Jessa's Mini-Me

Jessa Seewald and Ivy Seewald
Jessa Seewald and Ivy Seewald

The Seewald children are growing quickly! Spurgeon Seewald will be five years old in November, and Henry Seewald turned three in February. Ivy Seewald is one year old, which means that Jessa and Ben could be "expecting" another pregnancy in the near future. The boys are one year and three months apart, while Henry and Ivy are two years and three months apart.

All of that aside, we would like to point out the fact that little Ivy is Jessa's mini-me. Do you agree?

  4. Their house is tiny. Ben is unemployed. I tend to doubt they would want another right now.

    1. They’re not unemployed. They’re stars on a popular tv show! That’s a lot of work.

    2. Are you serious? Of course they want MORE kids. That's what they do (have babies)

      Delete
    3. Agree. It is irresponsible to bring innocent children into a household that is not financially stable.

      Delete
    4. Ben is not unemployed. He works and earns money on a TV show.

      Delete
    5. The house is a 2-bedroom house. They could get bunk beds for boys, to have more space. Ben is helping Jim Bob re work, and also they all are on TV show that pays. They'll be fine!

      Delete
    6. And you know the details of Ben's employment status, how, exactly?

      Delete
    7. To those of you claiming that the kids are getting paid to be on the show, how can you be sure? Derick has said that Jim Bob is/was the only one with a contract for the show. The kids did not have separate contracts and direct payment for their part on the show, which is one of the reasons Derick said he pulled his family from the show - the resounding "unpaid volunteers" statement of his. So how do you know that Jim Bob isn't controlling the show income and that the kids aren't being compensated some other way, like having to earn it back in the form of working for the family businesses? There's some reason why Ben and Jessa got Grandma's little house and not use of the McMansions that Jill and Derick got.

    8. I love children. I know children are a gift from the Lord. I have 5 adult children myself. I just can't understand why people would want children in these evil times. Don't hate on my comment. Just give insight to why.

    9. @2:14- The world has always been a place of turmoil, unrest, and bad influences. I'm sure there were many people throughout history, enduring horrible things, who thought it was pointless to have children. I'm not advocating having kids one way or the other, but I really don't think times now are any worse than any other. Contrary to what it seems sometimes, there is good in the world. BTW, I have adult children, too. We adopted them because we thought it better to provide a home for those who were already born into this world, but needed a loving home. I have never regretted not having biological children.

      Delete
    10. 2:14, I remember hearing someone tell me that they didn't want to have kids because of the condition of the world at least 30 years ago! I think the reason people do want to is because of hope.

    11. Anon 2:30 A lot of work? LOL. Camera crews show up twice a year to film for a couple weeks, a lot of work?. Ben needs to be an example to his children by showing them how a man works hard so one day they will work hard for their families. If a family is setting themselves up to be an example to the younger generation, then be that example and get a job and show the younger generation and your own children how it's done. i think it's so disrespectful for an able bodied man to be lazy and not work. I come from a family of hard working men and women and so to see how these people live with the men hanging around the house all day is such a horrible example to their children and others. Ben should talk to some of the Bates men and they can show him how it's done.

    12. Wasn't there evil around when your children were born? The fact is, evil has been with us from the beginning. You don't let it control your life, though. And if you believe in and follow the Lord, you should have no real fear of evil, either. You have His protection from Satan.

    13. Debbie I get what you are saying but remember, it rains on the just and the unjust so we Christians will go through very hard times too but the difference is that we know where we are going when we leave here and so we have the assurance that death will be swallowed up in Victory and we will be with our Savior for all eternity.

    1. I think that is just talk, for the show. Besides, their house is too small. They'd never get approved.

    2. They're not going to adopt. It was just a "talking point". I think there's already another "bun in the oven".

      Delete
    3. I don’t think they’ll qualify for adoption. There are financial requirements, your youngest child has to be a certain age, and your house has to have a certain # of kids per square footage.

