Recap: "A Reveal to Remember"

Tonight on TLC...

19 Kids and Counting "A Reveal to Remember"
  • The DC Duggars finally make it to Chicago after an 800-mile RV trip. They arrive at the home of David and Priscilla Waller, Anna's brother-in-law and sister, and are greeted by a "Welcome to Chicago" sign hanging on the front door.
  • Priscilla is pregnant with her second child and is getting ready to announce the baby's gender, so the Duggars and Wallers head over to a neighbor's house for a gender reveal party. Guests share whether they think the baby is a boy or a girl by wearing either blue or pink.
  • Priscilla says she would have been happy making the announcement to family and friends in a more conventional way but that her husband was set on having a gender reveal party.
  • During the party, everyone gathers around to watch David and Priscilla's son, Paul, rip the tape off a cardboard box. Pink balloons are released into the air. It's a girl!
  • "I am so excited about having a girl," says Priscilla.
  • "I am especially happy because David wore a pink shirt, and it really would have been an embarrassment to him if he wasn't right," jokes Josh.
  • The next day, the two families pile into the Duggars' RV and drive into downtown Chicago.
  • "This is Chicago for crying out loud. This is a piece of cake," says Josh, who has driven an even larger vehicle through the streets of Manhattan.
  • They are able to find parking directly in front of the entrance to the Willis Tower Skydeck. They take the elevator up to the Skydeck, where they walk out on a glass ledge 1,353 feet above street level. For lunch, the Duggars and Wallers visit a kitchen where they make their own deep dish pizza.
  • On day three, Anna and Priscilla leave the kids with the dads and head to a consignment shop to pick out clothes for Priscilla's baby girl. "It was neat just telling her how fun it will be for Paul to have a little sister," shares Anna. "It does get easier in some ways because your children can entertain each other instead of Mommy and Daddy being all of the entertainment."
  • Meanwhile, Josh and David haul all four kids to a hardware store to buy supplies for their upcoming camping trip. "It was not easy to shop with four kids," admits Josh.
  • On day four, the Duggars and Wallers load into the RV and depart for Indiana Dunes State Park.
  • "I tented one time as a kid in my backyard, and it was a horrifying experience," reveals Anna. "We had a raccoon digging at the end of the tent where my feet were, and it horrified me." David and Priscilla are veteran campers.
  • After setting everything up at the campground, Josh and David hop on a chartered boat to catch fish for dinner. But don't worry; Anna and Priscilla have packed extra food as a backup plan.
  • Josh and David hold a contest to determine who the best fisherman is. David catches a fish that weighs 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and Josh reels in a much smaller fish, which, according to Indiana state law, is too small to keep.
  • "It doesn't really matter who caught the biggest fish," says Josh. "It just matters if we had a good time." The men take the fish back to their wives and cook it over an open fire.
  • As the episode comes to a close, Anna takes a pregnancy test. "My heart is definitely to leave the size of our family in God's hands, but I'm the fifth born, so that's at least a good start," says Anna. "That's a pretty small family," responds Josh.
  • The pregnancy test comes back negative. Anna is not expecting.
Update: David and Priscilla welcomed their baby girl, Davia Lynn Waller, on November 12th.

  1. Lovely episode. Happy for Priscilla and Paul. One question- why do Anna and Priscilla talk to their husbands in the voices they use for their children?

    1. This comment made me laugh out loud, not in a mean way. They do talk in a very artificial, strained way to their husbands. And I do find it silly and odd. But honestly, they are young wives with a great desire to respect and honor their husbands, and maybe they feel that talking that way helps their men to feel, respected? I could never talk like that to a grown man I was in love with, and I've never known a man who seemed like he'd like that...but to each his own, maybe Josh and David like it.

    2. They were brought up to speak softly. The only drawback about that is it makes the kids have speech problems for a short while at first. The kids will eventually be able to speak clearly when they get older.

  2. Of course Anna wasn't expecting - she looked great in Jessa's wedding pics. Poor Anna everyone always saying she looks pregnant.

    1. I wish everyone would stop with the pooch talk about Anna. She will always have a little pooch between pregnancies because he body never has the chance to fully recover before she gets pregnant again. Also, her an Josh are not that big into exercising, so just accept her body for what it is, she looks great no matter.

  3. I think Anna's negative pregnancy test shows that she will be no where near as fertile as Mrs. Duggar. Josh seems to put pressure on her saying 5 kids is a small family. What if they don't have anymore children? Will that be enough for Josh?

  4. I don't mean this to sound rude or insulting --- I am truly curious about why this entire family is so consumed with taking pregnancy tests all the time. Jill said she took several that were negative over consecutive days and then raided Michelle's stash to do another. And now Anna seems to have the same addiction. Who keeps multiple pregnancy test kits at home? I know they like to buy in bulk to save money, but really?

    1. I always have tons of tests on hand. 88 cent tests from walmart are my favorite. I suffer from infertility and I'm currently in treatment and always taking tests each month hoping for a positive! It can become a bit consuming when you want something so bad.

