Sharing the Big News

In the following TLC webisode, Jill and Derick Dillard share their baby announcement with Derick's mom, Cathy Dillard Byrum, and Derick's brother, Dan Dillard. The newlyweds catch both Cathy and Dan off guard, as they haven't even celebrated their one-month anniversary. We laughed out loud at Dan's reaction!

  3. I love the shocked expression on Cathy's face when Derick said "grandma!" It seems odd that they didn't tell Derick's family in person, but I suppose it would have tipped them off if Derick and Jill showed up with the whole camera crew. Still, I would be a bit miffed if my child gave such big news to their in-laws in person but only told me over the phone. I hope that Derick and Jill continue to spend as much time with Derick's family as they do with Jill's.

  10. I admire Jill's positive attitude and her ability to put a positive spin on the conversations. Some women would take those somewhat stiff responses in a negative direction and start a lot of drama. I think Jill truly lives in the positive side of things, more power to her and Derick (who also has that positive quality, but he's obviously going to be somewhat biased to his family as being positive when they could be viewed as somewhat stiff in their reactions).

  12. Could someone tell me where Jill and Jessa purchased their wedding dresses and how
much they were? Are the dresses affordable to the average girl? I don't have cable so
I can't watch the show but I have seen the beautiful dresses in pictures.

  16. In watching Jill, say she was going to the Midwife, and then watching the Bates show, And how Whitney gave birth in a hospital with an epidural, I was struck at the difference. I was very very proud of Kelly Bates for having so much caring and compassion for Whitney not to have to suffer in pain of childbirth and really encouraged them to have the epidural. Kelly had 14 kids at home with natural childbirth, and then had several of her last children with epidurals, and she had the compassion to spare Whitney the pain. I was struck at remembering how Anna gave birth on the toilet of the house after 14 hours of painful labor, and Michelle watched this even though she had a couple of her last at hospital with epidurals. I really don't understand why Jill should have to have natural childbirth with all that pain, when many she could have a pain free birth at Hospital.

    1. The decision whether to give birth at home or in the hospital, with an epidural or without is up to each individual woman and her husband. Kelly Bates did not "allow" Whitney to have an epidural and Michelle is not "preventing" Anna or Jill from having one...they are both supporting each couple's personal decisions. We all should do the same.

  18. Jill and Derick have got to be the sweetest couple on earth ;*)

  19. @Marlene Young.....Everyone's birth experience is different. Kelly didn't "spare Whitney the pain". Im pretty sure Whitney is her own person and perfectly competent to make her own decisions, AND...Jill doesn't have to do anything. Her birth plan is her and Derricks business.

  20. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that they told the Duggars in person, but the Dillards only get to hear the news by phone or Skype. That's a shame

    Hi Marlene~
I had my first birth in a hospital with an epidural & my last 3 births at home. I can only speak for myself, but my home births were by far less painful (especially the recovery weeks afterwards!) than my hospital birth. Just some different perspective. :)
I can't speak for Jill, but I'm sure pain is not the reason why she is avoiding the hospital.

  23. I'm sure Jill is planning the birth that SHE wants. Don't forget, as a student midwife she delivered babies at unmedicated home births. So not only does she know what she's getting in to, I'm sure she wouldn't even be a (student) midwife if natural birth wasn't something she was passionate about!

  27. @anon 8. They call her Miss Cathy out of respect for an older person. That's how it's done in the South.

  28. I think this was priceless, I love Dericks mom's reaction and as far as his brother I don't think he was expecting them to tell him that news ha ha, I think they both thought it would take longer I'm sure there both extremely thrilled.
