Josie Duggar's Health Scare

The new season of 19 Kids and Counting premieres Tuesday, February 17th, at 9pm ET/8pm CT. "With 19 kids, there's just a lot going on all the time," says Michelle Duggar. The Duggars have a lot of new content to share with fans in the upcoming season, including Jessa's wedding, Jill's clever baby announcement, Josie's health scare, and more.

    1. So Josie had a seizure. I'm 11 and my spelling is correct. Why is she lighter than everyone else. It's weird how she looks like a kid at my school. LOL.😛

  12. Apparently, this season of 19 KAC will be filled with a whole bunch of mysteries.
I got quite choked up when they said that Josie had a seizure. After that, I was choked up for the rest of the video. I hope she is doing well and getting better. (I'm still choked up while writing this comment)
I'm so excited for the newest episode being a week away from airing! I can't wait to see what the Duggars have in store for us this season!

  13. I was wondering how your family keeps all the children interested in God and your faith. We have 4 children ages 18, 16 year old twins, and an 11 year old. Lately our 18 and 16 year old boys don't seem to have any desire to go to church (although this is a house rule). I would like advice if you have any on how to not have to "struggle" and argue about going to church. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. God doesn't force anyone to love him and church doesn't have to be in a building. Family bible studies or even independent bible studies is a good thing! Christ rarely taught in buildings. People get hung up on the "church" thing. Now your in a situation where they are not interested and breaking house rules. Your 18 yr old is definitely old enough to have his/her own place and make his/her own rules. You'll probably get a better handle on the 16 yr old when the older sibling's influence/support is out of the equation. And above all pray for our Father's will to be done and clean your home from evil spirits and anoint it with the oil of our people in the name of Yeshua's!!

  14. Using your daughter's health scare to promote your show just seems to be in poor taste - never mind that it probably shouldn't be filmed at all. People had this same conversation back when James (?) fell off the stage.

    4. The Duggars are an amazing, faithful, good hearted, God loving family. And anybody who would ever bad mouth them has issues of their own that need to be dealt with and counseled for. Don't take your issues out on them. It is so hard to find such a strong family unit this day in age. My 8 year old daughter and I love watching them and look forward to it. They are inspiring and touch our hearts. I got to baptize my daughter on Easter weekend and it was an amazing experience for us both. People need to stop being so angry all the time and start being more loving and accepting. The public seeing what poor baby Josie is going through helps open up more opportunity for prayer. And the more people that get to pray for her the stronger she will get. Love is what heals. Even if it is love from strangers. God recognizes and acknowledges every prayer. Especially when it is unselfish and from the heart. If anyone does not like or agree with the show or their wonderful family, then change the channel and move on with your life. Don't dwell on it and try to make other people feel misery and anger as you do. God bless. And my prayers are with Josie, The entire Duggar family, and the new babies on the way.
      Thank You,

  16. dear duggar family why are you showing your daughter having a sezuier on tv. that is so wrong. that is a personal matter and should not be put out their.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's the same reason why they showed Josie's early days of being a preemie. This could be residual or a first time thing. plenty of parents deal with medical issues with their kids and the Duggars are no exception

      Delete
    2. I think a good thing. Not that Josie is having a seizure, but sharing is a great way of teaching and preparing parents. My son had a febrile seizure at 18 months and was so frightened. But all you can do is comfort, lay them down, and dial 911. And the horror of no response.. But later learn of things like post-ictal stage (spelling?) And just praying. I think it's great that was shared! Preemie or not, need to share knowledge of things like this and the Duggars certainly have an outlet to share with. Thank you!

  21. I find it strange that the Duggars never once mentioned that Josie had a seizure - they seem to post every small detail of the girls weddings, pregnancies and yet no mention of a medical emergency and concern about her. Very strange. It almost feels like TLC insists on portraying this family as having no problems, no health concerns ever for the children's development. Not sure I'm a fan anymore.

    1. This is the second seizure that was aired on tv. She had one when she was much longer (maybe a year and a half) from a fever spike. I don't remember how much of the actual seizure was shown but they showed parts of it and the hospital.

