Joy's 1st Mother's Day

Hope you all had a very happy Mother's Day. How did you celebrate?

This year, three additional Duggar ladies were honored on Mother's Day--mothers-to-be Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo and Kendra (Caldwell) Duggar, as well as new mom Joy-Anna (Duggar) Forsyth. Little Gideon is 11 weeks old, while Jinger and Kendra are due in July and June.

  3. Joy and Austin certainly look like they are exactly where they want to be in life! Enjoying young parenthood. Beautiful picture. Makes you happy for them.

  4. Lovely photo. Joy's dress looks so pretty on her! I like how the married ones get new clothes and don't appear to be shopping at thrift stores anymore. Maybe that will change as their families grow, but it's nice to see them looking fashionable and not having to share clothes with their siblings any longer.

    2. You’d be surprised what kinds of nice things you can find at thrift stores!

    3. No idea why you think the dress is not from a thrift store or that thrift store shopping is so horrible. I have lots of very nice stylish clothes from resale shops and love the hunt.

      Delete
    4. Hahaha I have never seen anything at thrift shops on style that's why they are there. They are no.longer in style

      Delete
    5. I think what they meant is the dress and shoes are a massive departure from what most of the girls, and Joy in particular, typically wear. So I understand the conclusion that perhaps her shopping resources have changed.

      Delete
    6. The thrift stores I've seen are one step away from the dumpster. Everything gets sorted in the back and the good stuff gets sold online.

      Delete
    7. There are many different types of "thrift shops" and they vary widely in the quality of what they offer. More upscale thrift shops are known as "consignment stores". I also wouldn't be surprised if the Duggars buy online from websites that deal with "gently used" clothing (but obviously showing them doing that wouldn't make for good TV, so we wouldn't see it).

That being said it's very possible Joy's dress didn't come from a thrift shop. But obviously BOTH Forsythes got dressed up for the occasion. I haven't seen Austin in a suit and tie since his wedding. So I wouldn't take this photo as evidence all their clothing styles have changed. Just because a family has more money and can now splurge for special occasions, doesn't mean their whole lifestyle changes overnight.

    5. Jana likes gardening and also home decorating.

    6. Jana likes to garden, sew and do home decor but I think it’s a fair question; do any of the other Duggar ladies have any hobbies? One comment suggested watching the show but I do watch the show and have yet to see any hobbies. It would be an interesting segment to see the ladies doing something for themselves like sewing, doing pottery or ceramics, sketching. I know that being a married mom ( I have 3 children) is time consuming but it’s mentally healthy to make time for yourself and tap into your inner creativity

    7. I think many of them play instruments.

    8. 11:56, well we know Jinger likes photography, so maybe after she has her baby she’ll start being a baby/engagement/family
photographer. One of my friends did this after having her baby because so many of her friends and family started asking her to do their newborn pics. She’s been very successful on her area.

      Delete
    9. They can all play the piano and violin. They like to decorate (and re-decorate). No doubt they have other hobbies that they keep out of the public eye as well.

      Delete
    10. After all these years on camera, I think it is a good question. I think Jinger likes to experiment with cooking and of course now reading and photography. Everyone knows Jana's interests, but the other girls just appear to be concerned with hair, clothes and babies. It would be interesting to see actual hobbies being carried out.

      Delete
    11. Joy has always been quite an active person and I think she and Austin like doing outdoorsy things like horseriding and hiking.

      Delete
    12. I don't think it's a rude question at all. It's an honest question.

      Delete
    13. The question wasn't rude at all. The Duggars' shows have covered all aspects of their lives. I don't see how asking about what they like to do shows jealousy.
I think that Counting On featuring their interests would show the Duggar women are well-rounded. A lot of what we know about the Duggars' hobbies, minus Jana, are from years ago. It would be nice to see if their interests have evolved.

  16. I remember Joy plainly saying that she does NOT like to wear dresses. She prefers pants. I see Austin is requiring her to wear a dress. I'm sorry for her.

    1. Actually, she's said that she prefers skirts, not pants.

      Delete
    2. Actually Joy said she prefers skirts, but Austin prefers dresses, so she wears them for him. He doesn't require it. Why read something into the situation that's not there? He seems like a wonderful young man!

      Delete
    3. That's a pretty extreme conclusion to draw based on one picture. Maybe Joy CHOSE to wear a dress for Mother's Day because she knows Austin likes to see her in dresses, as she did when they were courting.

It's possible that Joy is doing things to please Austin out of her own free will because she actually, you know, loves her husband. Not because he is ordering her around like a servant who has to obey whether she wants to or not.

I'd assume Austin also does things for Joy to please her.

    4. I’ve never heard her say she prefers pants, but that she doesn’t like dresses, she’d rather wear a skirt.

  19. Joy is a beautiful girl, but she needs a good condition and trim of her hair. It’s beautiful but it looks dry, brittle, and unhealthy.
I still can’t believe that she’s married and a Mom. Seems like just the other day she was a little tomboy on 19KAC!

    1. Yeah, these girls don’t really take care of their hair properly. Jinger’s also looks unkept + damaged from straightening her hair. I want one of them to get a shoulder length look, I think it’ll look super cute and help them with those split ends.

      Delete
    2. I agree about her hair. A good trim is needed. Like her dress though.

      Delete
    3. Do you walk up to people on the street or friends/family and give them a hair critique, too?

      Delete
    4. I don’t think she needs to change her hair at all. She looks beautiful!

