  1. Thats wonderful! Congrats to them and its a sweet name.

  2. Congratulations. Grace Annette is a beautiful name. There were so many guesses that the airplane theme would continue and "Amelia" would be her name, but that's nice that she's named after the two middle names.
Good sized baby, after all of Abbie's morning sickness.
Congratulations!!! First baby of the new year.

    1. I think naming a baby after some unrelated woman named Amelia would be foolish. Even if that woman was flying planes.

    2. 12:20 I see nothing wrong with naming a child after a notable person, if you like the name anyway. You must think the Seewalds are foolish.

  18. If Grace had waited two days she could have shared a birthday with the future Queen of England.

    1. That would have been sweet anon 6.53. Kate’s birthday seemed to be spoilt somewhat by the fact the Sussexes decided to announce their withdrawal from the royal family on Kate’s birthday. They didn’t even let our Queen, or Harry’s father & brother what they were doing. As someone who loves our royal family & thought the marriage of Harry & Meghan a wonderful thing for the family, now I’m just sad at the way the Queen at the grand age of 93 has been treated. This couple seem to always put some sort of statement out that’s contentious on a major day in a family members life, poor. Kate probably had her day ruined as all attention was in H & M.

      Delete
    2. Fuzzyferet,
I agree I feel so sorry for Kate that this happened right before her birthday. I am pretty sure that a lot of people in this world have their birthdays ruined by family drama but this is different because it is playing out in the media and completely ruined Kate’s birthday coverage. I also supported Meghan and Harry but I am disappointed that they did this without consulting the Queen and disregarded the future queens birthday.

      Delete
    3. @10:03 I truly feel sorry for anyone marrying into the royal family. The whole structure of it seems dysfunctional, at least to this outsider. From what I've read, Meghan has been treated horribly by the press and it's unclear what support, if any, she's received from her in-laws. I guess I don't blame the Sussexes for wanting to distance themselves and build their own lives. No family is immune from contention. The royals are at a disadvantage in that it's all so public.

      Delete
    4. Fuzzyferet, that was shocking news to an American. I can only imagine what it must be like for you and your countrymen.

      Delete
    5. Fuzzyferet, maybe the news was about to be released to the press so they had to release it then. Also, Kate is an adult and I’m sure they had already heard the news, so it’s not as though she received a shock on her birthday, and it’s not like the country was celebrating her birthday anyways.

      Delete
    6. Fuzzy: Although the Sussex announcement is troubling, I think the Queen will handle things with the same tact and skill she's shown throughout all the scandals that have rocked the royal family over the years.

      Delete
    7. Or one more day for then would share same birthday with the King of Rock n' Roll Elvis Presley, if Elvis was alive he would have been 85, on Jan. 8

      Delete
    8. 8:49, what media coverage for her birthday? She’s an adult not a child, it’s not like she was having some big birthday bash.

      Delete
    9. Fuzzy...perhaps they wanted to make sure no one talked them out of what they want. I'm sure in the next few weeks we will know more about what drive this decision. I whole heartedly believe that Harry loves his Grandmother....we all know how his mother was treated and he loves his wife and son as well. Sometimes you just can't be on both sides.

      Delete
    10. Anon 2:00, actually it has been reported that none of the senior royals new they would be releasing the news until minutes before the announcement so it probably was a shock to Kate. Your right the country was not celebrating her birthday but they will be once she becomes Queen.

      Delete
    11. So Prince Harry and Megan will give up on a small part of their income, no bid deal. Harry won't be a King anyway, first it's Charles, then William, then 3 of William's kids.

      Delete
    12. The Duchess of Sussex was treated no worse than how the Duchess of York was treated back in the day. I do not have sympathy for the Sussex couple. Sorry, many people have it much harder than they do and do not have the privileges and perks.

The Queen is 93; she should be slowing down. Charles is in his 70s. He should also be slowing down. So, who is going to take up the duties Harry and Meagan are walking away from? They talk about family. Do they expect the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to shoulder their load as well?

Last article I read stated that the Government of Canada is involved. Sorry, as a Canadian, I do not want my tax money going to provide security for those two. They will both have to apply for visas required for over 6 months stay in the country and if you are working, even for Brits and Americans. There should be no special treatment. If they want financial independence, that means NO public money and no money from the Duchy of Cornwall.

@9:22. The whole structure is NOT dysfunctional. It has worked very well.

