'19 Kids and Counting' Canceled

Just 30 minutes after we wrote a post encouraging readers to urge TLC not to cancel 19 Kids and Counting, the network officially canceled the show. (Talk about interesting timing.)

Before we share the details, we would like to assure you all of one thing. We have been blogging on behalf of the Duggar family for nearly six years and will continue posting as usual.

From TLC: After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting. The show will no longer appear on the air.

From the Duggars: Today, TLC announced that they will not be filming new episodes of 19 Kids and Counting.

Years ago, when we were asked to film our first one hour documentary about the logistics of raising 14 children, we felt that it was an opportunity to share with the world that children are a blessing and a gift from God.

We are so thankful for our film crew that has shown up at our house for over a decade. They have become like family to us. They have invested their time and energy into our lives and have been so loving and patient. We love and appreciate them so much!

With God’s grace and help, Josh, our daughters, and our entire family overcame a terrible situation, found healing and a way forward. We are so pleased with the wonderful adults they have all become.

It is our prayer that the painful situation our family went through many years ago can point people toward faith in God and help others who also have lived through similar dark situations to find help, hope, and healing, as well.

We appreciate the love, support, prayers, and kindness extended to us by many of you. You have deeply touched our hearts and encouraged us during this time.

God’s faithfulness and goodness to us, along with His abundant grace, have given us strength and joy even in the most difficult days. We have committed to Him that in all things—difficulties or success, good times or bad—we will purpose to bring Him honor by staying true to our faith and our family.

Later this summer, TLC will air a commercial-free, one-hour documentary on child sexual abuse. The Duggars will work closely with the network during production, and Jill and Jessa will appear on the show alongside others affected by child sexual abuse.

From TLC: TLC has been especially concerned for the victims in this situation, including the Duggar family, and it is our hope that this effort will help those in need learn where to turn for information and help.

  4. That grieves my heart. I have watched the Dugars since day one and for their show to be over truly saddens me. Being a victim myself of sexual abuse I know the pain it causes. However I've extended forgiveness and moved on. I was praying that TLC would do the same. Praying for the entire family and everyone else involved!!! Patti B.

    1. I am hoping that one day soon, TLC and the Duggars will reconsider this decision and get back on the air. This family has taught me so much about God, faith, love, hope, endurance, respect, marriage, and SAVING! My hubby and I now have a home in Arkansas and I pray we get an opportunity to meet both Michelle and Jim Bob one day.

  5. You are still an amazing family! Satan always finds a way to try to turn things very ugly, and intends to defeat other Christians. TLC will hopefully see the error they've made or God will change their hearts. Keep doing what you're doing!! God bless each of you!!

  11. Sorry to see it come to this! There were so many affected and hurt by all of this coming out.. I am still not sure how I feel about the whole thing. Sad is the only word I can come up with at this time.

  12. This is the worst day of my life! The Duggars meant so much to me, and to know I will never again be able to sit down and watch their show breaks my heart. All I ever wanted was to be able to enjoy and learn from their family. I can't stop crying, knowing my favorite show on the planet was cancelled. 😭💔

  13. 19 Kids and Counting was the main show I watched on TLC. TLC just lost a viewer. I hope to see lots of videos on this blog as well as updates on the Duggars.

  14. Could you give some updates on Josh and Anna?I know this must be extremely hard on them as well. Are they estranged from their family or disters, has Anna had her baby yet

  15. This is heartbreaking, to say the least. I love the Duggars and really hope to see them on another channel!!

  18. Seriously thinking of getting rid of TLC as there really isn't anything to watch on it now, I don't get it, cancel your show yet put one on about a trans gender kid..i miss you Duggers, God Bless You!!

  19. How wonderful that child sexual abuse gets a voice through this show. If it can happen to the Duggars, it can happen anywhere to anyone. The outreach of this show will help stop the abuse.

  21. Very Sad news to hear. I will no longer be watching TLC. The very best to the Dugger family that was persecuted by the press, but GOD will prevail in their lives. This has been some of the best programming that has been on TV. Josh made a mistake at 14 and has done what he needed and was forgiven. Sorry TLC doesn't understand it. Love to all and keep blogging!

    ReplyDelete
  22. the Dugger are so kind to each other Some groups you cannot disagree with that's why they went after Joss. The liberal press is always one-sided . Joss never should had taken that job.
even if I didn't agree the Duggers are good people I hope this will not hurt Joss entire life and his family love then all

  23. I am very disappointed in TLC. I really think this was started over a political issue. Odd how "SCANDAL" leaked at that perfect time. Prayers continue for this family. I hope that Josh and Anna are ok. Is it possible for us to still buy the complete series on DVD through here? Thanks, Lois

  24. Miss the show but -'m sure they'll be back somehow, maybe in a few years. They are great marketers for their family and I'm betting they will be back. God has a plan for them, they won't disappear and you can always find them on social media in the meantime. They love posting pictures of themselves, especially Jessa! Keep up the great work Duggars -we love you!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Very sad!!! I really enjoyed the show! I will miss the Duggar Family very much!! God bless!

