Go Jinger! This is not a tell all about her family, it's about a personality trait many people have that causes suffering. Than you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteyou do realise dont u that she hasnt actually written this book
DeleteBoy, she'll do anything and say anything to avoid coming right out and saying, "My parents did this to me and it totally messed me up." She blames herself, she blames "the system we were in," but you know full well who did this to her when she was a child. Parents! I sure hope they've apologized to all their children but seeing as how nothing seems to have changed in the Duggar household after all these years, and seeing how Jill was treated when she spoke up, I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Jinger totally blames her parents. The IBLP belief system may have planted expectations however, many people from all kinds of backgrounds suffer from "people pleasing". Jinger loves her parents and understands that parents can and do make mistakes, I'm just happy she found her way to happiness as an adult.
DeleteI agree. She’s still People Pleasing by not admitting this piece of truth. She blames Bill Gothard, but WHO are the ones who introduced Jinger to Gothard? Right, her parents.
Delete@3:15 Sometimes people can't see what's straight under their noses. That's how you end up following leaders who have morals so bad that they get charged with horrible things, whether they're the head of your church or elsewhere. If people can't see that, then they sure aren't going to see anything wrong with what their parents did.
DeleteWithout her parents buying into IBLP and subjecting the kids to it, there wouldn't be all that fame and this subsequent drama. Totally the parents' fault for anything that way of life created for their kids, whether it was from their religion or their desire to be on TV or both. Their way of life got them on TV. The parents should have seen what was happening to the kids, but the shine from the big stacks of coins must have gotten in their eyes. Now they have one in prison, one on the outs with them, and one telling about how she needed help. It's messed up.
DeleteI watched the one with Melissa Dougherty and I felt like Jinger had been reading my prayer journal because she described me to a T. I especially could relate to over serving at church. I finally allowed myself to let go of a couple of activities but the people pleaser in me feels guilty. I'm looking forward to reading her book.
ReplyDeleteShe gave a fabulous interview on the Lila Rose Podcast
ReplyDeleteI'd like to know if she's had real therapy with a mainstream doctor or is she psychobabbling her way through multiple self-help books that Jeremy and his church are urging her to write, hoping that it "cures" her (and brings attention to that church). After "being free indeed," we were supposed to think that she was free of her old angst.
ReplyDeleteHow nice of you to be so concerned about her well-being.
Delete2:32 There is nothing wrong with pointing out that someone could use professional help instead of more TV appearances. Without Jinger talking about going to doctors, what are people with the same problem supposed to think? That they read Jinger's book and get cured?
DeleteYou don't have to go to a therapist to get rid of people-pleasing tendencies.
DeleteI don't see that anything has really changed. Jinger wants to stay on good terms with her parents and still please the new group she's associated with now in order to maintain their current lifestyle. I don't see her as now being "free" of her past or breaking new ground.
ReplyDeleteBeing free from the beliefs she grew up with does not mean she has to walk away from her parents. I think she thinks the thought they were doing something good....some times parents make mistakes, Jinger gets that and chooses to give them grace.
Delete@10:17 I agree with you. I don't think she's as free now as she thinks she is. Obviously she's still trying to please people too! Writing books is not the solution to her problems.
DeleteOk. Jinger and Jeremy have made their point. They’ve made their fortune. They’ve “de tangled” or whatever the buzz word is. Move on….
ReplyDeleteNo matter how many books Jinger writes her nature and character are the same. She is eager to please everyone that she cares about that's in her orbit.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why anyone would take advice from Jinger or any other Duggar. They are not professionals. The only way they could help you is for you to look at all the mistakes they've made and not copy them. After all these years, that one thing is clear. They have problems they didn't intend for anyone to find out about. But now they are trying to capitalize on those problems. That is sad.
ReplyDeleteHaven't we heard enough at this point? "I was so messed up and then I married Jeremy and he told me what I was doing wrong and now everything is wonderful and I follow him and his church!" How many times and ways can she say the same thing?
ReplyDeleteShe'd better forget about promoting a book and stay home to tend to her kids and household. Pregnant and now a new fire has broken out just west of their area. Once again she's not that far from the evacuation zone. Last one was just south of her. I don't know how she or anyone else in that area could possibly care to focus on her book right now. It's a little insensitive to think they would.
ReplyDeleteListening to the most recent Unplanned Podcast with Jinger, I must say I can’t believe she said the words “that sucks”.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in the 80’s that phrase was followed by something I cannot repeat. It got shortened over the years to what Jinger said. It made me sad and disgusted to hear her speak that way. Just because the world speaks that way doesn’t mean we as Christians need to. I have told my kids, growing up, show me in the Bible where Jesus spoke that way.
And if that’s a way they choose to speak as adults to please be aware of your audience and respect women and elders EVEN if they speak that way.
Jinger marketed her 'Becoming Free Indeed' book by saying it was "...the hardest thing she has ever done". Now that book is no longer a new item in the marketplace, she has this sequel to it "....breaking free..." her current book 'People Pleaser'. So, my point is, it may be hard on her psyche, but she is really into the compensations for doing the "hardest".
ReplyDeleteShe is really into the lifestyle that comes with being an author of books. One might even say it is the most rewarding financially, the coolest in terms of work perks, the most fulfilling as a way to be singled out and seen as "famous".
I wonder how Jeremy really feels about being the partner to a woman who is so into 'about myself' publications. It seems like Jinger wants the spotlight on 'herself' and we have not seen the last of her "big performances".
Jinger can write and say what she wants. She lived through all of it. Free to write what she wants. Give her a break don't read her book. She lived through a lot.
