First-Time Parents

Katey Duggar and Jedidiah Duggar

Five months after their wedding, Jedidiah and Katey Duggar are looking forward to becoming a family of three! Two days ago, on September 3rd, they announced their pregnancy to their families in a big way. And what's impressive is that they found a unique way to reveal the news that had not already been used by a previous Duggar couple. Baby Duggar is due in spring 2022. The link to Jed and Katey's YouTube video is below.

  1. So they found out on September 1st and announced publicly on September 5th according to the YouTube video. I wonder if they’ve even had a blood test to confirm or an ultrasound to see if the pregnancy is viable.

    1. Of course not. She just used a stick in the Walmart bathroom. What more do you need?

      Delete
    2. I'm puzzled. I mean, it could really not be viable...

      Delete
    3. I don’t understand why some people announce a pregnancy right after they take the test. The test could be wrong and there is a possibility of a miscarriage before 12 weeks.

      Delete
    4. Using a stick in the Walmart bathroom sounds disgusting.

      Delete
    5. Uh, when would they have had time to do that?

      Delete
    6. Really? You hate the duggars that much that you want to insult them for having a baby after getting married? What a weirdo. Chuckle chuckle, Walmart bathroom. Eye roll.

      Delete
    7. Why do they need to see if the pregnancy is viable? It’s her first pregnancy regardless and if she chooses to celebrate it from day one let her be.

      Delete
    8. It says spring 2022. spring starts on the 20th of March 2022 which means she has approximately 6 to 7 months left

      Delete
    9. If you read the notice it says spring 2022 spring does not start until the 20th of March next year so she has approximately 6 to 7 months of pregnancy left

    10. They sound happy but very immature. Of course they are very young to be married and parents-to-be ! Wishing them a peaceful pregnancy.

    11. Congrats to the young couple. I hope all goes well and she stays healthy and virus-free throughout the pregnancy. For her sake and for her child, I hope she has been vaccinated against COVID and everyone has had their DTP adult booster shot. Here, all pregnant women are encouraged to be vaccinated as well as all adults in the family, by public health.

Again, here's wishing her a safe and uneventful pregnancy.

    12. Why would you wonder such a thing???? How about "Congratulations!" or something along those lines instead?

      Delete
    13. Home pregnancy tests are extremely reliable.

      Delete
    14. Was that really a plus sign on the stick? It looked like one dark horizontal line only.

      Delete
    15. Is this a rhetorical question? Who immediately gets in for a doctor's appointment a day or two after taking a pregnancy test? Besides, false positives are rare even in a home pregnancy test. Not sure why you're trying to splash cold water on this announcement.

      Delete
    16. I think they found out a while ago…He said coming in April and she covered it by saying spring. They just wanted to be dramatic. But that’s my opinion. Who really knows.

      Delete
    17. Looks like setting up an elaborate reveal was what was important.

      Delete
    18. Why would you take a prego test inside Walmart bathroom? Weird. Just wait till you get home…

      Delete
    19. It's not that weird, 6:59. She said she needed to go to the bathroom, anyway. She had the test right there with her. Why not?

      Delete
    20. I used the Kroger's bathroom to take a pregnancy test so I could surprise my hubby easier :)

      Delete
    21. I used a public bathroom to take a few pregnancy test. It's no different than having it done in a hospital/clinic bathroom or unless you are doing it by blood test.

      Delete
    22. With all of my pregnancies I used a public bathroom to take my pregnancy tests because if the + sign came up, I would be already out and about at the store to find ways to surprise my husband :D

      Delete
    23. @ 8:17PM Why not? Public bathrooms are dirty !!

      Delete
    24. 2:54 - they said on the first part of the video that they took the test the night of September 1st.

      Delete
    25. No, 4:30, finding out that they're pregnant was what was important. Having an announcement made at a game is not "elaborate."

      Delete
    26. 4:52, they're several years into their 20s. "Very young to be married," not really.

      Delete
    27. 11:05, so wash your hands afterwards. You should do that anyway.

