Sale on the Vuolos' Book

Jeremy Vuolo and Jinger Vuolo, 2017

As we shared several days ago, Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo's new book, "The Hope We Hold," was released last week. Have you had a chance to read it? What did you think? Or if you haven't picked it up yet, do you plan to? If you still want to buy a copy, Amazon is having a sale, and the book is currently listed for less than $17.

    3. I won’t be watching anymore Counting On shows or older 19 Kids and Counting shows.
Nor will I read any future books written by any family members.
Their show has run its course. In my opinion, it’s time for all family members to bow out gracefully and attempt to lead quiet lives in peace.
lead quiet lives, at least for the near future.

    5. @9:36 The Vuolos should read what we write because they could learn something from us.

  5. Sincere question for cynics, why? Why are you so cynical about Jeremy and Jinger? Not everything is a money grabbing scheme. Why do you doubt they would write a book out of a sincere wish to encourage people? You obviously don’t have to read it, but why not give them the benefit of the doubt? Why assume the worst of them?

    1. Why would I pay for something I have no interest in reading?

      Delete
    2. Because they are not giving it away to people but selling.

      Delete
    3. With Jeremy it appears to be. They try so very hard to stay famous. It’s very clear Jeremy is chasing fame. That is a turn-off in my book.

      Delete
    4. Not being interested doesn’t necessarily mean cynical. I prefer to read about people who fascinate or inspire me. I’m simply indifferent to the Vuolos.

      Delete
    5. What kind of encouragement do you expect people to get from their courtship story? How many people can relate to that? If you're talking about the miscarriage, there are tons of good books already on that subject, written by experts in the field.

      Delete
    6. I think they probably want to encourage people and share their story while also making money. Writing a book and getting is published is work. They’d hope to be compensated for their work and find some success with it personally as well. This is the American dream! Nothing evil here folks

      Delete
    7. If it wasn't about making money then they would have shared this information on their podcast. Of course it was about money. Everything about them is about money so they can live the LA lifestyle they love so mch.

      Delete
    8. I'd be cynical of any 27 year old with no worldly experience writing about anything.

      Delete
    9. Have you noticed? Not one public congratulatory comment for Derick on his graduation! However, they want people to praise and congratulate them on their book. It appears to be all about the Vuolo’s.

      Delete
    10. You're assuming that people who have no interest in reading the Vuolo's book have an axe to grind with them. For me, it's simply a matter of indifference. I have no particular feelings one way or the other about them and wouldn't spend the money or time reading their book.

      Delete
    11. @9:35 Except "they" didn't write it. A third person did. A publisher came to them with an idea, someone interviewed them, someone wrote it up, and the publisher published it with their pictures on the cover. If their name wasn't on the book, would you have bought a book written by that third person, whose name is in tiny print?

      Delete
    12. There is absolutely nothing wrong with writing a book for money. The choice to buy it is yours. You do as you do with any book. Read a synopsis then decide if you want to read it or not.

      Delete
    13. To 8:44 - You don't have to be an expert at something in order to contribute and have something to offer. The best miscarriage info comes from people who have been through it themselves, not people with degrees who write about it.

      Delete
    14. @4:19 I know right, law school is not easy and graduating form law school or any other institution of higher education is worthy of accolades. This just shows you that this family does not value education and would rather congratulate a couple with a flop book who only got a book deal for being who they are.

      Delete
    15. 9:41 it comes from a wide range of experience and expertise. My mother had 6 kids and after 3 miscarriages myself the best advice/comfort she could offer was, “keep trying.” After 7 additional years of that we sought professional help and found the why. So much time wasted and guilt.

  6. Not right now. Congratulations on the book. Why hasn't anything been said about Derricks graduation from law school? Congratulations Derick!!!

