Video: Josiah and Lauren's Announcement

Jim Bob Duggar, Josiah Duggar, Lauren Duggar, Michelle Duggar

"I was just getting ready to make the announcement that the pregnant mommies and babies get to sleep in the bus, but I guess that includes Lauren now!"
-Michelle Duggar

Last night on an all-new episode of Counting On (check out our recap), fans witnessed the Duggar family's epic camping trip at Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas. During dinner, Josiah and Lauren Duggar announced their pregnancy, and everyone was shocked, especially Michelle (video below).

    3. They’re leggings

    4. I thought it looked like she had a skirt with leggings.

    5. Could have been leggings under a shorter skirt. Hard to tell in that quick clip.

    6. Who cares? I'd love to have a big, close family like the Duggars. They do a lot of things together, which I think is really nice.

    7. for the past several years, the younger girls have worn pants or leggings under their skirts. michelle explained it helped to keep the younger girls more modest as they're learning to be ladylike

    8. How ridiculous. I knew at age 3 or 4 to keep the skirt of my dress down. My mother only had to tell me once. If I was going to be active, I wore pants or shorts. There's a time for each type of clothing and they don't need to be worn together. Little girls are quite capable of being "ladylike" without putting layers of clothes on. The Duggar girls are way old enough to understand that you don't hang upside down with a dress on. Just put the girls in pants and get it over with. Their older sisters are OK with pants. This whole thing wouldn't be an issue if the Duggar girls weren't forced to wear those ridiculous layers. All it does is call MORE attention to their legs!

Kendra seems a very caring young woman who would be thoughtful toward anyone, she would especially have concern for Lauren having had a previous miscarriage & worry that all went well for her this time around. Joe has a very lovely young woman for his wife & mother to his children.

  5. I'm growing weary of everyone being "shocked" when one of these young women becomes pregnant. After all that's what the family is demanding of them. The whole premise of "Counting On" was to show the younger generation and instead JB and Michelle are at the center of every episode. They're not willing to let go of center stage it appears.

    1. Why is everyone hating on Jim Bob and Michelle? I like them being on the show! I wish Jill and Anna were still on the show and yes...Josh too! We all sin and try to do better! Why are you even on this feed if you are so against them having children? Why do you even watch the show? If you don't like the premise of the show...please do everyone a favor and don't watch!

      Delete
    2. No one is “demanding” that any of them have kids, that’s each couple’s choice. Jim Bob may have lots of control over the kids, but it doesn’t extend that far.

      Delete
    3. They have not been center stage for years, until this season. I for one am happy to see a little more of them. It just felt wrong for the heads of the family to be marginalized. How they dealt with one situation over their 30+ years of parenting does not define them, even if you feel they were in the wrong

      Delete
    4. I agree ..Lauren said they were trying. But then said they were shocked when they were! I wonder if the kids can ever marry someone who can’t have kids ? I’ve always wondered that .or another person of different ethnicity ?everyone looks alike .if u didn’t know the family u wouldn’t be able to tell who the kids are and who the spouses of the kids were either .

      Delete
    5. That’s how it is with my children too - in family pictures people ask which ones are ours and which are the spouses. :) I love watching all their children, couples, and enjoy seeing JB and Michelle. I can learn from some of their family interactions and relationships. It takes a lot of work to keep everyone close in a family as time goes by.

I'm growing weary of everyone being shocked when one of these young women becomes pregnant. That's rude to say something like that & to post that on a blog is very disrespectful of you. If JB & Michelle want to be part of the show then so be it. I don't have a problem with it but you do.

  6. After "struggling" for less than 4 months this couple became pregnant for the 2nd time since they married. I think they are sincere, but obviously live in some sort of fantasy world of their family's making.

    1. For Lauren, it was a struggle. Don't delegitimize her experience because you don't share it.

      Delete
    2. It took me 3-1/2 YEARS to conceive after an early miscarriage. I realize my situation isn't typical and that any length of time feels like forever when you're in the middle of it, but if Lauren is unable to see past that short, temporary struggle with a bit of hindsight, she might be in for some rude awakenings in parenting.

