Duggars at a Marathon

Four days ago, Derick Dillard completed the Hogeye Marathon in Northwest Arkansas. While living in Nepal, he ran both a full and a half marathon, but this was his first race in the United States. His time was 4:16:17. Do you enjoy running?

  1. It was nice to see the younger children, esp. Johanna, my favorite along with Jackson. Tyler and Jackson remind me of the boys at school who like to dress up on occasion for no particular reason. Has Michelle had some kind of work done? She keeps looking younger and younger! She really looks refreshed!

    1. Looks like she is using make-up like her older girls use which is very beneficial to looking good. She'd look even better if she dressed in more fashionable clothes.

  2. Poor Jennifer, not quite in the grouping.

    1. Jennifer reminds me how Jinger was and still is, her own person, and that can be a good thing...Jane

  3. Completing a marathon is a great accomplishment. It takes a lot od dedicated training, Derick must be really busy with work, school and training for a long distance race, he must never be home!

    1. Derick isn’t in work and school. His “work” is his ministry “school” through the church, and he pays tuition rather than gets paid. It also does not seem to be a full-time gig.

  4. Well .....it looks like Derrick got over the running, gagging problem.
    Good for him....❣

    1. Yes. Interesting how it coincides with NOT being on the show anymore.

    2. He said he still has it.

  5. I love this post. It shows someone in the family doing something different

    1. Anon @ 7:53 If it had been an actual Duggar running I would agree with you, but Derick married into the family and was not raised in the same way, so he really isn't doing something that unusual, many people run marathons.

    2. The poor girls could never run in a marathon at least not in a dress

  6. This makes me think about the time Jimbob and some of the Duggar boys ran a race in their jeans. I wonder if any of the Duggars male or female would consider training for and running a marathon or half marathon?

  7. I used to run a mile 5 days a week until my knee gave out. Now I just walk for exercise. I never thought much about it, just found running very relaxing.

  8. Wow! A full and a half marathon in Nepal is pretty impressive! Kathmandu, where Jill and Jim Bob visited Derrick is 4593 feet above sea level. I live at about 387 feet above sea level, and do cardio three times a week. Recently we were in Nepal, at about 4400 feet above sea level, and I could hardly do 33 push-ups! Go Derrick!

    1. Actually once you acclimate to the altitude it's not that big a deal. I live a 6,000 feet and run regularly. Your problem was your body hadn't adjusted.

  10. Good thing that he does sports. The Duggars never play sports and do not seem active. It is so healthy.

    1. Michelle and Jill walked on a treadmill a few times. And Jessa took that photo op holding a barbell in a skirt and flats. Never say never!

    2. The kids have always been very active all over the property. Just because it's not a formal sport doesn't mean they're not keeping active and fit. Considering very limited electronics outside of school work, they need to do something with their time!

    3. They don't play any sports. A walk on a tredmill (in the past) is not the same.

    4. 4:32 pm: They don't play organized sports but they do play broomball and four square (think those are the names)

    1. No they aren’t, they’re casual running shorts

    2. Too short for what?

    3. Haha, if they were much longer they wouldn't be shorts.

    5. Are you being sarcastic?

    6. The duggars wear long shorts or jeans. This is not modest.

    7. Those are long shorts. Extremely long for a marathon runner. Besides, I don’t think his knees are going to defraud anyone.

  12. Running is excellent excersize. However, I don't really enjoy it. I walk:) Good going ,Derrick!

    1. Ellie and Lily -- The comments are getting to the point where I come here for the comic relief. Thanks for the laughs. I mean that sincerely.

    2. Interesting how you take this opportunity to make a jab at him.

    3. I think it would be better if he does as God has directed him, which in this case is to further his studies in the ministry. How he does that is his business, not ours to opine about.

    4. It would be nice if Derrick got credit for giving up a career that would have paid more to minister and tell people about Jesus. It's an unselfish calling to help people and share about Jesus. I pray that you will understand that someday.

  14. I thought he gagged when he ran.

  15. Well done Derrick and a very respectable time too.

  16. So I assume and glad his medical issue got fixed when he was running

    1. It would be hard to run a marathon in a skirt I would think

    2. Jill wears pants now. And has a nose ring. I have high hopes she would run a marathon with Derick in appropriate running clothes.

      Delete
    3. Is the nose ring for real? I heard mix stories about that. It seems like Jill and Jinger are finding themselves and that is a good thing! maybe Jill will run with Derick next time.

  18. So the “gaggy thing” when Derick runs? Just a fabricated storyline??

    ReplyDelete

    1. That stuff he upchucked wasn't fabricated. Thanks, TLC, for sharing those images so generously!

      Delete
    2. So you think he purposefully made himself retch for the camera? I doubt that.

      Delete
    3. Or maybe his gagging problem is resolved?

    4. this is an example of a hateful comment. this shouldn't be allowed on this blog. It's a baseless accusation. How about congratulating him on overcoming that obstacle. No, that would be to nice.

      Delete
    5. Derick and Jill ask for suggestions about the gagging on their own blog. So it's fair to talk about it.

  19. Several male Duggars should join Derick on his runs.

    1. Why not the females? Girls can be runners too!!

    2. Recent pictures of Josh show that he has gained quite a bit of weight. Ben trains regularly, and Derick runs they could team up to help him get fit and loose some of the weight and get healthy again.

  20. Nice to be kept up to date on Jill &Derick & family - also good to see Grandma Cathy with the little ones.
Good for Derick's taking part in the race and for his boys to watch.

    I really miss watching them.

  23. I don't like running. Looks like a large group was there to cheer him on. Congratulations Derick for running your first marathon in the U.S...Jane