      Delete
    28. She is a young healthy woman, she was not feeling for a while, so she suspected it could be pregnancy. She went to do a pregnancy test, and it said positive. Probably she did a few tests too, not just one. Why all these concerns?? Be happy for them!

      Delete
    29. @7:54 "They announced their pregnancy to their families in a big way." Says so right up there. Big. I don't call making a special trip to buy an announcement board, a tripod for the phone, and then arranging everything with the ballpark ahead of time anything less than elaborate. Big, elaborate, what's the difference. They didn't simply call their parents and say guess what.

      Delete
    30. I can one size ya'll up and say I found out I was pregnant in a porta potty during a camping trip lol.

      Delete
    31. I chose to announce my pregnancies early. My sister chose to wait to announce hers. There is no wrong on waiting or not waiting.

      Delete
    32. 7:59, they are not several years into their 20s. They are 22 and 23.
Very young, and the fact that they announced it without verifying if it was indeed true is definitely a proof of immaturity.

April 2022 means it was coinceived in July, wich means that she could be anywhere from 5 to 8 weeks pregnant.

      Delete
    33. 22 and 23 are not "very young" unless you're on the older side yourself. Also "definitely a proof of immaturity" is only your opinion. Many women announce on the basis of a home test alone. If you do a little Google search you'll learn that home pregnancy tests are rarely wrong when positive. The blood test done at the doctor is usually just a formality to confirm a positive test. Deciding when to announce is strictly a matter of personal preference, not maturity. Calling someone else immature when it's a matter of personal preference is actually name calling, which some see as immature behavior.

      Delete
    34. 2:35, elaborate means involving many careful planned details. You make a phone call to arrange the ball game announcement. You go to Walmart and take pictures. Neither involves many details.

      Delete
  2. Congratulations to them! Kim

  3. It's their baby. If they want to announce it early they can. Their baby, their choice :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Of course they can. It’s just, one wound think they would want to confirm everything is well before announcing in such a public platform.

      Delete
    2. Yes it is their choice, but if you announce a pregnancy so early you have to prepare for the possibility to announce a miscarriage as well.

      Delete
    3. They might be the kind of people that wouldn’t wanna grieve alone if they did have a miscarriage…. I found it very hard not to talk about our loss at 6 1/2 weeks along but it was possibly also in part because that was already at least our 5th loss, as well as the fact that it was a full 4 years since our previous child was born (and only 2 living children)

      Delete
    4. Right, congrats to them!

      Delete
    5. Exactly!! Every woman goes through that "what if" but it all comes down to a personal choice. It's not wrong to announce pregnancy early or later. Personally I would wait but I'm not going to tell anyone else they have to do the same.

      Delete
  4. A bit early to announce, bit I understand their excitement... Congrats to them

  6. Congratulations! I really enjoyed watching their wedding video. They seem well-suited to one another and look like they are enjoying a very happy marriage.

  7. So they literally just found out? And announced it without even a doctor's visit? I mean, this could theoretically not even be true, these tests get it wrong sometimes...

    ReplyDelete

    1. Tests are usually right these days. It's rare for it to be wrong. And she's due in spring so she's probably a little bit further along than this video.

  9. Why did they have to announce so early? It’s not like she is a princess who has to cancel appearances because of hyperemesis.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because they wanted to. 🙄

      Delete
    2. Who said they had to? They wanted to. Their choice to make.

      Delete
  10. You can tell just by this announcement that they are very immature. A mature couple will not announce a pregnancy just days after a positive pregnancy test. They will wait until after the miscarriage risk goes down and is confirmed by a doctor.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. A mature couple either waits and immediately announcing the pregnancy because everyone is different.

      Delete
    2. I would not say a mature couple would do that but a couple who has experienced a miscarriage after announcing would been more carful to not announce until the baby is 12 weeks or more.

      Delete
    3. We never waited to announce it when we were expecting. I didn’t have any miscarriages. Not everyone will. It doesn’t increase or decrease the risk by making an announcement. It is their child, and they can tell everyone when they want.

      Delete
    4. That is just not true and unkind. "Mature" people are allowed to make their own decisions about when to tell people.

      Delete
    5. There is nothing to do with maturity. They are happy people, who are happy that they got pregnant and want to share it!