      Delete
    3. I can understand Josiah and Lauren were concerned each month they didn't get pregnant that they possibly had an underlying fertility issue. Luckily they don't, but being surrounded by family where the majority got it on the first try they might have felt a little left out.
But nowhere does it equate with an infertility struggle.

      Delete
    4. IMO Lauren is being exploited. She's eager to please and hasn't learned to be more discrete about what she puts out for public consumption.

      Delete
    5. It took my mother 7 years and 3 miscarriages to finally succeed. Lauren needs to understand that 4 months is not anything near a struggle.

      Delete
    6. Anon 9.32. I agree a struggle is usually considered from someone who has tried for years with infertility issues & then got pregnant. I do feel though Lauren probably thought 4 months was a struggle as all the women get pregnant so very quickly. I do wonder what would happen if one day one of them had genuine fertility issues & couldn’t get pregnant, I think the young woman would feel very isolated & worthless. My own mother tried to conceive for 15 years before having me, & even then didn’t get to enjoy pregnancy as didn’t know she was pregnant until giving birth to me on the toilet in our bathroom on a freezing cold December night in the late 60s. I was the most loved & wanted child ever & even though I only had 12 short years with my mum till she passed on my 12th birthday, I know they were the happiest 12 years of her life. Now, like your mother, my mother too had what I would describe as a real struggle to conceive. I’m sure like i was, your the apple of your parents eye, & you must be very loved. I hope you are lucky enough to have both your parents around still, I miss mine with every passing day, & wish more than anything they had met their 2 lovely grandchildren.

    7. It’s taken me 18 years and 5 miscarriages and at 45 we decided to stop. Everyone’s struggle is real and varies. Pressure to have a baby and emotional let down doesn’t help. 4 months for her young heart probably felt like years.

Glad their baby was born healthy and I wish them well.

    8. I sure hope that nobody in the family said or did anything to make Lauren feel as if she was a failure not getting pregnant right away after the miscarriage. I fear that even if they didn't say it out loud, the pressure and the expectation was still there. Otherwise, they would have flocked around her and stopped any talk of a "struggle" only a month or two or three afterwards. Lauren got that struggle idea from somewhere, somehow...

      Delete
    9. Anon 12.28. What an amazing woman you sound. Your so accepting & gracious enough to recognise Lauren’s struggle as very real to her in her young mind. I applaud you & can’t imagine being able to feel so gracious as you. I’m sure one day you will be rewarded for having such a good heart. You never know, sometimes when you stop trying is exactly when it happens, & at your age your body often has a spurt of hormones as it knows time is running out & it tries to do its utmost to conceive, you just don’t know what happens. Iv seen mums in the past thought they were going through menopause when it’s actually been a longed for pregnancy.

    10. to Anon 12:28 am -- Sometimes I feel sorry for myself for only being able to have one child. Your kind words for Lauren make me a bit ashamed and make me even more grateful than I already am for my child. Good to have a wake-up call once in a while!

    11. 9:57, Lauren is capable of coming up with the struggle feeling by herself. Just because she's a part of a large family doesn't mean she is only allowed to think groupthink.

    1. Changing the channel is always an option. I, for one, look forward to seeing what's going on with the family. I was blessed that I never had a miscarriage, so I don't what 4 months meant to Lauren & Josiah. For her first experience with childbirth, it probably felt like forever.
But, they are very young and will learn to realize that some folks are just looking for something to critique. Congratulations to Josiah and Lauren on the birth of a healthy baby girl!

  10. What, no Dillard’s? It’s rather disingenuous to call this family time, when the reality is it’s to make money by filming for TLC. Completely scripted. We know Derick and Jill are out of this picture for a reason, not that they just “couldn’t make it.”

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Actually, we don't "know" that the Dillards couldn't make it. He was in law school at the time of filming. We also don't "know" that it was completely scripted.