      Delete
    4. It was terrible for real adoptive parents! They only want a lot of their own kids. Adoption is a Christian thing.

  9. I believe they only have a 2 bedroom house... kids beds on the floor ... they need to concentrate on adding a room or 2 on before having any more children. Jessa can’t keep up with the 3 children she has much less adopt.... no room. Not being negative ... just a fact .... at least she is learning to cook....

    3. 2:37, she does know how to cook. The OP is being unnecessarily uncomplementary.

    4. @11:54 This is the girl who toasted the oven instructions when she first tried to use the oven. Ben took over, remember?

      Delete
    5. 4:41, she was a newlywed when that happened. So not applicable as an example of her current ability.

      Delete
    6. I think the issue was that during the 14-19 Kids and Counting years and the Growing Up Duggar book, we were told that the girls were all learning (or already knew how) to cook, bake, sew, care for/entertain/teach children. Then we find out that wasn't true. Jessa really shouldn't need Jana to help out a lot. Ben & Jessa shouldn't need their extended family members to help out a lot when the Jessa is a stay at home mom with no job (not saying that homemaking and taking care of your children isn't a job). A number of stay at home moms with children run home-based businesses, without their siblings or grandparents stepping in regularly to take care of the children.

  10. Dear posters who get upset and irate when others speculate on a Duggar pregnancy, it's time to be fair and take issue with this blog article. LOL As for the article, I don't appreciate teasers (whether it's in a blog article or a TLC clip). If she's pregnant, just say so. I don't like people playing coy and playing games, just to up their readership or viewing numbers. Not cool.

    2. These are Duggars. They are pregnant all the time. It is what they do...

      Delete
    3. I find this constant speculation on whether someone is pregnant or not distasteful. It is as if the only role and importance these Duggar women have is pumping out babies. There MUST be something else happening in Jessica's life than pregnancy.

      Delete
    4. Anon 2:00. Yeah. No wonder people keep speculating on which one is pregnant NOW. lol

      Delete
    5. 9:36 - the answer is no. It appears the girls must not have much going on in their lives but carrying children, announcing gender of children, birthing children, raising children, teaching children, cooking for children, playing with children, taking children to the doctor, celebrating children’s birthdays. That’s all we ever see. Now with the coronavirus we don’t see traveling with children or big celebrations with children, which is good. I’m glad they make responsible decisions about their children. Not that there is anything whatsoever wrong with their life’s choice. It’s just all we ever see because there are so many Duggar children! 🥰

  11. Not sure if they honestly believed their own adoption talk, if they realized there might be legal or other complications with the adoption process (when your being paid to allow people to film your family from ultrasound to funeral), if the past issues with Joshua and how that situation was handled created an issue in the adoption process (as the child would likely be around Joshua at family events and likely in the care of Jim Bob/Michelle at times), if they just changed their minds for some reason (but didn't want to disclose that for fear of being judged), if their financial situation is not maybe where they anticipated it being (or where they would like it to be yet), if they wanted to be more financially stable with a larger home (and more room), if they wanted to wait to have "their own children" first, or if they just talked about adopting because it sounded noble at the time. Sometimes things and people change as they grow up. Things that sounded great at the time may not be so feasible or readily achievable later on. Sometimes our desires change or we learn more about ourselves (our capabilities and our limitations) or we realize there is a gap between idealism and reality. Their situation just may be different now or they may be different as they've grown up and taken on more responsibility personally. That might be a good question for TLC to ask though because I'm sure you're not to only viewer/poster/fan to wonder about this. It's ok for Jessa and Ben to change their minds on this. Adoption is a lifetime commitment and often comes with Reactive Attachment Disorder issues and other bonding or behavioral issues depending on the age of the child and their developmental process. It's not always the rosy picture it's painted to be. There's also any long-term effects on the other children in a household (if any), as well as the parents' marriage to consider. It's best to go into it eyes wide open or not at all because a child is a lifetime commitment.

