New Release Date for Jill's Book

It has been just over two weeks since Jill (Duggar) Dillard announced the upcoming release of her new book, Counting the Cost. It was initially set to come out in January 2024, but the publisher was able to bump that up by four months. The new release date is September 12th, 2023.

  1. Looks like those parents are really reaping (some of) what they sowed.

  2. My goodness not another tell all-book! If these girls have enough time to obsess about what they feel wasn't perfect about their youth then they have enough time to take classes and get a career. It would be alot better for them then all this negatively they are causing their families. I'm sure their spouses didn't have perfect childhoods and yet there is no tell alls coming out about their families. The fact that their husbands are ok with them doing this to their Duggar family shows that they don't have any respect for them or their family. The spouses wouldn't dare disrespect their own family like this. Girls learn to have some self respect!!!

    3. Their husbands are perfectly fine with what they are doing and the hate its bringing to the Duggar family because they like the money and attention it brings them, after all those expensive shoes and lifestyle isn't going to buy itself. Shameful!

    4. Their upbringing prevented them from gaining the skills necessary to acquire decent paying employment. Also, I’m pretty sure she’s homeschooling her kids, which wouldn’t leave much time for a job. Other than the logistics of getting a well paying job, she was raised in an environment that most people would consider abusive. Many people want to learn about the reality because obviously what was presented on TV was based on lies. She has every right to speak about her childhood, especially because she was forced to grow up in the public eye. If it makes you uncomfortable, don’t read it. She doesn’t owe it to anybody to keep quiet about the trauma she endured.

    5. People who have been abused, absolutely have the right to tell their story. You should be ashamed of trying to shame them!

      Delete
    6. It is because the ‘girls’ who are women, have self respect that they are talking about Gothard and their upbringing. The husbands are supporting their wives not telling them what to do.

    7. Anon 6:57 Abused? They were in a stricter type denomination where there was a focus on modesty, integrity, serving in ministries, loving God and others etc. The fact that they laid those things down and became people who love material things, Instagram's full of them being in the latest styles and fancy restaurants and trips they have been on shows that they have become people who are all about themselves and shows how their priorities have changed. Their siblings raised by the same parents are doing just fine and are happy in their lives. Just because they changed doesn't mean their parents have to now hold their heads down as if they have done things wrong in raising them to love God and others. If they want more money and attention then do it in a more honorable way and earn it in a legitimately way and not at the expense of their family and friends. Their parents and the Bates are being absolutely attacked online over what they are

    8. People who love their family and friends don't write books for the public and scrutinize them online and in a documentary knowing full well how awful the horrible blowback that their family is going to get from this and then the next thing you see them post are all the worldly goodies they are now buying for themselves from the money they made. What happened to God in their lives? No its shameful no matter how you try to spin it.

    10. Where is Jeremy's "My parents weren't perfect' book? After all he was wild and landed in jail and so I'm assuming that was because his parents made mistakes raising him to have no boundaries or self control, so where is his book? Hey if you are ok with your wife's woes of her childhood then why stop there, throw your parents under the bus too.

      Delete
    11. I agree with you 1:58 and 10:10. It is shameful and Jill and Jinger should apologize.

      Delete
    12. @1:58 Maybe God moved them to tell the truth for once, no matter how it came out. As far as the "goodies," it's natural for someone growing up feeling deprived to flaunt a little bit later on when they finally have a way to buy things. They do that and get it out of their systems. They don't realize how tacky it is because nobody told them as a child that they shouldn't do that. They also need to feel important and need to feel some self-worth. Again, things missing while growing up, replaced now by material things.

    13. Jeremy was in jail?? I'm surprised JB would allow a union between him and Jimger

      Delete
    14. @9:08 YES. Jinger seems to only now be going through what teenage girls go through with clothes and shoes and selfies. Jeremy is no better with his desires to show off everything. The both seem immature.

      Delete
    15. 10:25 Jeremy was arrested and fined after grabbing a police officer one night, while out drinking with friends. Not exactly hard time in jail. But it supposedly "changed" his life and he saw the errors of his sinful ways, yadda yadda. Exactly the kind of "salvation" story that would appeal to Jim Bob. You can put all kinds of spin on any situation, can't you.