      Delete
    6. A mature couple chooses how and when they want to announce their pregnancy. A immature couple let's people like you choose for them.

      Delete
    7. I can't believe how many people here pick apart every little thing the Duggars do. You can't just be happy for them? How many people have agreed with your own decisions that you made, especially when you were younger? I find the posters here hyper-critical and sometimes just plain ridiculous.

      Delete
    8. 5:38, it is absolutely ridiculous. Especially calling them "immature" because they announced on the basis of the pregnancy test alone. Many pregnant women do that, and false positives are rare.

      Delete
    9. Most couples I know keep the news personnel until 12 weeks, if not longer. They tell their immediate family members (parents and siblings) and their close friends first and then tell others latter. Extended family members (like aunts, uncles, cousins) might not hear the news until after the child is born, especially if they are not part of the couple's daily life.
Announcing on social media, with a You-Tube video, would appear to be attention-seeking.

  14. It's the couple choice rather they want to announce their pregnancy early or later on. It's their choice and nobody can make it for them. Of course anything these people do will trigger others even if they breathe the wrong way lol. I understand why some women wait to announce later on to make sure everything is okay and I also understand why some women want to announce it early because they are happy and want to share it with the world. There is no wrong way. Everyone is different. Let them be happy.

I was a bit shock for a while. But not as shocked when I found I was pregnant again with my second child when my baby was only 3 months old. The birth control pill and devices did not work for me lol.

    5. I was already pregnant when I got married. You can do it that way too. If other people couldn't accept it, too bad, they weren't in our lives any more if they were going to act narrow-minded. I had no regrets at all.

    6. I was married about 3 months when I found out. My husband read the side effects of the pill and said let's take our chances. Our chance was baptized on our first anniversary. After that I did go on the pill.

    7. My second is our honeymoon baby, we agreed to try for another child after we got married we just didn't think it would happen so quickly. We got married 8-18-18 and our youngest son's birthday is 5-30-19. It was a shock like I said with my husband's work schedule we figured it wouldn't happen for a few months.

I notice most couples don’t announce pregnancy until after the first trimester, but it seems lately, couples are announcing it like immediately. Which is fine. Back in my day, we’d all announce it the minute we found out, it’s exciting and hard to keep that secret from family.

  28. I'm surprised they continue to announce publicly pregnancies so early. Recent years this family have shown how many miscarriages happen in the early weeks. There is a reason why most wait until after 12 weeks to go public albeit they've told very close friends and family. It just adds more stress to losing a precious baby early on. Having said all that I pray all goes well with this pregnancy.

    1. I had 4 miscarriages. 3 of them I announced early and 1 kept to myself but ended up having to tell people I was pregnant. It was easier for me and a lot of other women I knew to announce the pregnancy early even if it ended in miscarriage. That 4th miscarriage was hard because it felt like I was super alone. Everyone is different and has a personal preference on this. Nobody can make the choice for the couple.

      Delete
    2. It's not that surprising. People announce pregnancies when they decide it is best for THEM and what THEY want to do.

      Delete
    3. I'm not surprised. It's their personal choice.

      Delete
  29. It's up to them if they want to announce their pregnancy early or later. It's not up to anyone else to decide. I understand why people like to wait later but if the pregnancy ends in miscarriage, sooner or later people are going to find out. I never regretted telling my pregnancies early even though one did end in miscarriage. I cherish that moment of happiness and excitement before losing it :') It made me happy to see other people happy for the arrival but it also helped when people cried with us over the lost.

  30. It's weird how people issue with everything these Duggars do. It's almost like they want to control them. But then again, maybe it's not weird because you have those controlling family members on FB too that keeps up with you and want you to do stuff their way. While they are so busy watching you, they don't deal with their miserable lives or watch what their own children are doing lol. I hope ya'll know how toxic your behavior is rather you are doing this to public people or people on your FB friends list. It's a cry for help actually. Katey and Jedidiah can do whatever they want - even announcing their pregnancy early or later. It's not your body. It's not your baby. It's not your life.

