Memorial Service for Jubilee Shalom

The memorial service for Jubilee Shalom Duggar, the 20th child of Jim Bob and Michelle, will be held on Wednesday, December 14th. Michelle's miscarriage occurred last night. Upon feeling lightheaded, she was taken to the hospital and is expected to be discharged later today.

In a statement to People, Jim Bob says:
"We have had many tears today. This is life, and I understand that we are going though something that many others have. You think about the what-ifs, but God gives us strength to go on. We won't be able to see this child's life and the phases that we've seen for our other children, but we know we will see this child in heaven one day. We are thankful for each child, and we are blessed to have the children we have here and the ones we will meet someday in heaven."

In the midst of this devastating miscarriage, the Duggars were still able to celebrate Josie's second birthday on Saturday. "We were looking forward to this birthday because it is a milestone for her," Jim Bob tells People. "It is wonderful that she is with us and doing so well."

  5. God's Little Angel

A little "Angel" came to earth one day. He gave only love then he went away. Don't ever forget the love he brought- his bright smile and the lessons he taught. It's hard losing someone who gives only love and goes back to Heaven to his Father above. Remember him always; there's no other way. Then know in your heart you'll be with him one day, but for now share the love and continue to say, "Thank you, God, for my angel who has gone away."

  19. I've been thinking it's actually a blessing they found out the baby was no longer alive at the ultrasound appointment. I think God wanted Jim Bob & Michelle, and the rest of the family, to be able to experience the loss gradually and with the encouragement of those around them. Michelle knew she would eventually go through the miscarriage, and was able to prepare her heart more. I can't imagine what it would have been like if they hadn't had the appointment, and she just all of a sudden suffered the miscarriage, not having realized anything was wrong up until that point. I'm sure it would have been more traumatic emotionally, for everyone. The ultrasound appointment scheduled when it was seemed to be a blessing in disguise.

  27. Our family has 5 children here with us and 2 in Heaven. We have been deeply sad for the Duggars as they, too, have gone through this - with the loss of their newest daughter. We pray that they experience peace from the Father as only He can give. Jubilee's life here was extremely short, but my - wasn't she a loved little girl! May God bless this family! We love you guys.

  30. I will lend you, for a little time,
A child of mine, He said.
For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
    Or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief.
    You'll have his lovely memories,
    As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
    Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over,
    In search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
    I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
    Nor think the labour vain.
Nor hate me when I come
    To take him home again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!'
For all the joys Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
    We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
    Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
    Much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
    And try to understand.

  34. Dear Duggar Family,

My heart goes out to you all during this time. Jubilee Shalom's life was very short, but she is certainly a very loved little girl! Your family's Christian principles have been an encouragement to me, for that I thank you. May God heal your hearts and may you continue to take comfort in knowing you will see your babies in Heaven.

  35. What a beautiful name for your baby girl! I don't know if you have ever heard the song "Jesus Has A Rocking Chair", but one line says "He holds those precious babies with oh such tender care"...I know Jesus is holding precious little Jubilee Shalom tonight! I had the pleasure of meeting you, Michelle, and your daughter Jill earlier this year at a book signing, and you were so sweet and nice to me...even taking just a little extra time to talk with me about my mom. It breaks my heart to know that your family is going through this difficult time but I hope that knowing you will see Jubilee one day in Heaven will comfort you! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!!

  39. I know a little about what you are going thru. I had a miscarriage when I was 3 months pregnant and I know that even too this day 21 years later I grieve for my lost child. I am sure it’s even harder when you are further along. I want you to know that I have learned to be a better parent to my children by using some of the same teaching tools you use. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us and God bless you.

  40. I think the Duggars stopped trusting God long ago on how many children to give them and tried to set a world record. Their pride overcame their wisdom. God does tell us to rely on him, but He asks us to listen to his wisdom also and I do believe His wisdom is telling this family they have used his Glory for their own fame and it is time to stop.

  44. My thoughts and prayers are with this entire, wonderful family. That said, I object to the "terrible tragedy" phrase relating to the miscarriage of precious Jubilee. Many people suffer miscarriages, some not as lucky to have 19 other children. It is the body's way of saying, "not this one". While it is sad, it is certainly not a tragedy. They will be reunited in faith and in heaven.

  45. You have all been in my prayers. I delivered a baby at 16 weeks and hearing of your loss, brought back all those emotions from 3 yrs ago. I'm sure my Nathan was waiting to welcome your Jubilee in Heaven.

