Duggars at Magnolia

A small group of Duggars has been in Waco, Texas, this week visiting Chip and Joanna Gaines' famous Magnolia Market. (Have you seen Fixer Upper?) Waco is only five hours northeast of Jinger and Jeremy Vuolos' home in Laredo, Texas, so they joined the party, as did Jana Duggar, the four Seewalds, and friends Sierra, Kristen, and Laura. Check out these snapshots.

    3. Mrs. Voulo is not in jeans. It is Laura, not part of the Duggar gang.

    4. I'm sorry bit she is in olive colored pants

    5. Becky, the Duggar girls wear pants very rarely. They choose to dress the way they do, not what their parents want.

    9. Anonymous 3:11. That is 100% Jinger Voulo wearing modest loose pants. Laura looks completely different that Jinger. Jinger was also spotted wearing knee length shorts few weeks ago as well.

    10. Anonymous 3:11.. That is Jinger not Laura. Yes wears pants now she's not living at home.

    11. Oops....you're wrong, that is Jinger and good for her! She's setting her own rules and sense of style. I believe it was Michelle Duggar who said she chose to dress modestly and dressed her children that way but as they marry and go into the world choices. There is nothing less Godly about Jinger in jeans. I believe it is more honest and God likes honest.

    3. Pretty sure he is there to take Henry and Spurgeon so Jessa can hang with the girls. I'm sure Jessa brought them because she is still nursing Henry. I've totally been in that position... having to bring the baby when all the other mamas left theirs at home. Would have been nice to have had someone to take the baby when I was done nursing so I could have enjoyed the trip. It's a great thing to be able to take your husband. Smart of them.

  4. Looks like a fun time and Jinger is wearing pants! One small observation- if Jessa is going to speak about modest dressing maybe she shouldn't wear tops with words splashed across her chest. The lettering just draws your eyes right there first.

    1. Well, that, and also skin-tight clothing.

      Delete
    2. I was thinking the same thing. Jessa does dress up similar with Jill. I think they both are more laid back how to dress up after giving births twice.

      Delete
    3. The first thing I thought of when I saw that word was the old Judy Blume novel by the same name, and Jessa certainly wouldn't want any connection to that...

      Delete
    4. Specially when she's breast feeding... Just saying...

      Delete
    5. Or maybe wear something a little bit loose

      Delete
    6. What a ridiculous comment. Men/Women should be able to control their thoughts and be accountable for where there minds go. Jessa's shirt is not tight at all and looks perfectly fine...."just saying".

      Delete
    7. There's nothing wrong with what Jessa is wearing. A lot of women would wear that shirt.

      Delete
    8. Wow, who made you in charge in what they wear? They choose what they want to wear.

      Delete
    9. I'm glad to see Jessa expanding her experiences. I also know how it feels to go somewhere special and have few options to wear bouncing back from having a baby and still breast feeding. Just frumpy but glad to be there.
I think she did the best she could and hurtful picky comments are not appropriate to her face or here.
Cut the poor girl some slack.

      Delete
    10. I agree, Jessa often wears tight fitting clothing esp when she's pregnant and you can see every thing. Not very modest to me

      Delete
    11. I was thinking the same thing.

    12. The reason many people are turned away from christianity is because they see christians been super critical of each other rather then raising their brothers and sisters in the Lord up. Its terribly sad.

      Delete
    13. I am anon 8:23 who started this whole thing. Of course Jessa can wear what she wants. My point was that because she is going to be paid to give seminars tutoring young girls to dress modestly, I thought her shirt choice was unusual. If you are going to talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. Cursive words that size splashed right there at that angle is provocative imo. Everyone passing her is going to try to read what it says and they are going to be staring right There! Actually, I think that top is more provocative
than a lower cut tighter fitting top would be. I'm not a conservative Christian and dress very mainstream. I wear jeans, skirts above my knees and off the shoulder dresses and tops but I would never wear this nor let my daughters wear it as it basically is advertising what one has. I know modesty is subjective but in what world would this top ever be considered modest.

      Delete
    14. In my opinion, as a Christian myself, I think anything can be imodest if it doesn't fit right. For instance Jessas shirt in these pictures is far more revealing/telling than Jingers pants. However, this group gripes about "pants". I've seen some tight jean skirts too around the hips and booty. Modesty to me means it fits properly. Not so much "what it is but how it fits".

