Jackson Duggar is Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 15th child. His birth was featured in the family's first reality TV special, 14 Children and Pregnant Again, so he quite literally grew up on television. At 21 years old, he is now attending Bible college near the Vuolos and is only the second Duggar to leave home to go to school. He is in a one-year program but is praying about continuing his studies. He joined Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo on the latest episode of their podcast.

Who was the first Duggar to leave home to go to school?
ReplyDeleteJoseph went to crown college but did not finish
Delete10:48. I think Jill’s two oldest went off to school first. But it didn’t last long. I think they are back to home-schooling now.
DeleteNo mention here of Amy's book?
ReplyDeleteGood. I think they should just ignore Amy's activities.
Delete1:23 I agree..ignore her..from the reviews from the book people say the book is a dud and information like a gossip journal and not reliable.
Delete10:19 You can go back through old newspapers and court records to see that Amy isn't making up things about her grandfather. Sounds like you don't want to believe it.
Delete1:23. You have the best advice, just ignore Amy. Why would a cousin try to bring to surface things about a grandfather who was deeply loved by the other cousins..it easy to trample on memories about our loved ones when they are dead and unable to defend themselves.
DeleteYes it is true this bid for more attention should be ignored. However it is so creepy that she prenteded to be her Aunt Michelle on the audio and mocked her sweet voice that we all love And relate to Michelle’s love for her family. Amy is truly a troubled soul and sharing all these intimate secrets and details won’t help her.
DeleteWhat is he going to do with a one-year education at some obscure fundamentalist college? Not get a mainstream job of any kind. Don't look for him on Wall Street or at a Fortune 500 company.
ReplyDeleteWell said
DeleteDoesn't sound like he wants a Wall Street or a Fortune 500 company career. Not everyone does. Nor does it make him less of a person because he doesn't strive to have a "mainstream" ambition.
Delete2:49. The purpose of bible school is to find a spouse. Mission soon to be accomplished.
DeleteYou don't do that for a career. You do it to learn more about the Bible.
Delete@7:13 The Duggars toss around the word "college" as if it were a career builder or something to be so proud of. You can sit home or in church and "learn more about the Bible." Watch YouTube videos!
Delete@7:13 Then what do you do with that knowledge? Support your family? Seems like all that would prepare you for was to clear an entire category on Jeopardy!.
Delete2:16 - I wonder if the Duggars have run out of friends with daughters. Or ones who are willing to marry into the family.
DeleteLearning more about the Bible can benefit you in a lot more ways than a Jeopardy category. It's meant to be a guide for life and after this life. It's a gift from God. Besides studying the Bible, he is also getting the opportunities any Bible college student has, like serving opportunities and getting to know people outside his circle. I applaud him for getting away from home and expanding his horizons a bit.
Delete@9:05 If he hasn't formed his own guide for life by now, then his parents have failed him. He shouldn't have had to go away to study the Bible to form a guide at this age. I don't believe your statement about getting to know people outside his "circle" either. That is a large circle and extremely difficult for any Duggar to get outside of. The college he's attending is still well within that circle. He can serve at home, too. I'm sure there are plenty of people in Arkansas who need help, especially starting next week.
DeleteForming his own guide for life - that's what the Bible is for, at every age. I'm not aware of any connection between West Coast and ATI/Bill Gothard. He can also serve away from home. People complain that they stay too close to home. Now you're complaining that he's away from home.
Delete2:49. Not sure why you are describing The Master’s University as an obscure college..it is not a college but a University..look it up and you will see how many well balanced programs they offer and how it is well known all over the world , with many international students. With all the crazy standards in California, they had to meet much criteria to qualify as a University a few years ago.
DeleteIf I remember correctly, Joseph is the only other Duggar who went to college but he dropped out after one year.
ReplyDeleteHow can a family with so many adult children fail to produce one college graduate with a four year degree from an accredited university?
ReplyDelete@12:04 Yes. And how can such devout Americans fail to produce one child who would join the military to defend their beloved country?
DeleteThat’s not important to some, myself included. I would rather produce a godly human being who can support themselves without the debt of a piece of paper.
DeleteYou'd have to delve into the doctrine of Bill Gothard and IBLP to get your answer to that question.
DeleteRe 4:38 Why would they turn down a chance to serve directly under their favorite Commander in Chief?
DeleteYou can be a college graduate, a Christian, and be without college debt. My husband and I are all three.