  33. Congratulations to them. I just think they could have used more discretion when talking about using the restroom. Also, a big announcement at a baseball stadium does not seem appropriate. This seems like a time when they might consider staying below the radar of the public eye. They should be able to celebrate among themselves, but drawing so much attention seems inappropriate right now.

    1. I don't think it's inappropriate. Why should they let Josh overshadow their lives? That's punishing them from going about their lives when they did nothing wrong.

    2. Are you from the Edwardian era? Nobody thinks it's weird to talk about restroom or have announcement ANYWHERE. It's their choice and you can't decide it for them or anyone.

      Delete
    3. What do you mean it's not appropriate time right now? I really don't understand your comment at all. Forgive me but I am assuming you are older judging by some of the things you said. Unless you are here to complain about what the Duggar's do. "Bathroom" and "restroom" is okay to say. Everyone using the toilet. I understand back in your time it was probably powder room or whatever. It's completely normal these days. I know a lot of women who took pregnancy tests in stores and public restrooms versus home. Also announcing a pregnancy can be done everywhere. Not just in the homes. It's 2021 :)

      Delete
    4. Oh my goodness, is this because Jed said pee? We all go.

      Delete
    5. @8:33 first off let me explain a powder room is a bathroom with just a toilet and sink, no tub or shower. Some call it half a bath. Why say someone is older because they don't agree with using a public bathroom to do a pregnancy test? I don't know about where you live but I've never been in a totally clean WalMart bathroom. @4:28 they probably announced it so early to take some attention off of Josh.

      Delete
    6. You looked at their video, cause your curious too! Strange behavior, for a person who says they should live more privately! 😂

      Delete
    7. 4:28 -- I understand your point, and in my opinion, it's more refined to say "I had to use the restroom," than "I had to pee." Again, this is MY OPINION and how I would say it.

      Delete
    8. 7:21, agree it is more refined, but our culture isn't exactly refined.

    3. Different Anonymous here, but I've never heard of anyone and never known anyone who took a pregnancy test in a public bathroom. I think most women take it at home ("Home Pregnancy Test"). ;) As for keeping it a surprise from your husband, that's really not all that difficult. You buy the test when you go to the store by yourself and you take it after he leaves for work...not too hard. LOL Nobody should be dissin' anyone else for not taking it a public restroom. Seriously, my local Walmart bathrooms are dirty, not too well-stocked, with a steady stream of women and children coming, going, and waiting not too patiently in line...Definitely not some place I want to run in and take a pregnancy test (but to each their own). Not to be stupid either, but every test I've ever seen needs to lay flat for a few minutes (not a whole lot of options for that in a germy public restroom and potentially kind of gross for the rest of the people using that stall after you).

      Delete
    4. I found out that I was pregnant with my third child in a McDonald's bathroom stall. I had gone to Walmart first and decided I didn't want to wait until I got home, so I went to the closest place, which happened to be McDonald's.

      Delete
    5. 9:11, well, several people have already commented that they've also done it in a public restroom and we're just a small sample of the general public, so apparently it's not that uncommon.

    6. I found out I was pregnant at a Taco Bell bathroom lol. You can tell people are trying so hard now to pick at the Duggars. I never read anywhere on the directions of the pregnancy box said AT HOME ONLY 🤣

    8. I agree about Jed. Since he ran for office and wasn’t featured much on the show, I just assumed he was one of the more mature men on the show. Granted, he was excited, but for some reason, he struck me as goofy. I did like what he said about the reveal, that's having to explain it to everyone was sort of a let down, like having to explain a joke. But he is sincerely happy.

    9. Just because someone shows class they now are from the Victorian era? Good grief! - Lori

  38. I found out I was pregnant with my first baby at a Wal-Mart restroom too lol.

    1. Did you have the baby there too? Are you Natalie Portman?? lol

    2. Testing in a public restroom doesn't mean you have the baby in the same place.🙄

  39. It's funny how people say the Duggar family needs to be more modern but yet ya'll say what they are doing right now regards in the announcement is not appropriate or mature. You guys sound like the people from the Victorian era or Edwardian era where you are acting. Everyone has a choice to announce it early or later, or however they want even at a baseball field. You want to walk them by the hand and tell them what to do? lol. I feel sorry for these people who have children. You'll be walking them by the hand until the day you croak.