  9. No, the excepts online were enough. It's things already shared or else Jinger trying to explain her feelings, most of which were how she froze or was confused or scared, and Jeremy saying how he pushed and pressured her and her family anyway to get what he wanted. That's not the kind of "hope" I want to read more about.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I felt that the exerpts I read showed issues with the family's way of life, and Jinger's resulting insecurities. I think they meant her stories as a positive spin, but I did not see it that way. For example, as an adult in her early 20's, she had to wait several months to find out if her parents "approved" of Jeremy. That is way too controlling and treating her like a child who couldn't think for herself.

      Delete
    2. Why would you have to seek that kind of approval from your parents? If you think someone is right for you, find out yourself. My kids dated people and I didn't say a word one way or the other. I let them figure out whether to end the relationship or continue it. I was not getting involved in that, no siree. Being able to make up your mind and justifying your reasons is an important adult skill you have to learn on your own. Finding a spouse can be trial and error, but you learn extremely valuable lessons from those errors. Jim Bob is way too protective and all it does is make nervous girls who have to run to their father for help because they don't know they have their own strength and can make their own decisions.

      Delete
    3. I agree 11:21. That story was not comfortable to read about.

      Delete
    4. Yet they're supposed to be mature enough to get married! I don't get that. If you can't decide without this level of control, approval, and input from your parents, you aren't ready.

      Delete
    5. Anon 11:21. What did you expect from Jinger? The ONLY member of this family that picked a spouse without first seeking parental approval was John. He just informed the family that he and Abbie were going to get married. The rest of the spouses had to "run the gauntlet" to pass JB's inspection. lol

I had no idea what they went thru before marriage ....It’s sad to see what Jim Bob did to Jeremy but it sure showed Jeremy’s character and you can see the love Jeremy and Jinger have for each other ... I really don’t see this in the other marriages ....Jim Bob always seemed to put Jeremy down or belittle him in some way... way to controlling. I finished the book the night I received it so now I’m going to read it again ... Jinger and Jeremy just have a sweet spirit surrounding them. God has them right where they need to be🙏

    3. I haven’t read the book, so this is just a guess based on comments here. I feel like Jinger went from being controlled by one dominate male to another. Jinger seems easy to control, so I hate to see anyone taking advantage of that.

The next time you start bad mouthing self-employment, remember that someone took a risk to be self-employed in order for YOU to even have a job period. Without someone taking that risk, YOU won't even have a job at all.

    3. @9:32 You don't have to buy the book to read that incident. It's online. She didn't understand why she froze and was so scared and unable to commit further. 41. At this point in time. I am far more interested in watching Jill and her very support husband find their way out of the dysfunctional Duggar family and lead emotionally healthy lives and are courageous for having started that journey. So far, the Vuolos seem to just be trying to cash in on the Duggar name while the Dillards are trying to stay away from it. But I still like the Vuolos as a nice couple. They just haven't done anything that warrants a book.

    1. I disagree. I think the Dillards are cashing in on the Duggar name, just in a different way.

      Delete
  42. Not sure if I plan on reading the book for several reasons, but none of it is associated to the recent events with Josh being arrested. One is because my family isn't interested in the Duggar family anymore since they started to fall away from their Christian faith and values and started to believe and embrace some of today's Christian values like wearing shorter skirts, reading the modern versions of the Bible, and listening to Christian Contemporary music and playing and singing it following the events 6 years ago. Another thing is that I am sort of skeptical on how Jinger and Jeremy speak about their faith and the name of their podcast and book "The Hope We Hold" sounds like their fake Christian's and like they act false religious people of today like Joel and Victoria Olstene and they think it's ok for women to act like men and hold positions in the church like a pastor or deacon. And Jinger has really fallen away from her family's beliefs and embraced modern Christianity (though I respect her decision to wear pants because me and my family do and there is nothing biblically wrong with it) and ever since she got married has acted more feminist. So I may or may not read it,we will see. -H.P. from CO

  43. Only 3 years to do a law degree? It takes five in Australia, then you have to sit a bar exam on top of that.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In the US, there are three types of degrees for law: you can graduate from college and then go to grad school which is 3 extra years, a merged program, where you do a bachelor's and masters together, or a year round program where you do the first but the masters program does not take off for summer or winter breaks.

