"I just hope she's as pretty as her mommy. I know she will be."
-John-David Duggar
Earlier today, we shared a photo from John and Abbie Duggar's gender reveal party. Now we ae hopping back on here to pass on the exciting news: It's a girl! That's right, another Duggar granddaughter!

To continue the theme that was sort of established at the start of their relationship, their reveal was flight-themed, according to TLC. Visit the TLC website to watch the couple's announcement video. Abbie says that her first trimester was difficult but that she is feeling better now that she is in the second trimester. John and Abbie have not made their due date public, but we will let you know when and if they do.

    14. Maybe they will do a theme like boys' names start with the first letter of their father's name, and all girls' names - first letter of mother's name. Like in Lauren's family: all boys start with D and all girls start with L.

      Delete
    15. So far it was only John and Anna.
Jessa and Ben had the religious theme for Spurgeon and Henry.
Jill has biblical names, also they both end with "el".

    16. Maybe they could go with D names- like Daphne, Dudley, or Dexter Duggar. It would be so precious!

  2. How sweet. The baby girl stream continues. The Duggars had a stream of boy banies and now its a stream of girls. Life can sometimes be funny and full of coincidences. Both the Duggars and Bates are having all girls with in their 2019 pregnancies.

    3. Sounds a good name for then to use!

      Delete
    4. I don't think the Duggars would approve of Amelia Earhart, considering she did not follow their religious doctrine regarding gender roles. In fact, Earhart was pretty much way ahead of her time regarding bucking the traditional path for females.

      Delete
    5. I don't think it's a good idea to call your kids the name of somebody who died young.

      Delete
    6. That would be cute! I love the name Amelia! But I would be hesitant to name my kid after someone who died tragically, just so the baby doesn’t end up with the same fate. Ex: the Bates originally named Michael “Michal”, which is a biblical name. They changed it once they realized it was a story about a woman who was punished by god for criticizing her husband and her punishment was they she would never have children. It can’t be easy for them now that Michael is struggling with infertility, knowing that she was named after a biblical figure who was punished with... infertility.

      Delete
    7. They could just use Amelia!

      Delete
    8. Anon 11:03 - I think the op’s statement was cute. I also think it was pretty much “tongue-in- cheek,” because everything significant Abbie and John David do is tied into aviation. There’s no need for you or other posters to be so analytical about why or why not they should or should not choose Amelia Earhart because of religion or tragedy. Most names, unless you make a name, up could probably be leaked back to something that someone would find objectionable. I think when you give a name to a child, be it Amelia, Spurgeon, Mary, or any name, that name takes on the personality of that particular person.

      Delete
    9. 7:43- Surely they, or you, don’t believe the name somehow was jinxed. That’s just plain ridiculous to hold with such superstitions!

      Delete
    10. Avoiding certain names because of that sounds like plain old superstition to me.

      Delete

So, grandbaby #17 will be a girl! Now they have 6 granddaughters in a row (starting with Felicity in 2018 and then Ivy Jane in May 2019). 9 grandsons and 8 granddaughters!

  9. So now the married Duggar children have equal numbers of each gender as their first born,Josh,Jinger,Josiah and John David have first born being girls and Jill,Jessa,Joseph and Joy have first born children being boys, just like Jim Bob and Michelle had equal numbers of each gender if you include Jubilee,we don't know Caleb's gender therefore can't be included just as we can't mention Josiah and Laurens miscarried baby as we don't know the gender of that baby.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why would they name the miscarried baby "Caleb" if they didn't know he was a boy?

      Delete
    2. Isn't Caleb always a boy's name ? And Asa a girl's name ? Just curious.

      Delete
    3. Asa is a gender neutral name. Caleb is a boy's name. Michelle and Jim Bob lost their second baby very early in the pregnancy. Michelle was on birth control and miscarried early in her pregnancy. This eventually led to Michelle and Jim Bob's decision to leave it up to God to decide the size of their family. She didn't know for sure if it was a boy or girl. They just chose to name them Caleb. Maybe she felt in her heart it was a boy? I'm not sure. It's not uncommon for parents to name an angel baby according to what sex they feel in their heart the baby was.