    1. @4:56- I am an adoptive mom of two, both are now adults. You certainly give plenty of reasons not to adopt, that's for sure and if anyone has all those reservations, then they shouldn't. The reality is, parenthood is not always the rosy picture it's painted to be, regardless of whether or not you gave birth to your kids. There are no guarantees that the road will be smooth or without plenty of twists and turns even if you share biology. If you want easy and stress-free, don't have any kids at all! IMO, the pro-life religious folks who are very quick to say that a woman facing an unwanted or unhealthy pregnancy should be forced to give birth, should be the first in line to either foster or adopt. It's called walking the talk, rather than waiting for someone else to step up. I seriously doubt any of the Duggars would adopt because their priority is obviously with having as many biological children as possible.

      Delete
    2. RAD is pretty rare, unless you are talking about adoption of older children from foster care. I do agree, though, that Jessa and Ben never really intended to adopt. It was just all talk, by idealistic young people.

      Delete
    3. I think there are a lot of young Christian couples who go into marriage with very idealistic ideas about what their life will be like, and they consider things like adoption but over time they realize it's not for them.

You are right, adoption does come with a lot of challenges. Seems like the people who want to adopt dont get to, and those that could don't.

      Delete
    4. 12:43, I know a Christian woman who would adopt even though she has enough kids if she knew of a baby that would otherwise be aborted. I would want to too. I've heard of it being done too. People who stand outside of abortion clinics with signs saying we will take your baby are not joking.

      Delete
    5. You're expecting religious people to accept responsibility for YOUR actions and they should be the first in line to foster or adopt YOUR kids when you don't want the pregnancy? How about you take responsibility for YOUR own actions and accept what you get if you decide to be sexually active. You folks want in the game, but want the child or religious people to pick up the pieces when things don't go your way. Usually the poor baby pays with its life.

      Delete
    6. 3:27- Are those same folks lining up to be foster parents or adopt older kids? That’s where the real need is.

      Delete
    7. @3:27, telling a woman she should go through with a pregnancy just because you want it is easier said then done. Prenatal care costs money, who will pay for it? What if she has a health problem which makes pregnancy dangerous, what if she loses her job? What if she is disowned by her family? What if she miscarries or has a stillbirth? What if she changes her mind late on? Standing outside an abortion clinic and saying you will adopt is easy for you to say because you are not the one who is pregnant.

      Delete
    8. People who stand outside of abortion clinics in an attempt to shame women who are exercizing their constitutional rights need to find something else to do. If they want to change the law protest at your congressman's office or at the supreme court....untill that law is changed the women do not deserve to be shamed and shouted at.

      Delete
    9. "We will take your baby" = We will place it for adoption and collect the fees ourselves. It's a business to them. I know one woman who worked at an abortion clinic and under the table, without background check, paying any fees, or properly advertising for the birth father, arranged an adoption from an 18 yr. old mother who had come for an abortion but was then too scared and too intimidated by this woman to say no to the adoption. The woman who took the baby knew she would not have qualified to adopt unless she seized that opportunity herself, outside the usual channels. Don't believe me? This happened in my family and I'm that baby's relative!

      Delete
    10. Debbie- Wow. Your response is quite far removed from anything that is compassionate or caring for life- at least not after birth.

      Delete
    11. 8:25, your situation was about someone who works in the abortion industry, not exactly a place known for caring about babies' lives. Those who are there trying to save babies' lives? I find them a lot more credible when they say they are willing to take a baby.

      Delete
    12. How about we exercise some personal responsibility and prevent the pregnancy in the first place? Many people want all the "privileges of being an adult" with none of the responsibilities of being an adult. Please don't tell me that no birth control method is 100% effective because we've been married nearly 30 years and have successfully maintained our family size (to what we could afford and handle) by combining two birth control methods for 18 years. It's called being responsible. Statistically, the vast majority of abortions are sought by unmarried young women wanting to play who "got caught" and don't want anyone to know and "don't want IT to wreck their future". FWIW I've had friends who had an abortion, friends who kept the baby and became very good parents, and friends who've given the baby up for adoption...none of them were married and all of them wished they'd made better choices and been more responsible.