  26. Goodbye TLC, I'll not watch TLC channel again unless the duggars come back...maybe the duggars will be put on another network such as the UP channel...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am not sure why this show is being cancelled. Gypsy Sisters? Shows on transgender persons? I don't get it. While i think each person is entitled to their own lives, there are just some that do not need to be on TV.. The Duggars however, DO need to be on TV. Their show is encouraging, helpful, and a great example (put the Josh situation aside, not making it right, please read the comment for the content, not focus on Josh) of how Christian familys are helping to better the world. This comment I am sure will be read wrong and will be interperted as I am defending what happened. That is NOT the case, however I think each family, whether on TV or not has their own set of problems, issues, and they are entitled as a family to deal with it as they see fit. AGAIN, it does not make his actions right, but it is unfair to critize them and how they as a family chose to deal with things. I am pretty sure that their ratings would be through the roof if the show went back on the network.. This is a HUGE mistake. God Bless you Duggar family.

  28. This is just sad! It seems if anyone is doing well, there's always someone out there who can't stand it and has to do all they can to bring them down. This is the past and the victims have forgiven and moved on and everyone including Josh received counseling so let it be. I've said it before and I'll say it again "Josh was a child himself"! The family will be missed and are still very much loved, God Bless You All and please don't give up! Josh and Anna you are still a wonderful family and you are also very much loved so please keep your head up and let God's light shine on.

  29. That is horribly sad. 19 Kids an Counting was one of the only good shows still on Television. If TLC doesn't bring it back, I will go to their production building, smash all their TVs and Computers, and yell at them and give them a nice slap in the face! They are the dirtiest TV company ever for cancelling 19 Kids. I will boycott TLC forever until it comes back!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Your show meant a lot to me as a Christian, because it is often hard to bring up God in a work setting. However, several unsaved people that I worked with watched your show and would talk about it and your faith. Even when going through difficult times, your faith in the Lord remained strong, I was able to use your show as a door into conversations and add my own two cents on how God is there to help us through life's storms. Also, that Christians aren't perfect and do sin, but God is a forgiving God that sees past our faults and loves us anyway. I will miss seeing you weekly, and will miss your encouragement to me in my walk with God.

  31. TLC has forgotten that the Duggars are human. Josh was a child experimenting as many do. Rather than use this as a learning experience and allowing the Duggar family to share how the dealt with and got through the situation they have turned their backs on the. Shame on you TLC!

  32. Since the scandal exploded regarding the Duggar family, and TLC halted 19 Kids and Counting, I have seldom watched anything on TLC. The Duggar family gave the world an insite into their large Christian family. They explained that their family was not perfect, and yes, as a young teenage boy, Josh Duggar made a mistake. He explained this to his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle and they dealt with the issue as they saw fit. Unfortunately, they "trusted" and "believed" in the privacy of the police department. Sadly, now everyone in the Duggar family is paying for the mistake of "one" of their family members. Come on people. . . Josh Duggar was a young teenage boy !!! I definitely do NOT condone what happened and he shouldn't have done what he did but it is in the past. The Duggar family did what they felt was the right thing to do at the time and now they are all being negatively affected. The media have behaved like rabid wolves while viciously attacking their prey, the Duggar family. TLC have very little left that interests me, except for "The Little Couple" and so I am saying GOODBYE to TLC. P.S. I honestly do not care about Kate + her whiny 8 children OR Gypsy Sisters OR My Strange Addiction OR Sex Sent Me To The ER OR Extreme Cheapskates OR Say Yes To The Dress OR Untold Stories of the ER OR What Not To Wear OR My BIG FAT Fabulous Life.

  33. have not watched TLC since they stopped the show, GOD BLESS your family, praying you guys have a great summer, will miss you, love and forgiveness is the answer, this family could of shown us how it is done, TLC loss

  34. I am sad to see the show cancelled. it doesn't surprise me that TLC took that approach but I really enjoyed watching the duggars

  35. It was so nice to have gotten to see what a true family is. I will miss you're show. God bless you all.

  36. Thank you, Lily and Ellie for continuing this blog, despite the big changes in your own lives recently. I am sad with this decision. I was hoping for at least a "goodbye" episode from the Duggars, like they did with Kate +8. Maybe this documentary will be something of the sort? Yes, I too hope there's the occasional YouTube videos. Videos of those talking about them, not good. Blessings on you all.

