Forsyths Move In

A few weeks ago, we shared a photo of the house that the Forsyths purchased as their residence (not to resell). Today, we are happy to report that Joy and Austin Forsyth have officially moved in! They still have a lot of unpacking and organizing to do, but doesn't that kitchen look marvelous?

  4. Yes, the kitchen is great!

  5. Hopefully they will enjoy this home for many years. It is large enough for several children if they choose to have more. Beautiful home.

  6. While I think this is a lovely home for Joy and Austin, I have reservations about how they purchased it. I know Joy and Austin work hard fixing up houses and selling them for profit but lately, I've read several reports (some on this blog) that Jim Bob was very involved in the purchase of this house. Jim Bob didn't do anything illegal but it gives a false impression of how the Duggers do business. My husband and I had our college diplomas, good jobs, married and worked 6 years before we could buy our first home, no help from mom or dad, no deed/property transfers, etc.
I don't watch the show regularly any more. I guess I've become disappointed in this "reality" show.

    1. I agree with you. But I also think these kids earned some money some how filming the show. So if this is how they are paid ????

    2. Oh my gosh, the complaints about them living in an RV and flipped houses and now this. Austin flipped 5 houses before he and Joy married. From what I've seen on TV, Austin's father taught him well; hard work and prepare for marriage, especially financially. And, yes, they have income from the tv show, but they're not sitting on their duffs either. Kudos to you for your diplomas, jobs, etc., but not everyone follows the same path. If you don't watch the show, why make negative comments. Austin & Joy....congratulations; the house looks really beautiful!

    3. The reality is that their family is close and helps each other out. I'm not sure why you have reservations about how they purchased it when it doesn't affect you personally and was done legally. Who cares if her dad helped them?

      Delete
    4. Who cares about how they purchased it. They work hard and a re not just sitting around living off of mom and dad. If the parents can afford to help them out with a starter home they evidently had to remodel to live in then it is no big deal.

      Delete
    5. My in-laws helped us with the down payment for our first house. That does not make us lesser than you. If Joy's dad helped them out, that does not make them lesser than you either.

    6. Sounds like buying your first was a struggle? If helping my kids buy a house means less struggle for them and I have the ability to help, I would. My parents paid $16.9K for their first home, brand spanking new 3 bedroom ranch in 1967.....that same home today was recently listed for $359K....have wages gone up that much....maybe, but it's a lot. You know what they say, you can't take it with you, may as well share it while you're here. Whether someone helped them or not is none of anyone's business. I'm happy they have a warm and cozy place to be as winter approaches.

    7. I'm sorry you feel that way. Seriously, just because your parents didn't 'help' you in the purchase of your first house, doesn't mean others don't. I didn't get help with mine either, but I happily helped my son with his down payment. Perhaps they make enough by appearing on the show (the whole family is obviously well off due to the show) that they can afford to 'help' and why not? Joy and Austin work as hard or harder than any of them. This is reality for them. They show their lives on TV for you and I to complain over, they get paid from advertising revenue, and they earn their money. It's a win/win.

    8. I had to work to pay for my university degree. My husband's parents paid for him. My cousin had his house entirely paid for by his parents. Another cousin lived in a tiny cheap place and had to save up. I do not begrudge anyone who has parents who help them financially. What should the parents do with the money? Build themselves a pyramid lol.

    9. @Margaret MacInnis, many parents help their kids here. Better that the young people have their inheritance now, when they need it, then wait till after their parents are gone and loose a good % of it in taxes.

Here, there is no way that a couple like Joy and Austen would qualify for a mortgage, without a co-signer. Austen does not have a steady income (house flipping is not considered steady income). And Joy's salary from her appearances in the show is probably not enough either and not considered "steady". And they both do not have long enough steady work history.

@4:36 Incomes in 1967 were much lower than now. But yes, it was more doable back then, provided the couple could get a mortgage. These days, many young people just can not afford to buy and mortgage requirements are stricter (at least here, in this country).

Most young people I know buy their first homes in their late 20s/earlier 30s, after they have saved a large enough down payment (at least 20%) and they have established themselves in careers. With the high cost of houses ( good luck finding anything as cheap as $359K here), parents still have to help them.

    10. Anon 12.24. The OP has reservations because of the way joy & Austin say they have bought their first home to live in. Technically you can’t say you bought a house if your father sold it to you for $10, that’s what the issue is. A bit of transparency would be good. You say they are a close family & help each other, there is no one closer than I am with my two children & I would do anything to help them. However if I owned a property & gave my son or daughter it for £10 (& it is giving it away, as no house costs $10 lets be honest here), I would not expect them to claim they had purchased their first house, I would want them to say I had gave them a house by way of helping them out because they deserve a hand up in life. Joy deserves this nice house but it would be nice if both her & Austin were to say JB gave them the property & how grateful they are to him, not to mislead their fans by saying they bought a house. Saying that makes people think they paid the going rate for the property whatever that may be where they live.

      Delete
    11. Do we know they paid $10 or is that just a rumor?

      Delete
    12. I agree with you 12:50PM. There's lots going on with this family that is not on the up and up. I'm moving on.