"Everything that lives- plants, animals, and people- has a beginning and an end. Some living things have a long time between their beginning and end. Some are alive only a short time. How long, or how short, doesn't really matter. It is still that plant's, or animal's, or person's lifetime. And each lifetime is special." written by a child for her still born sister

  50. For what it's worth, there are a couple of comments in here that are considering "judging" the Duggar's decision to have another child. Nobody can say that they stopped trusting God and are doing this for fame - we don't know their hearts nor their minds and it's not our place to make comments like that. It IS a tragedy when one is anticipating a child and suddenly loses it without warning - just because they are going to be reunited someday in Heaven doesn't remotely discount their pain right now. This family is grieving. Jubilee Shalom was as much loved and wanted as all 19 other children and her passing in no way reflects "punishment" for her parents choice to have another baby. Yes, God decides when to give life and when to take it, but I sincerely believe that when He is through allowing Michelle to carry a baby to term, He won't even allow a pregnancy to happen. God doesn't punish people by killing an unborn child just because they already have 19 other children. Please lets try to be sensitive to their grief and uphold them with love and prayers rather than making ugly remarks at a time such as this.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Duggar family at this time and I wish them peace and joy knowing their little girl is safe with Jesus.

  53. I am very sorry about the loss of the Duggar's newest child. I understand a little about how they must feel... we lost four of our children to miscarriages. It's hard to explain and some people think it's not a loss and to just get over it. It's been 40 years since I lost my first child, and you never get over it. The family selected a beautifully special name for her and she will always be with them. Many blessings.

  56. Karen I agree with you whole heartily, this child was loved and wanted and I know I couldn't wait to know of another little Duggar. This is a wonderful family and people should worry more about families that hurt their children, leave their children, don't raise their children with good morals and values etc. This is such a wonderful family and only God knows why Jubilee Shalom was called home to Heaven. No matter how many children you have, each child has a special place in your heart, I have 7 living children and 2 angels in Heaven. God bless you!!!

  57. Our family has been through five miscarriges (including one set of twins). We have five children on earth and six in heaven. Through each heart-breaking miscarrige, our family has been pulled closer together. We learned to appreciate each other more than ever as God's gifts to us.

The hope, the gladness of such precious news was dashed when the news sunk in, and the old question, "why!?" echoes again and again. So I really like the fact that Mr. Duggar put in the Rom 8:28 verse in his letter. I can feel for the Duggars and my prayers and thoughts are with them.

May Father comfort them now in their earthly loss and bless them richly in the days to come.

  61. Dear Michelle,

I went through a very similar pregnancy about a year and a half ago. I am sure you will hear many stories of others who have dealt with losses. I found comfort in knowing I was not alone. Through prayer and love we have found a way to be at peace with the loss of our Sweet Angel Baby Alice Elizabeth. The hardest thing I have ever done was deliver her. Through prayer and a lot of soul searching I am able to talk about our angel Alice without tears of sorrow. I promise the pain will pass.

Once you feel ready I highly recommend reading The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans. Recently I felt I was able to read this book and it touch me in ways that I can not explain. It may help this Christmas Season to read it or it may help 2-3 years down the road. Just know you are not alone and that you do have the strength to go on. God Bless you and your beautiful family. And God Bless your family's Sweet Angel Jubilee Shalom.

  79. I am so sorry for your family's loss. Children are God's greatest miracles. A loss of a family member is devastating, especially when its a child. My sister lost her little girl, Faith, earlier this year at 18 weeks. I was with her in the hospital when Faith was delivered. I took a picture and though we didn't get to see her grow up, she still made such an impact on all of us. She is loved and we know we will see her again.

The only difference is that the doctors recommended taking the child due to an infection I contacted. I had every intention to bury my sweet angel however the hospital and the undertaker that was called have no record of what happened. I have such an empty heart and I know this chapter of my life will never close and I will never come to peace with my loss. My prayers go out to you and your beautiful family during this difficult time. An angel was sent to bless your family.

Terrible things happen like this every day we cant tuck them away in a corner because some people are uncomfortable. A child-a pregnancy is a gift from God and should be celebrated ;no matter the duration on this planet. I see it as not a memoraial service but a celebration of her time her with her family. I pray for comfort for you and your family. Now she rests in the arms of Jesus. Amen.

So many times I have come across people that have a lost a child early on in their pregnancy( myself included) and others treat it like "well at least you didn't get to know the baby" or like it is a medical thing and not a lost family member. You cant be more wrong if you think that. Their child died and you need to morn and if you don't it just isn't healthy. So many have had things to say about the Duggars having do many children I for one could not do it but they love and can afford them and in their faith they believe that God in in control of how many children they have. Leave them alone they are good people and love their children and make a good life for them. I have not heard of one story were any of their children being abused/ arrested or got in any trouble at all. There are so many children out there that you cant say that about.
My deepest condolences go out to the Duggar Family for the lost of your Daughter Jubilee Shalom and thank you for doing this memorial as for so many it is a memorial that they wished they had for thier babies.