      Delete
    15. I completely disagree with everyone who thinks Jessa is being immodest. I have seen tons of women wear clothing with words on their shirts. I read what is in the shirts without paying attention to any other details. The word calls attention to itself not to her body parts. Her shirt is obviously not too tight or low cut. Her shirt is cute.

  5. So I am noticing Jinger wearing pants. Nothing wrong with that at all. After only seeing her wear skirts for her whole life I am sure that it is shocking for her parents to see her in pants. I wonder what brought on this change. I had to nom in to make sure that it was her.
    Change is good!
    What do y'all think??

    1. I read an article a while back where Jeremy said he thought women could wear pants and still be femine/modest so maybe he and Jinger talked about it and she changed her mind!

      Delete
    2. I agree with you. Nothing wrong with wearing pants, there are lots of modest pants out there. They are specially good for sports or for WINDY places where you know it will be hard to wear a skirt, bahaha! I'm a huge fan of dresses and skirts, but I use pants as well. As for Jinger, I aldo wonder what brought on this change. I hope she didn't change to please her husband or to feel "normal" among his friend, but because she felt confortable with that decision. And I can imagine how that must be shocking to her parents and to other people, but to me she still looks modest and lovely as always!

      Delete
    3. I agree. I think she looks great and I love seeing her step out of the mold a little. She's still very modest.

      Delete
    4. I think Jeremy told her it was OK to wear pants. He preached a sermon that included this topic. I don't see it as a great breakthrough. Waiting for a man to tell you something is OK before you do it is just as sad as not being allowed wear pants while growing up.

      Delete
    5. I don't know if you meant the what the Duggar's think, what Lily and Ellie think or what other commenters think! :-) BUT personally I don't think there's any thing wrong with wearing pants but I honestly think maybe she is wearing them "to fit in" with the world (instead of comfort/practical) that IS bad. Just my though. It's really between her, her husband, and God :-)

      Delete
    6. Personally I'm disappointed. I really appreciate the girls' convictions and how they seemed to stand firm in them. Now this isn't feeling so much like a conviction, but instead something that was forced upon her by her parents. Thus why the sudden change?

      Delete
    7. I love it! It's not the 1st time I've seen it though. I've seen her in black and white Adidas track pants before years ago when she still lived at home.

      Delete
    8. I think that Jinger and Jeremy, as a married adult couple, probably created their own rules for dress and behavior--there's nothing intrinsically right or wrong about pants...a decision completely in keeping with Christian liberty rather than legalism.

      Delete
    9. It's not a change. The Duggar girls wore pants before - even Joy-Anna has a photo of her somewhere on this blog back a few years ago, she was wearing pants. They even said on one of the seasons that they just choose to wear skirts because thats what they like.

      Delete
    10. I'm assuming she made the change not because her convictions changed or out of peer pressure, but because she was fine with pants all along, but chose to wear skirts while living at home out of respect for her parents convictions.

      Delete
    11. I'm glad she is wearing what is comfortable finally and she included a modest sweater. I always like those as they cover below the hip.
Her shirt had a modest neckline too.
Sure beats those Prairie smocks above the ankle.

      Delete
    12. I love that she is wearing pants! She is still modest. And as a adult she can make her own choices about what she can wear. I wear pants . And sure while they were children/teenagers they did need to follow by their parents rules if that is what they wanted but once they are a adult it should be up to them.

      Delete
    13. There are a lot of rules that children need to respect while living in their parents household that they may not agree with. Some kids aren't allowed to go out with friends past a certain curfew, others don't have curfews. Some kids are allowed to date some arent. Some can get piercings and others can't. Respecting your parents rules are a part of life. I had a lot of household rules I didn't agree with but now as an adult I'm free to make my own choices. This whole mindset that people have that she was forced to wear skirts while living at home and now has to have her husbands approval is silly to me. Her parents have every right to raise their kids how they choose is best and it is very respectable that jinger and others respected those wishes and rules of their parents and waited until they moved out of the home to choose differently, after all there are still small children living at home and it sets a good example for them on following mom and dads rules. In my opinion our generation should be more respectful of our parents than we are- seems like this generation has the mindset that we should be allowed to do whatever we want and that doesn't teach us good character. There's always some one we have to answer to in life. Our parents, a teacher at school, a boss at work, the law...we should encourage respect!

