Michelle Duggar Miscarries 20th Child

Jim Bob and Michelle were looking forward to finding out the gender of their 20th child today. When they arrived at their appointment, the doctor was unable to find a heartbeat and informed the expectant parents that they had miscarried.

"I feel like my heart broke telling my children," Michelle told People. "They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult. The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him."

When they find out the gender, the family will choose a name and then conduct a funeral service. The last time Michelle miscarried was after the arrival of Josh and before twins Jana and John-David were born.

Michelle was in her second trimester and looking forward to the arrival of Duggar baby #20 in April. If you have ever lost a child, you understand the sorrow that the family is feeling. Please keep them in your prayers.

  3. SO sad........Yes, I am praying for this family. A song came to mind when I read Michelle's words "God gives life and takes it away". Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman. I chose that song for my husband's funeral. May He be their comfort.

  8. this is such sad news and my prayers are with the family! We may not understand why this had to happen or why people can be so cruel and mean to a person when something bad happens to them but I do believe God has a purpose for all life! I believe God has a special place for all the unborn babies in Heaven! Michelle and Jim Bob now have two babies in Heaven waiting for them with Jesus! God never closes a door without opening a new one! Lets keep The Duggars in our prayers!

  11. I am so saddened by your news today. My husband and I lost our first baby just 3 short months ago, he was a stillborn, and I lost a sister 16 years ago. I wanted to recommend a wonderful book written with beautiful christian values as you walk through these days. It is called "I Will Carry You" It is by Angie Smith, her husband is a singer for the Christian group Selah. This book did my heart wonders as I am walking through grief of the most difficult time any parent can bear. You and your family are in my prayers as you walk through this very difficult time.

  12. I am so very sorry for your loss. I wanted to just offer a book I wrote as a resource...I'd be happy to send you a copy if it would be helpful. Christianity Today magazine named it one of the best books of 2011, and based on emails and letters I've received from other Christian women, it's been helpful during their own grief journeys. The book is called "What Was Lost: A Christian Journey Through Miscarriage." If you'd like me to send you a copy, please do let me know. In either case, please know that my husband and I will be praying for you. Blessings, Elise Erikson Barrett

  14. I am sitting here listening to David Phelps singing "O Holy Night" as I read this blog. My heart goes out to the Duggars as I know they are heartbroken with this sad news. But, I know the love they have for Jesus and knowing that Jesus loves them will comfort them in the days to come. We are praying for you Duggars.

  15. I heard about Mrs. Duggar having a miscarriage, my mom told me just a few minutes ago. It was a devastating thing to hear. We immediately said a prayer for them, but what I thought was really nice a loving of them was that they said they are going to still name the baby and have a funeral. But we all know that what ever the gender was of the baby he/she is now with G-d.

  16. I am truly sorry and saddened to hear the news. I lost a child back in 2007 and was later diagnosed with infertility. I really enjoy your show and appreciate how the LORD is using it for a ministry. You and Jim Bob are truly great people and remember as devastating as losing a child is the LORD can bring you comfort through anything. With love and prayers

This verse has my lifeline : When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 21. Sorry to hear this news today but God does have a plan for this little one and He will keep you all in His arms and surround you with His love. My husband and I lost a little one and we felt the lost then and it is still with us today. But I know that one day I will meet out little one and for now I know their work was done and my little one is with Our Creator.

May God Bless you today and always

  22. My heart aches for Jim Bob and Michelle, and I am just so sorry for this time of sadness. Yes, my husband and I know the terrible pain from a child dying. Our seven year old son passed away in a tragic accident a year and a half ago. Though we are still sad everyday, we know we will see him again. We know Jesus holds our precious son, and he holds the Duggar's precious baby. My prayers are with the Duggars during this very, very sad time. God bless you all! P.S.: I did see a comment above about I Will Carry You...I highly recommend that book. I wish I could get them a copy, it's so beautifully written. Angie Smith did a fantastic job!

I wish your family the best, and you will see your child again! When the times get tough, just think, "My baby is with Jesus. Jesus is taking care of my baby." 33. We are so sad for your loss. Even though our babies are in heaven and we can take comfort in that, it is still painful. We carve out a spot in our families for each life that we are blessed to carry for any length of time and then, that place isn't filled in the physical sense, but that baby will always be a Duggar. We always light a candle on special days to remember our son that we lost at 20 weeks. We pray for comfort in your hearts and our hearts can feel your pain as we walk this path ourselves each day.