      Delete
    2. They probably wanted to handle it privately at that time

      Delete
    3. Anonymous I completely agree former preemies are so fragile and are susceptible to health problems now whether she will develop a Seizure Disorder due to her Prematurity only time will tell but its very likely

      Delete
  22. Is nothing private??? Allowing camera crews in to a hospital room where your precious little girl is lying there. Something just seems wrong with that. Hope she's okay, but even so, there's no need to air that segment.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The comment above yours on my feed is taking the Duggars and tlc for only portraying happy times like the weddings and pregnancies. Accusing them of acting like they have no problems. I think that's why it's important to see struggles including health scares. It makes them real. Just my opinion.

      Delete
    2. I can attest to that. My daughter has epelipsy and seized 45 min before they stopped it in the ER. While I agree the poor girl should have some privacy (seizures are very scary) she's probably used to cameras. They have after all been filming her since her birth.

      Delete
    3. This a reality show nothing is private. You have to understand Josie was a micro preemie and a miracle baby and very lucky to be here. With being a micro preemie comes with issues down the road. They have nothing to hide you need to understand they let us come in to there lives and in to there homes watching them grow. We care what happens. No need to judge the Duggars.

  23. @Brooke

Your teenagers are at an age where they begin to form their own ideas about religion. While some see this "rebellion" as something bad that must be squashed, it's really them using their own brains and hearts to make sense of the world and God. Start by asking them what they like and don't like about church and listen honestly. Make it known that its OK to disagree with positions expressed in church. Would they be more comfortable exploring other churches? Would you be comfortable with them exploring other churches?

  24. Dear Duggars family, Little Josie will be in thoughts and prayers that she gets though this.

  25. For everyone attacking the Duggars for posting about Josie's health scare:
They had an episode about Josie having a seizure when she was much younger, so this is no different. They showed their miscarriage as lots can relate. Lots of people have seizures like Josie, so why should they hid it? I think people attacking the Duggars is in bad taste too. Remember they are real people.

    1. If either parent has seizures and wants it filmed, fine. Her seizure is very serious not appropriate for entertainment. She deserves privacy.

  34. We all were part of Josie from her first breath, why wouldn't they include us in Josie's life. She is one of God's miracles. Life down here is hard, things happen, I'm glad they are showing all of us life is no different for the Duggars then what we experience day to day. Some days we laugh some days we cry, life is like that. We need to remember to pray for precious little Josie, and for this God fearing family, who isn't a shame to stand up for their beliefs. They love the lord Jesus and so do I
I love the Duggars and how open their hearts are to share their lives with all of us, knowing many will judge them. Their lives are a testimony for our Savior and Lord Jesus.

  38. I'm sorry that she's hurt, I wouldn't wish any illness or seizure to anyone (especially children), but it should of never been filmed! I'm honestly tired of hearing about this family, what is wrong with living like a normal family and not sharing every little thing with the world?

  43. I find it strange that so many are commenting, "we don't need to see that" yet if something is not covered/filmed/discussed the Duggars get "what are you hiding" "see, I knew everything couldn't be perfect" ugh. This is a family who has chosen to let cameras into their lives. If you don't enjoy their show then stop watching. I refuse to watch anything about the Kardashians et all because it doesn't interest me. Do the same and move on folks. :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Josie is taken to the emergency room with seizures. They show her laying on the hospital bed with oxygen and all hooked up to monitors. Jana is explaining what happened to the cameras. Jana sounds shaken and anxious about her little sister. That's all they show, so we have to tune in to hear the outcome. How about if the Duggers just told us because there are a lot of fellow Chrisitans who genuinely care about the welfare of the children.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Can't wait to see the new season. What has happened I fear is that the producers of TLC have been filming for so long, that they don't realize that the ordinary daily footage of family interaction of the kids is what we all want to see. I am pretty sure all that coverage has been cast on the cutting room floor, since we hardly see that kind of cute footage of the kids daily lives anymore. They think we want to see dramatic events, staged travel, planned trips, crisis, pregnancy announcements and staged engagements- while we do like seeing the weddings and engagements, WE DO want to see just the ordinary daily Josie, Jennifer, Jordan, Johanna, Jason, James, Justin, Jedidiah, Jeremiah footage- it doesn't have to be just an Emergency trip to Hospital, it could be just what we see on the New Bates show, normal interaction.