    1. The Duggar girls wear pants - there is photo proof a few years ago of Joy-Anna somewhere on this blog that she wore pants also. They also explained on one of the seasons that they just prefer to wear skirts. Their parents have nothing to do with it.

    2. Anon @9.50 While there are a few photographs of the duggar girls in pants they are few and far between. If the no pants rule was not the parents idea why is Jinger only now starting to wear them, now that she is married and out of her parents home surely her convictions would not change that quickly? The bottom line is that the no pants rule was put in place by michelle and Jimbob and now Jinger is married and has a husband who doesn't think pants on women are immodest she is free to wear them. Good for her!

      Delete
    3. The Duggar girls have only worn pants on rare occasions when they have explanations. They explain that it is their choice, based on their shared convictions with their parents. However, it IS a change. We have seen a few of the girls in pants across the years, but only with reasons- going hunting, working as first responders, going sled riding. Also in the recent years we have seen them wear long, knee length, gym shorts- but only if they're doing water activities. Literally every time they wear pants, it is explained. Even when they've had episodes of them working out, they have skirts over their work out pants. But Jinger is wearing pants casually in this photo. There is another recent picture on the internet with her wearing jean shorts as well (they're modest, but still shorts). So, while many of the girls may have worn pants across the years with an exception/explanation for it, Jinger is clearly doing something different.

  22. Jana, you ought to move out with a friend/roomie (or even your brother!) and start living your own life. You can still be close with your family, still go on family trips when you like, and you can decide for yourself if you want to go out with friends, do something on your own, or plan a trip without your family. You are a grown woman, you deserve to have your own life.

    2. People are always telling Jana she should be free to make her own choices, yet they want to dictate what those choices are! She should "move out, wear pants, get a boyfriend, go to college. . ." What if Jana doesn't WANT any of those things? What if she CHOSE to live this life she's living right now? Will you still be happy for her? You can't tell someone to live their life the way they want, and then set up guidelines for what's an acceptable life.

  23. Oh wow! Two of my favorite shows!! Awesome! Wonder if they got to meet the Gains family?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm sincerely trying to wrap my head around Jinger wearing pants. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with pants wearing. I wear pants on the daily. However, the Duggars for years have said the girls have CHOOSEN to wear dresses. That they have always had the choice and they choose them for modesty reasons. Well, if Jinger has always had the choice, then why is it that she jumped on the pants/shorts wearing bandwagon so soon after getting married? Doesn't really feel so much like a choice now. Seems that Jinger really did want to wear pants after all and now she has the freedom to do so. I'm wondering what else these children are going to begin to rebel from in terms of their upbringing. I personally would be interested to hear from Jinger about the change. Are there other things she is planning on moving away from (in terms of her parents obvious enforcements)?

    2. This, the inconstancy you touch on here is what irks me.
And my husband has said for years that men of the family have often worn tight pants and how is that not immodest?

      Delete
    3. I'm assuming that Hunger never had a problem with wearing pants, but chose to wear skirts while she still lived at home, not because she had to, but our of RESPECT for her parents convictions. I do the same in some areas, and it doesn't mean my parents aren't allowing me to choose.

      Delete
    4. It isn't rebellion. She isn't under her parents rules and authority anymore. She is an adult who is free to make her own decisions.

      Delete
    5. I think it's hard to choose not to wear pants when there were none your size or style in the family closet. I am really happy to see Jinger being herself and making these choices and glad Jeremy is not oppressing her right to be her own person.

      Delete
    6. I don't think while they girls live in the house they really have any choice. It is what their parents prefer and while they still live there, the girls won't rock the boat. Alyssa Bates and Whitney Bates have said the same thing. In their married lives they will wear pants but if they will be around the parents they will oblige their rules and put skirts back on.

      Delete
    7. That would be interesting to hear, but I don't think we will because they wouldn't want to say anything to conflict with how their parents are still raising their younger sisters. I suspect it's because the girls have grown spiritually and now realize that some of these rules they lived under (no pants, no shoulders, no knees) are not Biblical, but man-made.

  25. Just curious to know if the girls met the Gaines family while they were there?

  27. I know we all can't stop talking about Jinger in pants. What I would love is a statement from her about her new clothing choices and her new interpretaion of modesty. We heard all about what modesty meant in the Duggar family and explanations of why they choose to dress the way they did. I'd love to hear the same things from Jinger now that she is choosing to dress differently than she did before.