But keep in mind, most law students that graduate spend a year training at a law firm (not praticing) and study for the year to pass the bar.

      Delete
    2. Derick had to complete a bachelor's degree, which is a four year degree, before going to law school. Derick, I believe graduated 10 years ago with a bachelors in accounting. Yes, Derick will still have to sit for the bar exam.

      Delete
    3. In the us you have to have another degree before going to law school. Law school is a post graduate degree. In my country, Colombia, law is an undergraduate degree so it does take 5 years

      Delete
    4. Derick did have a four-year undergrad degree, which maybe helped reduce a 4-yr law degree down to 3. He will still have to article and take the Bar exam.

      Delete
    5. 10:21, 4 years undergrad then 3 years law school. After that you sit for that bar exam.

      Delete
    6. He has to write the bar exams.

Here (not the US),our programs mesh with those in Australia. I checked; no difference. Our law schools do exchanges with Australian law schools. Three years for a LD and 4 years for a LLD. Then, you have to article and write the Bar Exam. Some of our students go to Australia to earn their law degrees. These are students who typically did not earn a place in our highly competitive law schools. They can come back and write their bar exams here (provided they find an articling position which is very difficult).

Derick will have to article at a law firm and then passed the Bar Exam before he can call himself a lawyer.

  50. Ellie - Did you shut down your Nashville Wife blog? I haven’t been able to read it for the past few days. When I hit the link on “More Blogs”, it brings me to a sign in page.

  51. I bought the book on Audible. It was great to hear their story ready by Each of them. I was astounded at all that Jeremy went through with Jim
bob to be able to even get to know Jinger and what a stumbling block his Calvinism was

    1. Why do Christians have disagreements like that on the fine points of theology? Where do they get the idea that only ONE idea ("theirs") is the "right" one? That has always bothered me about religion. Nobody has all the answers.

  52. Good luck on the book sales. With the current climate and the Duggars, I would not spend my hard earned money to support any of them. However, I do wish the Vuoles the best of luck.

  53. No, I don't feel I need inspiration from 20/30-somethings who had to overcome the emotional hurdle of whether to get married on TV or not.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Why? Reality TV star meets former pro athlete. After a few run ins with her over bearing father they get married and live happily ever after.

  55. I highly recommended you read...the title of the book has such a deeper meaning once you've read it. It's real and honest and healing. To be that open and honest true testimonies of God's never changing love!!!! Grace and Mercy, Peace and Love

  56. I would like to see this couple stop using Jinger's fame to make money. After observing their lifestyle in LA, however, it's hard to imagine Jeremy ever working as a lowly pastor serving a church again.

    1. It's hard to imagine Jeremy doing anything that would satisfy his ego if he didn't have Jinger and her family's famous name to get him there.

    2. To May 11 @11:28.... You do realize Jeremy has a Job and is studying at the Masters Seminary??? You really don’t know anything about them... so their “Lifestyle” in LA offends you? Sightsee and going out to burger and pizza places as a family is wrong... wow... that’s what families do ... now go observe elsewhere... because you can’t observe something if you’re not there...move in

    3. Yeah. I think they're shooting for bigger things than Jeremy being a pastor in a small church.

  57. I would like to read it, but in Canada it's over $30. Too bad it's not available in paperback to make it more affordable. I'll check our library.

    1. In Canada, do they have the discounted price on Kindle? In US kindle it's 12.99.

  58. It's just too bad that the whole Duggar family is going to get tarnished because of Josh. I think it's very unfair.

    1. Many families have a member (or maybe more than one) who is problematic and causes heartache and embarrassment to the family, however their bad behavior doesn't threaten anyone else's livelihood. Not so with the Duggars as their family is so tied to the image they project they are put in this spot of having the loss of their livelihood by the actions ONE family member.

