Duggar Valentine's Celebrations

With Valentine's Day just two weeks away, we thought it would be appropriate to share snapshots from past Duggar Valentine's celebrations.

In 2013, Joy-Anna Duggar and Duggar family friend Sierra made chocolate covered strawberries for a banquet for single women. Sierra now has seven children, but at that time, she had just delivered her third.

In 2015, Jim Bob and Michelle went on a double date with newlyweds Jessa and Ben Seewald. No surprise that they ate at Marketplace Grill.

In 2017, the Duggars threw a family party to celebrate God's love and their love for each other.

In 2018, the Duggar brothers showered older sister Jana with love by presenting her with a massive bouquet of roses.

  2. I'm not judging but just curious. Why do the Duggars celebrate Valentines day? Since it's basically the names day of a roman catholic saint. I always thought that the Duggars are conservative protestants. Again, just wondering.

    1. Most people celebrate it.... no matter what their religious beliefs are. Why not celebrate love?

      Delete
    2. Many people who are not religious celebrate Christmas. I think these people do it because They enjoy it. Maybe the Duggars feel the same way about Valentines Day. Who really cares why someone celebrates something. It's their business not ours. Why don't You ask them?

    3. 8:02- Well, the origins of Christmas are pagan and no one knows for sure when Christ was born. It is certainly not commanded in the Bible that it be celebrated.

    4. @7:51 without "knowing" your religion I "know" by your description of the holiday Christians celebrate. Have to wonder why you comment knowing the likelihood for negative comments? This is a place where we try to kind and considerate of other people and their beliefs and opinions.

    5. anon@1:08- I am the OP@7:51. You're making a huge assumption that you "know" my religion, as well as the intent of my comment. I was merely drawing a comparison to the celebration of Valentine's Day with Christmas. Even though both have pagan origins going back to the Romans, they evolved over the years to conform to cultural and religious ideals. I have no malice towards people of other faiths or opinions and certainly have no problem with Christmas celebrations. I hate to disappoint you, but it happens to be my favorite holiday! BTW, there was nothing in my origninal comment that was untrue.

  3. I always thought it was especially sweet that Jana received all those roses from her brothers. I love how the Duggars do holidays.

  4. I've always thought Valentine's Day was a couple thing. However, if you're going to have a banquet for "single women" you should have one for single men too.

    1. Why does everything have to be identical? Maybe the guys would rather not go to a single guys' banquet.

    2. What?!? She had a single women’s day because she was a single women. Tell some single men to have single men’s day, and then get over it.

    3. There is no "should" here. They are doing what they want to do. You are really trying hard to find something to critique here. Unnecessary!!

  6. I remember the beautiful roses the boys got Jana for valentines a couple of years ago. What a lovely thought for the boys to have done that for Jana, & no one can say she didn’t deserve them. Jana brought up most of those boys just as much as Michelle & it’s clear to see the boys adore her. Beautiful roses for a woman who is beautiful both inside & out. 💐

    1. That's a huge assumption. Yes Michelle had lots of help but it's not fair to word it like that without knowing them.

    2. Ten years ago when Josie was born the boys were young and their mom was away for an extended period of time. The older daughters had a lot of responsibility for the younger kids... Some of whom were still at home and not in Little Rock. I think it's fair to say across their lives Jana was the constant care provider for the youngest Duggars except Josie's first year. How many remember the show where Jana knew what to do when Josie had a seizure....her parents were not at home.

    3. Anon 4.17. The very fact some of the younger children gravitated to Jana When hurt or sick tells me how much time they spent with her. I remember an episode at an airport where one of the little boys got lost, it was jana he ran to when he found the group, not his mother. I don’t mean if in a nasty way saying Michelle was a bad mother, my point was stating how close & loving Jana was & still is to all her younger siblings.

  7. Thank you for these past moments in time of pure love 💞 What a sweet reminder to love one another unconditionally!

  8. That girl with the pink skirt has filthy feet. Tells a lot about the state of this household.

    1. Maybe she just came in from outside barefoot, but still, she'd be transferring that dirt to the floor too. When they first built the house, the kids would run an industrial floor cleaner over the tile from time to time. We haven't seen signs of that for awhile, and these are not the first dirty feet or socks shown. The tile grout has changed to dark, too.

Keeping a house nice and clean and tidy for just a few people could be a full-time job for me, but it's something that must be done for health and maintenance of the home. I can't imagine keeping something that size, with that much traffic, clean. Everyone HAS to pitch in, but everyone seems busy and preoccupied in that house...or married and gone.

Funny that I took a break from cleaning and vacuuming to sit down for a second, and I found this! Back to work. I don't want anyone to have dirty feet in my house!

    2. Maybe she walked around outside or in a shed, garden, garage without shoes. :)

      Delete
    3. Or just says that she was jumping outside on the trampoline. That’s more so what it looks like. Honestly how does it affect you? She’ll bathe at the end of the day and it really don’t matter.