    1. Anon @3.20 I think we all know that the no pants deal was the parents rule which I for one have never understood. Pants are modest and are far more practical in most sitiations. Jinger does not need to explain herself to anyone, 'a picture (or 3 or 5) speaks a thousand words. Im glad she can now dress how she wants snd I would love to see the other girls do the same, especially Joy I think she would love to wear jeans, more practical for all that outdoorsy stuff she is going to be doing.

    3. Anon @9.45 Respectfully the parents have laid down some very strict rules the girls have to abide by. A photograph of Joy wearing pants once says everything, it was once. There have been countless situations when wearing pants would have been more practicle and modest. One outing that comes to mind was a birthday of Joys when she went rock wall climbing and was wearing a skirt. She had great difficulty putting on the safety harness over the skirt, and not to mention her brothers standing at the bottom looking up (and don't get me started on the flio flops lol). Im sorry to say but this does not appear to be the girls choice to me, and especially when they reach adulthood they should be able to dress how they choose.

  36. It looks like Jinget is wearing pants, I thought they didn't believe in that for women, she looks really nice in them. Not low cut or too tight. They fit her well. Agree with the comments about the T's with words, draws the eyes 👀 front and center.

  39. I was surprise seeing jinger in pants.we have to make a difference.God see us inside but outside also. I consider myself a conservative christian. I become christian 20 years ago and I only wear skirts, no shorts, no pants and I don't need it anymore.I feel confident and pleased to the lord. We should always be an example as jesus everywhere we go.I have always admire your family because of your belief of the lord and your modesty clothes. I Think we shouldn't change the way we dress in any circumstances. We should always have to show the difference that God makes in our life. I will say to jinger go back wea ring skirts only like you always do. Just because you got married shouldn't make you change the way you just to do. God bless the duggar family.

    2. Don't remember seeing anything about females having to wear skirts or dresses in the Bible.

    1. The Bible says nothing about a women not belong aloud to wear pants. Modesty is more than just what you choose to wear. She can still be modest in pants. And she wore skirts because that's what her parents convictions where. Hers don't have to be the same.

      Delete
    2. The Bible does not mandate that women wear skirts and not pants, so why would you want to foist man-made rules on people?
If you are convicted to wear skirts, great. If other women are not, great! There is freedom in Christ!

      Delete
    3. Your definition of modesty is an opinion, nothing more. It is not an edict from God that women should not wear pants. That's the problem with religion in general- all these man-made rules and regulations that do not define a Christian.

      Delete
    4. Oh dear! Do you really think wearing slacks causes you to be less pleasing to the Lord? My Lord isn't that petty and narrow minded.

      Delete
    5. It doesn't make her any less Christian wearing pants. Sometimes it's more modest. It's your choice to wear skirts it's her own walk with God. The bible says dress feminly not skirts only. Back in biblical days neither women or men wore pants. So it doesn't say only wear skirts

  41. I live close to Waco and my daughter lives in Waco. Magnolia is a fantastic place but always crowded. Glad to see Jinger being more open and relaxed. I noticed on their honeymoon she was in sleeveless shirt and shorts.

  42. I actually saw them there! I was like "is this for real??!" I was too shy to go up and talked to them but Jeremy almost ran into me with a stroller ahahahaha

  43. I cannot BELIEVE the people who are saying Jessa's shirt is immodest or they're "disappointed" in Jinger. Firstly, it's nobody's business what either of them feel is appropriate for themselves to wear. Secondly, people's opinions can change. Whether it was a previous conviction or not, maybe she's grown and change, it's allowed. And thirdly, if you feel Jess's' shirt is immodest, then you must not be paying much attention to the world, because it's a heck of a lot more modest than what a lot of 20-somethings wear.

    1. So modesty is judged on a curve? If MOST girls wear worse, she can get away with a little exposure? Can't say I agree.

    3. Maybe she didn't know them that well at that point. We all have people that we know but don't hang out with on a regular basis. They may have become closer later.