Delete@9:38 You absolutely don't have to go into debt to go to college. There are tons of scholarships (needs-based, merit-based), grants, work-study programs, employer-reimbursed programs, free state and local college programs, and you can even gain a college degree while serving in the military (my brother did and then his employer gave him 2 more free years of college afterwards). To say you won't send a child to college because of debt is taking a very narrow view of the potential. Everyone has access to a way to pay for college if they apply themselves. You say you want to produce a human who can support themselves. That will be nearly impossible without some sort of college training or education, whether it be a skilled degree or an academic one. You can still be "godly" and have a degree, too. You might argue that one is more practical than the other when it comes to paying the bills...or maybe helping to support your parents in their old age, when they can't afford the care they need because they didn't put a priority on education, never went to college, and didn't have a high-paying career?
Delete9:38, my child went to college on scholarships, no debt, got the 4-year degree, got good jobs, and by 35 was a millionaire. So there's that. You don't have to pick between godliness and a degree. You can have them both. Starting salaries in tech industries are in the 200K's, if you have the degree required. It's not just a piece of paper. It's a qualification you have the rest of your life.
Delete9:38 lots of college graduates have no debt. They work, get scholarships, go to community college, etc. And sometimes their millionaire dads pay the tuition and other expenses.
Delete@9:38 It's not necessary to degrade a college degree as just "a piece of of paper." Sure.. there are some frivolous and impractical fields of study and you can earn a living without a degree. However, a college degree means that we have engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers, accountants, attorneys, scientists, medical researchers, architects, IT specialists, financial analysts, and many other professionals who help to make our lives better. It is a sad thing that in the US, higher education is so expensive that many go into debt. Countries like Israel, Finland, Sweden, France, Norway, Denmark, and Germany provide government subsidized or tuition-free college, as well as universal health care.
Delete9:38. Do we think this young man’s father might be able to afford college tuition for his son.
DeleteI agree, this sounds like a path to nowhere. If he wants a wife and kids someday, he'd be better off going to a local community college and learning a trade. Then any employer in the area would have hired him in a minute. They stay connected to the colleges (even fund their programs) and the colleges send trained graduates right their way. You are just about guaranteed a job if you get that diploma. "I studied the Bible for a year" is not going to cut it on any legitimate resume.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good idea to me.. going to a University like Master’s University will allow Jackson to study the Bible for a year and if he wants pursue other studies, since they offer everything a liberal arts college offers, except radical leftist views. The bottom line is..he should feel free to find his own Christian path..wherever that leads him.
DeleteHe is not going to Master's University. Not at all. Also, you can go to liberal arts college without becoming a radical leftist. Do you seriously think that's what college does to everyone? Maybe you'd better look up the famous person you know who went to Wharton at U Penn.
DeleteJamaica might need Bibles, so I hope Medicorps is on their way there. Pray for them.
DeleteMedicorps is there: EMERGENCY UPDATE‼️our teams successfully evacuated over 1,300 people directly in the path of Hurricane Melissa! We now have air rescue and ground teams in Jamaica facilitating active relief operations!

@9:46 I've been in natural disasters. Bibles were the last thing I needed when I didn't have shelter, food, or water. This is the very time to put the Bible down and use your head and hands to actually help people who have lost their homes. It's also not the time to take photos of suffering people to put on your Instagram or to use to try to raise funds. Not a "look at me helping" opportunity!
Delete@ 9:14 As someone who graduated from 2 public colleges, I resent your implication that going to a "liberal arts" college (by which you must mean non-Christian based, as was being discussed here) exposes you to "radical leftist views" and therefore turns you into a radical leftist, too. I assure you that there was no time to think about becoming that while writing papers, studying for tests, or buried deep in lab work. If I'm a "leftist" of any sort, it didn't begin in college. It began long before that as I was raised with all segments of society and religions, and shown that the only way to make the world better is to extend love and help others while working towards global understanding and peace. Radical? Leftist? Wouldn't it be nice if everyone acted that way.
Delete12:57 yes he is going to The Master’s University..doing their one year Bible program
Delete@1:39 He was pictured at a different college
DeleteDoes he think he might want to be a preacher like Jeremy? Why would he go to California for that??
ReplyDeleteTo get away from home and spread his wings a little? I think it's great. And maybe it's kind of like a gap year while he figures out what he wants to do or study after this.
DeleteNotice how the boys can get away from home and spread their wings, but the girls have to stay in the house or at best, in the backyard.
DeleteSome people can be “godly” without going to bible college. Better to skip the bible college and go to an accredited community college or 4-year real college or university. -Especially if your father can afford it, or if you’re capable of working during these study years.