  37. josh was a child when this happened and he has grown from his mistakes so please put the show back on

  38. I think UP needs to start filming the Duggars! Forget TLC.

  40. I am very sad to see 19 Kids and Counting cancelled. I have been a fan of the show for years now, and I enjoyed seeing the family grow throughout the years. I am very disappointed with TLC for cancelling the show. I use to watch TLC a lot, but haven't watched as much since they cancelled several of my favorite shows. I wish your family was back on tv again because I would like to see more courtships, weddings and everything that goes on with your lives. I hope to continue to receive updates from your family , and maybe you guys will be on tv again hopefully in the near future. Thanks for all the wonderful memories, and I will definitely miss your family. Take care, and God Bless You. Lara H.

  41. This is so sad, we are praying for your family. Maybe there is a way that the Duggars could have someone film there family and sell DVDs and other this could be included such as Bible studies too. I know I would purchase them. Maybe with the help of Living Waters, Ray Comfort or Kirk Cameron. I will miss you all. God Bless this wonderful Christian family.

  42. I am so very sorry to hear this news. Is there any way another network would take this show? May E Channel. There are so many great companies that would benefit from this family. Your family has meant so much to me. I am glad that until another network is found that the blog will continue.

  44. I'm not trying to be mean or anything but I don't think the show will be brought back considering the fact that ratings have actually gone up since 19
Kids and counting stopped airing. Also they have "I am Jazz" coming up and that's sure to give them sure ratings and support. I also heard that there's going to be a small documentary about the Duggars. Does anyone know if it's true and when it will be aired?

  46. Such a wonderful, loving and caring family. May God continue to bless you! I will truly miss you and continue to pray for you. TLC has lost the best show ever, and will continue to lose viewers while showing sinful shows that they deem moral. Shame on TLC!

  50. TLC - you had an opportunity to do the right thing as the Duggars have always tried to do and you turned your back not only on this family, but on your loyal viewers who looked to this them as a beacon of what a good family is and should be. Everyone makes mistakes and josh dugger along with his parents did what they thought was responsible, right and good for their family. These people have carried your network for all these years and not only have you dropped them, but you have undoubtedly inflicted an enormous amount of pain to them as well. Shame on TLC. Another loyal viewer will be turning you OFF. To the Duggars - look for another network to carry your story....I, for one, would LOVE to continue following and learning from all of you!

  51. It is not up to man to judge. Only GOD can do that. Prayers that eyes will be opened to the godliness o this family. Shame on those that got the $$$ or bringing this to the forefront.

  52. My family has grown with this family, they have taught me so much about raising a family, love and kindness, sharing and giving, at the centre of everything is faith in the Lord. This was the best show on TLC and like many I have not tuned in since they took the Duggar's off air. I will continue to follow them through social media and hope and pray another network will approach them so we can continue to watch and learn from their family. Jacqueline from the UK xx

  53. We will miss the show, want to keep up with them if possible. Those who do not embraced walking with God again win seemingly. Josh youth mistakes should not affect all the family
for the rest of their lives. No one was responsible except Josh for his actions. Why should rest
    of family, friends, community suffer?

  54. very sad to see the show being taken off the air. I have been a fan of the Duggars since I started
    watching the show.

  55. I am very sad to think the Duggers have been cancelled. It was my favorite show along with The Little People. Some of the other garbage on TLC isn't worth watching. Please reconsider.

  56. After all said and done..we are not a perfect society and God has his own plan for things whether the general population believes or not. For 10 years you have entertained us knowing there is no perfect family or individual. This was entertainment with a lot of insight and personal beliefs and faith. If TLC choses not to resume do what i did when I lost a job...create my own business...in this instance create or go to a faith based network instead and keep entertaining us though a new medium. I hope to see your return.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Please reconsider about the Duggars. I have enjoyed the show for many, many years and looked forward to it every week. I do not have much of a family myself. These people are not perfect but they are loving and caring and delightfully entertaining. I will miss them and keep praying that you will again let them be part of my life.

  58. I AM VERY, VERY SAD AND UPSET ABOUT THE SHOW NOT CONTINUE TO AIR.......PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, BRING THEM BACK ON THE AIR. This family has been upfront and has tried to do the right thing and take care of all parties concerned. TLC why would you cancel this show - because you are showing a family that actually has some values. We can show other stuff that isn't worth watch - TLC do the RIGHT THING and keep the Duggars on. They can teach us all something.........

    ReplyDelete
  59. This so sad. I will miss you guys. TLC shame on you!

