Gideon Loves Autumn

Gideon Forsyth is officially eight months old! His smiles are still contagious, he is still as cute as a button, and he still looks like a mini Austin. The latest Counting On season ended when Gideon was just a few months old, but we pasted a new photo of him below so you can see how much he has grown. TLC has not yet announced the show's return date, but we will let you know when they do.

  3. 100% Austin! Joy was just an incubator lol! I have 5 young children of my own and they all look like my husband so I know how it feels to be an incubator lol!!! No mini-me’s yet!

  7. He is such a happy baby and so adorable!

  8. Hope he always stays this happy. He may have competition in the happiness domain, with a cousin named Felicity. I do see mainly Austin, but there are glimpses of Joy as well.

    1. What? I am sure they Jim Bob and Michele would never treat their grandkids differently.

    2. 12:38, I don’t think the OP was implying at all that JB and Michelle treat the grandkids differently. I think the intent of the comment was to say that Gideon and Felicity are both very happy babies.

  9. would love to see pics of little Garrett Duggar

  10. This baby looks too short and thin and does not appear to be growing at a proper rate given his huge birth size. Are they feeding him baby food? If she's only nursing him, he's not getting enough to eat.

    1. He could have a growth hormone deficiency, Do you understand that your comment is rude, and could be very hurtful?

    2. You need to get a life. ;) it is none of your business what they do with their child.

    3. DONT! OH PLEASE. Joy has helped to raise way too many babies to be Mom shamed. Unless you know them personally, you don't know what his weight and height is. Or any problems if there are any. All babies are different. He is precious the way he is

    4. Every post has a Debbie Downer! YOU WIN! Congratulations! Don’t think you are their pediatrician! Thanks for being judgmental and RUDE! He looks perfect!

    5. If Joy had gestational diabetes it would account for his large birth size. It would be normal for him to slim down and be at the size his DNA dictates. He looks very healthy, and happy, to me.

    6. Big babies do not always mean they stay big. He looks perfectly healthy to me.

    7. Ummm, excuse me??? That is very rude!!! He doesn’t look small and unhealthy to me!! Besides if he were malnourished due to insufficient mommy’s milk they wouldn’t have a cheerful little fella like him!! I had a friend who was determined that breastfeeding was the ONLY way, and she didn’t realize that her baby’s super fussiness was because she didn’t have near enough or nutritious enough milk! Her babies were SUPER skinny. When she was finally willing to try supplementing with formula she had a much happier baby. So definitely doesn’t appear to be the case here!!!
And not just that, my mom said my brother was a short fat baby (only 19 inches and 10 lbs!) but it didn’t take long and he was long and skinny!!! To this day he’s never had any fat on him no matter how much he eats! And he loves to eat! So how big you were at birth doesn’t say anything about how you grow later!!

    8. That baby is NOT too short nor too thin! He is absolutely fine!

    9. How can you tell when he has clothes on....maybe he's mobile now and active. My kids were very plump at birth and when they became mobile they thinned out.my youngest was soley nursed till 8 months.where did you get your medical license?

    10. For real...? If there is something his parents need to do differently,I'm sure his Dr. would be the first to let them know.

    11. Big babies tend to drop their weight - AND a pediatrician may have told the parents to watch his calorie intake. "WE" do not know.
Sidenote; Michelle told us - when she had Josie - that her breast milk was "skim-like" very little fat content.

    12. I have 2 sons and when they were born they were little chunky babies. At about 5 months old my one son thinned out and when the other one was 5 months old he stayed chunky. Both were completely healthy and happy, but just different body types is all. Babies are all different.

    13. I'm sorry but I must totally disagree with you. Gideon looks totally healthy & very happy to me & I have spent over 30 years as a nurse specialising in paediatrics & a midwife for the last 20. Babies that are large at birth do not go on to always be large children, it is more worrying if they do. I myself had a large baby, my daughter was 9.5lb (no gestational diabetes). She grew to be a very petit little girl & very thin (though well fed) now as an adult of almost 21 she is lucky to push 8 stone on the scales & is quite stunning. Joy I'm sure is feeding Gideon all the food & nutrients he needs, he is probably just like my daughter was & though very large at birth is going to be a petit child. Your comment is not only hurtful but shows total ignorance about child development.

  11. Hey Lily and Ellie,

How is Garrett doing? We haven't seen any pictures of him in awhile. I would love to see how big Garrett is getting and who he resembles.

    1. Hi Samantha,

Joe and Kendra choose to be more private with their photos of Garrett. They don't share as many as the other couples do. :)

    2. Hey Lily and Ellie,

I miss seeing Garrett. However I understand it is ultimately Joe and Kendra's decision. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

    3. After reading some of the comments about sweet little Gideon I can understand why Joe and Kendra are making this choice.

  13. Cute. He’s so tiny.

    1. Right. He only looks a few pounds heavier than when he was born!

      Delete
    2. Tiny? How can you tell from a photo? There's nothing in it that gives much indication of his size.

      Delete
    3. You can see when a baby is chunky, and this baby is not. He does look like a cute little peanut (and I'm using that as a term of endearment, as a fellow mom of a smaller baby). It's possible that he isn't nursing well, but we don't know any details. So let's just enjoy the cute picture and let his parents parent him.

    1. He definitely is, people or I should say trolls are saying he is tiny and unhealthy. They have no clue what they are talking about.

      Delete
    2. While he does look perfectly healthy, you can’t deny that he’s small for his age. Being small doesn’t necessarily mean unhealthy or improperly cared for. All my babies were small but rarely got sick. Please don’t be so quick to go on the the offensive over innocent remarks.

  15. He has the biggest smile in every picture. He is such a happy baby boy. He looks more like Austin but I can see Joy in him. He is small considering how much he weighed at birth. Guess that just proves birth weight has nothing to do with how big they will be. He is a cutie.

    1. Usually the biggest babies turn out the smallest and the smallest babies are the ones that get bigger.

      Delete
    2. 12:42, I disagree with that, however I do think birth weight has nothing to do with your older weight, so you could turn out either way

  18. He is adorable & very like Austin. I don't see much of joy in him but on the Duggar side he looks like a very young Josiah, just my opinion, but he has Josiah's mouth & smile, so there is definately Duggar coming through to me. He just looks such a happy contented little boy, I do hope joy & Austin are making the most of this precious time while he is their only child as he will grow so quickly & other babies will come along & although as parents we love each child the same, there is always something very special about your first experience of parenthood, & muddling through those days when everything was new.

    1. No, it doesn't look strange.

    2. No, it's just the way he's curling his fingers. :)

      Delete
    3. 3:53 pm: you think so? I was just purely curious, because he does seem to curl it in a strabge way. ;) probably when he'll grow up it'll take a more definite shape. Sometimes babies are just squishy (in a cute way).

    4. Why do some people claim there's something "wrong" or "strange" about the Grandduggar kids based on photos? I've never seen a photo of any of them that would suggest they have some sort of health issue.

      Delete
    5. There is nothing wrong, you are probably the same person who said he looks to tiny and unhealthy. Do you have anything else better to do? If you want to work professionally with children you should go study.