      Delete
    16. Jeremy is lucky he didn't get shot. Laying hands on a police officer is assault and that includes grabbing him.

  5. I may or may not read this new book that is coming out. I havent decided. I do have one question I recently heard that Jana Duggar may have a guy from Tennessee she is interested in- is that true? I am wondering. If that is true congrats Jana.

  6. Jill tries to make more money selling her "book" using the surge in interest generated by the docuseries. The family is nearly forgotten by wider audiences and here comes her lucky chance!

    1. So what? You don't have to buy her book. I think she has a lot to offer and am looking forward to the book.

      Delete
    2. It had to be the publisher who pushed up this date, not Jill.

      Delete
    3. The publishing date is determined by the publisher. If the date has been moved up because of the docu series, the publisher has decided to do that. Jill just cant call up a publisher and tell them to!

      Delete
    4. It’s up the publisher when to release it. Not Jill. The Duggar parents can write their own book if they want. I would also like to say writing a book does not make a ton of money.

      Delete
    5. 12:40 If Jill wanted to ride the coat tails of the docuseries, she would have worked some sort of deal to have it released this month. As 9:44 said, it's up to the publisher and their marketing team to come up with a date, not the author. If Jill had self-published and released it at the same time as the docuseries, then you could raise an eyebrow. But you can't in this case.

      Delete
    6. I really don’t see how you can concurrently be diehard fans of the Duggars yet ridicule someone for monetizing attention. The parents’ entire livelihood has been monetizing attention. Forget one book, one documentary—how about a decade-plus of selling attention as your career?

    7. @11:22 - the parents used their TLC money to build a big house for the whole family; all the family took numerous trips within the USA as well as to the UK, Israel, Japan, China. Without the TLC, the parents with all their kids would be living in some 3-bedroom house, eating canned food and shopping at thrift shops. Instead, all their kids got houses when they got married, and Jill also living in some mansion when she just married. All the equipment the Duggar guys have for their towing business, or building business, or car lots - all comes from their parents. Each kid has a car. Joy was driving a Mercedes before she was married. And all that comes from TLC. So the whole family was benefiting from the show.

      Delete
    8. Joy and all the other kids were driving those sketchy used cars they bought at auction.

      Delete
    9. @9:46- The adult children should have had complete control over their own TLC contracts and the money made from them, not their father. Jill said that she was kept in the dark about them and her parents had actually signed for her without her knowledge. That's forgery.

  7. I'm looking forward to that. Should be a good read.

    1. I, too, enjoyed Jinger's book. She had wonderful things to say about her parents, was careful not to "throw them under the bus," while setting the record straight on what salvation truly is and how the IBLP way is man-made.

      Delete
    2. I think Jill might throw her parents under the bus

      Delete
    3. I think Jinger was scared to throw her parents under the bus. Jill might not be as scared. IBLP and anything like it that harms children all belong under the bus.

  10. I definitely can't wait to read Jill's book. Hopefully it will be a true tell all and not a white washed version like Jinger's book was. Jill and Derick are both amazing people!

  12. I wonder how these young women find the time to write books, do interviews, etc. As a mother of 3 young children, l barely had time to brush my teeth or use the restroom. Between cleaning, laundry, changing diapers, feeding the baby, errands, medical appointments, etc. I was left with very little extra time each day. We each have 24 hours in a day so if these young women are writing books and doing publicity events, what are they not doing for their children and spouses? I just wonder how they do it.

    ReplyDelete

    1. @7:08 This is where ghostwriters come in. They can take notes, do the writing, and then you clean it up with them. Jinger and Jeremy and The Ghostwriter rented or somehow procured a house and went there to do some last-minute editing without the kids. Someone posted pictures from then. I don't know what she did for childcare during all those promotion events, podcasts, etc. Priorities?

    2. Perhaps the kids fathers actually parent their kids? No one wonders how he can pastor with kids or he can be a lawyer with small kids.

    1. Jim Bob and Michelle aren't perfect and have made mistakes, but Jinger and Jill were hardly abused. Jinger said she grew up in a loving household in spite of Gothard's extremism. They should never have been on reality TV, but the girls especially Jill shouldn't be airing the dirty laundry out for all the world to see. These things should be handled privately.