      Delete
    4. 9:54, Asa is a boys name not a girls name. Also they were not far enough along with either baby to know it’s gender, Michelle and Jim Bob just thought the baby was a boy so they named it Caleb, and Lauren and Josiah think their baby was also a boy so they named it Asa.

      Delete
    5. We gave a girl name to our miscarried baby, because in our hearts we thought of the baby as a girl. Obviously there's no scientific basis for naming a miscarried child. It's just something some of us do as part of the grieving process.

      Delete
    6. Sometimes people find it helpful to name a miscarried baby as part of the grieving and moving forward process. A woman will use her intuition in naming the baby. For example, I named my most recent miscarried baby Willa, because I felt she was a girl. I have no way of knowing, this side of Heaven, what the baby really is, but I am fine just going on intuition for now.

And also, Asa is a boy’s name.

      Delete
    7. Asa is a boys name here in the UK

  15. Now Duggars are catching up with Bateses - the Bates family has only 3 grandsons and all the rest are girls, 7 of them (Zach has 1, Erin 2, Alyssa 3, Josie 1) and now Erin and Whitney both are having girls soon. Duggars now have only 4 born granddaughters, and 4 on the way.

  16. I wonder if any of them will ever has twins. Michelle had 2 sets of twins, so it should carry genetically.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The twins might skip a generation. Thats the way it runs in my family.

      Delete
    2. It can only pass on to females since they are the ones who determine/create twins. It is not yet understood if for say John could pass on that trait to his daughter.

      Delete
    3. Not always @6:57. You're talking hyperovulation, creating fraternal twins. It's not fully understood what genes may be involved when one egg splits into two (identical twins), and there are cases of two different sperm fertilizing one egg, causing yet another kind of twins.

      Delete
    4. I believe I read that females of fraternal twins have the higher chance. My spouse has two sets in his 5 siblings. 1 f/f and the other is m/f. His maternal aunts are identical and no other known sets of either type in their documented history since 1780-ish on that side.

Fun to speculate and dream regardless of stats!

      Delete
    5. 9:56 I was only referring to fraternal twins since is has been confirmed that they have a genetic link. Identical twins are much more rare and currently there is no evidence of a genetic link. However ivf creates more identical twins likely due to the egg/embryo shell being manipulated.

    1. I thought Anna has pretty much honored Michelle with every little M grand-duggar. They seem very close and wasn't Anna and Michelle once pregnant at the same time? It may not be the exact same name, but still a very sweet reference to her mother in law.

      Delete
    2. Why would they name a granddaughter Michelle when they already have a Michelle

      Delete
    3. Michelle is a name that seems stuck in a certain era, and seems unlikely to be revived.

      Delete
    4. Maybe a middle name. Though they did name Michael after Anna's dad. So easily can name a baby girl after Michelle Duggar.

    5. There should not be any kind of pressure from anyone to name a child after any individual... Ever.

    6. Isn’t Michelle the feminine form of Michael, believe. Isn’t the oldest grandson, Michael James? Horning both of his folks. Who knows where they got it, just my thoughts.

    7. Thank you 8:58 cause I feel the same way. there was no way I would name my child after my mother-in-law. I just didn't like her name. Nothing personal against her cause we did get along.

    8. Ever? You realize that this family will literally probably have another 100 grandkids, maybe 200. Who knows what can happen in the next 30 years

      Delete
    9. I'd like to see one of the expected baby girls named after Grandma Duggar Mary, at least a middle name

      Delete
  18. Yes, I agree about twins. I am anxiously waiting for a Duggar to have twins. John David is a twin (Michelle had 2 sets of twins, as mentioned above) and Abbie has twin sisters!! I don't know the exact odds but seems like that would be fun. I think they would know by now if it was twins, though, right? So glad Abbie is feeling better.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why would you be anxiously waiting for anyone to have twins? Having them isn't exactly without added risk for both the babies and the mother. There's a greater chance for miscarriage, low birth weight, premature birth, not to mention a greater risk for hypertension, gestational diabetes and preeclampsia with the mother. It may sound fun for you as a fan, but think about the impact on those directly involved before you wish something like a multiple birth for someone else.

      Delete
    2. To AnonymousAugust 21, 2019 at 5:42 PM:

It's not as though wishing twins upon someone will actually cause it to happen you know...how many of us have wished a birthday wish that didn't come true? It's just an expression. It's ok.

