Prayers for the Wallers

Marcus Duggar and cousin Paul Waller (David and Priscilla's oldest child)
August 2018

Several times during the almost ten-year life of our blog, we have mentioned Anna Duggar's sister, Priscilla Waller, and her husband, David. David and Priscilla Waller have four children. Yesterday morning, David's sister Rebecca Waller (22) passed away during a tragic car accident. David has a total of nine siblings, although one of his brothers, Isaac, passed away in 2005 from Leukemia while doing service work in Mongolia.

Rebecca was a Christian, as was Isaac, and both are now with the Lord Jesus in heaven for eternity, but we know that the Waller family would appreciate your prayers as they mourn the loss of their dear daughter and sister.

  5. I am very sorry for the Waller family's tragic loss. Regarding heaven, I prefer to think that if there is one, there's a place in it for everybody, regardless of religion or lack of one. A loving Creator would not require a Christian ID card, IMO, as we are born into this world without having been asked our
permission or a chance to choose our parents.

    1. ??? That’s literally not how any religion works.

    2. True, we can't choose our parents, but we can choose whether to accept or reject Christ. Heaven is for those who embrace Christ as their Savior.

    4. Anon 5:10, I understand why your stance seems ideal, but I encourage you to read the Bible, the whole book. 2 Peter 3:9 is a good place to start for your questioning. God bless you.

    5. The entrance to heaven requires your belief and trust in the Lord. And of course your commitment in serving Him all your days. Just read the Bible. It’s all there.

    6. 3:48- I prefer not to believe in the violent, vindictive and vengeful god of your Bible.

    7. Anonymous 1:30, many people say that about God from the Old Testament. I did too bc that’s what I heard people say. But if you actually read it, (it took me second time reading through to see it), God is always begging his people to come back to him. He talks about chastisement and punishment for the bad deeds which sometimes come to pass, but then asks his people to love Him and turn back to Him, and He won’t punish but will restore and give abundance. His heart for us is so clear after reading passage after passage like that. I didnt grow up reading the Bible nor am I any kind of Bible scholar. Just a broken person trying to make an effort to find God

    8. This just seems like not the ideal venue to work out these complex issues.

    9. God is loving, but also just. We are all filthy sinners. Our righteousness is like filthy rags in the eyes of God. No sin can enter heaven. Those who accept Jesus Christ are washed in His blood and seen as sinless in the eyes of God, so are able to enter heaven. If you don't want to be with God, He won't force you. John 3:16.

  6. That is so sad and we will definitely be praying for all affected. A death in such a way is always so tragic, no goodbye's can be said, no last I love you etc. My husband died as a result of an accident as well and was on life support for 9 days and we told him many things but we don't know if he could hear us. He was 50. Our sympathies to them all.

    1. Still doesn't erase the hurt of losing someone. That comfort is a coping mechanism.

    2. It's more than a coping mechanism. It's a spiritual gift of peace.

    3. Great, but you can't prove any reunion can you. You're just going to have to take some book's word for it. Meanwhile a life ended too soon.

  16. Betty klippenstein:Jesus is the Truth, the Way and the Life. No one will come to the Father, save through Him. This is a hard Truth and Jesus Himself said few would be able to accept it. We all are given the chance to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour at some point in our lives, if we say " No", it is our choice...

    1. And if we say no, it should be our choice to do that without someone else judging us, talking about flaming lakes of sulphur, or giving us some other unnecessary guilt. The Christian account of a place called heaven is only one of countless stories and nobody should be told they have to believe it or else. Many people are perfectly happy to believe in something else or nothing at all. What's there to be afraid of if you don't believe anything? (Nothing.)

  20. Why is it necessary to point out that this young woman was a Christian and therefore has earned entry into heaven because of it? It’s like saying that if you are anything else, such as being of the Jewish faith, you will be left out when you die. In these divisive times, I don’t think we should be practicing religious superiority under any circumstances. If it makes you feel good to think that heaven waits for you, that’s fine. Just be careful about assuming other people are somehow doomed to something else when they pass away.

    1. Thank you, I totally agree! Also isn't it a sin to judge as well so why so why commit your time thinking about how God thinks about others ?

    2. Heaven is a gift you accept, not something you earn. Anyone can accept that gift.

    3. 6:46am When I read your comment this morning part of me was somewhat irritated that you chose the wrong time to express disapproval over it being mentioned that Rebecca was a Christian. A family is going through grief and it is comforting to them (and those of us who are believers in the the Lord Jesus Christ) to know they will see her
again one day. There is no "religious superiority" in Lily and Ellie's announcement. A simple "I'm sorry for the loss of Rebecca" would have been better.

    4. It's a comfort for Christians to know that our saved loved ones are with Jesus and that we'll see them again some day. So, we'll never stop celebrating that fact when a Christian dies. If that offends you, it's on you, not on us.

      Delete
    5. anon@6:58- That's fine if you take comfort in your beliefs. However, I take issue with evangelicals crossing a line by trying to convert other people. If they want to be left alone to worship as they please, then they should afford others the same courtesy. BTW, the Duggars and the Wallers are evangelicals.

  21. We are grateful that you shared this story and prayer need for the Waller family. We are sorry that many reading misunderstand what it means to follow Christ. It starts with an understanding that our great Creator God is perfect and holy, that He cannot abide our sin in even the "tiniest white-lie" form (John 1:17-the Law of Moses points us to Christ), that the penalty of our sin is death, but He in His amazing and overwhelming love sent Himself in the form of His Son Jesus Christ to live a perfect, sin-less life, die a horrible brutal death as a substitution for our sin penalty, fulfilling the sacrifical requirements and rising back to life, victorious over death. (John 3:1-21) We are given the opportunity to repent of our sin and put our faith in Christ alone (Eph 2:8-9) and as a consequence, are rewarded the gift of life with Him in Heaven after our toil and struggles on this earth are ended. (Phil 1:21) How great is His goodness-Rebecca's trials of this life have ended. May He comfort their dear family as they miss her. Praise Him that they do not mourn without Hope!

There's nothing good about Rebecca running a red light that resulted in an accident involving two other vehicles that hit her, one being a semi. This was a horrible tragedy and we can't know what distracted her. However, to equate this situation with God's goodness is way off the mark. I'm just as sorry as I can be for the entire Waller family, but the other people involved will also be affected by this for the rest of their lives and not in any "good" way. (I live in the area where this accident happened and it was reported multiple times in the news.)

    2. @ 6:19 I refuse to believe that a heavenly afterlife is reserved only for those who repent "sins," or that death is the penalty for these "sins." (I don't even believe in that word "sin" - it's completely subjective.) We do what we will and what we want while "alive," as part of a learning process (important point). The healing afterlife plane is where we ALL go regardless of what happened or what we did. It's a life review, with spirit guides. Everyone can can heal (if they want to) their shortcomings and possibly try again in another earthly-type life, or remain on that plane as long as they want.

If you're allowed to state your beliefs, then I'm allowed to state mine too. Mine are not nearly as scary as some things I've read.

    1. It never crosses my mind to wonder if someone is saved when they pass away. I firmly believe that the loved ones I've lost are in a better place, no matter their religious beliefs or lack of any at all. I've never thought that instilling fear in people is a productive thing to do. Unfortunately, most religions are all about that.

  23. Sad to hear about this. I used to live in this part of Minnesota and have driven on this highway many times. It seems that unfortunately, this accident was her fault, according to local news reports. I pray that the family takes some comfort in the fact that she didn’t suffer.