      Delete
    5. Hair care often goes out the window when you have a baby demanding your time and attention.

      Delete
    6. 7:35, the hair care wasn’t there before she was even married, so that excuse doesn’t work here. I don’t agree with people saying they need to get a shoulder length hair cut, but if they want to keep their hair as long as they do, they need to get it trimmed every few months so it stays healthy.

      Delete
    7. I didn’t say she needs a dramatic change people, chill🙄
I just said she needs a trim like maybe an inch or 2 and a good condition

    8. Anon at 5:02. Your comment is like comparing apples and oranges. People walking down the street don’t appear on tv; they aren’t in People Magazine; they don’t write books. The Duggar girls do these things. Hair has been very important to them, and they exhibit it publically. Therefore, we, as loyal viewers, are able to comment on it. It doesn’t mean we don’t like the Dugger girls - we just have constructive criticism.

      Delete
    9. 8:17- Constructive criticism? You must think very highly of yourself. BTW, most of the current women's hairstyles I see look as though the the hair was cut with a pruning shears, after having been subjected to a hot ride on the back of a Harley at 100mph. It's hard to tell who has healthy hair and who doesn't.

      Delete
    10. Constructive criticism is something you tell to someone you're trying to help, not something you put on a public forum for everyone to see.

      Delete
    11. Anon 3:22 - I was not the one who did the criticizing. I was merely saying that bloggers have a right to give constructive criticisms since the Duggars are public figures. I’m afraid your assessment of me is off the mark. I don’t think highly of myself in the least. My hair is a fright. I would give anything to have any one of the Duggar girls’ gorgeous, thick, well-styled hair. From: Barbara who is Anon 8:17

    4. It’s actually important to not get sloppy for yourself first and foremost!

      Delete
    5. Hmm, so if a wife doesn't look her best it's okay for a husband to look elsewhere? What if the husband lets himself go, I can think of horror stories of men refusing to bathe for days or wearing really scraggly beards and such.

I really find it puts Christians in a bad light to always focus on what a woman is doing to keep her husband happy. Adds to the stereotype that Christians think women are inferior to men and are just designed by God to help men, instead of being equal in terms of God given dignity. (I am NOT denying actual differences between men and women though.)

      Delete
    3. SOME Duggar fans do. Please don't lump everyone together. I for one do not subscribe to the beliefs, especially the ones that insinuate a wife who didn't look good for her husband would be to blame if he strays.

I also don't subscribe to the "they put themselves on TV for the money, so that means they put themselves out there to be judged for every clothing / parenting / home renovation / etc choice they make, because what Jesus said about not judging doesn't apply to rich celebrities" belief either.

    2. Little babies with shoes look ridiculous in my opinion. They shouldn’t start wearing them until they start walking

  36. They both look like happy and mature young parents! I love that Austin is independent and stable, works for his family camp. Like, Ben seems to be a nice person, but he is helping JimBob with some manual labor work. Derick decided to be a missionary, and it is nice, but I'm not sure what kind of profession it is and how financially he can support his family.

    ReplyDelete

    1. How is Austin working for his dad's business different than Ben working for JB's? Though I tend to agree - young men desiring to support a family (on their own, nonetheless) ought to have proper employment.

      Delete
    2. Is Ben still doing property maintenance or has he taken a larger role in the business? He is also taking online classes and will make a career change soon.

Austin seems more invested in the family camp and its day to day functions. I'm guessing that Austin will eventually take over running the camp from his father. I doubt Ben will have that same opportunity with 10 Duggar sons. The adult Duggar sons all seem to be working for Jim Bob in some fashion.
Austin also has his side house flipping business.

      Delete
    3. We actually don't know what exactly Ben is doing. At the beginning he was helping with some work here and there. We also don't know exactly what JimBob is doing business wise. Used car lots? Real estate? Towing business? Austin's family has this established family camp, and its his dad and him (and maybe his sister too) who are main staff.

      Delete
    4. The Duggars could end a lot of speculation if they were up front with exactly what the boys are doing. As with many other aspects of their lives, we're supposed to watch the show and not question the parts that were intentionally left out or not talked about. Look at the facade, and don't ask questions. Well that's not the way most people think. We want to understand the whole picture, and we'd like the information to come straight from the source, who could put an end to rumors if they spoke up.

    5. 10:14- Well, I'd say you deserve today's Gold Star Award! BTW, who gets to decide what "best" is? Is it a contest?

    2. I'm sorry his bare feet bother you so much. I think perhaps he was barefoot because it was pretty hot (in the 80s) the day that the picture is taken, and you don't want a small baby to get overheated.

  40. Joy is wearing an attractive dress. Who cares where she bought it? I'm in poor health and shopping exhausts me quickly so I don't go to thrift stores on the off chance I might find something nice that fits me. Others with more energy can do that.

    1. I think the person asking where she purchased the dress was admiring it and wanted to buy one for herself. It wasn't malicious question.
Joy can shop wherever she wants. It doesn't matter if she purchased it from a thrift store or new. She looked lovely.

    2. The people who care are likely the ones who have already judged the Duggars as "selling out" or "becoming too worldly", and are just trying to gather more proof of that.

I feel bad for the one Anon who got piled on with negativity for actually asking an innocent, sincere question about where Joy got the dress. However I'm not surprised this has happened. This blog is sadly being affected as is the rest of society, by the trend to become very polarized, jump to conclusions, and assume anyone who doesn't agree 100% with you, must be making comments in bad faith.