  46. Here's my thoughts to everyone who is confused about Jinger wearing pants: The Duggars have said that their girls chose to wear pants. Well, I'm guessing some of them chose to wear pants to honor their father. He didn't force them to, but they knew that he preferred skirts, so they chose to wear them. Well, Jinger is married now and no longer under her father's authority. She has obviously decided that she is okay with wearing pants. That's my guess. Or, she's just changed her views as the years have gone by... Look, we're all going to have at least slightly different opinions of what's modest and what's not, so let's just leave this beautiful, godly woman alone - same goes for Jessa.
Oh, and to all those saying that Spurgeon needs a hair cut, good grief people! He's less than two years old for Pete's sake and still clearly looks like a boy! I for one would hate to see all those cute curls cut off to soon!
Let's just let the Duggars dress and parent the way they see best.

    2. The ladies are Sierra, kristen and Lauren. Sierra has been seen on the show a lot and Kristen is her bestie. Kristen and her husband own tacos for life and you will often see her, Sierra and Jessa photographed together, they threw a baby shower for her. Lauren is a friend of Janas I believe from her Journey to the heart days.

    3. 5:39 - The girl in the picture is Laura, NOT Lauren. Laura is a friend of Jana's. Also, the young lady Joe is courting named Kendra I think? Her sisters name is Lauren, maybe that's why you thought that was this girls name? Just a thought!

    4. Anon @ 11:25 got Kendras sisters name from another site and just confused lauren with laura they are very similar, knew it wasn't her sister and know she is a friend of Janas. Thank you for clearing up the confusion.

  49. Love the show "Fixer Upper" and Chip and Joanna. Hope they got to meet them and their family. Happy to see that Jinger is wearing slacks. She only needs to answer to her husband and herself. Will any of this be on their show when it comes back in the summer?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm not sure Jinger wearing pants means she is being her own woman, doing what she wants. I believe it's probably more so the case that her husband expressed his approval of her wearing pants. And if that is the case, it's kind of sad.

  52. I watch both Fixer Upper and the Duggers. Great family lifestyle! ;) Did they get to meat Chip and Joanna's family? Their lifestyle is how I wished I could have raised my kids.

  53. Why is the Gaines family willing to be crossed over with the Duggars? At this time, it's just not a good move publicly. I don't want to see Fixer Upper cancelled for associating with this controversial family, and YES, they are controversial to many.

    1. Who said they associated with them? If you go visit a place someone made famous, does that mean you are now associated? I went to be Silos, so am I now associated with the Gaines? If they did meet the Gaines family, I am sure they were kind to them like they would be to anyone.

    2. If the enemy (the devil) wanted try to stop their show he doesn't need the Duggar's for that, he has already tried once.
Your comment, I mean really? Would Jesus do that - not associate because of media and so on? And you do not see the Gaines in the pics so what is your point?

If this is not posted, it is okay, I understand. The comment bothered me. So I wanted to comment to it.

    3. S CA, the devil did not get 19 kids cancelled the backlash following the diclosure of Joshs wrong doings did. I wish people would stop blaming the devil for the bad things they do, God gives us all free will and we make choices good and bad and need to take personal accountabilty for them. This show like all others will eventually come to an end and it wont be because of the devil.

  62. May I ask a question? I am new to this blog and was wondering why when peoples names are added at the bottom of pictures why are the surnames of duggars, seewalds and vuolos added, surely the people who read and comment on the blog are fans and so know who they are, not being rude just curious. Also Sierra, Kristen and Lauren were named but no surnames would it not make more sense to add non family member full names so we know who they are? Sorry if its been asked before.

    3. I've asked a few times, but no answers. I think it must be for marketing purposes.

Remember back in the very first "14 Kids..." special, they had all the kids line up and introduce themselves to the camera. Every one recited their full name. J Duggar, after J Duggar. So it's a practice they've done for their whole lives.

  66. Maybe this trip was more for Jana and Sierra, as they share a common interest in decorating and party planning. Magnolia would be a really great place to feed Jana's interests and inspire her, should she choose to launch her own decorating business. She's very gifted in that area and would be really good at it. Every decorator/designer/party planner gets inspiration from others in the business and from Pinterest-more power to her! :) It was nice they could have some friends along and meet up with Jinger. Not sure why Ben came, as Jessa had plenty of experienced-with-children sisters present who could help her with Henry. Perhaps he wanted to meet Chip Gaines. I do kind of wonder if the Duggars could actually survive in the real world, if they didn't have a reality TV show though. The kids seem to have a lot of skills, but few of those skills seem to be actually marketable (i.e. wage earning to the extent to support a wife and numerous children off one income without parental propping).
