Duggar #19 Turns 8

Has it really been eight years since Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed their 19th child into the world? It feels like just yesterday we were posting updates on her progress, as she spent months in the NICU following her premature birth. Some of the updates were celebratory, while others were calls for prayer. Now, eight years later, Josie is happy and healthy.

Happy birthday, Josie Brooklyn!

This is our favorite photo of Josie. It was taken in June 2012 and was sent to us by Jill, who had looked up a Duggar recipe on our blog because she hadn't been able to locate the family's copy.

    1. Didn't you see it "healthy and happy".

    2. That doesn't explain what eventually happened with her seizure disorder that was shown on the show.

    3. 8:08 what's to explain? She is healthy and happy. Nothing else needs to be said.

    4. Fever can cause seizures...bright lights can cause
seizures....things happen,, and you don't have epilepsy,
      if you have a siezure.......

    2. I don't think Neddy meant Josie would start dating at 12 or 13, Anon 2:06. To say Josie will be courting in a few years is a manner of speaking, not an exact science. Ease up.

    3. Wow, people are so quick to pick pick pick. I think we all know what Neddy meant.

    1. Josie......I am a twin that weighed 3.11oz and my twin 3.12 oz seventy eight years ago when there were no NICU's. God was good to us and continues to be good to us. We had a full, healthy life and continue to thrive as 78 year olds. No real health problems and hoping that you will be like us. I know that you had tons of prayers when you were born and your parents kept a vigil for you for months. Happy 6th birthday and many, many, many years to come.

    2. My dad who is now 73 years old was born 3 months premature and was only 1lb and some ounces. He was a twin and his twin did not survive... no nicus for him! He is thriving now! Apparently as a baby he couldn't keep down milk so they put burnt toast with the milk so that he could hold it down!!! My how times have changed! Regardless he survived and is thriving!

  16. I have to be honest here, I don't like referring to these children (adult or not) as "numbers". They have names and ARE individuals. Please consider referring to them by name.

    1. I've complained about that, too, but you see how far it got.

    2. I enjoy seeing which number they are in the family line up. Ellie and Lily always give the name in the blog post to go along with the number in the line up. I have also heard people refer to themselves saying, "I was the 5th out of 8 kids," for example. Just my opinion on the flip-side. :)

    3. I appreciate knowing where each child is in the birth order. Maybe if Ellie just worded it a bit differently it would solve the problem. For example, "Josie, the 19th child of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, turns 8!" Or "Josie, the 19th Duggar child, turns 8." Use the name and still give the birth order, without saying,"#19 turns 8," would be more respectful to the person." When I see, "Duggar #19," I think of how we ear-tagged our cattle and then referred to them by number. Just a thought. But the important thing is Josie turns 8, and no matter how it is said, it is cause for celebration!!!! Yay, Josie!!!!! Love your spunk!

    4. I read the news, and it's so negative. I come here to to this blog to get some lighthearted entertainment about a sweet family. But it never fails --- someone is complaining about something minor -- using numbers, using last names, the header needs to be updated, someone used the wrong word, Jill got her nose pierced (not prohibited for Christians) ... WOW! Your lives must be really peachy if this is what you have to complain about.

  22. Praise God for sweet Josie - the way Jim Bob and Michelle walked through the difficult time with Josie's birth was such a witness to me. I too can't believe it has been 8 yrs! I say it almost every comment but this story would be great for an episode of the Duggar family story on tv. They are so missed! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET JOSIE AND MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU!