  62. I think they should be honest about Josie's challenges, I just don't think they are being upfront about this little girl's diagnosis. There seems to be more than they are releasing publicly. I just hope she is getting the help she may need as far as speech therapy, early intervention, etc. That worries me a whole lot more than what they show on tv. She's a darling little girl and she deserves every bit of support and intervention to progress. I've watched the show and clearly she has some concerns, milder developmental delay but intervention like speech and OT could be very important for her. Josie is adorable, every special needs child deserves God's love and the expertise of clinical guidance. Duggars, please keep us posted and let us know how she is doing.

  65. I have some stories to tell about my children's head to the hospital in a dire emergency. This stuff happens in life. It is not such a terrible thing to see this in an episode of the Duggars. It does not mean they have stooped to sensational treatment of serious stuff. Seeing how quickly problems can arise can really inspire people to not just take health for granted but to have action plans ready and responses ready if someone has a crisis. This will be an important episode to see. I am thinking Josie is well again, but send my sympathy and get well wishes out to her. And I would like to acknowledge seeing Jana - being there for her sister in an emergency, good for her.

  66. Josie having a seizure is just part of being a preemie. No all preemies have them but in Josie's case is probably due to her prematurity and showing it on the show can help others with preemies know that are not alone. I had premature boy/girl twins 28 years ago. They were not as tiny as Josie was. My son was fine but my daughter ended up having Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. She is 100 % dependent on me for care. I do it with very little help. The Duggars are very fortunate that Josie is as healthy as she is. Please don't judge them for putting this private moment on the show. It could touch someone in a positive way.

  67. Once a little one suffers a "febrile seizure", they are more prone to having another one.

    ReplyDelete
  68. @Anonymous camera crew i snot allowed to do anything so they do what is told and keep cameras rolling they have to act like they are not even there and if you watch the show it shows how a family lives and that means bad and good thing so sit back and just pray that this sweet little one will be ok

  69. i enjoy your show wish thou you did keep up with everything as far as both girls married it seems you about 8 or 9 months behind as 1 is married ready to have a baby and already had the baby shower the other is all ready married and we see the wedding number 2 this season and baby number 4 for the oldest will be told . jose scary seizure will be show . not the first time that had happen too

    ReplyDelete
  70. I hope it is the Duggar's choice to use Josie's seizure & they are doing it to educate people. TLC used a health scare last season in The Brown's youngest daughter for ratings and the family admitted TLC edited it poorly to scare the audience and make them look like bad parents. Oddly the mom was away and the oldest daughter was taking care of the Truly and now we have Jana taking care of Josie with Michelle gone? I had a premmie and high fevers can cause seizures so my husband and I watched every illness and fever like a hawk. The Duggars have a wonderful platform and audience so I hope they use this illness/seizure to inform viewers about the realities of premmies not for ratings. Since there has been so much coverage on Jill and Jessa I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the family this season.

  71. To ya'll out there: There will always be something to criticize about the Duggar family. Because they're not perfect. They're human like everyone else. I can totally understand those that think Josie's "health scare" shouldn't have been filmed, but in reality is that any of our business? It's their life and they get to make their own choices. If you're looking for something to criticize, you'll always find it if you look hard enough. There will always be something there that's not perfect. Let's choose to look beyond their shortcomings as humans and realize what a blessing their family show is to the world. God bless the Duggars!

  73. All these people saying the health scare should not have been filmed are really not thinking. If it was not filmed they would be saying something is being hidden. I am sure what is allowed to be filmed and not allowed to be filmed is all laid out in the contracts the Duggars signed with TLC. These are media savy people who did not just fall off the turnip truck people. Please also remember that this is reality TV and you likely will see reality. If you do not like this go watch scripted TV

Everyone has to be accountable to God, they need to have their own faith and cant get into the kingdom based on mom's faith. if they love the Lord they will feel convicted and go. remember where 2 or more are gathered He is there... church isn't a building but the believers themselves make up the church. who are you trying to please, God, or your pastor?