      Delete
    2. @5:55 You should ask Jinger and Jill about that before you claim they "were hardly abused." Remember, there are many types of abuse.

      Delete
    3. Anon 5:55. Family relationships are not a one way street. If Jill and Jonger want to talk about their experiences then they are free to do so. It may make fans of the show uncomfortable but that's the price the Duggars have paid for fame.

      Delete
    4. They were literally abused. You can’t just rewrite reality and say they weren’t abused because that’s your preferred narrative.

      Delete
    5. 5:55 -- Why should Jill and Jinger keep quiet when they know they had a role in promoting IBLP to the public, now that they no longer belong to that sect?

      Delete
  17. This is kind of amusing, since Jill was the most talkative of the girls back when the show was on. Seeing Jinger get all those interviews must have been more than Jill could sit still for. Now, fast reaction, Jills' got her own whirlwind of talk show interviews to schedule (or at least she's dreaming shell get those too). I think this is what it is all really about and money, (loyalty, unity, honoring parents...those things don't fit for her bill).
I'm not interested in these girls endless, long, drawn out often microscopic analysis. Who wants to be there for that, not me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So you're supposed to suffer in silence in the name of "honoring your parents" and "family loyalty"? Why? Jill has a right to talk about her life and if it's not pretty then that's the way the cookie crumbles.

      Delete
    2. @6:55 Why wouldn't Jill support "certain groups"? The people in those "groups" are human beings too. It's a shame some people can't accept that.

      Delete
    3. Seems like Jinger and Jill are Inna competition or something..who can isolate the family more

      Delete
    4. @6:55 Is there a reason you're projecting your expectations for morals and ethics onto someone else? Those are personal and not for others to decide. Neither Jill nor those "certain groups" are doing anything illegal, so I don't see a problem.

    5. @1:41pm Matthew 15:3-9 “Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’ they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
      They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’”

  18. I wonder why the other Duggar kids seem so well adjusted and happy, but Jill and Jinger seem like they are traumatized. Something isn't adding up!

    Replies
    1. We have no idea what the other kids are thinking and feeling. The wall of silence doesn't mean they are "happy" or "well adjusted".

      Delete
    2. It's not adding up.. the little kids were always happy on the show. Kids that young dont have the ability to fake that kind of happy. Jana hasn't said much either.

    3. Everyone processes things differently.

      Delete
    4. Everyone is different! I have 11 siblings, and things that really bothered some of them growing up didn't faze me at all. Jill has a very sensitive nature, and Jinger seems prone to anxiety. They would obviously struggle under this type of upbringing, when others may not.

      Delete
    5. In any family, the dynamics and experiences play out differently depending on birth order. This would be especially true when there are 19 kids. The older Duggars were basically raising the younger ones and shouldered more responsibility from the time they were old enough to change a diaper. Also, it was the older girls who were victims of Josh's depravity.

      Delete
  19. Jill writing a book. Sure. She has a ghost writer for sure just like the other book.

  20. Jill is the "trailblazer" in her family. Good for her. From my experience, the trailblazer takes all the heat but in the long term the rest of the kids reap the benefits as the parents lighten up in an effort to keep them in the fold.

  21. God bless this family.

    2. Whatever Jim Bob's feelings about this book, he has no power to prevent it from being published.

    3. I'm waiting for news of more lawsuits that will get dismissed with an eye roll from a judge.

      Delete
    4. Jim Bob is not in charge of what books are published. Who cares if he's mad about the book?

      Delete
    5. Jim could file a lawsuit to stop the book. It’s been done before.

      Delete
    6. Anon 5:12 I doubt thatt JB could file a lawsuit as he has no legal ground to do so. Jill has the right to write her memoirs.

      Delete
  23. I read Jinger's book and didn't find it to be a "tell all" at ALL. It was clear that Jinger still loves and respects her parents, but wanted to set the record straight on what she has since learned about TRUE salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, which is not a result of works or man-made IBLP rules. I and am looking forward to reading Jill's book, also.