    2. I think it's too bad that the family got involved with reality TV in the first place. When you put yourselves out in the public arena, you're going to be a target- especially when there's scandal.

    3. If they hadn't spend years marketing themselves as some sort of unit that probably wouldn't have happened.

  59. Hi Ellie,

I can't access your website Nashville Wife. It keeps asking for a password.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't have anything against them, and I wish them the very best, but I don't plan to buy the book.

    ReplyDelete
  61. No, I will not read the book. The "About" section of their website alone turns me off with the bragging about being "the break out stars" and having amassed a large gathering even though it's so difficult to stand out in the Duggar family. How arrogant! I have no desire to feed their egos and their wishes for fame by buying their book. Nor will I reward people who are not actually working for their money but instead relying on cameras and the money of other people to get by.

Here is the About section of their website if anyone is wondering: "Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo have become the breakout stars of TLC's hit show Counting On. While it’s challenging to stand out in a family with 19 kids – not to mention numerous spouses and grandchildren – Jinger and Jeremy have managed to amass a large following as they live out their faith and family values in Los Angeles, The couple's biggest blessing has been raising their 15-month-old daughter, Felicity, who captures the hearts of their loyal fans everywhere."

    1. It's not accurate because they're shielding Felicity and her little sister from those "loyal fans" now.

    2. What “amassed large gathering” are they referring to?

    3. Amy- That About Section does scream ego to me. Break-out starts? Good grief.

    4. Guessing a publicist wrote that.

    5. That's a crazy stretch.

    8. @1:34 I'm certainly not jealous of people who embellish the truth.

  63. I loved the book, found out more about their romance, it was a fun read, I really enjoyed it and hope they write a second one! You can't blame the other family members because of one bad apple in the family. Everyone has something going on in their life that they may not be proud of but since they are in the public eye you hear lies too about things that may not of happen or the truth is stretched out and people believe it! I'm not talking about Josh, I'm sure he did wrong but you can't blame the parents they did what they believe would help him, it's not Anna's fault or his silbings. We all make mistakes we are all not perfect!

    1. 11:15 Nope, none of us are perfect. However, Josh has been charged with a serious and henious crime. That's a far stretch from just making a "mistake."

    2. What Josh did was not a “mistake” it was a felony!!!!!!

  64. No, not interested in their story, but i would gladly but a book from Jill and Derick! They seem so authentic and really happy about what they achieve! And come on, law school with 2 small kids is really impressive! Way to go! I hope that Jill will consider a nurse degree ♥️

    2. Jill and Dereck’s story is the story of most middle class Americans who have gone to school to better themselves. I am more interested in reading stories of people who choose a different path. It’s not that I support a lifestyle like JimBob and Michelle’s because I don’t. It’s just that it’s not a story like every other.

    3. That is not Jeremy's real hair by the way and it's not the only thing touched up for the cover. I don't see why you can't have your true image on the cover of your book.

  66. I would like to read it, but won't be paying money to do so.

  67. Not interested in their "romance" and how JB acted out. Guess they're trying to find another way to make a living now that the TV show is fading away. I do wonder how much longer they plan on living rent free in the house owned by the church in LA though.

  68. Ellie, why can't I read your blog anymore? Is it under construction or will you be no longer using it anymore?

  69. I'm here to congratulate Derick on his graduation from law school. I don't understand why that announcement hasn't been made on this site.

  70. My personal to do list has gotten really, really long. But that does not mean I would not want to read their book too. Sometimes others journeys are encouraging and enlightening. I look forward to reading it yet.

  71. Ok Duggars. Ive been a devoted fan for YEARS but cannot STAND the attention and favoritism for Jeremy and Jinger because they are quiet and under your thumb.

Poor Derick and Joy - who have taken a stand for truth also. Not good Jim-Bob and Michelle.