  42. Michelle and Jim Bob I am so sorry for you loss. You have a wonderful family and I do respect your decision to leave the number of children in God's hands, but I am truly worried about you. I feel that God would never want you to be away from your other children. As a woman in her 40's I have also considered having more children but it becomes so much more risky to ourselves and the baby the older we get. You are going to have so many Grandchildren to enjoy over the coming years! Again, I do respect your decision; you have raised such wonderful children! I will be praying for you.

  59. Dear Michelle,
I am very sorry for your loss, and I know how heartbreaking this is for you and your family. My prayers are with you.
I'm glad to hear you are having a funeral service, it's a very healthy way to be able to grieve. When I had both my miscarraige and ectopic, my friends and family and prayers were essential for my emotional recovery. God has other plans for their little souls I guess, or maybe they'll come back to us one day when they're ready. I like to think that.
Remember that it's ok to be sad and when you are sad, you probably won't feel very strong but remember that you are strong and will make it through, and you are so blessed to have so many people who love and support you.
Lots of love to you and your family! God bless you!

  68. I hope you post fairly...including all points of view. You are hurting yourself, and your children with your nepotism . You can't meet the needs of all these kids, and your lying to yourself if you think you can. Not all kids have the rfesillience to overcome the dynamics of your uber large family. But this is what god wants?the exploitation that I see by you and other families for television is sickening. I wonder if you renegotiate your tv contracts after you have another child? Sadly, misscarrages will continue as you keep testing your limits as you age. I will pray for your kids though, who don't deserve to grow up in a circus.

  69. To all the Duggars, When I heard your news I was so shocked and saddened for you but especially for Michelle. It is always hard on the Mom. Like many posters here I too lost two babies thru miscarriage before and after our last child was born and it is something that always stays with you. Some healing ways to help are to buy a baby blanket and embroider the babys name in it, or plant a tree, rosebush for baby, It is just such a sad time, I was forty four, forty five same like you, with my last miscarriage and the obgyn said that I could concieve but the problem would be carrying the baby to term because the eggs are old and they dont always make it. It is so hard coming to terms with this because we also have a large family, We tried adopting for five years after that, and it never worked out, Bad agencys or we ran out of money etc, but maybe when you heal you can look into that because I dont think the money would be so much a issue for you, I am speaking of international adoption, not domestic where you have to wait and wait for a Birth Mom to pick you, You have such a love for children,I somehow dont think you are done yet, Maybe thru adoption you can continue your love for caring for children, I wish God would have let us do that but he kept closing the door. or my husband did thru God, but I still pray and have hope and I hope you can still too, I bought both your books and love them and watch your show, I especially love your beautiful modest girls that they have their own convictions, and came to them on their own, not just because Mom or Dad said so!! God BLess you. You know you lost your Baby on a Extremely important feast day in the Catholic Church, THe Immaculate Conception. It is a Holy Day of obligation for all Catholics, It is when Our Lady, was conceived in St. Annes womb to be the Mother of our BLessed Lord. and she was born without original sin to hold Gods Son, Know how special a day it is in Heaven on Dec.8th and Know that your Baby is in the arms of Blessed Mother Mary too!as well as our Lord. God never does anything without a reason or a purpose as you proved in your book going to the polling place and low and behold a picture was snapped and now the whole world gets to learn about Gods love and good family living thru the Duggars. No words can help now, It is such a cruddy feeling. I am so so sorry, but with Baby Jesus coming soon, look to him and find peace in the arms of his Mother, She knows and feels all pain and sorrow like no other Mother can, did or ever will in watching what her beloved Son went thu. Go to Mary, Peace be with you all.

  71. {{{HUGS}}} for Michelle and Jim Bob, and prayers! I've lost babies myself, once even an ectopic which ruptured, I know how much it hurts to lose a child you've been looking forward to, a whole future you've been dreaming of disappears in a flash. But the night before I even knew I would lose my baby (I didn't know it was an ectopic yet), I had a dream that I was in hospital and an Angel spoke to me, saying he had to take my baby Home. I remember waking up, and saying to my husband 'We need to go to the hospital, this is not going right'...and there they told me it was an ectopic pregnancy...But, no matter how it broke my heart, even now 3 years later I cling to that dream, and know in my heart that my baby was brought Home, to God. Michelle, take lots of rest and cry...and then look at your beautiful children and thank God! I know I do when I look at my 2 beautiful girls ! {{{HUGS}}}