      Delete
    13. This isn't a scandal....it's two adults, who got married and had a baby making a choice for their own lives. Yes, they could have coordinated the announcement with the family, the Queen and her staff....but we don't know why they didn't. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt that they know what's right for their family.

      Delete
    14. Anon 7:12 am. What do you think will happen if the Canadian taxpayers do end up paying for their security. Are they well liked in Canada or do you think there will their be mass protests?

      Delete
    15. Anon 3.37. I don’t know how they are thought of in Canada but talk in the UK atm is that we will still pay the millions of pounds a year their security costs, if the Queen gives into that the British people will be infuriated, I can tell you that. Yes as a nation we weren’t celebrating Kate’s birthday, however the Sussex’s announcement totally detracted from the day in general. There was a big family party which obviously didn’t focus on the happy birthday event, but the stress our 93 year old Queen is under. 75% of people in our country think they should go but without their titles or any financial support. There was millions spent on their wedding & I’m not including the cost of the security in that. They have also spent 3.5 million on personal fixtures & fittings for Frogmore cottage, the home the Queen gave them as they didn’t want to live in Kensington palace. Now they don’t even want to live there. As a UK taxpayer with a good well paid job it angers me that I pay 40% of my earnings in tax & I don’t want to pay anything toward a couple that don’t even live in my country.

      Delete
    16. @3:37 The government will not agree to it. We pay for security only when the Royals are here on official duties. Other than those times and except for the Queen (she is considered a citizen of Canada), they are private citizens from Britain and, in the case of Megan, the US.

The Queen is admired; she is after the Queen of Canada, separate from her role as Queen of Great Britain. William and Kate are liked because of how they have conducted their lives. Charles is barely tolerated; Camilla is disliked. Harry and Megan are so low down in the pecking order, no one cares about them. Security will have to be on them as private citizens.

There are immigration and tax implications. In what country do they pay income tax? I doubt there will be protests. CDNs have more serious issues to protest about. The Queen is sensitive to how her subjects in Canada feel about the monarchy. Push us and we will get rid of it. And people will not be happy if the Sussexes are here, for a good part of the year, and do not pay taxes.

Another issue, Megan's application to take out British citizenship is mute. You have to be living in Britain for a certain amount of years.

      Delete
    17. Both Megan and Harry are multi-millionaires, they don't need a small pay that makes them tied to all British royal activities. Megan probably just wants to be a rich housewife, without all these obligations.

      Delete
    18. 7:12- With power and money comes dysfuntion. Also, when a person's
life and political responsibilities are defined at birth, IMO that's also dysfunction.

      Delete
    19. Quite frankly, I think this whole thing about the royals is absurd. Harry and Meghan are adults, not children, and we're not living in the Dark Ages. They should make their own decisions and not be dictated by antiquated rules of a monarchy that is purely symbolic. I guess I applaud them if they want to be financially independent. I also have a hunch that their announcement did not come as the big surprise to the Queen as the press was making it out to be. She's a smart lady and I don't think much gets by her. I thought her announcement today was most gracious.

      Delete
    20. Jesus ‘ life and political responsibilities were defined at birth.

    1. Me too! I thought the same thing. Glad they gave her a normal name.

    2. I agree. It's nice combination of names.

    3. Would have been nice if she had honored her own Mother with her first daughter. I would be hurt if my daughters chose their MIL’s name over mine with the first granddaughter.

      Delete
    4. 11:15, then you would be being dramatic. What if John and Abbie aren’t a fan of her mom’s middle name?

      Delete
    5. My daughter-in-law used my name and not her mother's name. Her mother was fine with it.

      Delete
    6. Anon Jan 10, 11:15. If you are feel that entitled and are that much of a controlling drama queen, that you would choose to play the 'you have hurt me' game if your daughters don't make naming their child all-about-you (when none of it is about you!), I feel very sorry for your daughters.

      Delete
    7. I find it a bit annoying that some folks feel John and Abbie are obsessed with flying and would even want to carry that theme to the name of their child. Yes, John is a pilot. Yes, he enjoys that activity and skill. Not just anyone can be a pilot. It is fun and special. Abbie, I am sure, appreciates and shares in that. In my opinion, John and Abbie have never gone "overboard" with their love of flying , and I never thought for a second that the name of their baby would need to be associated with flying.

      Delete
    8. With proposal, wedding, and gender-reveal all plane-themed, it's natural to think the baby name would carry that theme too.

      Delete
    9. I don't think it's natural to assume that. An event is different from a lifelong name.