      Delete
    2. @7:42- Jill and the kids aren’t in law school and they live in the area. The point is that it’s no secret that the Dillard’s severed their ties with TLC and are not a part of filming any longer. It’s silly to suggest anything else.

      Delete
    3. Joy and Austin also were not there.

      Delete
    4. I miss the Dillards too. I hope that Derrick does awesome in Law School. Maybe one day Jill will go to nursing school. She would make a great nurse. She's already a certified midwife. ( No comments please about how the Duggars don't believe in college, or about why Derrick is no longer on the show. We've all been following the show)

      Delete
    5. Jill is not a certified midwife. She has the lowest level midwife training that is not recognized by many states and many hospitals.

      Delete
    6. The Dillard’s don’t join the Duggars for many “family” events.

      Delete
    7. They said they have family gatherings once a week. It's not surprising that not all of the adults would be able to make it every week so they probably just decided not to go to this one since the cameras were there. I didn't see Joy and Austin either. I can't imagine every family would make it each week.

      Delete
    8. 6:38, Jill is not a real midwife, she was a CPM (not a true midwife) and she no longer holds that license.

    9. Didn’t Jill make an appearance early this year during a birth? Or last fall, sorry everything runs together 😆

    1. Define hateful. All I see are truthful.

    2. People are allowed to share their opinion. Not everything the family does is awesome.

      Delete
    3. Ellie and Lilly allow posters to express their opinions here (within boundaries they have established as the blog owners, and rightfully so). I believe, in the interest of fairness and civil discourse, they allow a variety of opinions. That means that there will always be posters who do not like people posting an opinion that differs from their own and who seek to shut down opposing viewpoints and opinions with labels like "hateful", "negative", "hater', "troll", etc. Part of choosing to participate and post on a blog means accepting that not everyone shares your viewpoint/opinion, but everyone has the right to be heard (provided they're within the boundaries set by Ellie and Lilly) and not be bullied by name-calling. Frankly, if I came to this blog and every poster was singing the praises of the Duggars, I would be very concerned that the people here were idol-worshipping this family. Secondly, such a blog would lack all integrity, as would the owners and I wouldn't waste my time here. That kind of a blog would only further serve to idolize the Duggars-which definitely wouldn't be godly at all. The reality is that the Duggars are human beings, and as such, they have flaws and every one of them has moments when they're not so Christlike. Unfortunately some posters/fans have put the Duggars on a pedestal and when someone questions something they do or points out an inconsistency, that truth offends some posters and the name-calling/attempts or calls to silence other posters begins. I think Ellie and Lilly have made their position pretty clear in their blog statement, "Our aim is to post all points of view...".

    4. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.....a difference in belief is not being hateful.

      Delete
    5. It's not the opinions. It's the assumptions. "I don't think newborns should wear hairbows" is an opinion. "The Duggars are just in it for the money," "Jill had a hysterectomy," "Jeremy loves the spotlight," etc., are assumptions. They put someone in a bad ot false light with no actual knowledge of someone's thoughts or motives or of the true facts. That's what I find problematic. It's basically gossiping and sometimes near slander.

    6. 10:05, thank you for your response. It is very disconcerting to read how many people here call other people names just for having a difference of opinion. I wish everyone would let the moderators determine which comments get posted and stop the name calling. There's more than enough of that ugliness on the internet as it is.

      Delete
    7. @9:05 What do you think makes people come up with those statements? The actions of the family themselves.

  15. Lauren is very young and has quite obviously lived a very sheltered life. Yes, it does seem ridiculous to hear her say they had been trying for “quite a while” but it undoubtedly felt that way to her. People should really be more kind with their comments.

  16. Weekly family get-togethers? As it is, it seems they're already regularly getting together at least that often for birthdays, new courtships, engagements, pregnancy announcements, gender reveals, baby showers, family trips ... not to mention wedding dress shopping and regular pedicures thrown in. With that many people living in close proximity and a show to film, it appears they're together more than not. Except, of course for the Dillards. I love my extended family and in -laws ldearly and enjoy it when we do spend time together, but I think there's some truth to the saying that you can have too much of a good thing.