    1. I see your point but you really are overusing “Victorian and Edwardian Era.” Once was an appropriate reference. Three times looks like you just like saying it.

    2. PREACH! These trolls on here are crazy.

      Delete
  40. Here comes the miserable life police people saying "they shouldn't had done that" or "I don't think that's inappropriate". Nobody is telling you your way is wrong, so don't be telling them.

  41. So Jessa's baby Fern was #21 grandchild, Anna's will be #22, and now Jed's will be #23? I wonder who will be next to announce a pregnancy. Lauren, Abbie or Claire?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Duggar name carries on! It will be a Duggar Duggar grandchild # what? 13?

    ReplyDelete
  43. What's with all the comments referencing the Victorian or Edwardian era? Hello History buffs? You wouldn't be announcing it all publicly in either era (and as a matter of fact you'd be more or less confined to your home for the duration of the pregnancy (which makes your put-downs seem kind of silly). LOL While some people do a pregnancy test in the Walmart bathroom, most don't.

    1. Who cares?? Pee on the pregnancy test where ever you want. Wheres your proof that most people don't take a test in a public bathroom? Most people I do because guess what a hospital, clinic or doctor office is considered public and filled with germs to confirm your pregnancy so it's a little funny we got pregnancy test police on here.

      Delete
    2. I'm sorry is there a rule you can't use it in a bathroom? I took all my pregnancy tests in a public bathroom and most of my friends did too. Also nobody can tell, especially a pregnant woman with raging hormones when she can announce her pregnancy. That's up to her. You obviously never been pregnant or a mother. Somebody tells me I can't announce my pregnancy, it's too early --- I'm gonna do it early just to tick people like you off. People need a little bit of happiness. I'm sure they are well aware of miscarriage risks. Every pregnant woman is so get over it.

  44. Congratulations to them, it was a really sweet video! They’re just so very excited that they’re expecting their first baby! They wanted to do it in a unique way and they did! What precious memories they will have! We should not take the thrill that they feel away from them by telling them they’re immature. They were so good to John and Abby‘s little girl, They were a loving aunt and uncle to her taking her to the game like that!
God bless them! Unfortunately there is no more show to make their announcement on so I’m so glad they chose this route! We need to all be praying for them and the safe delivery of their baby! Also Carlin is due at around the same time!🙏‼️

  48. I also wanted to say, with all the bad stuff that happening in the world, I'm glad to hear some good news for a change.

  49. They said on the show 2019 was a baby boom for newborn grandchildren with four babies born that year but that's nothing compared to what's coming, the more duggars get married the more grandchildren arriving the same year maybe starting from next year and increasing as more get married, I'm guessing next year there could be six births and the parents I'm guessing will be:(to shorten it I'll mention the Duggar but obviously I include the spouses)John,Joe, Josiah,Joy,Jedediah and Justin, that would keep this blog busy with all the announcements of pregnancies, gender reveal and births!

  50. Kate and Jed, I am sooooo happy for U 2!!!!! The Start!!!! Kate please take good care of yourself, and put your feet up!!!!! I love U 2!!!!!

  51. I watched the video and, tbh, I didn't see plus on test. If she's due in April plus should be clearly visible, shouldn't it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe she calculated the due date herself and it was an inaccurate calculation. I doubt they had been to the doctor at that point, maybe when they go the doctor will calculate a more exact due date.

      Delete
    2. I didn't see plus either, I saw one line.

      Delete
    3. I didn't either, but it was hard to get a good look in the video. It has to have been there, though, or they wouldn't be announcing a pregnancy.

      Delete
    4. I was able to calculate my due dates when I was pregnant and mine was actually right. My doctor was wrong every time lol.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, I wasn't seeing it either, but sometimes the line is faint. I'm in a moms group where people are always posting their pics with a faint positive line. I think we can be sure they could see it, or we wouldn't have a pregnancy post here.