      Delete
    10. 9:49. I’m not controlling or a drama queen as you harshly assumed. My daughters and everyone who knows me would attest to that. I have prayed my daughters would have very loving relationships with their MIL’s and think MIL’s can be great gifts. Im also very supportive of my SIL’s.I don’t give advice unless asked and respect they have become their own families. I do, however, have the right to my own feelings as does everyone on here.

      Delete
    11. Anon 11.15 I thought the same too. If my daughter named her daughter after her MIL & not me I would be very hurt. Why is always about Michelle & Jim Bob ? All these babies have another set of grandparents. I feel for Abby’s mum I really do. Grace though is a beautiful name so I’m very happy with that.

      Delete
    12. 10:10 - in my opinion, John and Abbie went overboard on the flying theme. So glad it didn’t extend to a flying related baby name. You could name a pet Cessna, but not a baby :-) Although Piper might be cute.

      Delete
    13. Fuzzy, Abbie’s mom already has ten grandkids, one of them is probably named after her. And once again, why would you want to make your daughter feel bad about what she chose to name her baby?

    15. 11:15 -- You shouldn't be so sensitive. Maybe your name isn't what they want. Doesn't every parent have the right to name his/her own child?

      Delete
    16. @11:15 Are you a Christian? Do you really think that all of that will matter 100 years from now?. Be grateful that the child would have come out strong and healthy instead of throwing tantrums over such a simple matter.

Or else you might end up with a Meghan style exit on your hands as I wouldn't want a mother in law who throws a wrobbly because we didn't name our child over her.

    3. I think Jed or Jer might have a courtship and then get married later this year. I also think that Joy-Anna for sure will be pregnant and have a baby in 2020. Jinger probably should have another baby soon, just to give Felicity a close in age sibling. There is always a chance Jessa, Kendra, Lauren or even Abbie might have babies in a year. I'm not mentioning Anna because she has 6 kids and they all are 2 years apart except for the first two, seems like she is spacing them out like this on purpose. And Jill don't seem to be wanting more.

    4. I’m not quite sure of this odd obsession people have with wanting to see the Duggar’s go to college, leave all of their morals behind and become people that they aren’t. I wonder how the rest of us would feel if someone nit-picked our lives and assumed they know what is best for us then turned around and told us we need to be exactly the total opposite of who we really are? The kids have taken college level courses contrary to many critics understanding. Good for them(the Duggar’s) that they don’t waste their lives away spending thousands of dollars and wasting a ton of time earning degrees they will never use like much of the world today. If you have honestly watched the show for years, they’ve already *exhaustively* explained all of this and it gets old seeing people who haven’t taken the time to really get to know the family or even care about them assuming they know what is best and blasting it out all over the internet. Speak life and encouragement and leave the negativity at your own home behind your own devices, please. There is enough of it going on around the world.

    7. I think Duggars like space out their announcements to give a weight to each of them. Now when Gracie is born, they will wait a week and will announce someone's courtship or pregnancy. As John-David said, it becomes a weekend tradition :).

      Delete
    8. anon@10:49- You seem to have an obsession with the false idea that anyone who goes to college is doomed to be morally and financially bankrupt. Nothing could be further from the truth. I come from a family where higher education was valued, not disparaged. I've done the same with my own kids. Somehow we've all managed to have solid careers and live decent lives, despite your bleak outlook.

    2. Maybe a future baby? Seriously, can you imagine having to include every single name from your family or parents in all of your children’s names? John & Abbie picked what they wanted and I think it’s best to just respect their position as parents to name their child whatever they choose. After all, they are the ones raising the child.

    3. It may not have sounded as good with the first name Grace...

    5. lol. if they did Abbie's mom's name, someone would say, Why didn't they use a name from John't side.

      Delete
    6. Because she's their daughter and it's their decision. Why not just be happy for them instead of questioning their choice? Also I don't know what Abbie's mom's middle name is, but perhaps Anette sounded better with the name Grace.

      Delete
    7. Maybe they liked the name Annette better with the name Grace, and maybe they’re planning on using her mother’s middle name if she has another daughter.

      Delete
    8. Naming children after family members is quite common.

      Delete
    9. I looked up online, and Abbie's mom's name is Cheryl Denise. I think Grace Annette sounds better than Grace Denise. Just saying. They might incorporate Abbie's mom's name later. In addition, Michelle's middle name Annette might be related to her grandmother's name Anne (her sister Kathie had Ann as middle name as well, both are variations of Anne). With all that, the baby has last name Duggar, so it would be very logical to reflect the Duggar line first.

