his beloved is so cute. I don't watch the show anymore but do love to know what is going on with certain ones, like John who aren't always putting themselves out there.

  51. I think they'll be married as soon as possible. Being older and more mature (life experience) than their siblings, I believe they'll want to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas in their own home. <3

  52. I cannot wait to see their story on counting on. John David and Abbie look great together. I have never seen John David so happy.

  53. I think they will wed on 11/3/2018. I am so very happy for them. She is very beautiful. They make a beautiful couple. I can not wait to see the wedding. When will we see updated pictures of Garrett David Duggar?

  54. They are already married maybe.

  55. I like the way TLC handled Josiah And Lauren’s Wedding... pieces of it right away so fans weren’t kept waiting, then last week they aired the full version. I hope they will do this for John David’s and Abbie’s Wedding too. I agree with the above comments.
Bring this wedding on before the Holidays! Thank you TLC for a wonderful season. Best show on TV!

  56. I agree that John has never looked happerier! The fact that he introduced his girlfriend to the family earlier shows that he is his own man and not following JBs rules.

    1. Having rules help a child make right choices. I do not think they are trying to run their life. But, make great choices that they will not have regrets later. I think people are to hard on their parents.

    2. No, having rules makes a child either feel obligated to follow them for no understandable reason of their own, or else anxious to find a way to sneak around the rules without anyone knowing.

Children have to learn how to set their own limits, for reasons they understand and agree with. Parents aren't always going to be there to enforce rules. But a child's own sense of propriety will be, if that's allowed to develop naturally.

    3. John David and Abbie are not children, they are adults and ought to be able to make their own decisions. When the couple is in late teens or early twenties then yes more parental guidance makes sense, this couple is close to thirty, ready to spread their wings and fly!

  57. I cried so so much during last nights episode! I loved the wedding, and I’m so happy for John! I’m still crying as I type this! It is a joy watching your family on television! We don’t watch much on tv these days, but we definitely watch your show! I’m praising the Lord for that! And for your beautiful family! Much love, from the Sutton family in California!

  58. They are the most financially ready couple. Good for them for waiting until they are able to afford to keep house on their own.

  59. They are a cute couple! At their ages the side hugs only and no kissing till their wedding day is just ridiculous! Hope they have time alone and have private phone conversations and texts. They are adults in their late twenties not teenagers.

    1. I think their parents do not want them to have regrets later if, they choose the wrong thing. The less you do, the less decisions you will have to make.

  61. There is a lot to be said for waiting for the right one. They seem very happy.

  62. I think their parents want them to have little contact with their future husband/wife. This way you keep yourself from having to make decisions you will not have to regret later. I think it is great their parents want the best for them. I do not think they are trying to run their lives. Every loving parent wants the best for their children.

    2. 9:19- Adult children should be making their own decisions. We all go through life making some good and some not-so-good choices. That's how we learn about what works and what doesn't.