    6. 9:32, no need to go to the doctor to calculate a due date, Internet calculators do a wonderful job as long as you know the first day of your last period. Thank you Internet!

      Delete
    7. 6:51 - yes but sometimes the doctor will change the due date based on the ultrasound measurements

  52. Congratulations! They can announce how they want, where they want and when they want. I m Just happy for them.

  53. Wow. Every life event just "has" to be made controversial in some way. You all must live boring lives to get excitement out of creating controversy where there is none. 😄

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It isn’t controversy. People just wonder sometimes, that’s it.

      Delete
    2. No, people are calling them immature, complaining about where she took the test, complaining that they announced too early. None of that was wondering, it was criticizing.

      Delete
    3. I agree. It’s not a controversy. Not like “pants vs dresses” lol. People are just commenting. Although I will say, ever since Josh was arrested, people seem unfairly more nit-picky of the family.

      Delete
    4. 9:33, I am not referring to any "wondering" comments. I'm referring to all the comments complaining about how they announced and where they announced and where she took the test. Those things are all part of Jed and Katey's story, not decisions that need to be criticized. People just need to let other people make their own decisions and live their own lives without feeling like they need to go around correcting them. Who needs that?

      Delete
    5. I gather they had run out of home test kits and had gone to Walmart to buy more and couldn't wait until they got back home to use one. lol

    6. Because the haters want the attention. If they aren't starting drama, the Duggar's get all the attention.

  54. Congrats to Jed and Katey! But poor Katey hasn't earned a spot on the header of this blog yet!

  55. For the gender reveal they can have Lawson Bates fly his MedicCorps helicopter over the baseball field and drop a bunch of confetti on the players and stands.

  56. Maybe she can give birth in Wal-Mart too. Someone made a movie about that 20 years ago.

    1. Ha - I choked on my coffee with that one!

    2. Why not. Then the family could buy baby supplies for them afterwards....

  57. If everyone is to wait until you know the pregnancy is viable then I guess the only correct way is after you give birth. I told everyone as soon as I found out both times. The second was twins and one was stillborn at 35weeks so guess should kept that one a secret huh.

    1. I’m pretty sure they people just mean checking to see if it isn’t an ectopic pregnancy, anembryonic pregnancy, or something similar.

  58. Maybe Walmart will see that video and start providing "Am I Pregnant?" bathrooms with free tests for couples who can't wait to find out. Do your test, then go to the baby department to register. What perfect PR.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Congrats Jed and Katey! So happy and excited for you both! Praying for a healthy pregnancy and delivery!

  60. Congrats! After watching the whole video I think it was a fun baby announcement. The ball game reminded me of the local team we watch here. Lots of locals who know each other sitting together for an evening. Most of the announcements are for small businesses and things like that. So it's a neat way to share the news.

  61. Wow. I thought they had enough sense to stay off U Tube. Oh well, how to embarrass your children in one easy lesson.

  62. I suffered multiple miscarriages and it always seemed easier for me to tell people in the early days of pregnancy. I will always remember the support team I had with those miscarriages. It was better than going through it alone with my husband. But I think people need to stop judging those who decide to announce it early as I am sure miscarriage is in the back of their mind already. There is to many women putting down other women these days for how they go on with their pregnancy or even get criticized for not breastfeeding. Just because someone doesn't do something how you would do it doesn't make it wrong. I am so happy for them and I wish them nothing but the best.

  63. Why do they think it's OK to make fun of positive Covid tests? My friend's son had to get tested yesterday because of an exposure at school. It's not right to connect a pregnancy test in any way with a Covid test. That letterboard is upsetting.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have been sick with covid for almost 4 weeks and it doesn't upset me.

      Delete
    2. @4:07 I absolutely agree. Why would you think of Covid testing at all. Lack of discretion.

      Delete
    3. I agree. They are wrong to act like Covid is not a serious illness that has killed so many and left others with permanent heart and lung damage.

      Delete
    4. I don't think its right for you to dramatize your friends son situation like that unless he tests positive and is actually showing symptoms. I had covid twice and its horrible.

      Delete
    5. It's literally a sign of the times. The vast majority of people who test positive will, in fact, recover.