      Delete
    10. Abbie has ten nieces and nephews, perhaps the family names have already been used. If they really liked Grace the middled name needed to pair well....they named her what they chose after all they are her parents.

      Delete
    11. This is Michelle's 17th grandchild and she is only now having one named after her. Why begrudge her that?

      Delete
    12. 11:01 AM: being precise, John and Anna dedicated letter "M" to start names of their kids to honor Michelle, as her name also starts with "M", they talked about it a long time ago. So it's not the first time Michelle was honored.

      Delete
    13. 5:53, please notice I said "named after." Having the same first initial is not the same thing as using her name.

  32. Little Gracie has 16 cousins on a Duggar side! Cousins Addison and Bella are just 2 months older, cousin Maryella is 1.5 months older, cousin Ivy is 7 months older. Those are cousins with whom Gracie will be most probably playing the most. Cousin Felicity who is 1.5 years older lives in LA. There is a chance that cousin Garrett will be joining his sister Addison for playdates with Gracie too, but he is a 1.5 years older than Addison. Cousin Gideon is a big boy and almost 2 years older, he probably will play with cousin Mason who is half a year older than Gideon and cousin Henry (Ivy's brother) who is soon turning 3.

    2. 1:17, even if you aren’t doing anything to prevent pregnancy you might not get pregnant for quite awhile. Look at Josh and Anna, they don’t do anything to prevent and their kids are all two years apart.

    3. Or not. She probably wants to give her body lots of time to recuperate.

    4. Would it be so horrible if she decides that one is enough?

    5. @4:00; Abbie was saying that she practically gave up on getting married as she thought it was too late for her. She met and married John-David when she was 26. The same way she probably did not think she will have kids, and then she got pregnant, and now a mom at 27. I'm sure that if she is able to, she will have more children.

    6. I think the Duggar couples (Josh and Anna, especially) might be using "natural family planning" methods in order to space the birth of their children. These methods are highly effective when used regularly. My husband and I used "natural family planning methods" for almost 2 years, until we felt ready to be parents.

    7. 10:25, Anna said that they haven’t needed to use any form of birth control since nursing does work for her.

    2. I don't like the name Ivy. Jordyn was telling a good joke about poison ivy when she talked about Jessa's baby Ivy.

    3. 1:31, Ivy is a beautiful name, and poison ivy is only one type

    4. Out of all Duggar grandkids names I like the best Mackynzie, Grace and Henry. I also like Addison. Gideon is an interesting name too. but I don't see who they would call him for short, Giddy?

    5. Grace, Ivy, Felicity, Bella and MaryElla are my favorites. All so very feminine.

  41. While I have enjoyed these first pictures of baby Grace Annette, I sure would like to see a photo or 2 of Abbie's parents with their new granddaughter. Maybe a photo of the baby and all her grandparents. Please.

  42. Please lets quit trying to figure out who will be pregnant next or dating in the family, as someone said in the above comments move out go to college be a adult and have fun with your FRIENDS! Never here them mention any. Curious now Ledabeth

    1. Yes, they do mention friends. Their parties always include friends, for instance.

    2. You don't hear them mention or show friends? Even though the show isn't about the friends they definitely mention reference them. Plus, know one has several hundred to a thousand wedding guests if they don't have friends. They seem like they are very social and some of the family friends end up marriages.

    3. Their idea of having fun is to get married and have babies.

    4. I'm sure the Duggars' know that if these friends are mentioned or on the show too much, they will need to pay them as the friends become part of the cast. Jim Bob makes astute business decisions.

  48. I like how Gracie came not on John's birthday, but 5 days in advance. This way she is a still an early birthday present, but they still will be able to celebrate birthdays separately!

    1. 8:39, I’m genuinely curious as to why Grace being born on the 7th is such a coincidence. Maybe I’m missing something from your comment. Where does the coincidence fit in?

    2. 9:28 AM - the baby was born on Christmas, while it was not due until the 14th. That is the coincidence.

  50. It's interesting that both twins, John and Jana, even though they are the second oldest, they are a doing it all a little later than other Duggar kids. John married only in 2018, when he had 7 of his siblings married and he already had 12 nieces and nephews. Jana is still not married. Though John looks now very happy, it means his wait paid off completely. When I look at Ben Seewald, he is not glowing with happiness. Hope Jana will find her happiness.

    1. Everyone shows their happiness differently. From what I see on TV, Ben is so thoughtful and caring of Jessa and his children. It's obvious to me....again, from what I see, he loves his family.