  5. She will spend her entire life repeating and spelling her name for people.

I hope anna doesn't feel she needs to get to a certain number. I hope they have more, since they want more.

  8. I am in love with these families! Have as many children as God allows, He's in charge of your fertility, not the rest of the world. I love that they embrace their femininity, their faith, and their values of family. They obviously love the Lord and eachother very much. The fruit that they bear is good. I will keep these precious souls in my prayers. God bless you Duggar family! :)

  9. Baby Davia is a beautiful baby but it is a real shame that none of us knew Priscilla was having a baby girl until after she was born - my guess is that they were tied into some kind of deal with TLC so couldn't even share the news on their own blog.

  10. If it is really about God deciding Josh and Anna should be happy with three. I don't understand. One minute it's about going without contraception so God can decide the timing and number of live births, then it's people asking them how many they want. And then they do me up with saying they want more, 20 will be good and that they are trying, how big is big. I think they should stop answering and just say we will see.

  11. I think it would be ok for the women to wear jeans while camping!

  12. There are many whose lives revolve around the question "Am I pregnant?" I am among these women. I do not have a large family, but live in a community in which a larger family is more common, and seen as a blessing. In addition to that, I have health issues, which means that conceiving a child is very difficult for me so it is good to confirm my status as I make health decisions. Yes, I do keep two or three cheaper tests available for use when needed.

I don't presume to know that the members of the Duggar family or any other family is pressuring each other for more children. We don't really know that. We do know that this is a family who welcomes new children, knowing that each is a blessing, so it is understandable that this may be foremost on the minds of the young married couples, (especially for newlyweds in particular). Actually, it's very common for newlywed ladies to be preoccupied with this question.

  13. Is the duggar show really canceled? Since Michelle actually has 20 kids?

  15. Good question about the pregnancy tests. Who keeps a stash in their house? Can't you tell when you are pregnant? Dont you wait for other tell-tale signs? Why do you need to know so urgently? It seems rather odd to me.

  16. Josh and Anna have a beautiful family and they're great parents. If they have more children than I'm happy for them. If they don't - I'm still happy for them.

  17. Lily and Ellie, I have come across several pictures and even video evidence that Jana was in fact with josh and anna during this trip. If this is true, why did josh and anna lie about having no family help at all??????????????????
Are you able to clear any of this up?
I love the Duggars and while I don't agree with all of their beliefs, I do feel they are a loving family with strong Christian values. however lying or omitting the truth isn't the best way to give that appearance.

  18. Anonymous 1-- great question, I've often wondered that too!

  19. There's lots of woman (married and unmarried), who take pregnancy test every month just to sure or to stay on the safe side.

  20. Why does the show only feature the Keller's who have similar lifestyles to Anna and Josh? Why no mention of Susanna Keller who had a baby out of wedlock or Anna's brother Daniel and his wife who adopted? Or her sister Rebekah and her family who are not conservative in their lifestyles?

  21. For all those saying Jana wasn't on this trip here she is! Can't dispute it's not her…

  22. I had multiple pregnancy tests at home when I was trying for my children (I now have 5). They are very inexpensive, especially dollar store ones. Since pregnancy is a possibility most months for the married Duggar women, this doesn't seem unusual to me at all.

  23. Jill took several over several days before taking one at her moms. She was married an entire month. It would have been her first cycle. She is taking them too early. It's not that she took one every month. And then every few days until got her cycle. She took several the first cycle she could get pregnant.

  24. David announced the news of Davia's arrival on the day she was born along with plenty of pictures. So it wasn't a surprise to me at all when they announced the gender on last night's episode. Also, lots of sites on Facebook said it was a girl already as Priscilla accidentally slipped it in an interview she did.

  25. The news about baby Davia was out there...i remember hearing it awhile ago and they did post pictures and videos on their blog. I remember thinking it was weird on the duggar show to talk about 'the reveal' when a lot of people knew and had already seen that little baby girl!

  26. If they are expecting a pregnancy they would be always on prenatal vitamins. It's not necessary to take several each month.

  27. Good comment on all the pregnancy tests. They really are the ones in control of how many they have. Yes, they say it's all up to God but they are so anxious for another pregnancy which indicates it's their desire for more. Please don't spiritualize it when you are the ones who basically make that choice.

  28. No one in their right mind drives an RV into Chicago and expects to find street parking. The only way they would have been able to park a large vehicle in front of the Willis tower was if the spot was reserved for them. Clearly the Willis Tower and the SkyDeck have a product placement agreement with TLC and the Duggars. This show is becoming one non-stop commercial!

  29. sorry, this is the only place that would take anything from me. I just want to ask regarding what appears to be a bowl with manual mechanism for mixing like cakes, etc. Have seen on the show a couple times but it was not highlighted when I saw it. Wondering about how much it costs and where it can be purchased. Thanks every so much!!!