      Delete
    13. 9:26, very good point!

      Delete
    14. 9:26 not every body is as lucky as you. Even responsible people have accidents sometimes. Regarding your statement on your unmarried friends and wishing they had made better choices, well almost everybody at some points in their life wishes that had made better choices. So telling us that your friends who wish they had made better choices is irrelevant

      Delete
    15. Thing is 9:26, you don't know your birth control has failed until it's too late, married or not. You can think you're being responsible, your doctor can tell you you're being responsible, but things can turn out quite the opposite despite all those efforts. I have first-hand knowledge of this, while married. What "better choice" or how much "more responsible" was I supposed to be?

  23. I don't see the resemblance at all, really. I agree that the Seewalds need to do something about their living arrangements. They have a daughter who should have her own bedroom. I also don't agree with a family bed where all 5 of them are in one bed/room. At some point, it should not continue.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They have 2 bedrooms. One master bedroom where Jessa and Ben sleep (and I assume Ivy now stays with them). One other room where the boys sleep. Seeing how brothers easily cut a wall of their bedroom to make a door out to the porch and how they built a porch in one day, I think they could just add an extra room there the same way.

      Delete
    2. Why is it so important that a one-year old have her own bedroom? She is probably happier and more secure with her brothers. I doubt she wants to sleep alone in a room.

      Delete
    3. Perhaps they could have the Duggar sons do a room addition. The boys are supposed to know how to do home improvement projects.

      Delete
    4. Why would you think that all five are in the same bed/room?

      Delete
    5. I agree with Anon 1:41PM, a one year old does not need an own room, all kids can live in one room, or Ivy could just stay with her parents. She definitely wakes up at night, so it will be easier to take care of her.

    6. I'm sure if the house is comfortable for them, that's all that matters. People can get by on a LOT less than what we desire.

    8. You saw what happened when all those Duggar children were crammed into one little rental house. Do you really want Jessa to have to live through too many kids in too small of a house again?

      Delete
    9. @6:30 Except it didn't work, if you've heard what the kids had to say about those years and how uncomfortable it was. Didn't Jill talk about taking food into the bathroom to hide and eat it?

      Delete
    10. 11:56 AM: where did "the kids" say "how uncomfortable it was"? It did work! Yes, they had lines to the bathroom, but they traveled around and were each other's best friends! I don't recall Jill saying she had to hide in the bathroom to eat! They had enough food, just Jill needed more privacy and probably just ate too slow. Like, Duggars indeed made it work in a small house! And when it was obvious they overgrew it, they just built the big one!

      Delete
    11. Jessa and Ben have a 2 bedroom house, 2 bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen area with a dining table, a huge yard and a large deck. It's 2 adults and 3 small kids. How come it can be so small? Are people here living in mansions? What about those Asian immigrants who bunch by dozens in one room and nobody cares. Look at Sierra, Duggar's friend, she now has 7 kids and similar house. Joy lived in an RV for couple of years. John lives in a trailer. Why such an attention to a family with 3 very small kids who have a real house with 2 full bedrooms, and that's in addition to 2 other rooms (living and dining/kitchen)?

      Delete
    12. @10:10 The kids don't just say things on the show. They say things off the show too. Guess you haven't heard everything they've said.
@10:17 This family knows that girls and boys should have separate bedrooms and separate ones from their parents. With only 2 bedrooms in that house and now 2 boys, 1 girl, something has to be changed.