  60. My heart goes out to the Duggar family. There is no question that what Josh did was wrong, but you would be hard pressed to find a family in America that hasn't dealt with the same issue on some level. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." I hope that they know how many lives they have touched for good. I'm sure that they will make the decision that is best for there family concerning entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  61. So very sad the show is cancelled. I have watched on and off all the years, but had especially enjoyed the show these last two years, looking forward to each new episode. Thank you Duggars - for your unashamed Christian walk, and example, sharing your lovely family with us. So sorry for all the anger I see directed at you, do know there are a lot more people who are supportive & would have loved to see the show continue- too bad TLC doesn't get that - I hope they still do reconsider!! Thanks for the family updates online. May our Lord guide and bless each of you!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Josh was only a child himself when he made these mistakes. I'm sure he wasn't the first boy to experiment, and won't be the last. I don't understand why this all came out now. I do not want the show to be cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous 34...I totally agree with you. Why is Women in Prison being aired on TLC? Surely Josh Duggar's crime is no more serious than those women's. The only show TLC has worth watching now is The Little Couple.

    ReplyDelete
  64. So sad to hear that the show has been taken off of the air. This was a wholesome decent show. I hope another network picks the show up. I for one, along with my co-workers will not be watching TLC anymore! Reality is the good and the bad, its real life. Did TLC think that the Duggars were perfect? This is a real show with real people who make mistakes, my goodness continue to film the Duggers so the world can see the truth and not the fake like so many other TLC shows. The Duggars are wonderful parents who have raised wonderful children, yes including Josh. He made a mistake years ago and he should not have to pay for the rest of his life. Shame on you TLC, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, NONE of you or us are perfect!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't think it's fair that someone felt the need to exploit the Duggars. EVERYONE has issues within themselves and families. They all deal with those issues in different ways they feel best for their families. Just because they are on a TV program, in the public and some don't believe in their belief system - others shouldn't be mean-spirited, derogatory and report private, closed records of a minor just to make a story, to make $$$ from the tabloids. The Duggars are not trying to be perfect but just living their life how they believe - just like any other person in this world.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have always loved this show! It kills me to see it be of air! I will miss it so much! I have always looked up to jill!

  67. Haven't had a TV in years but watched 19 Kids and Counting episodes on YouTube. One of the few decent shows out there. Gave me many hours of joy. Being chronically ill and a shut-in, it was something to really look forward to. I'll miss them.

  68. I am very sad to see TLC has cancelled the show!!! It is the only program I looked forward to watching!!! The last couple of years have been so exciting watching the courtships, marriages, new babies etc. Josh was a young boy when this happened and althought it wasn't "right" I feel that the family handled this matter appropriately and took specific steps so that it wouldn't happen again. Josh's mistake should not affect his entire family and friends for the rest of their lives. TLC - PLEASE BRING BACK 19 Kids and Counting!!!

  69. I think it is a BIG HUGE SHAME to stop the shows..... I LOVED watching them!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I AM A HUGE FAN OF THE DUGGARS!!!!!!! will be praying for them.

  70. I loved watching the Duggars! It was so wonderful to see a good Christian family and feel God's love and influence each week. I am very disappointed with TLC in canceling their show. They have lost another viewer. God's grace can and does heal and help us overcome bad situations. No one or no family is perfect. We can and are forgiven for our mistakes! I will always love and support the Duggars. I'm hoping another network will pick up their show or TLC will come to their senses.

  71. I can honestly say from the bottom of my heart I believe TLC wil regret this decision. Many people I've see poker to since this news want the shoe back. I've already signed two petitions. Viewing figures were up based on their shoe. Without them I doubt many will still tune in unless they are a die hard fan of a certain show

    ReplyDelete
  72. Shall I have been watching it since 14 kids and pregnant again though the beginning and I and then watching it ever since it has helped me grow closer to God

    ReplyDelete
  73. please, please, please bring the Duggars back. I've watched them grow and still want to see the young ones grow and develop. There is a war on Christians today, just look at TV now, nearly every show has to have a gay person on the show and now transgenders, We have to see same sex kissing on the lips, and the trouble is they mix them in with what were once good shows at one time. We never see Christians shows anymore, at least give us TV that we can watch,
    it just isn't fair programming.

    ReplyDelete
  74. TLC is run by a bunch of cowards. The basis for cancelling the Duggar show was the loss of scared sponsor money. I certainly hope one of the Christian based stations pick up the show and continue it. I also hope the Duggars continue legal action against those that released "illegally" the report on the incident. The show has taught me more than I can express here. Praying for the Duggars !

    ReplyDelete
  75. Please put the Duggar family back on TV, they are a wonderful family. It is so wrong for others to judge. We should all be praying for this family.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hopefully another network will pick up this great show. I will not watch TLC again.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I will miss the Duggar family. None of us know how we would have handled this situation if it had happened in our own family. As for TLC, I am disgusted with some of the shows you are now airing.

    ReplyDelete
  78. TLC you have made a terrible mistake in canceling this wholesome show. I really miss this show. I loved it and looked forward to watching it weekly, even the reruns. Please change your mind and do the right thing when it comes to the Duggar's. They deserve better from TLC and from America <3