      Delete
    3. 9:57- Of course wishing for twins won’t make it happen, but why wish it in the first place for someone else? The OP said they were anxiously waiting for a Duggar to have twins!

      Delete
    4. 8:14, Because it doesn't hurt anyone to wish it. I am guessing she doesn't know them personally, so it's not as if anyone will ever find out she wished it for them.

  20. John-David's comment is so sexist! It's hard to believe that someone as young as him would have such outdated views in this day and age. I am a woman and there are so many different things I'd rather be called than pretty. I'd much rather be called smart, assertive, and strong. If I ever have a daughter, the first thing I will teach her is that there is so much more to being female than being pretty and meek and that she has a duty to her gender to show the world that women are equal to men in every way. My daughter will be strong and assertive and will stand up for herself and everyone around her, just like BOTH of my parents taught me to do. Yes, it is entirely possible for men to be feminists as well.

    1. Wow sounds like you “wear the pants” “rule the roost” etc. Even tho you’re for equality, there’s a spirit coming from your words that “it’s my way or the highway”. I wonder how the men in your life feel and act in reality of your words.

      Delete
    2. He finds his wife attractive and hopes his little girl looks like her mommy. Yes, he could have said smart and pretty like her mommy....I’m not going to hold it against him because I don’t think he meant it in a sexist way. I’ve found in life it’s better to give the benefit of the doubt and then gently remind them to honor the intellectual traits too.

      Delete
    3. 🙄 If we sat John David down and asked him to list all the things he'd like his daughter to be, I am sure he'd come up with a number of things that are unrelated to physical appearance.

      Delete
    4. It was probably meant as a compliment to Abbie, but JD's statement sure was strange. What if the baby looks like him, or has a birthmark, or in some way isn't "as pretty as her mommy"? Will his hopes be dashed? Will he be disappointed?

Parents shouldn't have any physical expectations about a yet unborn child. It's a parent's responsibility to deal with whatever health (or beauty) problems that might come. They can't make it sound like a disappointment when things aren't like they "knew" they would be. I think JD is tongue-tied with the newness of this situation and isn't thinking straight while talking to magazines or TV producers.

    8. 10:55 -- Have you ever been called pretty? If not, that explains your attitude.

      Delete
    9. Anon@10:55; Your remark is so sexist; since when does "pretty"="meek"?! A woman's "duty" is not to her "gender" or to prove something to "the world"! A woman serves God, her husband & her children. Bless you. Proverbs 31 ❤

      Delete
    10. Wow!!! JD loves his wife, and thinks she's pretty that's a pretty normal thing among married couples. He wants his daughter to look like her also a common idea with parents. As a 64 year woman I was a young adult in the 70's during the fight for equal rights. Do I think men and woman are equal? Yes equal, but different. Do I believe that men are the head? No again we are equal. My husband and I made decisions together we discussed everything. There are still certain roles that men and woman have tho. There's very little time's that a person has to be assertive, that turns most people off immediately. JD knows Abby's smart she's a nurse. I bet she's compassionate also. Most woman today aren't meek. Most men want partners. My parents were partners way back in the early 1950's. You can be equal and still think that your partner is nice looking. I bet that if she was pregnant with a boy Abby would want him to look like his dad. That's how it normally is. You're making to much about a comment that is normal.

      Delete
    11. Won't hold it against anyone if they called me pretty. I don't need reassurance to know I'm smart.

  23. When John and Abbie have their baby girl, it will be 9 grandsons and 8 granddaughters. Still sad to think about baby Annabell, that had she survived, the grandchildren would have been evenly split, 9 boys, 9 girls. My heart goes out to Joy and Austin, with all these baby girls due.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Is it important that the grandchildren be evenly split between the sexes? It never occurred to me to associate the stillbirth with interfering with the boy/girl count.

    3. I realised what a coincidence this is compared to Michelle and Jim Bob's situation ,they would have had an equality of sexes also had Jubilee survived, goes to show everything is written in your destiny, when my friend had her baby she mentioned to me she does'nt know how she would cope if her baby died because we were watching news on a child having died,a year later my friend lost her baby boy from pneumonia and got to find out how tough it was,I remembered what she had said a year earlier and realised our destinies are written for us the moment we are born, almost as if she had foreseen the future by what she said but without knowing it.