      Delete
    13. Anonymous @10:10- Yes on 14 Kids and Counting, the children did indeed talk about how being crammed together was chaotic, frustrating, and stressful. The parents poor choices did emotionally impact their children. Jim Bob and Michelle weren't the ones being forced to share their room with 3-4 other children- they were the only ones with any privacy. Some children are naturally more quiet and emotionally sensitive than others. Being constantly exposed to a noisy, busy, crowded environment (from which they get little to no break) creates stress (similar to PTSD). It's not really loving your children to perpetrate that on them. We know a similar family with 10 children in a too-small house and one of their daughters has experienced some stress-related health issues. People shouldn't keep having children if they can't provide for their physical and emotional needs. We're not talking 2-3 children sharing a room with bunk beds here. We're talking 14 children crammed into a 3-bedroom house with one bathroom (14 Kids and Counting) and needing Grandma Mary to come regularly to help with the housework. Fact: Michelle & Jim Bob were unable to take care of their own children on their own on a daily basis.

    14. I find the reference to "Asian immigrants who bunch by dozens in one room" to be offensive. It's a gross exaggeration and offensive towards all immigrants.

    1. It's not a secret. Ben appears on the TV show and does odd jobs for JB and Michelle.

    2. We don’t have to know. Why do we have to know anyways? I’m sure if people knew what he does for work they would be complaining about his job.

      Delete
    3. Why do we need to know? I sure don't. I don't care what any of them do for a living, as long as it's not illegal. It's none of my business. I watch the show and enjoy it, but I don't have burning questions about the things the show doesn't fill us in on.

    6. I don't believe for a moment that some of you "don't care" what a Duggar does for a living. I'll bet you could name exactly what each one does, as shown on the show. Of course you care.

    7. They film the birth of their own children, weddings, honeymoon so why would what Ben does for a living be a secret, so I'll answer the question for you, he doesn't work. lol If he did work then we would know.

    8. 4:45, knowing a fact because I've seen it on tv is completely different from personally caring what the fact is. Do you really not see a difference? I know what all the kids' names are, but I don't really care what their names are. It literally does not matter to me. Same with their jobs.

    1. What a shame they need so many mini-mes, and never help a child in need of a home. It is hard to take their abortion beliefs seriously when they continue to have babies when theycould help one.

      Delete
    2. 3:22 PM: they make beautiful children, never think about aborting them obviously, and this is what "against abortion" is. If they get pregnant, they have this child. They were thinking about adoption when they got married and then they had 2 kids right after another, and their hands were full. I don't see why would you post all over this spread about adoptions.

      Delete
    3. What is wrong with discussing adoption? Ben and Jessa brought it up. It was even in several of their People magazine articles. Clearly, it's something they want to discuss.

      Delete
  35. The interesting thing is, if you care so much about babies that you oppose abortion (which I respect), why wouldn't you rush to give a child a home? It's hard to take these families seriously in their quest to end abortion, when couple after couple doesn't give a child a home. There are so many kids in need of a home. I am an adoptive parent who has visited orphanages, so I know this is true.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think you can rush, can you? Isn't adoption a longish process? If it were easier and less expensive, I'll bet more people would do it.

      Delete
    2. @11:21 All those un-aborted babies are someone else's to raise. The protesters and marchers never seem to get that far in the thought process. Would they vote for candidates who would increase social services for all those un-adopted children? Never. It's easier to hold up a sign or wear a t-shirt and tell others what they have to do.

      Delete
    3. 4:30 and 8:14 -- You are both wrong. There are MANY Christian charities and private citizens who will both help expectant mothers with expenses and adopt their children. I donate to one that gives mothers who decide to keep their babies cold hard cash for rent, food, diapers, etc. In any event, abortion is killing a human life. Life begins at conception, as has been taught in 8th grade health for decades, at least.

      Delete
    4. 11:57- The Supreme Court settled this in 1973. There is no consensus on when life as a person begins. That's why their decision was based on a woman's right to privacy, and that the government cannot determine the outcome of a pregnancy or force her to give birth. It's about choice and you have a choice never to have an abortion.

      Delete
    5. @11:57 What happens when that rent money runs out? Is there 18 years more money where that came from? Would you vote or pay more taxes to increase public assistance? Would you vote for social programs that fund these children to adulthood? Would you support programs that prevent child abuse and provide educational help? Raising a child with a stressed parent or parents involves a lot more than providing some diapers.

