Video: Grandma C in Central America

Do you all remember Derick Dillard's mom, Cathy Byrum Dillard? She was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma two weeks after Jill and Derick's engagement, and by the time their wedding rolled around three months later, she was not expected to survive.

Against all odds, Cathy won the battle and is now cancer free! She attributes her healing and peace during the storm to the Lord. This lovely lady has visited Jill, Derick, and Israel a couple times in Central America. Check out the video below. How sweet is it to see Israel whimper as his beloved "Grandma C" leaves?

  1. That's old footage - did she visit again recently, like in April? I thought I saw newer pictures.

  3. if they call themselves missionaries they sure have more families member come and visit then anyone I ever heard of? most missionaries have no contact with family for several years only through e-mail or letters? they seem like they never left home?

    1. So in order to be a missionary you can have no contact with your family?? If you are serving in an area that is accessible why shouldn't family and friends visit? This will not interfereven with the work they are doing.

    2. Many missionaries do have access to the internet and some can Skype. It's not just snail mail anymore. All the missionaries our church supports do have some access. We have even Skyped with a couple of them up on the big screen during a service. One couple was from Siberia and the other from Equator. Granted some missionaries are in hard-to-reach areas and we don't hear from them in real time, but they do from time-to-time get to larger centers where they can arrange some computer time. As far as visiting, sometimes mission trips are arranged, or families can hop on a plane. Not advised for volatile areas.
What you describe was true back in the 50s and 60s or before.

    3. Isn't having family and friends visiting all the time distracting? How can you be focused on your work when you're entertaining a houseful?

I see youthful decisions, some not very well thought out. Jill seems excited simply to be playing missionary. Derick seemed more focused on his work in Nepal, without the constant visitors and cameras. He sure dropped the Wal-Mart job fast, so I don't doubt he feels called to do other work. But I think that Jill & the show are behind all these visits by family. She seems to be the one who's homesick the most. Derick didn't have all this fuss around him in Nepal.

    4. no that is not what I am saying? no missionaries I ever knew from my church had guest has much as the dullards? seems something is really off with them? and they left really quick for missionaries? Missionaries prepare to go out. they never once said they were praying to go out. we heard derrick quiet his job and then they were gone? seems odd to me?

    5. I hope your calling them the Dullards was just a typo. That's just not nice.

    6. Ok..I saw that too and assumed it was a typo, but not going to lie. I laughed.

    7. In that person's defense, "u" and "i" are right next to each other on the keyboard, and it's an easy mistake for anyone's fingers to make. I've seen it on this blog before. Spell-check can't catch it because even the correct spelling of Dillards is underlined in red here as being "wrong" while "Dullards" gets no underline at all! Try typing them both yourself and you'll see.

  4. Wow, what an obvious disconnect between the footage and the interview! A beard like that doesn't grow overnight! TLC is so done with this show. They're not even trying anymore.

    1. They were showing a flashback to the wedding day. It wasn't supposed to be overnight.

    2. Did you watch it? They show him in Central America clean shaven, then cut to interviews of him with a beard.

  5. What a sweet, sweet video. Ms Cathy is a beautiful, inspirational woman; and, according to Izzy, a pretty awesome grandma.

  8. I love Dericks mom,she is such a sweet soul.I didn't realize how very sick she was at that time...so glad she won the battle. Okay, I'm going to address this ridiculous issue of Dericks appearance...please leave him be and remember he is a human being with feelings...Also,I heard that in that dangerous part of the country it's best to subtract some western looks from ones self if at all possible. So maybe growing a beard and hair might just help a little with that, ya think...bet ya didn't think of that now did ya.Maybe looking that way puts less of a target on your back when walking the streets. Please try to be kind, nice, sweet and pleasant...it feels just phenomenal! ☻🌝🌞🌚Blessings to the Duggars, Dillards and Seewalds❤💙💚💜P.S. It's a 100% guarantee that I smile every time I visit this blog...We fans can always count on Lily and Ellie, And for that I thank you immensely. Sincerely, Natalia👧

    1. They don't have a target on their back...
Every time they talk of danger they mention the tarantulas and cougars, so clearly it's that kind of thing that makes it "dangerous" for them...

    2. Do a little digging as to the dangers to westerners in that part of the world and you will see...Blessings😃

  9. Seeing the cousins in their Jonny jump-ups brought back a memory. My younger brother was born in 2# preemie in the late 1940's and my grandmother said we'll see about that! She prayed and went out and bought a Jonny jump up, and the rest is history. My little brothers legs were strengthened and he walked!!! Good stuff to have today!!!!

  10. Yes, Jill and Derick are questionable missionaries to say the least, but that in no way should negate the true celebration here. Miss Cathy is CANCER-FREE!!!

  11. So agree the celebration is Cathy being cancer-free!!!
By the way; we have'nt seen or heard anything about Grandma Mary Duggar? Is she okay?

  12. Enough about the Dillards. We're sick of hearing about them.