ReplyDeleteNo one said going to Bible college makes you "godly." That's something that happens as a person walks with God. However, there are benefits to be had in going to a Bible college, and hopefully he is one who benefits from his experience. He still has time to go to a secular college if he so chooses.
Delete@2:02 What benefits can be had going to a Bible college? Depending on which one you pick (and lots of kids pick the easy path), you might leave there without any kind of practical training that would translate into an immediate job market opening for you. Trying to think of benefits here. Not being around people of other faiths? That's not a benefit, not unless you want to completely separate yourself from a lot of the world and not learn how to get along with others. Not being exposed to things that might tempt you? That's not true, if the campus is co-ed and you're attracted to someone. Not having to deal with seeing and hearing "worldly" thing? I guess if they confiscate your TV, your radio, your computer, and your cell phone and never let you leave campus. I'm really stumped as to the benefits that you would get by attending one of these colleges instead of staying home and just going to church. Or better yet, finding a college that trains you for available jobs that pay enough so you can support yourself and your family, buy a home someday, and pay for retirement later. That's pretty much what everyone is going to have to do in life these days.
DeleteOther commenters have mentioned things he's involved with at school. Sound like benefits to me!
DeleteI enjoyed the interview and it was nice to hear how well Jackson is fitting into campus life at The Master’s University. Sounds like he has really fit in socially with being freshman class president, in the choir , small group choir and drama. He did talk a little about how he had the business back in Arkansas and how he felt this was good timing to go to college, and how much he enjoys it and is considering doing the four year program. I remember what a sweet little boy he was from the show, nice to see what a nice young man he has grown into.
ReplyDeleteGo serve your county in the military. That will make you a real man. Get a 4 year degree become a CPA.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to hear in this interview that Jackson is involved in the Theatre Arts Program at The Master’s University. I read about the two recent graduates from The Master’s University who were hired at a renowned Christian Theatre Company in Branson, Mo. It will to exciting to see what the future will hold for Jackson, and what direction his path will lead.
ReplyDeleteJackson was not always “grouped” with the little girls. He used to be grouped with the younger boys. But when Tyler moved in, Tyler was between Johanna and Jennifer in age so instead of making that group 4 little girls and Tyler, it was decided to pull Jackson in from the boys group so that Tyler would at least have a boy buddy and not start to act too girly. So Jackson was sacrificed and may have missed out on some manly influences. He seems like a nice young man, though. Good luck to him.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Tyler is still engaged to the young lady in TN. Good for them for waiting.
The Duggars need to explanation publicly why none of these grown boys have enlisted in some branch of service to their country. They are patriotic, they aren't afraid to carry guns, they have been to paramilitary Alert Academy, and they're able-bodied. I don't understand why selling used cars or pounding nails is better for them than donning a uniform. There is something stopping these boys. What is it? We never heard Jim Bob say on the show that he was hoping one of his sons (or daughters) would join the military. A politician not promoting this? Why not? I'm afraid of what the answer to that would be...afraid of what they think of the armed forces...afraid of what they're not saying...
ReplyDelete10:20. Oh my, it’s none of our business why the boys have not chosen the military ..I remember on the show they showed them attending some private military program. It would be great if the draft was brought back so all young people would have a turn serving. After 9/11 my teenager insisted on enlisting out of high school..of course I didn’t want him to go, but he had to choose, he knew his dad served during the draft. It’s a personal thing to serve in the military and should be each individual decision. I’m thankful and proud of my son that he served, survived and is now living the American dream.
Delete@9:47 We don't need the draft brought back. We don't fight with sheer numbers of personnel any more, we fight with technology. We don't need every teenager drafted, we need intelligent, educated, trained enlistees who want to serve. Otherwise it would be chaos. We also need military pay reform to help enlistment goals be better met. There are military families who qualify for SNAP (I know - I was there). Congress needs to work on improving that. As far as that "private military program" you saw on TV, that merits its own discussion, but not here. Look it up if you're interested but do so with critical thinking as to what its application in the world would be, what its aim is, and who would benefit. TLDR - it's not you and me.
Delete9:47 If you brought the draft back and wanted all young people to serve, that would have to include women too. They're not so welcome these days. "The purpose is to win wars" and all that.
DeleteIt’s not that women are not welcome in the military. They are not making special allowances for females in certain areas that could end up costing some one else their life in a combat situation.
Delete9:47. I agree, joining the service is a personal thing and should be the decision of each individual.
ReplyDeleteWomen have served in the Military since World War II. They also serve now nothing wrong with it.They are trained just like the men. Bring back the draft.