  94. I am a HUGE fan of the Duggar family and the show. I love that the Duggars share ALL aspects of their lives. Some comments I've read about them using bad things that happen to their kids as publicity is extremely irritating. It's called life, life happens. They are a blessing to me and my family. My 16 year old daughter watches the show with me, and the older Duggar girls are an inspiration. We just love them. I just wish this show was around when I was 16... Love you guys!

  99. I was very concerned about Josie. I have come to know and respect the Duggers from the very beginning of the show. I wish I could have watched a show like this when I was raising my children. I would have adopted many of their ways on raising children. It's very hard work directing them to a good path. I would have been better for it. What happened to the Bates family I didn't even see them at their weddings.

  101. My heart goes out to little Josie and I pray that she is doing well from her seizure scare. I only saw a brief clip of that frightening time and I can only imagine how terrified Michelle and Jim Bob and the rest of their children felt when she was seizing. She is such a precious gift from God, all children are, and I view each Duggar family member with respect and love simply because they all believe in the Lord and try to abide by His word and they live a Godly life. May God continue to bless you all in the years to come!!!

  103. Josie and all of you are in my prayers! Ive been keeping up with the show and it's great. I really hope Josie is doing better! My little one was in the hospital two weeks ago this Saturday, and is doing awesome, and I know that Josie will pull through this! I'm a young mom and if there's one thing I learned about children is that they are such blessings!

The girls getting married chose to have that personal information aired.

Josie is just five years old, and her parents get to make those decisions. They have every right to say as much or as little as they want! Congrats to the girls, hope all is well with Josie...get better soon! God bless you all!

  108. EXACTLY WHAT I SAID THE OTHER DAY. I AM SURPRISED, THAT NO ONE REMEMBERS WHAT HAD HAPPENED. MICHELLE AND JIMBOB WERE AWAY, I BELIEVE JANA, AND JILL WERE BABYSITTING, AT THAT TIME. I LOOKED THIS INCIDENT ABOUT JOSIE UP, SHE HAD ANOTHER SEIZURE IN FEBRUARY THIS YEAR. I AM WONDERING, WITH ALL HER MEDICAL PROBLEMS SHE HAD, FROM BIRTH, DID THEY MISS SOMETHING, AND THAT MAYBE SHE DEVELOPED EPILEPSY. BUT ANYWAY, THEY SAID BEFORE THE PARAMEDICS EVEN GOT THERE SHE SEIZED FOR 15 MINUTES, SHE WAS STILL SEIZING ALL THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL, AND THE PARAMEDICS HAD SAID SHE WAS BARELY BREATHING. SO IT WAS PRETTY SERIOUS. I AM THINKING THAT WAS A GRANDMA SEIZURE, AND THATS WHY I AM SAYING, MAYBE SHE HAS DEVELOPED EPILEPSY.

  109. @AnonymousYES EVEN MY 4 YEAR OLD GRANDSON LOVE THE DUGGERS. AT THE BEGINNING, WHEN MICHELLE NAMES OFF ALL THE KIDS, HE NAMES THEM ALL ALSO, I MEAN HE CAN'T NAME ALL OF THEM, HE CAN NAME ABOUT 10 OF THEM, BUT HE TRIES SO HARD. HAHA!! BUT GIVE HIM ANOTHER YEAR, AND HE WILL NAME THEM ALL. HIS FAVORITES ARE JOHANNA,JACKSON, AND JOSIE..

  110. God bless this family. My daughter has started experiencing seizures as well. She is currently undergoing testing to find out why. I appreciate that the family is coming out with this episode. For some reason it is comforting to me to see how they are handing the situation that is so similar to our family.

  111. Bless her little soul. That episode made me cry. Its so hard to see a little one go through such a hard event without her parents around. My cousin began having seizures as well recently and he is now on some medicine to prevent them. Hopefully Josie gets the same medication as it is seeming to work for him. Glad she is ok