    13. Anon 8.39. I asked that very same question a few weeks ago when a poster said they had paid $10 for the property. At first I thought this wasn’t true & Austin is so much his own man that he would not take such a gift from JB. However, the poster at the time said the sale was in public records & posted a link to it (sorry I can’t remember what it was), it clearly stated that the house had been purchased for $10, & the land next to the property for a further $10. As I say it’s the fact Joy & Austin have led us to believe they saved for the past two years to purchase this property that is annoying some people. I’m sure after everything this young couple have been through (especially Joy, who I like very much), no one begrudges them a lovely home. However it would have been nice had they been honest & said JB had gifted them the property by way of payment for their work on the show, or just to give them a hand up in life. No one can “buy” a house for $10 let’s be honest here, & that’s what’s causing some people, like myself, to be a little annoyed at the way they have misled us.

    14. Envy is not attractive!!!

      Delete
    15. No one is being envious. We just want Honesty.

      Delete
    16. Anon 9.44. I don’t think people are envious I think they are angry that the Duggar’s (who are meant to be such a religious, upstanding family), can be so economical with the truth & lead their fans to believe certain things that are not true. If this family are going to hold to the views that they are a religious upstanding family, then they need to be honest with their fans that care about them. Let’s face it had Joy & Austin said JB gifted them the property no one would have said anything & most people, myself included, would have said good for them, they deserve a nice home for their little family. It’s the fact they weren’t truthful that’s upsetting to people. Lying or lying by omission is even less attractive than envy.

    17. There's a lot of talk about what I (we) don't know to be facts. It's so sad. Yes, they are on "reality" tv, but it seems to me that they've put a lot "out there"; been really vulnerable. I don't think that everything they do is my (our) business. Even reality tv personalities have a right to some privacy. I've been a fan for a long time and the last thing I feel is mislead or that they have lied to me. Grace is a wonderful thing!

    18. I BELIEVE YOU HAVE TO PAY SOMETHING WHEN TRANSFERRING A HOUSE AND CAN NOT JUST GIFT IT DUE TO TAXES OR SOMETHING I DON'T REMEMBER WHICH, BUT WHEN MY DAD SOLD ME HIS HOUSE WHEN HE COULD NO LONGER AFFORD IT I PURCHASED IT FOR A FEW DOLLARS, LIKE JOY AND MOVED IN WITH HIM UNTIL HE DIED A FEW MONTH'S LATER. THE POINT WAS SO I WOULDN'T BE STUCK WITH GIFT TAXES.

    19. To those who are commenting about the purchase of Joy & Austins home: Shame on each of you ...and truly....I think its time to grow up! It's NOT your business ...They do NOT owe you the details of how or why their house was purchased. Certainly, you realize that no one goes into history and explains all the detail surrounding the purchase of their home .....and they don't need too!! They have a reality show to spread their FAITH and that's not your job to make them answer to you about every detail of their life. Something wrong with people who spend their days finding FAULT with the Duggar Family. They owe you nothing ........and IF you don't respect their ways then don't read or watch their online communications. Unless they curse God or beat their children .....LEAVE THEM ALONE ...your no better than they are. In fact ....I swear I'm going to choose one of the negative fault finders comments and do a background check on that commentor and then write a blog about the hypocrisy of the duggars commentors finding fault with them when their own lives are LOADED with discrepancies and foolish lifestyle choices. Most of the commentors have lives that are much more dysfunctional than the Duggars. The Duggars do more good than harm so leave them alone. Improve yourself before you attack them. Write about your own family and how to improve it rather than finding fault with others. Be Kind or Be Quiet. I'm tired of reading your negative comments ......The Duggars are my friends and I don't like people treating my friends this way. Neither should you. Joy and Austin are hard working people and have earned everything they have ...and how they did it or paid for it is NOT relevant ...it was done honestly and no one handed them ANYTHING for free.

  10. I think it's awesome that the young couple lived in a camper for quite a while in order to achieve their dream home and financial stability. You see too much young people getting a huge mortgage and wanting it all right away. When I got married we bought a tiny one bedroom apartement and lived there for about 4 years and had our first child there. We managed to save a quite a big downpayment for our house. Good job Joy and Austin!

  16. That’s very nice! But why are those light fixtures just hanging like that? Are they recessed lights that they just didn’t finish putting in? Anyway, very nice kitchen, she’s lucky.

    3. I like the stools. I don't care for the lights. Perhaps they're still in the process of attaching them so they don't dangle from the ceiling.

    1. Nothing like putting someone under pressure to have a baby. I’m sure your well intentioned, however what if, for some reason Joy doesn’t have another child ? It’s also still very soon since she lost Annabel & in many instances a doctor will advise waiting at least 12 months before getting pregnant again. We don’t know exactly what went wrong with the pregnancy last time, & for all we know Joy may need genetic testing for future pregnancies. I’m happy to wait & say nothing regarding any more babies for this young couple, & if & when another pregnancy is announced, then I will be delighted for them as hopefully it will be the right time for Joy & no one will have pressured her into another pregnancy before she is ready emotionally or physically.
