Jana and Jim Bob

We wanted to share this new photo of Jim Bob and Jana, who are on a business trip on the East Coast. As the Duggars' show has progressed, viewers have watched the relationships between Jim Bob and Michelle and their older children transform into friendships as the children have entered adulthood.

  3. What business? Why so vague? What business involves standing in sand? Are they opening a DuggarWorld resort in FL? Bet that's it.

    1. Come on, use your head; they most likely just stopped by a near by beach to snap this beautiful pic!

  4. Very nice picture.
I wonder if Jana has inherited her dad's excellent and successful "business sense". I hope so.

  7. Stupid of me I know to be concerned about someone I don't personally know, but looking back at pictures of Jana from Jan. 2019, Jana's jaw line is markedly more pronounced here. I looked at a number of pictures of her on this site from her teen year through adulthood on (pictures at all different angles). It looks like maybe she's lost weight, which would make her jaw line more pronounced. I hope she's doing alright. She's always been on the slender side, so no need to lose weight.

    1. What you’re seeing is the effects of smart phone photo filters.

    2. That's hilarious! Some of us just can't get enough of the Duggars, I guess?

    3. If that's a smart phone filter, somebody needs to get a new phone! LOL Definitely doesn't flatter beautiful Jana.

  9. This is an extraordinary family. It hasn't been all perfect but this goes to show you what a loving caring and Godly family looks like. I thank God that they have allowed us to see their family as they grow older and start families of their own. Each one is a very precious family. I look forward to see them as time goes on.

  10. You mean that Jana is employed in the "family business" in some capacity? That's amazing. None of the other women in the family have jobs.

    1. Jessa mentioned back when that many of the older adult Duggars work in real estate, as taught them by Grandma Duggar, who was self-employed as an agent herself. Joy flips houses with Austin. You know, you can't please people on this blog. The Duggars are either criticized as being wealthy elitists because of their TV show or they're criticized as the women are in bondage and have no jobs. It gets old fast.

    2. @Debbie Why do you make it sound as if those two things you mentioned are either/or? They're happening together.

  11. I can't help but wonder how the adult Duggars would fare on their own, without the constant presence of their parents. I loved my parents dearly and treasured my childhood and the secure upbringing they provided my siblings and I. However, I remember them telling us that in order to really grow up, we needed to branch out and become independent of them, be exposed to new people and ideas, and not rely on them to make the way in the world for us. They were the first to admit that there was much more to learn than what they could provide. I sincerely hope Jana and her unmarried siblings are not pressured to remain at home under the constant watchful eyes and protection of JimBob and Michelle.

    1. We just saw that Jana went on a holiday with her friends. My friend is single and 40 yrs old and often travels with her parents because they get along really well. She also has a job and friends.

    2. Anonymous @9:05- Your parents must have been related to mine. LOL Mine told me the same thing and I'm grateful for the experience and learning to stand on my own two feet. In the process I learned how to be independent in a good way, not codependent.

  13. I think it's a real testament to Jim Bob and Michelle, as parents, that their family is so close, even with their adult children. It's nice to see. My parents are my best friends.

    1. Close they may be, but it seems as though the kids have a problem with leaving the nest and being independent adults. It appears that the only way out of their parents' home is to get married and even then they stick close to the compound and work for their dad in some capacity. Jinger is the only one to have moved far away and it took a husband to do it. I guess it's a matter of 'to each his own', but it never occurred to me to continue living with my parents long after I reached adulthood and rely on them for so much. I wanted to strike out on my own and do my own thing. I was always close to my mom and dad, but I didn't want to be with them 24/7. Also, expecting to be friends with your adult children comes with pitfalls, one being that it can be hard for a mom or dad not to overstep their boundaries and let their kids lead their own lives. Another is sharing confidences. There are things I share with good friends that I'd never share with my folks. I think that's an important difference.

    2. In the Chinese culture, the adult children, will stay in their parents' homes, until they get married. One of my childhood best friends, is now 38, and because of her cultural background, is still at home, and helping her parents.

      Delete
    3. @Debbie—-it’s great IF it’s the child’s choice to stay nearby. If it’s the stronghold of the parents to forbid the child to leave; it’s a very different story!

    4. This isn't China, and the Duggars sure wouldn't have put up with government limits on the number of children you could have, like China did.

Before I make this comment About this photo I hope everybody reads what I have to say it really hurts to see mean comments on this blog from grown ups. As adults you guys have to set a example for children about saying mean things in social media blue is etc. Some children get bullying from adults. As adults you guys should not bash these women saying they don't have jobs etc that is rude. 100s of years ago women did not work outside of the home. Please don't make comments like this to the blog. Ellie & Lily is making a family friendly blog some adults have the nerve to bash a family that did nothing to you guys. God sees things. Please pray to God for forgiveness for saying such mean thing. As adults for some who have children be the role models tell them not to bash people they don't know even this family.
    Thank You.