    4. The Duggars do go barefoot quite often, it seems. Outside and inside, children and adults alike, and to them it is normal. Not the first time we've seen their dirty feet!

      Delete
    5. Oh my, seriously...

It looks like my feet exactly after I take flip flops off!!!

      Delete
    6. They all do. Especially when you see kids without socks and with dirty feet.

      Delete
    7. Maybe her feet are clean. It could be a shadow caused by some light source unknown to us. It's a photo, Who really cares anyway if she has dirty feet. She's not your kid !!

      Delete
    8. Ugh. With that many people in and out you would have to give someone the job of following everyone around with a broom and mop to keep all the floors clean. Or have a really big shoe mat at the door.

      Delete
    9. 2:01 PM -- I wonder how they handled 15 kids in a 3-bedroom house with 1 bathroom and if all kids walked barefeet or were able to wash their feet before going to sleep. Even now, when girls and boys have own bathrooms, I wonder how do they organize it. Like, there are 4 girls (and Jana?) in the girls room, but when the older girls still lived in the house, all of them, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joy... - how did they handle bathrooms? bath/shower time? Nice that they are separate from the boys, but at some point there were like 9 girls in one room.

    10. Lame. So dirty feet automatically means the house is a mess, the kids are a mess, and Mitchell is a horrible housewife. So let’s keep everyone inside and not let them be kids getting to run around outside and enjoy Gods earth, because the floor will be dirty for a day or week ( or whenever their mop day is)! Goodness sake...calm down people! Stop analyzing every picture for something negative to judge them on.

    11. The house is too big. The parents should be cleaning it not the “kids”.

      Delete
    12. Why shouldn't everyone who lives there pitch in to help, 12:16? Especially if the house is too big, as you say, why should only two people be cleaning it?

      Delete
    13. "Jurisdictions" around that house seem to have disappeared.

      Delete
    14. They've "disappeared" because the show isn't about the main family anymore. You think they just stopped house cleaning?

      Delete
    15. @5:21 Doesn't sound like you get news of this family anywhere but on the show, and maybe here. They share much more of their lives between seasons. It's pretty obvious that the old systems of running the house have changed now that a lot of the kids are gone.

      Delete
    16. 11:52, so where do you get news of their housecleaning, then?

  9. It’s weird that they don’t just admit they copied the Bateses’ Valentine’s Day tradition. There’s nothing wrong with taking ideas from others. Why must they act like nobody noticed?

    1. Except they’ve always done that? If they just started calling it “I love you day” then I could get what you mean, but many families celebrate Valentine’s Day together.

      Delete
    2. They haven’t always done it.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, the "I Love You Day" title is the only part that is unique to the Bates, and the Duggars don't call it that.

      Delete
    4. What tradition are you talking about? One family is not allowed to have a Valentine's family party because they know another family who does it?

      Delete
    5. They don't do Valentine's day anything like the Bates family. They make it as big as Christmas which is strange to me. Each to their own.

    1. Sierra had her 3rd child in January 2013. Since that picture, she had 4 more kids.

    2. It's even harder to believe that Sierra has 7 kids already and she's only 30! I'm almost the same age and I do not have nor want any children. I'm focusing on my career and social life!

      Delete
    3. @8:52 did you know they call pregnant women over 35 geriatric mother's. Shocked me! Women in their 40's are having babies every day these days. There is a higher risk for some birth defects, but only a few defects like Down's Syndrome. (Before anyone says anything, people with Down's are loving and wonderful, some have serious health problems that any parent would want to prevent if possible) Sarcasm rules this comment.

      Delete
    4. 8:52- If you're happy, that's what matters. The same can be said for someone with 7 children by the age of 30- if they're happy, as well as the kids, that's what counts- not the numbers. I went to college, established a career, and didn't get married until my 30's. We had just two kids and it worked for us! There's no set prescription for happiness, it depends on the person.

      Delete
    5. Wow. At the rate Sierra is going she'll have another 7 by the time she's 40. These mega families seem to all be friends with each other.

      Delete
    6. And Joy will be turning 23 this year herself.
It's actually not unusual to have 4 kids in 7 years (like Sierra did from 2013 to 2020). After Josh was born in 1988, by 1995 Michelle had 7 children (Joseph was born in January 1995, so Josh was not even 7 at that time).

      Delete
    7. I find it amazing that Sierra has 7 kids. Like, Michelle started having kids like 30 years ago, but nowadays it becomes rare that someone has so many children. I wonder if any of Duggar daughters will follow in Michelle's steps. Jessa has 3 now and she is 27. I doubt she will have 16 more.

    2. Um, speculating on a fairly common occurrence is not planning someone else's family. Would you say that guessing someone might start courting this year is the same as arranging a marriage?

      Delete
  13. Joy in the picture with Joseph was going to get engaged in a couple of weeks after. Joseph will start courtship in a couple of weeks as well. Now, 3 years later, both are married, Joy's son is almost 2, and Joe has 2 kids.

  14. The Duggars can always find a reason to have a party. I'm thinking there will be a pregnancy announcement soon AND another party.