Think what would happen if all mothers were forced to bear children they don't want. Think what would happen if two lives died in pregnancy, not one. That's what was happening before abortion was legalized and done safely. I'm old enough to remember desperate women and back alleys and all that. For that matter, this has been happening for thousands of years and was practiced legally in some forms in Rome and the Middle East.

      Delete
    6. @7:48 I've seen what happens when the money runs out. It happened to my friend's granddaughter, her husband, and her baby. They had help at first but then lost their apartment, were living with friends, and the husband became abusive towards the baby. He's now in jail and the baby was taken by the state. Three lives messed up instead of just two.

      Delete
    7. Anonymous @5:25- You're right that I have a choice to never have an abortion. I should also have the right to not to be forced to co-fund someone else's though. My tax dollars, gained from my hard work (i.e. income), should not pay for someone to kill the baby developing in their womb. If it's her right, her privacy, her body, let her pay for her own abortion instead of crowdfunding.

      Delete
    8. @8:22, people could say the same thing about blood transfusion? I know Jehovah’s Witness don’t approve of blood transfusions because of their religion. But their taxes still fund low income patients getting them because it’s a medical procedure. Abortion is a medical procedure as well so I don’t understand why Christians think they should not fund medical procedures for low income people just because they don’t approve of it.

      Delete
    9. 11:57, life beginning at conception is a Christian concept not a scientific one. Scientist and doctors don’t have a consensus on when life begins. So outlawing abortion Especially in the first trimester is making laws a certain religion which is illegal.

      Delete
    10. Anon 8:22. Yes, let's use that money to help that baby. All children need to eat and have a stable home, even if their parents cannot provide it. This is putting the child first, thanks!

      Delete
    11. @8:22 You don't get that type of say about exactly where your tax dollars go. There are plenty of things I don't like my tax dollars paying for, but this is a democracy and the leaders we voted for make the decisions so that's that. We all have to make concessions. Liberty for all, not liberty only for those who think exactly like you do.

      Delete
    12. Anon 8:22. Since tax payer funds are NOT used to pay for abortions you don't have much of a reason for complaining about "your" tax money being spent on them.

When you make your living off of filming your life and life events, you're both inviting the scrutiny and you need to keep the public talking about you to keep the interest up to attract viewers, which ensures sponsors, which ensures you and your family get paid. You publicize your life online through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and personal blogs (sharing recipes, pictures, musings, family anecdotes, etc.). You sell your wedding and birth exclusives to high volume magazines (with websites) to generate both interest and additional income. You want and need people to watch, talk, and speculate.

    1. I hope you're wrong about the 2nd bedroom. I think it's a bad idea for children the ages Spurgeon and Henry are to be in the parent's bedroom. Adults need their privacy. Also I hope they never adopt. I'm not on board with IBLP teachings and therefore don't care for the idea of children being raised in that environment.

    1. Babies are unique individuals, but it is fun to see obvious features they inherit from relatives! And their looks change as they get older and sometimes look like other relatives than at first! My son did'nt favor me or his dad, but he favored his2nd cousin when little. Now as a young adult, he favors my dad when he was an older teen. Not a bit like me or his dad at all. Not even his hair color. And his freckles go further back. No one on both sides of immediate family have freckles. He is my only child to have freckles. My great grandmother's paternal side and maybe further back had them. It's a great way to keep family history alive. I have never been around a person who DIDN'T compare their child's looks to someone else.

      Delete
    2. That's great, but it avoids the fact that most babies have obvious family resemblances.

  43. This is not meant to be snarky, but I think we found out finally that Ben is in school and nothing was said about working (on the latest episode). Jessa bought a whole shopping cart full of groceries (of course I know they have to eat!!) but I really wonder where the funds come from. Yes I know it's none of my business! Just curious how they live when apparently neither one works. Or if they do the job is not mentioned.