    1. Actually, hundreds of years ago, even thousands of years ago, women did work outside the home. They were maids, teachers, farm workers, shop keepers, weavers, wool spinners, bakers, brewers, candle makers, and so on. In fact, many women who worked were young and single, and sometimes traveled far from home for a job. If they were married and their husband died, the widow would take over the husband's business on her own. In the 1800's, women began having more professional titles such as doctors, nurses, dentists, and architects. The long history of women in the workforce is fascinating.

    2. I agree with you that bullying is very real and goes on way too much in this social media age. While some comments are cruel, others are just expressing their viewpoints that sometimes disagree with what the Duggars stand for and that’s okay too. It’s a beautiful world we live in that everyone can have their own opinion but the key is sharing it respectfully.

    3. AMEN, AND MIGHT I ADD. JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A TV SHOW DOES NOT MEAN THE OWE YOU ANYTHING, SUCH AS WHAT BUSINESS. THIS IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS (PUN INTENDED).AND NOBODY SAID THEIR BUSINESS WAS IN THE SAND LOL THAT CRACKED ME UP.

    5. I hope the Duggars have the same feelings about grown-ups not making mean comments, especially about people they don't even know. And that they pray to God for forgiveness if they do say them.

    7. My grandmother had a job over 100 years ago, and so did many other women then and before that. In fact, my grandmother worked before she got married and bought her own house by herself. Didn't women work in the Bible, too?

    8. My great grandmother ran a bar in her town in the early ‘30s, after being widowed with two young children. Any girl or woman who is encouraged to be financially dependent on a husband is being put at risk. There is no reason for able-bodied adults of any sex to rely entirely on someone else for financial support.

    9. My grandmother was a buyer in women’s clothing in a department store in the 40’s and 50’s. She would take train into Chicago for buying trips by herself. My mom worked for a railroad company during WWII, tracking the rails that needed replacing, as our troops travelled by train. I am proud of the work the women in our family do.

    10. In the early 1940's, my mother was an executive secretary for the head of a large midwestern university medical school. Beginning in 1915, my great aunt was head bookkeeper for a major departmen store. She worked there for over 30 years.

    11. Let's not forget that being a Homemaker IS a full-time job! 😄 No need to pit one career against another. After all,you don't need a worldly title to be considered significant. As believers, our true identity is in Christ!

  19. I don't think of my mother or my father as my friend or even best friend. They are my mom and my dad something very special something I will never have or find again with someone else. Some people unfortunately do not find this with theire birth parents but still mg mom and dad are not my friends they are something different.

    1. I understand what you're saying. I always had a wonderful relationship with my parents and was devastated when they passed away. However, my connection with my good friends is different in many ways, the primary one being that I choose them. Nobody can choose their parents. The people who brought you into the world or adopted you are expected to love, protect and provide emotional support. Also, there are simply things I would share with a good friend that I never would have with my parents.

      Delete
    2. I know other moms/daughters who are best friends, and they have so much fun together! They are not each other's only friends, either. It's neat to watch such close relationships.

      Delete
    3. I think your relationship with your parents changes when you become an adult. You are no longer their dependent and most of us move out and start our own lives. I see my parents as wise counselors but not as "friends" or contemporaries. The Duggar offspring appear way more dependent on their parents than I am on mine.

      Delete
    4. My mother was definitely my mother (ie parental authorative role) but also as close as a twin to me. Her death was like part of me died, too. I have found that is very uncommon but it is neither right nor wrong to be very bonded to a parent versus a child versus a spouse versus a friend. It is ok to forge a strong bond with someone.

      Delete
    5. I agree OP. Except maybe for Jill, the adult Duggar children are all still dependent on their parents financially. It's like a one giant house of cards, and about that stable. I've seen it before. You need to cut purse strings along with apron strings when you become an adult. With that parental hold on you, you're always the child, never a friend.

  20. Anon 8:41 - You make a very good point. I had never thought of it this way before, but it’s so true. I can make friends all through life, but I only have one mom and one dad. I feel lucky to have loving and caring parents. It’s a unique relationship, one that needs to be tended to differently than how friends are treated. Thank you for reminding me of that.

  21. I am predicting that Jana has a job opportunity, perhaps television, perhaps on the new network of Chip and Joanna Gaines. If so, I will be watching! Obviously this is just wishful thinking and a guess!

    1. That prediction seems pretty heavily rooted in fantasy. All we’ve seen Jana “build” are some vague ideas for her brothers to plan and execute.
